Mick Torbay has a simple verdict on most advertising campaigns: they don't work. “Most ads are rubbish,” he declares. “They accomplish nothing, they waste people's time, and they waste peoples' money. When the commercial break comes on, people stand up and go to the bathroom or turn the volume down.” It's harsh, but accurate nonetheless. Ads created by Mick, on the other hand, are the kind that inspire listeners and viewers to turn up the volume, talk about the spots with family and friends, and remain lodged in their brains until they morph into paying customers. Mick, a wildly successful maverick marketer and one of the elite Wizard of Ads partners, is the rare expert who knows — and can explain — why some ads succeed spectacularly while most crash and burn. And he knows who most often is to blame. Brace yourself, as Mick shares his bold ideas and imaginative strategies that lead to long-lasting customer loyalty. If you're tired of throwing away money on ads that don't work, this is the episode you can't afford to miss. Monday Morning Radio is hosted by the father-son duo of Dean and Maxwell Rotbart. Women over 40 comprise 25% of the U.S. population, yet they remain significantly underrepresented in popular culture and the media. Dina Alvarez and Dina Aronson set out to change that with their bold new anthology, Midlife Private Parts: Revealing Essays That Will Change the Way You Think About Age. It is a deeply moving collection of soulful essays that speak to what it really feels like to move through the world as a midlife woman and beyond. It is a rallying cry to embrace midlife unapologetically, and a powerful reminder that you are not going through it alone.Dina Alvarez started her writing career as a freelancer for Big Apple Parent in New York City covering education, local politics, and lifestyle. She later co-founded SomosPadres, the first and only bilingual parenting publication for Hispanic families in New York City. Dina currently works for a financial firm and continues to write in her spare time with a focus on creative nonfiction pieces. Dina is an avid reader and lover of anthologies, particularly those that tell women's stories. Dina is the mother of two adult sons and a native New Yorker. She continues to call the city home where she lives with her husband and youngest son.Dina Aronson is a writer, editor and pro-age advocate who is passionate about shining a light on midlife women and reframing the cultural conversation around aging. She began her career as an attorney, later founding a legal search consultancy, but pivoted as she approached midlife and couldn't find relevant content that reflected her experience. She began freelancing for start-ups aimed at the forty and above woman, and founded the Patina blog, now a Substack newsletter called Patina with Dina Aronson, where she explores topics in and around aging through her midlife lens. She has two grown stepsons, and currently resides between New York City and Miami with her husband.Midlife Private Parts: Revealing Essays that Will Change the Way You Think About Age (June 24, 2025, Regalo Press)Learn more: www.midlifeprivateparts.comIG handles: @patina_life and @thewritestyleshttps://substack.com/@patinawithdinaaronson https://open.substack.com/pub/dinaalvarez
Most runners think nutrition is about eating healthy, but what works in the gym doesn't work for the long run.Are you sabotaging your runs with your diet—even if you think you're eating clean? Most runners approach nutrition like bodybuilders—obsessing over "clean eating" and restrictive diets that actually sabotage performance when you're logging serious miles. In this episode, I break down the real science of fueling for distance running, including why carbs should make up 50-65% of your calories (yes, even the white, sugary ones), how to balance protein and fat without gaining unwanted weight, and the counterintuitive truth about why eating more might be the key to running faster. I'll also share the supplements that actually work for endurance athletes based on new research, plus my simple strategy for breaking the frustrating cycle of running more but gaining weight. If you've been spinning your wheels trying to dial in your nutrition while chasing PRs, this episode will give you the blueprint to fuel like an actual runner, not a gym influencer.Key TakeawaysUnderstanding the right mix of carbs, protein, and fat can help you run longer, recover faster, and avoid burnout. It's not about eating less—it's about eating right.Things like protein powder, creatine, and magnesium can support your training, but only if your regular meals are already solid. Use them to fill the gaps—not fix bad habits.Running a lot can actually make you eat more without realizing it. Focus on eating to feel “not hungry” instead of chasing that full, stuffed feeling.Timestamps[00:11] What You'll Learn[01:19] What Are Macros, Micros and Supplements?[02:59] Why Carbs Are The Best For Distance Runners[04:50] Protein Explained[06:17] Fat In Your Diet Explained[07:57] Importance of Micro Nutrients[09:05] Use This Free Guide To Eat and Drink Your Way To Your Best Run Times[10:30] Best Supplements For Runners[14:06] Losing Weight Overeating While Running[16:03] Portion Control, Counting Calories & the BMR Calculator for Runners[17:47] Finish Line ThoughtsLinks & Learnings
Core beliefs are the fundamental, deeply held beliefs we develop in early childhood that shape how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. In this eye-opening episode, Lindsey breaks down how eating disorders stem from and reinforce negative core beliefs that can take years to heal from. Learn about the three types of core beliefs that are secretly feeding your disordered eating patterns and discover how to identify and transform these beliefs to break free from the cycle keeping you stuck. Key Takeaways Core beliefs are fundamental truths you've made into idols that need to be challenged Eating disorders stem from and reinforce negative core beliefs developed in childhood There are 3 types of core beliefs: how you see yourself, others, and the world You are becoming someone you've never been before - be patient with that process "You either quit or keep going - they both hurt. Choose your hurt wisely." The 3 Types of Core Beliefs Type 1: How You See Yourself What It Includes: Self-worth and personal value Self-competence, skills, and abilities Self-identity - who you are at your core Beliefs shaped by caretakers, feedback, and criticisms over your lifetime How It Feeds EDs: "I'm not good enough" leads to perfectionism, restriction, and rigidity False identity created by the eating disorder becomes your truth Tying worth and value to performance instead of inherent value How to Change It: Build self-compassion through recovery inspiration Embrace your identity as "daughter of the most high, warrior, queen" Recognize the voice in your head is a false narrative Understand you don't have to earn, restrict, or compensate for nourishment Type 2: How You View Other People What It Includes: Trustworthiness and reliability of others Beliefs about goodwill and kindness in people Prejudices and stereotypes Safety mechanisms developed from rejection or inconsistent caregiving How It Feeds EDs: "If I can just be perfect, I'll have less rejection" Using food and exercise to control how others perceive you "If I gain weight, will my husband/boyfriend still want me?" How to Change It: Stop comparing yourself to other people Understand most people don't actually care about your recovery journey Set boundaries with people who aren't in your corner Accept support from those who truly want what's best for you Type 3: Your Perception of the World What It Includes: Beliefs about safety vs. danger in your environment Abundance vs. scarcity mindset Beliefs about available resources and opportunities Level of control you have over your life and world events How It Feeds EDs: "The world is unsafe, so I must perform to prove my value" Searching for control and stability through food/body management Fear-based restriction during uncertain times How to Change It: Challenge wellness culture and societal body image messages Create personal meaning and purpose beyond the disorder "Stay away from processed bodies rather than processed foods" How Core Beliefs Create ED Cycles The Connection: Core beliefs affect your motivations, goals, life choices, and desires for freedom Negative self-perception breeds perfectionism and restriction Fear of others' judgment results in using food and exercise for control Worldview of unsafety heightens need to prove value through performance Powerful Quotes from This Episode "You are becoming someone you've never met before - and that's what I want you to take with you today." "What other people think of you is not your business." "No one truly cares what you are doing in your recovery outside of those closest to you." "You either quit or you get to keep going, and they both hurt. Choose your hurt wisely." "We have to stop living and breeding a culture where our daughters feel wrong for being in their own body." The Core Belief Transformation Process Step 1: Identification Recognize which of the 3 types of core beliefs are impacting your ED Identify the "fundamental truths" you've made into idols Understand these beliefs reinforce unhealthy coping mechanisms Step 2: Challenge Question beliefs about yourself, others, and the world Recognize many beliefs aren't even yours - they were inherited Challenge wellness culture and societal messages Step 3: Rebuild Build self-compassion and embrace your true identity Set boundaries and stop caring about bystanders' opinions Create meaning and purpose beyond the disorder Warning Signs Your Core Beliefs Are Feeding Your ED Tying your worth to your performance or appearance Believing you must be perfect to avoid rejection Using food/exercise to control how others see you Feeling unsafe in the world and needing control through restriction Believing you're "not good enough" or "unlovable" The Recovery Mindset Shifts From: "I'm not good enough" To: "I am a warrior becoming someone I've never been before" From: "I must be perfect to be loved" To: "I am worthy of love exactly as I am" From: "The world is unsafe" To: "I can create meaning and purpose beyond my fears" Journal Prompts for Core Belief Work "What beliefs about myself are keeping me stuck in ED patterns?" "How much influence am I allowing others to have in my recovery?" "What worldview am I holding that makes me feel unsafe?" "Which core beliefs are reinforcing my unhealthy coping mechanisms?" The Call to Action Be the Change: Challenge societal messages about body image and success Stand up for your truth "Stay away from processed bodies rather than processed foods" Stop creating negative cycles for future generations Signs You're Ready to Transform Core Beliefs You recognize these beliefs are "idols" you've created You're tired of caring what everyone else thinks You want to break generational cycles You're ready to become someone you've never been before You understand recovery requires belief transformation, not just behavior change Ready to Break the Chains of Limiting Core Beliefs? you've been taught to believe that fat loss is simple: eat less, move more, repeat until smaller.but if that actually worked the way you think—why are you still starting over? why are you still white-knuckling through another “reset” that feels exactly like the last one?this episode breaks down the truth about why most women get trapped in the same loop:chasing quick fixes and shrinking instead of training to actually build somethingconfusing dieting for results with dieting for controlmistaking effort for progress (and why the scale lies to you every single time)sabotaging yourself with the exact “solutions” you think will save you (like cutting carbs, adding HIIT, or flip-flopping between deficit and maintenance)clinging to comfort, timelines, and old metrics that don't match the body you actually wantwe talk about what real progress looks like when the goal isn't just smaller—but stronger, tighter, and leaner. and why the thing you keep avoiding (slowing down, fueling properly, pushing harder in the gym, sitting in maintenance longer than you think you “should”) is exactly what's holding you back from breaking free.if you've ever thought: “i know what to do, i just can't stick to it”—this episode will call BS on that belief and show you why sticking to “it” has never been the problem. your problem isn't willpower. it's the wrong game plan.so if you're sick of starting over, this is the wake-up call. it's time to stop chasing smaller and start building different.• instagram: @transformxruby@nutritioncoachingbydal• book a consult: transformxruby.com• dm me your thoughts or questions after listening

Have an idea or tip? Send us a text! What's really holding your business back from reaching its full potential? The answer might surprise you. In this eye-opening conversation with Brandon Pflieger of Capital Growth Partners, we uncover the often-overlooked foundations of business growth and the uncomfortable truth that many entrepreneurs need to hear.Pflieger brings a refreshing perspective shaped by his diverse background spanning retail, marketing, fitness entrepreneurship, and business consulting. His "Turnaround Blueprint" cuts through the noise to focus on what truly matters: people, systems, offers, and strategic marketing. The most startling revelation? In 70-80% of struggling businesses, the owner themselves is the primary obstacle to growth. Through compelling real-world examples, Pflieger illustrates how well-intentioned micromanagement suffocates potential and how stepping back can paradoxically accelerate success. "You're going to care about your business more than everyone else," he acknowledges, before offering practical strategies for building team investment through customized incentive structures. For businesses wrestling with pricing pressures, Pflieger delivers invaluable insights on maintaining margins without joining the "race to the bottom." His approach to crafting compelling offers centers on customer outcomes rather than overwhelming options—"Nobody cares how they're going to lose 30 pounds. They care THAT they lose 30 pounds."Digital presence gets equal attention, with Pflieger dismantling common misconceptions about websites and marketing budgets. His rule of thumb? Companies in growth mode should allocate 5-10% of total revenue to marketing, with approximately 60-70% directed toward digital advertising—numbers that shock many small business owners currently spending a fraction of that amount.MediaclipMediaclip strives to continuously enhance the user experience while dramatically increasing revenue.Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREEIndependent Photo ImagersIPI is a member + trade association and a cooperative buying group in the photo + print industry.Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. I first came across Nathan Evans Fox on his TikTok account. He's from rural North Carolina and he has a fresh perspective on what it means to be from the south, and rural America. The common discourse on these issues is old and tired, and we need to be having these discussion about rural life and country music. He has a song out called Hillbilly Hymn that reflects on the idea of "Jubilee" from the Old Testament. The resetting of debt, and reordering of society. It's really fascinating and I wanted to share this with y'all! Hope you dig it!
The ancient city of Sodom has been synonymous with sin and the consequences of sin for thousands of years. These days it's sexual sin they're most associated with and infamous for, specifically homosexuality. But that's a modern development and not what the Hebrew prophets or even Jesus meant when they considered the city. For most of history, Sodom's sin was understood to be the hoarding of resources and inhospitality to immigrants. So watch out, United States of America. Given how we're treating the foreigners among us, fire and brimstone might be in the forecast for us, too, consequentially speaking. On this episode of Mormonish Podcast, Landon and Rebecca are joined by a bookclub friend, Steph, to discuss the concept of living a "meaningless" life without the confines of a high demand, high control religion. We base our discussion around the fantastic book, "The Art of Living a Meaningless Existence: Ideas From Philosophy That Change the Way You Think" by Robert Pantano. Each of us share personal stories of finding that outside the structure of religion, "meaningless" becomes a wonderful journey of discovery and self awareness. This was a great conversation that I'm sure will resonate with all of you too!***How to DONATE to Mormonish Podcast: If you would like to help financially support our podcast, you can DONATE to support Mormonish Podcast here: Mormonish Podcast is a 501(c) (3) https://donorbox.org/mormonish-podcast ****WE HAVE MERCH! **** If you'd like to purchase Mormonish Merch, you can visit our Merch store here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/mormonishmerch We appreciate our Mormonish viewers and listeners so much! Paul Akers: 2 Second Lean Paul Akers is the founder and president of FastCap, a product development company specializing in woodworking tools and hardware for the professional builder. Through a series of twists and turns he discovered Lean and the Toyota Production System (TPS) which was instrumental in propelling FastCap as an example of Lean manufacturing and culture, now followed by thousands of companies around the world. He is the author of 2 Second Lean: How to Grow People and Build a Fun Lean Culture at Work & at Home*. We often add more in order to make a system better. The opposite tactic is often more useful: making things simpler. In this conversation, Paul and I explore how to make worker better by starting small. Key Points Your pride will blind you to what you most need to learn. Begin by addressing the things that bug you. Lean is about making things simpler. Instead of batching, consider one-piece flow. This helps you improve as you go. Set the standard at 2 seconds to try something new. Anybody can achieve that. Start in the bathroom. Showing respect in the place everybody visits sets a standard for the rest of the organization. To make something stick, (1) set the expectation, (2) inspect the expectation, (3) reinforce the expectation. Success and Happiness Start with Your Thoughts... It's Time to Change the Way You Think! We all probably recall some version of Proverbs 23:7 So as one thinks, so he/she is... And Best-selling author Andrew Matthews takes us on a journey to demonstrate it, through research and common sense. The fact is we choose our thoughts, and what we dwell on (even unintentionally) we will gravitate toward. And that will affect both your success and happiness. Have you ever felt stuck, like no matter what you do, true success and happiness always seem just out of reach? What if the key to unlocking everything you desire isn't in what you do—but in how you think? Join us on A New Direction, as we welcome Andrew Walters, author of Being Happy! A Handbook to Greater Confidence & Security. This episode will challenge everything you thought you knew about success, security, and personal fulfillment! In his best-selling book, Andrew reveals how our thoughts don't just influence our emotions—they create our reality. When we shift our mindset, we don't just find happiness—we unlock success in every area of life. The way we think determines what we attract, how we handle challenges, and ultimately, the opportunities that come our way. If you've ever doubted your potential or struggled to break free from negativity, this conversation will give you the practical tools and mental shifts needed to take control of your happiness, confidence, and success. This isn't just another feel-good talk—it's a wake-up call for anyone ready to stop surviving and start thriving. If you're tired of watching others achieve the success you crave, it's time to rewire your mind and take control of your future. Tune in and discover how to shift your mindset for happiness, confidence, and the success you truly deserve! Andrew Matthews' Updated best-selling book, "Being Happy! A Handbook to Grater Confidence & Security, is a real winner. There may be many of you are skeptics that your thinking has anything to do with your success. My suggestion...think again. We all know if you think negatively, then what you do is you see your world negatively. You focus on the negative things happening in your life. But change your thinking to a positive attitude, your world looks different. Do bad things still happen? Of course they do, but when you change your thinking, they are not bad or good, they just are. This is where Andrew Matthew's "Being Happy!" really shines. Has done the research. He has done his own investigative research. He has read countless books on the subject and still comes back to the conclusion, if you want to be successful and happy in life...it starts with what you are telling yourself in your brain. As a former skeptic of this idea, "Being Happy!" has only removed any skepticism that is left. The fact is our behavior is shaped by our thought. It's just a fact. What we focus on tends to gravitate to us. And while all the "science" (whatever that really means) is not all crystal clear. Why not be at least open to the idea that this can change you. All that said, the backdrop of this book is you can't just try what Andrew Matthews' is saying, like trying on a pair of blue jeans to see if they fit. No, you must make the commitment, put in the effort, be resilient, and really stick to it. After all you have habits. We all do. We also have thinking habits. We all do. You want to improve your life? It's time to change them! Click here to get your copy of "Being Happy!" Please thank our sponsors of A New Direction!
