Are you struggling with shame in your life? Do you want to be free? The more we renew our minds on truth, the freer we become and the further we get from shame. Knowing who God is contains the secrets to living the most joyful and satisfied life. God's love isn't based on us; it's placed on us. One of the biggest components of the process of sanctification is learning to receive grace. When we fully commit ourselves to knowing, experiencing, and following, Jesus, we encounter true freedom and joy.
Week One: 05/14/23 Series: Mother's Day Title: Lasting Legacy Bible: 1 Samuel 1:1 - 16 1 Samuel 1:1 – 2 (NLT) There was a man named Elkanah who lived in Ramah in the region of Zuph in the hill country of Ephraim. He was the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, of Ephraim. 2 Elkanah had two wives, Hannah and Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah did not. Hannah Overcame Unrealized Expectations 1 Samuel 1:3 – 7a (NLT) 3 Each year Elkanah would travel to Shiloh to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of Heaven's Armies at the Tabernacle. The priests of the Lord at that time were the two sons of Eli—Hophni and Phinehas. 4 On the days Elkanah presented his sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to Peninnah and each of her children. 5 And though he loved Hannah, he would give her only one choice portion because the Lord had given her no children. 6 So Peninnah would taunt Hannah and make fun of her because the Lord had kept her from having children. 7 Year after year it was the same—Peninnah would taunt Hannah as they went to the Tabernacle. A Provoking Rival 1 Samuel 1: 7 – 8 (NLT) 7 Year after year it was the same—Peninnah would taunt Hannah as they went to the Tabernacle. Each time, Hannah would be reduced to tears and would not even eat. 8 “Why are you crying, Hannah?” Elkanah would ask. “Why aren't you eating? Why be downhearted just because you have no children? You have me—isn't that better than having ten sons?” Depression Crying Not eating Sadness of the heart 1 Samuel 1:7a (NLT) 7 Year after year it was the same—Peninnah would taunt Hannah as they went to the Tabernacle. Long-term Verbal and Emotional Abuse 1 Samuel 1:8 (NLT) 8 “Why are you crying, Hannah?” Elkanah would ask. “Why aren't you eating? Why be downhearted just because you have no children? You have me—isn't that better than having ten sons?” Are You Serious? Moment with Her Husband 1 Samuel 1:16 (NLT) 16 Don't think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.” Anxiety 1 Samuel 1:4 – 5 (NLT) 4 On the days Elkanah presented his sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to Peninnah and each of her children. 5 And though he loved Hannah, he would give her only one choice portion because the Lord had given her no children. Receiving Grace 1Samuel 1:10 (NLT) 10 Hannah was in deep anguish, crying bitterly as she prayed to the Lord. Passionate Persistent Prayer 1 Samuel 1:12 – 15 (NLT) 12 As she was praying to the Lord, Eli watched her. 13 Seeing her lips moving but hearing no sound, he thought she had been drinking. 14 “Must you come here drunk?” he demanded. “Throw away your wine!” 15 “Oh no, sir!” she replied. “I haven't been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the Lord. 1 Samuel 1:11 (NLT) 11 And she made this vow: “O Lord of Heaven's Armies, if you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours for his entire lifetime, and as a sign that he has been dedicated to the Lord, his hair will never be cut.” 1 Samuel 1:17 – 19 (NLT) 17 “In that case,” Eli said, “go in peace! May the God of Israel grant the request you have asked of him.” 18 “Oh, thank you, sir!” she exclaimed. Then she went back and began to eat again, and she was no longer sad. 19 The entire family got up early the next morning and went to worship the Lord once more. Then they returned home to Ramah. When Elkanah slept with Hannah, the Lord remembered her plea, Practicing Healthier Rhythms 1 Samuel 1:24 – 28 (NLT) 24 When the child was weaned, Hannah took him to the Tabernacle in Shiloh. They brought along a three-year-old bull for the sacrifice and a basket of flour and some wine. 25 After sacrificing the bull, they brought the boy to Eli. 26 “Sir, do you remember me?” Hannah asked. “I am the very woman who stood here several years ago praying to the Lord. 27 I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. 28 Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there. We must all learn to receive by Faith what God has already provided by Grace. Salvation is God's idea. We are not trying to convince God to save, heal or deliver; He is trying to convince us to receive what was already provided in Christ.
We all have to learn to receive by faith what God has already provided by grace in a greater way.
Embrace God’s Word with us as Elder Dave Shumaker teaches from Ephesians 2:1-10 in the message, Receiving Grace, Giving Grace.
How would you answer people who think that they can get to heaven by their good deeds? If people have to work for their salvation by outweighing their bad deeds with good deeds, how can we ever be good enough? In the book of Ephesians, the Holy Spirit writing through Paul makes it clear that salvation is by grace through faith as a gift of God, and there is nothing we can do to earn our way to heaven. As Believers, we have received grace as a gift, so the Lord calls us also to give grace to others. Embrace God’s Word as Elder Dave Shumaker continues our summer sermon series and teaches from Ephesians 2:1-10 in the message, Receiving Grace, Giving Grace: • Both the Irreligious and Religious Need God’s Grace • God Offers Grace through Faith • God’s Purpose in Giving Grace
from Psalm 51 Walter Bruggemann says of the Psalms: “On the one hand, Israel's faithful speech addressed to God is the substance of the Psalms. The Psalms do this so fully and so well because they articulate the entire gamut of Israel's speech to God, from profound praise to the utterance of unspeakable anger and … Continue reading "(June 19, 2022) “Summer in the Psalms: Psalm 51-Receiving Grace”"

Prodigal | The Son (Receiving Grace) by Collective Church
On today's episode we talk about something that the entire world needs right now and that is grace. Sometimes it's really hard to remember to give people grace and even harder to give it to yourself. Today we talk about the other side too where sometimes it's not so easy to receive it from others as well. We cook an amazing but simple coconut chicken curry today that can be served over rice or anything too. Tiffany Krystal - Instagram Support the show (https://paypal.me/chefhollywood?locale.x=en_US)

In today's episode of Staying at the Table we talk about our core value, we receive and offer God's grace abundantly. We discuss how we practically experience grace in our worst moments, and define grace as that which invites us to turn toward God when we are at our worst. We consider whether you can offer grace without receiving grace and how grace is part of dying to self. Come join us at the table, and enjoy the show.
In the book of Ephesians, Paul writes, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God." But what is "grace"? As we head toward the holiday season, we're spending two weeks exploring what grace is and isn't and how God's grace changes everything.
