Sixes have excellent analytical minds, are great strategists, troubleshooters, problem-solvers, and of course, see worst-case scenarios that other people don't see. The passion of the Six is fear which is often experienced as anxiety…anxiety that the unexpected could happen at any time. But once they launch a mental narrative in their head of all that could go wrong, these fictional stories can take on lives of their own and can grow and crowd out what's actually happening.   Today, we revisit my conversation with Jeff Chu to explore the complexities of The Loyalist, and how knowing his Enneagram type has allowed him to identify those aspects of his personality that are responses to things he's been through in the past and work through them.     ---------------- Jeff Chu is a writer, reporter, Editor-at-large at Travel + Leisure, and Teacher in residence at Crosspointe Church. His reporting and writing has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Travel+Leisure, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and Modern Farmer. When big publishers were still starting magazines and pouring millions of dollars into them, Jeff was an editor on the launch team of the now-defunct Conde Nast Portfolio. And before that, he spent seven years at Time magazine, where he really received his journalistic education. Jeff was a London-based web producer and staff writer. In 2021, Jeff helped turn Rachel Held Evans' latest work-in-progress into a finished book titled, “Wholehearted Faith.”  He wove the words of her partial manuscript with other unpublished writings to create a rich collection of essays that ask candid questions about the stories we've been told—and the stories we tell—about our faith, our selves, and our world.

Listen in as we explore the importance of remembrance and the dangers of apostasy. Drawing from the words of Jude, we reflect on the goodness of God, His covenants with Israel, His commandments, and His unwavering love for us. We take a moment to pause and remember the events of September 11, 2001, discussing the impact it had on our nation and how the phrase "Let's roll" became a rallying cry in the fight against terrorism.Join us as we journey through biblical passages that discuss the rebellion of fallen angels. These heavenly beings, who were given specific roles and responsibilities, fell from grace when they disobeyed the divine order and left their proper dwellings. We examine the Greek word 'apoluma' found in John 3:36 and discuss the implications of God's wrath for those who defy His Son. In the final segment of our discussion, we highlight the perils of false teaching and apostasy. We discuss how God condemns prophets who spread lies and deceitful dreams in His name and how Paul warned Timothy of lying spirits and false teachings. We identify the tell-tale signs of those who have fallen away from faith, such as their insatiable sinful desires and their rejection of authority. Wrapping up the episode, we offer a prayer for humility, grace, and courage in our faith and service to God. Come and join us at Crosspointe Church for our service times at 9, 30, and 11 am.

IT COULD BE the most controversial passage in the Bible: The Nephilim [or giants] were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. (Gen 6:4, ESV) Scholars and theologians have argued over that verse for thousands of years. While scholars have come to accept that the verse means what it says, Christian seminaries still teach pastors that the “sons of God” were the righteous male descendants of Seth, the son of Adam and Eve.In 2019, I gave a presentation on this at the Look, He is Coming with the Clouds Prophecy Conference at Crosspointe Church in Sanger, California. The bottom line is this: The Nephilim were divine-human hybrids whose creation was universally accepted by the prophets, apostles, and early church. The spirits of the giants destroyed in the Flood of Noah are the demons that are with us today. Most important, the Hebrew prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel foretold the ultimate destruction of the Nephilim.

About the Speaker: Trey is the Associate Minister at CrossPointe Church in Mansfield, MA. He earned his Bachelor's of Arts in Biblical Studies from Cincinnati Christian University. Trey enjoys all things Andy Griffith and is an avid coffee drinker. He loves spending time with his wife Bailey, his sons Griffith and Shepherd, and his dog Watson. He was born and raised in Indiana, washed cattle in high school, and loves to listen to country music. More than anything else, Trey is most passionate about influencing people to live a sacrificial life devoted to King Jesus. Although, he lives just outside of Boston, MA, and is NOT a Patriots fan. About Chapel: The chapel theme for the 2021-2022 year is "upRoar". The Greek word that is translated as “uproar” isἐκταράσσω (ektarassō),: to agitate, to disturb wholly, to exceedingly trouble. Although an uproar is “seen,” it is preceded with a subversive force. The church operates in a similar way, being subversive to the rhythm of the culture it exists within. It is the perpetuation of this subversive force that causes and creates an uproar that is seen and felt. It is our goal this year to explore ways for us to participate in the subversive kingdom force that will create an uproar in the culture God calls us to. In this Episode we chat with Jeff Chu. Here is Jeff's bio in his own words. I wear several different hats to cover my coarse Chinese hair, which requires too much product to tame: Writer, reporter, editor. Co-curator and co-host, with Sarah Bessey, Of Evolving Faith. Editor-at-large at Travel & Leisure. Occasional preacher. Teacher in residence at Crosspointe Church. Ordinand in the Reformed Church in America (RCA). Cook, gardener, and dog walker to Fozzie in Michigan, where my husband and I moved last year. (First time living in the Midwest. Snow tires are a revelation!) Before that, I was a seminarian at Princeton Theological Seminary, where I worked as a farmhand at PTS's Farminary. Don't be deceived… When I got to the Farminary, a 21-acre experiment in sustainable agriculture that doubles as the world's best classroom, I didn't know anything about farming, and I had more experience killing plants than nurturing them. But my work on the farm changed me. More than anything else in my life, that land taught me about the story of life, death, and new life that God has written into creation. In this episode, Tyler had the opportunity to sit down with his friend and pastor, Brad Evangelista. For the past three years they've served as pastors together at CrossPointe Church. Since that time there's been a pretty typical pattern of local church ministry, until March of 2020. It's likely the circumstances of 2020 have been some of the most consistently difficult and widespread that many of us have faced. And yet, Brad reminds us that God's goodness and faithfulness can be clearly seen and trusted, even—especially—in such a time as this. Join us as we talk about church planting, matters of doctrine and theology, ministry and shepherding during a pandemic, some potential negative effects of "virtual church" and pastoral encouragement to counteract them, and a bit about youth ministry.

Tim was out being a youth pastor this morning, taking his kids to camp. He'll be back next week, and we'll have Derry Prenkert with us to talk all things camp. You won't want to miss it! Today we had Riley Lester in the hot seat. We talked about his weird path to full time employment, impending changes, and social evolution. It was a great show. Riley is the high schooll pastor, and only student ministry staffer, at Cross Pointe Church, a large multi site church in Georgia. He's been there a year. It is also Riley's first full time job in church world, despite finishing a church ministries degree four years ago. Riley felt God calling him to a specific kind of church setting, so instead of taking the first job he was offered, he volunteered and interned at churches that he would want to attend. This led to a year long residency and eventually a full time position, but it was certainly the path less taken. Riley is also about to get married. For the past year he has been in Georgia while his fiance, Savannah, has been in North West Arkansas. We talked about how his relationships and availability to his students would be shifting in the coming weeks and months. Finally, Riley and I (Andrew) talked about our relationship, and how it has changed from him being a student of mine, to now being one of my closest friends. We talked about the benefits of long term ministry, and why discipling individual students matters.
