Trouble? We eat trouble for breakfast! In Romans 12:12 we see three atmospheres, requiring three different attitudes from us. Trouble, or affliction, is just one of those atmospheres. No one likes difficulties, but they will come. The good news is that we can make our problems serve us. Jim will explain, and he'll walk us through the "Hope" and "Prayer" elements of this verse, as well. The thing about serving the Lord is, there are no days off! The difference between the sacred and the secular in the Christian's life is exactly zero. "Do all to the glory of God," Paul would write to the Corinthians. In his letter to the Romans, he talks about what that feels like from the inside. It feels like something bubbling over. Are we "fervent" - hot, boiling, heated by the flame of the Spirit? Here's the conclusion of Jim's sermon, Too Hot to Handle. Jesus Followers Can Personally Talk to God, the Universe's Creator, About Issues Like His Will for You; but Do You? MESSAGE SUMMARY: As a Jesus Follower, you have a personal relationship with God, the Creator of the Universe; and you can talk to God like you talk to your father. Remember God loves you. Imagine climbing up into His lap and imagine Him wrapping His arms around you – He is God your loving father. As God tells you in 2 Samuel 7:14-15: “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you.". You need to start talking to Him as the best dad there could ever be. Talk to God, regularly, about your life; your concerns; and your needs. You need to ask Him for His counsel, and you need to ask Him questions regarding His will for your life. TODAY'S PRAYER: Father, may the pains I experience in life kill the things that need to die in me — arrogance, pride, and indifference to others. Help me, daily, to see my frailty and how dependent I am on you, the Master of the Universe. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 72). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I will proclaim Him. (Philippians 1:15f). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. Join Pastor Alvin II this week as he continues our compelling series on "Prophecy"! In this episode, we're focusing on the immense importance of prophecy and how spiritual discernment is absolutely critical to understanding it. Get ready to learn the key distinctions between intuition (or soul discernment) and genuine spiritual discernment. Plus, we'll explore how the powerful testimony of Jesus Himself — who He is, what He's done, and what He's doing — is the very spark of prophecy and ultimately leads us closer to him. Don't be a sloth! Romans 12, verse 11 gives us three directives (one "don't" and two "do's"). They have to do with our outer work ethic, our inner state of excitement in the Spirit, and the purpose of it all: to "serve the Lord." A Christian working with diligence will certainly stand out next to someone advocating a 4-day work week and free paid everything, serving only his own comfort. But maybe this message is Too Hot to Handle. That's Jim's sermon title. Pastor Jesse Bollinger: Do you have a relationship that is strained or broken? Most do, so you're not alone. Jesus tells us that the second greatest commandment is to "love others as yourself," but this is easier said than done, especially since we're not told how. We'll explore what this looks like and gain some very powerful scriptural insights and tools to help us understand and apply this passage to our lives. There is hope, because compassion unlocks and heals relationships. "The Ideal vs the Real" is a concept which helps eliminate our critical tendencies and creates compassion in us. (Dr. Henry Cloud, Changes That Heal) "5 Elements of Trust" (Dr. Henry Cloud, Trust) "To practice showing compassion..." adapted from the concept of "Tactical Empathy" by Chris Voss of Black Swan Group, and common knowledge of psychology. In a world marked by outrage, division, and chaos, what does it look like to represent Jesus and His Kingdom? In this message, Pastor Ed Stetzer explores the Apostle Paul's passionate words to the church in Corinth—a church caught in cultural confusion and compromise. Through 2 Corinthians 5, we're reminded that our identity in Christ radically reshapes how we see the world and how we live within it.
"Outdo one another in showing honor." Ah, it's a contest! Most translations render the last part of Romans 12:10 something like, "in honor giving preference to one another." But others read, "Set examples for each other in showing respect." There's an element of eagerness that Paul is asking for: Get to the front of the line in this matter of putting others first! 2025-07-13 Judgement and Hopeby Pastor Chris BergScripture Reference: Micah 1:2-162 Hear, you peoples, all of you; pay attention, O earth, and all that is in it,and let the Lord God be a witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.3 For behold, the Lord is coming out of his place, and will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth.4 And the mountains will melt under him, and the valleys will split open, like wax before the fire, like waters poured down a steep place.5 All this is for the transgression of Jacob and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what is the high place of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem?6 Therefore I will make Samaria a heap in the open country, a place for planting vineyards, and I will pour down her stones into the valley and uncover her foundations.7 All her carved images shall be beaten to pieces, all her wages shall be burned with fire, and all her idols I will lay waste, for from the fee of a prostitute she gathered them, and to the fee of a prostitute they shall return.8 For this I will lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked;I will make lamentation like the jackals, and mourning like the ostriches.9 For her wound is incurable, and it has come to Judah;it has reached to the gate of my people, to Jerusalem.10 Tell it not in Gath; weep not at all;in Beth-le-aphrah roll yourselves in the dust.11 Pass on your way, inhabitants of Shaphir, in nakedness and shame;the inhabitants of Zaanan do not come out;the lamentation of Beth-ezel shall take away from you its standing place.12 For the inhabitants of Maroth wait anxiously for good, because disaster has come down from the Lord to the gate of Jerusalem.13 Harness the steeds to the chariots, inhabitants of Lachish;it was the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion, for in you were found the transgressions of Israel.14 Therefore you shall give parting gifts to Moresheth-gath;the houses of Achzib shall be a deceitful thing to the kings of Israel.15 I will again bring a conqueror to you, inhabitants of Mareshah;the glory of Israel shall come to Adullam.16 Make yourselves bald and cut off your hair, for the children of your delight;make yourselves as bald as the eagle, for they shall go from you into exile.
Prayer for America Message Summary: As Americans, we are a privileged people, all of us, to live in a country, relative to the rest of the world, that is privileged. The key element of this :privilege” is freedom. However, something has been changing -- we are seeing many of the freedoms and blessings of America changing into curses. For example, our obsession with materialism has put most Americans into the bondage of debt; and our drive to feel happy has led many into the addiction of drugs and alcohol. We must all realize that our freedoms and liberties must be used for Godly purposes, or we will lose our freedoms. As we are told in Psalms 33:12: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!". Today, through our actions, laws, and the cultural revisions of our founding Christian principles, we have told God that we don't want Him around. While God is love, He is, also, justice. Therefore, God has obliged us; and He has done what He said He would do -- God is withdrawing His presence and His protection and holding back His divine wisdom, which has guided us for so many years. God is leaving us to reap the consequences of our focus away from Him and to lives without Him. The signers of the Declaration of Independence began a revolution which started the United States of America. The American Revolution was rooted in the belief that all people, even the King and governmental leaders, are subject to the rule of God and not above the law; and everyone is endowed by God, our Creator, with certain inalienable rights. Many people have tried to deny that America's founders created a country which wove together the idea of self-governance with Christian principles. With God's Ten Commandments as the cornerstone of our Democracy, most Americans and those others living in our country cannot name even three of the Ten Commandments. If a Christian religious context was assumed, by the founders of America and the government based on the Constitution, it seems we have a significant problem in our culture today. Now, it appears, America's focus is to get rid of all things relating America to Christianity, the Bible, or anything that smacks of God – and, pretty much, these efforts to remove God's influence from the public square appear to be succeeding. Today, we must all Pray for America – to carve out a time each day when we, each and every one of us, prays for America. In our prayers, we must confess our sins as individuals and collectively as a country. Additionally, we must pray for our President, Members of Congress, the Supreme Court, and our other leaders and those others in authority. Our Prayers for America should pray for the moral issues of today; blessings and protection for our leaders that are walking the walk of their Christian faith; and for a Spiritual Revival and Awakening in America. We will not survive as a nation unless the people of God stand up before God and plead for the survival of America. Spiritual laws are like the laws of physics – they are absolute unless another force intervenes. Therefore, as America increases its violation of God's laws at an increasing rate, we will face both the implicit and explicit consequences of violating God's laws unless He intervenes – we must pray for God's intervention! Paul instructs us for our prayers in 1 Timothy 2:1-6: “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.". We must make Praying for America and, personally, for its leaders a priority in our lives. If we are praying, then God will show us what to do. Only the intervention of God will change the downward direction of America, and we must ask through our prayers. God has intervened before, and He will do it again. America was built on prayer, as we learn from the writings of Benjamin Franklin, and upon the Christian faith of our founders. Will You pray for America and take responsibility for the survival America and its blessings and freedoms for our country today and for our children and grandchildren in the future? TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV):Psalms 33:12; 1 Timothy 2:1-6; James 1:4; Proverbs 3:5-6; (Click the Bible References, in blue, below to read the full Bible text for these Scripture References. Pastor Matt Null: Joy and Passion for God's House This message reminds us it's a privilege and honor of being part of the mission of Jesus Christ! Going to church is not an obligation but an opportunity to be equipped, empowered, and connected. It's a continual, intentional choice to seek and respond to God's call.Casey Kerns: Welcome CultureThis message reminds us that a thriving, Christ-reflecting church is built on genuine hospitality—putting others first and creating a place people long to return to. When we honor others, we honor God.Tre Williams: Giving God your best: anything, everything, or nothing at all. This message calls us to give God our whole, undivided selves—not out of fear, but out of reverence—recognizing that Jesus gave His all for us. True worship isn't performance; it's the willing sacrifice of everything we are, holding nothing back.Scripture References:Psalms 122:1Psalms 150 1 Peter 4:9Acts 3Mark 12:30Deuteronomy 6:5-6Matthew 6:24Genesis 22:12
Do I matter? We all want to know that we have significance, value, worth, even honor. Well, that value was proven at the Cross. We were ransomed with something far more valuable than gold, as Peter writes: with the "precious blood of Christ." But our value isn't of any use hidden under the mattress. This worth is exchanged within the family - by living the faith life with other redeemed ones. Here's Jim to open a sermon called, Living Respectfully. This episode brings a stirring prophetic charge to the Body of Christ: the spirit of Jezebel is rising—not against the Church at large, but specifically targeting prophets and shepherds. In response, God is raising up Obadiahs—those who will preserve, protect, and provide for His chosen voices. This is a message of responsibility, revelation, and radical action. Are you ready to be part of the remnant that counters Jezebel's schemes?Scripture Reference: 1 Kings 18:4,13,

According to Joseph de Maistre, "Every country has the government it deserves." If the philosopher's point seems a little too sharp, how about the psalmist? "For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land of the righteous, so that the righteous will not put forth their hands to do wrong." We'll have to conclude that both good and bad rulers are instruments for God's purposes. We're looking at the first 7 verses of Romans 13 as we round out Jim's sermon, Respecting the Higher Powers. Don't be conformed to the culture, but comply with Congress? What? Romans, chapter 13 gives us the clearest instruction anywhere in Scripture of how Christians should relate to civil government. But let's not tear it out of its context. All that the Apostle has written in chapter 12 about being transformed, and our living sacrifice, is still in play. The key to understanding this is the idea of delegated authority. Here's Jim on Respecting the Higher Powers. "Communion" celebrates our common union. As we're thinking about the brotherhood and sisterhood of believers, let's not forget that we have a living picture of that in the Lord's Supper! Every time we celebrate this memorial meal, we can see God's love working not just in the vertical dimension - but horizontally, among our siblings in the family of the redeemed. We'll back up for a few minutes into yesterday's program, then Jim will close his thoughts on Romans 12 with Part 2 of, Behaving Like Brethren. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. Feeling disconnected in your church despite being surrounded by people? You're not alone. In this episode of Marked by Grace, Heath Lambert addresses one of the most common struggles in modern church life - cultivating authentic community instead of settling for surface-level acquaintances. Discover the biblical "one another" principle that transforms shallow relationships into deep, meaningful community. Learn why taking personal responsibility for relationships is the key to experiencing the authentic connection you're longing for.Timestamps0:00 - Introduction: Authentic community in a big church0:39 - The question: How to cultivate true community vs. acquaintances1:27 - Why this applies to churches of all sizes1:50 - Institutional vs. personal approaches to relationships2:56 - Galatians 6:2 - "Bear one another's burdens"3:16 - The "one another" passages in the New Testament4:20 - The merry-go-round analogy for biblical relationships5:53 - Why authentic relationships require trading places6:23 - The selfish approach to relationships (and why it fails)7:35 - Taking personal responsibility for relational investment8:16 - You don't need permission to serve others9:04 - Practical steps: listening, serving, investing in people9:32 - The principle: Those who invest most receive the greatest return10:20 - Personal example: Medical troubles revealing relational investmentKey PointsThe "One Another" Principle: The New Testament contains dozens of "one another" commands - bear, love, serve, teach, encourage one another. These form the foundation of authentic Christian community. The Merry-Go-Round Model: Healthy relationships require people to "trade places" - sometimes you're the one being served (sitting on the merry-go-round), sometimes you're the one serving (pushing the merry-go-round).Common Relationship Problem: Often people who complain about lack of community are being selfish - waiting for others to invest in them instead of taking initiative to invest in others.Personal Responsibility: You don't need permission to take relational responsibility. You can start serving, encouraging, and investing in others immediately. The Investment Principle: Those who make the biggest relational investments typically receive the greatest return - but this shouldn't be the motivation for serving.Practical Action Steps: Start listening to others, serve people's needs, and make genuine investments in their lives rather than waiting for others to initiate.Long-term Perspective: When you consistently invest in others, you build a community that will support you when you need it most.Scripture ReferencesGalatians 6:2 - "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." - The foundation for authentic communityVarious "One Another" Passages - Throughout the New Testament, believers are commanded to love one another, serve one another, teach one another, encourage one another, and bear with one another.Have a question you'd like answered? "Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another...." In Romans, Paul offers us grand theology, as well as some "Do's and Don'ts" of getting along with others: "...distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality." He writes, "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Agree toward one another." Today Pastor Jim begins a sermon called, Behaving Like Brethren. On occasion we address Covenant Church family questions during the Sunday morning message. We want to engage our folks where they are, and these questions help our pastors be more effective, by understanding where they struggle. There are many decisions Covenant makes, positions we take et al that do not make the difference between heaven and hell, and on which other churches sometimes take a different approach. Because our church is multi-denominational, we have many rich faith traditions represented among our people. Today we look at “What About the Women?” What does the Bible teach us about the role of women in the church?Join in as we listen to answers on difficult questions about our faith, and our church.LINKS + RESOURCES FROM THIS EPISODE:• Recommended reading for this message: Two Views of Women in Ministry; Sandra Glahn, Ph.D., “Nobody's Mother”; “Jesus & Gender” by Elyse M. On this Fourth of July Week, Will You "Stand in the Gap" for Our County to Participate in and Lead a Great Awakening and Spiritual Renewal in America? MESSAGE SUMMARY: On July 4, 1776, the signers of the Declaration of Independence began a revolution which started the United States of America. The Revolution was rooted in the belief that all people, even the King and governmental leaders, are subject to the rule of God and not above the law and; and everyone is endowed by God, our Creator, with certain inalienable rights. Many people have tried to deny that America's founders created a country which wove together the idea of self-governance with Christian principles. Now, it appears, the focus is to get rid of things relating America to Christianity, the Bible, or anything that smacks of God – and, pretty much these efforts to remove God's influence from the public square, appear to be succeeding. We need to hear, in Today's sermon, what our founders said regarding America's Christian base. However, not long after the enactment of the Constitution in the late 1700s, morality and church attendance declined drastically into a Spiritual Depression. The answer became the nationwide implementation of "Concerts of Prayer", across all Christian denominations, that led to an American Spiritual Awakening. Today, through our actions, laws, and cultural revisions of our founding Christian principles, we have told God that we don't want Him around. Therefore, God has obliged us; and He has done what He said He would do -- God is withdrawing His presence and His protection and holding back His divine wisdom, which has guided us for so many years. God is leaving us to reap the consequences of our focus away from Him and without Him. The Lord Said through Ezekiel: "I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.". We must have a Spiritual Awakening, in our country, beginning today! Will You "Stand in the Gap"? TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, Sabbath rest is truly an unbelievable gift! Thank you that there is nothing I can do to earn your love; it comes without any strings attached. As I close my eyes for these few minutes before you, all I can say is, thank you! In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 133). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. Love, and right. When fake Christians parrot the words, "God is love," they mean, "God is love and does not judge." But the Bible explains, "Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth." That's in Paul's famous "love chapter," 1 Corinthians 13. So real love - "true love," as we've been discussing - not only distinguishes good from evil; it aligns itself with righteousness. We can't love without giving, but we can give without loving. Love gives. It doesn't have to be prodded, it doesn't overthink things, it doesn't care how the gift might look to others - love just gives. God so loved, that He gave. That stands in contrast, a lot of times, to our giving. That's what we noticed yesterday from Romans 12. Today Jim will tell us all 4 obstacles to genuine love. God Still Speaks: The Gift of Prophecy In this powerful message, Pastor Ants unpacks the biblical gift of prophecy — a reminder that God still speaks today, and He wants to speak through you. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 14, we explore what prophecy is (and isn't), how it functions in the life of the Church, and why it's a gift that every believer should eagerly desire. You'll learn the difference between the spirit of prophecy, the gift of prophecy, and the office of a prophet, and how each plays a role in building up the Body of Christ. You'll also get practical steps for growing in the gift:
"The Academy award goes to....!" In our study of Romans 12 we've noticed that God distributes gifts to those in His family, to build each other up. But it's possible to employ those gifts in a kind of hollow performance. Are we just acting? Or are we being driven by love? And why is it so hard to take off the mask? What are we afraid will happen if people see the real Me? Jim will share some insights into that. Here's the opening to his sermon, True Love. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. God Is Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, and You Pray to One Triune Being – God, the Creator of the Universe MESSAGE SUMMARY: In Mark 8:29, Jesus asked His Disciples the question He asks you: “And he asked them, ‘But who do you say that I am?' Peter answered him, ‘You are the Christ {Messiah}.'". As Paul writes in Ephesians 4:1-6: “There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.”. God IS Father, IS Son, and He IS Holy Spirit. Jesus told the crowd in the Temple; and He tells us, as it is recorded for us now by the Apostle John, in John 10:25,30: “Jesus answered them, ‘I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me . . . I and the Father are one.'”. Also, Jesus provides more insights to your Trinitarian relationship with God in John 14:18-20: “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.". God is one God, but He is in three natures: God is Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Therefore, when you pray, you are praying to one triune being – God, the Creator of the Universe. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, help me to be still and to wait patiently for you in silence. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 125). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, He will supply all my needs (Philippians 4:19). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. What if God were to give you a gift wrapped in brown paper? We're not just adopted into the divine family; we've been given a gift for blessing others. And let's just admit it: we all want the spectacular gifts. The Corinthians wanted the flashy gifts, the Romans were tempted toward envy or pride because of how God had gifted them. But it stands to reason that most of our gifts will be ordinary. Functional, not flashy. Are we OK with that? Jesus Explained that His Followers Would Both Pray and Fast, and Prayer and Fasting Are Matters of Heart Between His Followers and God MESSAGE SUMMARY: There are times when you need clarity, understanding, knowledge and insights from God about the specific issues that you are facing. In your personal relationship with God, the Lord will speak to you; but sometimes it takes both your listening and fasting to hear Him. Jesus, in Matthew 6:18, was speaking to the Apostles as well as those gathered for His “Sermon on the Mount” where he explained that praying and fasting are matters of the heart between Jesus Followers and God. Jesus assumes that his followers will fast: "that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Lay Up Treasures in Heaven.”. Also, when Joel received a Word when the land was to be destroyed, he called a fast (i.e. Joel 1:14): “Consecrate a fast; call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.”. Some things you are facing in your life must be dealt with by both prayer and fasting. Fasting releases a spiritual power – in your weakness, God is made strong in your life. Daniel's prayer, from Daniel 9:3-5, provides a context for asking direction from God: “Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the LORD my God and made confession, saying, ‘O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules.'". TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, you know how difficult it is for me to be in silence before you. At times it feels almost impossible, given the demands, distractions, and noise all around me. I invite you to lead me to a quiet, silent place before you — to a place where I can hear you as Elijah did. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 123). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, because I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Self-Centeredness. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit's fruit of Love. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). Pastor Heath Lambert examines whether the American Revolution was biblically justified, combining Christian theology with American history. Perfect for July 4th discussions about faith, patriotism, and Romans 13's teaching on government authority.TIMESTAMPS0:00 - Introduction: Revolution and Faith for July 4th1:07 - The Question: Were the Founding Fathers Sinful to Rebel?2:11 - The Complexity: Widespread Colonial Support Including Churches3:29 - Old North Church Example: Churches Supporting Revolution4:54 - Biblical Context: New Testament Isn't a Revolution Manual6:08 - Romans 13: Submit to Governing Authorities7:50 - The Qualification: When Government Fails Its Purpose9:11 - Biblical Justification: Government Must Serve Good, Not Evil9:49 - Practical Justification: Colonies Tried Peaceful Appeals First10:30 - Key Distinction: Replacing Bad Government with Better Government11:01 - Conclusion: Revolution Not Forbidden When Biblically JustifiedKEY POINTSWidespread Colonial Support: The desire for independence wasn't limited to political leaders - it included preachers and churches. The Old North Church's role in Paul Revere's signal demonstrates how local congregations actively supported the rebellion against England.New Testament Purpose: The Bible isn't written to promote political revolution but to advance the gospel. Christians shouldn't look to Scripture as a manifesto for independence, though biblical principles can inform political decisions.Romans 13 and Government's Role: Government is instituted by God to reward good conduct and punish evil. When rulers become "a terror to good conduct" and fail to serve as "God's servant for your good," the biblical foundation for absolute submission is undermined.Biblical Justification for Revolution: The Founding Fathers had biblical grounds to rebel when the British government stopped protecting good and started punishing it. A government that fails its God-given purpose opens the door for legitimate resistance.Practical Justifications: The colonies exhausted peaceful appeals to the crown and Parliament before resorting to revolution. They sought to replace bad government with better government, not create anarchy.Christian Approach to Revolution: While revolution should never be Christians' main occupation, believers aren't forbidden from working to improve unjust government situations when done biblically and practically.Submit your questions for future episodes to MarkedbyGrace@fbcjax.comSCRIPTURE REFERENCESRomans 13:1-4 - "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God... he is God's servant for your good" - The biblical foundation for both government submission and the limits of that submission
In this message, Pastor Alvin continues our series, The Character of the Holy Spirit Pt 3, teaching the difference between the Holy Spirit's Character and ours. This week's part is called "Different than Mine". This message covers how the Holy Spirit in nature is different from our nature and our humanity. To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be completely full. When we are completely full, our character begins to look more like Holy Spirit. When we are full our words and actions prove it. Are we mutilating the Body of Christ? Here in the land of "rugged individualism" we live our lives disconnected. We're often separated from kin and community by geography and economics. Now technology can connect us, but often isolates us even more. We were not meant to live our Christian lives this way. We were baptized into something: into the church. In it, we don't lose our individuality; we find ourselves. When Jesus spoke, soldiers fell. Why? Because “I AM” isn't just a name—it's a revelation. In this sermon, Pastor Clayton takes us to John 18, where Jesus meets His arrest with calm authority and divine clarity. When He declares, “I AM He,” it echoes the voice from the burning bush in Exodus 3—the same voice that created the universe.Jesus isn't hiding His identity. He's revealing it.He knows He is God.He wants you to know it too.And John wants to make sure you never forget it.

Wake Up America! MESSAGE SUMMARY: Paul points out to us, in Romans1:18, that God is not a disinterested bystander in either our lives or the life of our country: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.". From the end of WWI, in 1918, through the middle of the 1930s, Hitler and the National Socialist Party coopted the Christian Churches in Germany as the National Socialists rose to power politically, thereby, reducing Germany to only one state-supported religion. Also, the National Socialists coopted all of Germany's political parties to reduce Germany to a one-party country. Is the Christian Church, here in the US, abdicating its role, as the Christian Church did in Germany, by not speaking with a voice that is heard against the changing culture? As followers of Jesus, we and our churches need to wake up to the cultural changes that are opposed to Jesus' teachings and the Bible. The US was created, by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, to be a “country of laws”; and the founding legal context for these laws was the Ten Commandments of God. However, our current and evolving culture, and its related value system, is opposed to the Ten Commandments of God. As we adhere to the new culture and its values, we are in opposition to God and the basic tenants of Christianity. Therefore, our departure from God positions us for the Wrath of God as posited in Romans 1:18. God's Wrath may well take the form of God turning us over to our lusts, desires and the outcomes of this changed culture – as we walk away from God, He may walk away from us. It is not too late for the US to wake up! As God told Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.". God has instructed us that He will forgive us if we: 1) humble ourselves: 2) seek Him, not our culture; 3) turn from wicked ways; and 4) pray. Will America wake up and follow God's instructions? TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”What happens when you start defining yourself by your struggles rather than by your God-given identity? Deacon Gerald Marie Anthony tackles this profound question in a conversation that strikes at the heart of what it means to be authentically human in our confused modern world. The conversation delves deep into what Pope Pius X called "the synthesis of all heresies"—modernism—which teaches us we don't need God to progress. This mindset manifests when we put our ultimate trust in money, work, technology, or social acceptance rather than in our Creator. Through St. Faustina and the Divine Mercy devotion, we discover the antidote to modernism's emptiness. Whether you're battling pornography addiction, wrestling with unwanted attractions, or simply feeling lost in today's confusing cultural landscape, by placing our trust in Jesus rather than in ourselves or worldly solutions, we can experience true transformation. How can embracing this identity help us overcome modern emptiness? What are the dangers of modernism, as described by Deacon Anthony, which places trust in worldly things like money, technology, or social acceptance instead of God, and how does Scripture guide us to trust in God alone?Scripture Reference: Matthew 6:24 – “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. Where do we worship God? Everywhere! To present our bodies as a living sacrifice is our "reasonable" act of worship, Paul writes. That Greek word denotes something "pertaining to the mind and soul." More than just physical service: we're offering every part of ourselves - spirit, soul and body. And that happens everywhere! One more word that we need to know for today's study, is "publican." That's a tax collector; a man of low status in the first century. Now we come to a verse that most Christians disobey. If we've read and understood the first 11 chapters of Romans, then we see our situation clearly: We've been rescued purely by the goodness of the Father, and the merits of Christ. We certainly don't have any reason to boast. And that should create gratitude in our hearts. And that gratitude should grow into love, and a desire to serve and please God. That would be a Worthy Response. "...and so all Israel shall be saved." Here's the point of Paul's three-chapter argument in Romans 9 through 11: Far from being done with the Jewish people, God will draw them to Himself. And they will come the same way everyone else comes - the only Way - through faith in Messiah Jesus. Even Israel's lack of belief now, is part of the exquisite plan of Heaven. This truth has implications for every person and nation on the Earth. Here's Jim in Romans 11. We'll be baffled by current events if we don't know history... and we can't understand history without the Bible! God has made promises to the people of Israel. And those promises will be fulfilled - regardless the opinions of the UN, or the media, or the "Palestinians," so-called. Even bad theology by Christians won't hinder the plans of "the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." Some of those plans had been a secret, Paul says. But not anymore. Navigating family relationships when you disagree with your family's church choice is one of the most challenging situations Christians face. Pastor Heath Lambert provides biblical wisdom for this delicate balance between family loyalty and theological convictions. Using the framework of theological triage, this episode helps believers understand when to compromise, when to stand firm, and how love should guide every decision in church conflicts.TIMESTAMPS0:00 - Introduction: The Family Church Dilemma0:39 - The Question: Attending Unbiblical Churches for Family Unity1:49 - Why This Question Matters: Children and Family Dynamics2:51 - Understanding Biblical vs Unbiblical: Not All Errors Are Equal3:06 - Theological Triage: Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Issues4:05 - Primary Issues: Salvation-Essential Doctrines4:55 - Secondary Issues: Important but Not Salvation-Critical5:16 - Baptism Example: Baptist vs Presbyterian Practices6:46 - Tertiary Issues: End Times and Christian Disagreements8:17 - The Law of Love: 1 John 4:7 as the Ultimate Guide8:53 - Pride vs Conviction: Testing Our Motivations9:26 - When Love Means Compromise vs When Love Means Standing Firm10:13 - Final Answer: It Depends on Error Type and Love's DirectionKEY POINTSThe Reality of Family Church Conflicts: Christians often find themselves where their theological convictions differ from their family's church choice, creating tension between honoring family and maintaining biblical faithfulness.Theological Triage Framework: Not all biblical errors are equally serious. Churches can be "unbiblical" in different ways requiring different responses - understanding this hierarchy helps believers respond appropriately.Primary Issues - Salvation Essential: Doctrines so central that denying them prevents salvation, like salvation by grace through faith alone. Churches with primary errors should generally be avoided regardless of family pressure.Secondary Issues - Important but Not Salvation-Critical: Matters affecting church practice but not salvation, like baptism methods. Faithful Christians can disagree while remaining in fellowship.Tertiary Issues - Ongoing Christian Disagreements: Matters where good Christians disagree until Christ returns, like millennium details. These shouldn't divide churches or families. The Law of Love as the Ultimate Test: Love for both family and God must guide decisions. Love sometimes requires compromise on preferences, other times demands taking a stand for essential truth.Submit your questions for future episodes to MarkedbyGrace@fbcjax.comSCRIPTURE REFERENCES1 John 4:7 - "Beloved, let us love one another" - The law of love as the guiding principle for all theological and relational decisionsActs 5:29 - "We must obey God rather than men" - Referenced principle for when obedience to God requires standing against family pressure

Today I want to warn you to avoid three dangerous traps. These traps will kill your love for God and your desire for his will. They are traps that Satan uses every single day.The traps are found in first John 215 through 17. The Bible says this do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the father, but is of the world, and the world is passing away and the lust of it.But he who does the will of God abides forever. So the dangerous devices, according to the word of God, that you must be aware of as you go about your day and as you go about your journey, are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.
