Your newsfeed needs an interpreter! Ideally journalists would tell us about events that really happened. But even then, those occurrences would need context, and some sort of key or template so that we could make sense of them. You're way ahead of me: The Bible is that key. Today's headlines are just random recitations without the grid of the eternal Word of God. Let's take another peek at the back of the Book, Revelation 13. Here's Jim with Part 2 of his message, Satanic Imagery. Is the Antichrist creeping up on us? Will we awaken one day to find the Mark of the Beast hidden in our computers, our phones, our watches? We know that the devil loves to quietly infiltrate our institutions - including our churches. The Snake is a sneak. But in the Last Days he'll be a lot less subtle. Big, worldwide signs and universal edicts will be his new style. Today, we'll learn some of that Satanic Imagery, with Jim. Will disciplining children for tantrums and outbursts damage their willingness to share feelings and communicate openly? Discover four biblical principles that show how proper discipline actually strengthens rather than harms parent-child relationships.TIMESTAMPS0:00 - Introduction: The Heart of a Torn Parent1:09 - The Core Question About Discipline and Relationship1:33 - Principle 1: Spankings Are Not the Only Thing We Do2:57 - Principle 2: Spankings Are for Sin, Not Feelings3:31 - Clarifying What We Punish vs. What We Discuss4:21 - Teaching Children to Identify Their Sin5:15 - Principle 3: Discipline Is Parental Obedience to God5:39 - Proverbs 13:24 - Love Disciplines Diligently6:31 - Building Character Through Parental Integrity6:57 - Principle 4: Spanking Is Not the Last Step7:45 - The Lambert House Rule: Don't Leave Angry8:22 - Ending Discipline with Prayer, Grace, and Restoration8:44 - When Discipline Goes Wrong vs. RightMAIN POINTS- Spankings Are Not the Only Thing We DoPhysical correction should be a very small percentage of overall parenting time. Parents who discipline have earned that right through much larger investments of positive relationship building. - Discipline is placed within a broader context of love and care throughout daily life.- Spankings Are for Sin, Not Feelings or PreferencesChildren should never be punished for having feelings, needing to talk, or making mistakes. - Discipline is specifically for sin - violations of God's law. Parents must clearly communicate the difference between emotions that need discussion and sinful behaviors that require correction.- Discipline Is Parental Obedience That Models IntegrityFollowing Proverbs 13:24, parents demonstrate love through diligent discipline. This shows children that parents have integrity and follow God's commands, building rather than undermining confidence in the parent-child relationship over a lifetime.- Discipline Should End with Restoration, Not AngerThe Lambert house rule was to never leave discipline sessions angry. After confession, forgiveness, and correction, the process should end with prayer, grace, and often laughter and affection. The goal is restoring the relationship broken by sin through faithfulness to God's Word.SCRIPTURE REFERENCESPrimary Passages:Proverbs 13:24 - Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline himSupporting Context:Proverbs 22:15 - Folly is bound up in the heart of a childProverbs 23:13-14 - Do not withhold discipline from a childHebrews 12:5-11 - God disciplines those he lovesEphesians 6:1-4 - Children obey parents; fathers don't provoke to angerDeuteronomy 6:6-7 - Teaching children diligentlyColossians 3:21 - Fathers, do not embitter your childrenHave a question you'd like answered? Go! Make Disciples! MESSAGE SUMMARY: Most Christians, today, are living in disobedience to the Lord – Christians and churches are ignoring the commands of Jesus.  In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus told His Apostles, in His last commission right before His Ascension to Heaven: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”. Jesus commanded His Apostles to Go and to Make Disciples. This is the mandate to every follower of Jesus. Christians were not called “Christians” until Acts 11. Before Acts 11, they were referred to as “Disciples”. Being a “Disciple” is a way of living and being – a liver, teacher, and doer of Jesus commandments and His Gospel. The Bible teaches us the characteristics of being a “Disciple”: 1) loving; 2) Holy Spirit filled; 3) knowing and is learning the Bible; 4) knowing how to pray; 5) knowing how to Worship; 6) walking with Jesus; 7) sharing with others in need; 8) having a disciple; and 9) being a faithful witness. God wants a personal dynamic relationship with us. The people of our world need the followers of Jesus to GO and to MAKE DISCIPLES. People are waiting to see Jesus through His followers – people who can speak the Word of God to them. The literal translation of Matthew 28:19-20 is not the command “Go” but “as you Go”. Jesus was assuming that, as His followers, we were already Going (i.e. Evangelism); therefore, His command of us was: as you go, make Disciples!   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, I now take a deep breath and stop. So often I miss your hand and gifts in my life because I am preoccupied and anxious. Grant me the power to pause each day and each week to simply rest in your arms of love. In Jesus' name, amen.    Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 132). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! Has Jesus returned already? Some early Christians were upset to hear that the Lord had come back, and they had missed it. That sounds kind of silly to us because we know that, when Jesus appears, no one will miss it! We have His word on that. And there are some events that must happen first. There's a mass de-conversion, for one thing; the Apostasy. And the capital-A Antichrist has to arise. We're in Daniel 9, talking not about the Rapture, but the Return. "Does anybody really know what time it is?" When it comes to reading the signs of the End, there's a lot of confusion. Some of that is intentional. Some of the befuddlement comes from putting too much stock in speculation - ours, or a teacher's. But Jesus wasn't confused. His watch was accurate to the nanosecond. He knew the prophetic time the same way we can know it: by the prophetic text. Here's Pastor Jim with part 1 of, So When You See...Be Sure to Flee. Pastor Heath Lambert tackles the controversial question of women's voting rights from a biblical worldview. In this episode, he addresses whether Christians should believe women should lose the right to vote based on male headship principles. Lambert provides clear biblical reasoning on government, voting rights, and how Christian families can maintain unity and biblical leadership while still allowing women to participate in democracy. This thoughtful analysis separates biblical mandates from cultural preferences and offers practical wisdom for Christian families navigating political participation.Key Timestamps0:13 - Question introduction: Should women be allowed to vote?2:02 - Biblical perspective on voting and government3:16 - Examples of biblical leadership (judges and kings)4:14 - Why voting isn't mandated or forbidden in Scripture5:53 - Reality check: Women's voting rights aren't going away6:31 - Why women should retain voting rights7:48 - Problems with male-only voting in a fallen world8:32 - How Christian families can vote with unity and leadershipKey Points- Voting is Extra-Biblical: The Bible doesn't mandate or forbid voting systems. Biblical examples show righteous government through judges and kings, not democratic processes.- Scripture Silence Means Freedom: Since the Bible doesn't specify voting requirements, Christians have freedom in how voting systems operate.- Male Headship Doesn't Equal Vote Monopoly: Biblical male leadership in the home doesn't logically require removing women's voting rights.- Fallen World Considerations: Single women, widows, and women in ungodly marriages would be left without representation under male-only voting.- Unity Through Leadership, Not Restriction: Christian families can maintain biblical unity and male leadership while still allowing all members to vote.- Practical Family Example: Families can discuss issues biblically, pray together, and reach unified voting decisions without eliminating anyone's right to participate.Scripture ReferencesRomans 13:1-7 - "Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God... For the one in authority is God's servant for your good."Biblical Examples of Leadership:Judges 13-16 - Samson's leadership periodJudges 6-8 - Gideon raised up as judge over Israel1 Samuel 8-31 - Establishment and history of Israel's monarchyJudges 2:16 - "Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders"Ephesians 5:23 - "For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church"1 Timothy 3:4-5 - Regarding household leadership and church governanceHave a question you'd like answered? To expect something but not be ready for it - why, that would be foolish! Half of the 10 virgins in Jesus' parable were foolish. They expected the Bridegroom to arrive... but they expected Him to arrive soon! They must have thought they had reasons to believe that. But they didn't really know the Groom - and that was their fatal folly. As we dive into Part 2 of the message, They Didn't Know, we're still looking at the Lord's answer to the question about when He'll return. Hearing God's Voice MESSAGE SUMMARY: Introduction: The Gospel is based on both the Old and the New Testaments. The Gospel must go forth in the power of the Holy Spirit – the Gospel is a Spiritual message. Today's Message: In John 10, Jesus is speaking about the “shepherd”; the shepherd: 1) enters through the gate; 2) has the gate opened by a watchman; 3) sheep listen to his voice; 4) calls each sheep by name; 5) leads his sheep by going ahead of the sheep; and 6) has a voice by which he is known to his sheep and they follow him. In the first century, shepherding was an intimate profession; and the shepherd was always with his sheep. The shepherd talked to his sheep, and the sheep knew the shepherd's voice. Also, in John 10, Jesus talked about the “false shepherd” who is a “thief and a robber”. The sheep do not follow the “false shepherd”. Jesus says that the “thief (false shepherd) comes only to steal, kill and destroy”. In John 10:7-10, Jesus says that He is the “gate”, and He is the way (gate) by which we are saved from our sins and eternal death; and we are provisioned for a full life as His followers. Like the sheep that follow the good shepherd, if we follow Jesus, we will all hear His voice. How do we know the voice of Jesus? Consider that: 1) we must enter only through the gate – Jesus; 2) we must be a sheep of the Good Shepherd and follow Jesus through an intimate relationship with Him; 3) we must learn to listen (for example, today we listen through the inward witness of the Holy Spirit – the Holy Spirit is charged with communicating the will of God to mankind and to sync our mind with the mind of God); 4) we obey as we listen – in the New Testament, the words “hear” and “obey” are the same words – God will speak directions for our lives; and 5) we don't harden our hearts to the voice of the Lord – listen to His voice and obey. As the Lord says: “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalms 46:10).   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, help me to grab hold of you today. I need you. Set me free to begin reorienting my life around you, and you alone. Help me to pay attention to and honor how you have uniquely made me. Thank you for the gift of rest. In Jesus' name, amen.            Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 122). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): John 10:1-18; Ezekiel 34:22-34; John 5:25-29: Ezekiel 43:2;1 King's 19:12; Isaiah 30:21; John 10:27-30; Hebrews 3:7-15. Could something that's never happened, happen? By definition, if something has occurred, we know it can occur. But what about the unprecedented? We have a blind spot in this area, don't we? If something has never happened, in the entire history of the world, it's so unlikely that we'd be safe to think of it as impossible. That's an error that humanity fell into before the Flood. Is it our mistake, too? Here's Jim to begin his sermon called, They Didn't Know. Are you ready for the rain? There was only one way to be ready for the Flood, and that was to get in the Ark. Practicing your swimming "just in case" wasn't going to save anyone. It was the Ark, or death. And the only reason you'd get in that odorous Ark would be if you believed that judgment was coming. Today, as in the days of Noah, there are a few who believe that judgment is coming, and a great multitude who are "living for the weekend" - just like Jesus told us in Matthew 24. If I had a hammer, I'd hammer in the morning... for 120 years! Noah must have worn out his hammer building the Ark... then another one... then another one. All that pounding and all that "gopher wood" were a testimony to everyone around. There were other testimonies, too. But when water started falling from the sky - for the first time ever - people were confused. They "didn't know." Today we begin a study on the signs of the Lord's return. Have we just stuck Jesus onto our old lives? When we look at the Apostle Paul's life, we see purpose. We see a plan. And his plan didn't always turn out to be God's plan, so that's reassuring. What we don't see is a life of leisure, putting in his time, coasting to Heaven. He was "all in." We're looking at Romans, chapter 15, and taking stock of the world, and of Christianity then, versus now. And asking, "What happened?" Pastor Heath Lambert tackles a crucial theological question: Was Jesus tempted, and what does that mean? Discover the difference between external and internal temptation, and how understanding these distinctions helps us comprehend how Jesus could be "tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin."TIMESTAMPS0:00 - Introduction: The Question About Jesus' Temptation0:49 - What Is Temptation? External temptation becomes spiritually significant only when it meets internal corruption.- External Temptation Is Situational, Not Necessarily SinfulBeing in a potentially tempting situation isn't inherently wrong. The sinfulness comes from the internal response - the corrupt desire that matches up with the external opportunity. Different people are tempted by different external circumstances based on their internal desires.- Jesus Faced All External TemptationsScripture clearly states that Jesus was "tempted in every way as we are" (Hebrews 4:15) and was "led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil" (Matthew 4:1). Every potentially tempting situation that exists confronted Jesus during His earthly ministry.- Jesus Had No Internal CorruptionThough Jesus faced all external temptations, He had no internal corruption or sinful desires to match them. His heart was always trusting in the Lord and wanting to do righteousness. This is why He could be tempted externally yet remain "without sin" - there was no internal spiritual corruption to respond to the external circumstances.SCRIPTURE REFERENCESPrimary Passages:Matthew 4:1 - Jesus led into wilderness to be temptedHebrews 4:15 - Tempted in every way as we are, yet without sinJames 1:13-14 - God cannot be tempted; each person tempted by own desireSupporting Context:James 1:13 - Let no one say when tempted, "I am being tempted by God"James 1:14 - Each person is lured and enticed by his own desire1 John 2:16 - The desires of the flesh, eyes, and pride of life1 Corinthians 10:13 - No temptation beyond what you can bearHave a question you'd like answered? The Sermons on the Amount, Part 4 - The Devastation of Debt MESSAGE SUMMARY: This Sermon series assembles important Biblical references to all aspects of money and finances and their influence and impact on us; therefore, helping us to apply these Scriptures to our lives today. The reason for this series is because money and possessions have captivated our culture; and the Bible gives us specific instructions regarding how we should handle money. Debt is the obligation to pay back what is owed, while being in bondage to another person. Additionally, being in debt means we are presumptuous about the future, as we are told in James 4:13-14: “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.". The effects of debt on our lives include: 1) producing bondage to creditors; 2) causing us to evade self-examination; 3) interfering with God's provision; 4) damaging to God's reputation; 5) promoting impulse buying; 6) promoting impulse spending; and 7) stealing our resources through high interest payments. Suggestions for dealing with the effects of personal debt on you and your families: 1) start where you are and intentionally get out of debt – a purpose in your heart as a priority; 2) it is OK to ask for help; 3) live within your means; 4) pay with cash or a debit card and stop using credit cards; 5) begin to save as much as you can; and 6) ask God to help you – pray daily for God's guidance and wisdom. Get out of debt and don't be a slave to debt. As Jesus tells you in Matthew 7:26-27: “And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”. God is a faithful; pray for His help guidance in your debt and financial situation before it is too late.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen.    Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. Who should be ministering what, to whom? Toward the end of his letter to the Romans Paul gives us some background on his assignment to the Gentiles. He wasn't sent out with rituals and sacraments, or even hidden knowledge. It was a mission to bring the gospel in a powerful way. Got hope? Our world is in a freefall of despair. It would be depressing even to mention some of the tragedies we've seen recently - caused by empty philosophies and dark theologies. The Answer to Cancel Culture? Jesus Followers Must Lead a New Culture of “Grace and Kindness” Respecting the Ideas of Others MESSAGE SUMMARY: Following Jesus the Christ produces a culture of grace, mercy, and kindness is an environment in which there is no griping or murmuring; no putting people down – just respect for the words and ideas of others. Paul relates, in Galatians 5:22-26, and defines the outcomes or “Fruits of the Spirit” and how they relate to a “Culture of Grace”: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.". This culture of grace, mercy, and kindness gives people the benefit of the doubt; and it provides a visible demonstration of how you value other people and their views and perspectives. By providing a culture of Grace and mercy, along with respect for others, you create an atmosphere that is filled with the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Also, leading discussions in an environment of Grace and kindness lets others see Jesus in you.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, everything in me resists following you into the garden of Gethsemane to fall on my face to the ground before you. Grant me the courage to follow you all the way to the cross, whatever that might mean for my life. And then, by your grace, lead me to resurrection life and power. What if you had to put all your proposed actions up for a vote? Your choices will now be approved by the committee! Sitting on that board will be your conscience, your family (especially your children), and others who look up to you. And a few strangers. That's not very practical, you're right. But if you're thinking it would infringe on your freedoms, Pastor Jim has a few thoughts he'd like to share with you. The Arguments Against Baptizing Babies

Marked by Grace

Should Christians baptize infants or only believers? This age-old debate divides denominations and families. In this episode of Marked by Grace, Heath Lambert respectfully tackles the arguments against infant baptism from a Baptist perspective. Despite having two Presbyterian mentors who deeply influenced his ministry, Heath examines three key areas: biblical teaching, biblical examples, and biblical covenants. Discover why there's no New Testament command to baptize babies, what household baptisms really teach, and how covenant signs relate to the nature of God's covenants.Timestamps0:00 - Introduction: Arguments against baptizing babies3:07 - Personal story: Two Presbyterian mentors who shaped Heath's ministry5:53 - Why church history can't be our ultimate authority7:12 - Biblical teaching: No New Testament text commands infant baptism8:07 - Colossians 2:11-12 doesn't teach infant baptism10:54 - 1 Peter 3:21 doesn't mention infant baptism12:35 - Romans 6:3-5: Baptism requires faith and understanding14:22 - Biblical examples: Household baptisms and arguments from silence16:24 - Biblical covenants: Signs must match the nature of the covenantKey Points- No Clear Biblical Command: There is no text in the New Testament that explicitly commands or describes the baptism of infants - this is a significant issue when establishing Christian practice.- Church History vs. Scripture: While church historians can be quoted on both sides of the infant baptism debate, Scripture must be our ultimate authority, not historical precedent.- Colossians 2:11-12 Misunderstood: This passage speaks of spiritual circumcision "made without hands" and assumes the baptized person has faith - it cannot refer to infant baptism.- Household Baptisms Are Arguments from Silence: When Acts describes household baptisms, there's no explicit mention of infants. The text indicates those baptized "heard the word" and believed.- Baptism Requires Understanding: Romans 6:3-5 shows baptism as a picture of death, burial, and resurrection with Christ - meaningful only for those who understand and trust in Jesus.- Covenant Signs Match Covenant Nature: Throughout Scripture, covenant signs directly relate to the covenant's nature. New Testament baptism signifies personal faith, not biological or familial membership.- New Covenant, New Requirements: Unlike Old Testament circumcision based on biological descent, New Covenant membership is based on personal faith, requiring different covenant signs.- Respectful Disagreement: It's possible to disagree with infant baptism while maintaining deep respect for those who practice it, including mentors and fellow believers.Scripture ReferencesColossians 2:11-12 - "In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead." - Spiritual circumcision, not infant baptism1 Peter 3:21 - "Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ." - Baptism as an appeal of faith, not infant cleansingRomans 6:3-5 - "Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his." - Baptism requires understanding of Christ's death and resurrectionActs 10:44 - "While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word." - Those baptized in household baptisms were those who heard and believedRomans 2:28-29 - "For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter." - True circumcision is spiritual, not physicalHave a question you'd like answered? The scoffer says, "There are too many hypocrites in the church!" His Christian friend answers, "No, there's room for one more." It may be true that the critic is looking for an excuse not to believe in Jesus, but his criticism hits closer to the mark than we would like. Concern for the reputation of God and His Kingdom is one principle that can guide us in the "gray areas." Here's Jim in Romans 14. Peter's powerful testimony for Jesus led to his imprisonment. While faithfulness often encounters resistance, believers can find encouragement in sharing the sufferings of Christ and our global brethren. Despite being chained in prison, Peter experienced profound peace, sleeping soundly—a peace unlike any the world offers. The Lord intervened, sending an angel to awaken and free him. The Sermons on the Amount, Part 3 - You are God's Supervisor MESSAGE SUMMARY: This Sermon series assembles important Biblical references to all aspects of money and finances and their influence and impact on us; therefore,  helping us to apply these Scriptures to our lives today. The reason for this series is because money and possessions have captivated our culture. Jesus' “Parable of the Talents”, in Matthew 25:14-30, tells us a great deal about our responsibilities and accountability regarding the “talents” that God has given us – also, we are to supervise these “talents” that God has given us. We have been given different “talents” by God; and God will give us blessings based on how we supervised the “talents” which He has given us; however, God will punish us if our supervision is not acceptable to Him. Stewardship – we are God's Supervisors, which is an awesome responsibility. As God declared and challenged us in Genesis 1:26-27: “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.' So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.". Therefore, humankind is supervisor all that God, the Creator of the Universe, created. With this awesome responsibility of stewardship, God has given us some instructions in Scripture to help us in this responsibility: 1) God has entrusted us with those “talents” that He has given us and He provides the opportunity for more; 2) God expects us to use what He has given us and according to His will – involve God in the process; 3) God has provided for our needs and enjoyment but, also, God expects us to address the needs of others; 4) God expects us to work using our “talents”, skills, and gifts; 5) God expects us to abide with His principles regarding money – a) the first part of our “increase” is Holy and Sacred to God (God is owner), b) tithing (God owns all and the first 10 percent is returned to Him as the prophet Malachi tells us in Malachi 3:10: “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse {e.g., Church}, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.".). c) giving is Worship, and d) saving; and 6) God will hold us accountable. God has entrusted us with what He has given, and He has provided us with the opportunity for more. You cannot out give God; and God is always faithful. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. All God's children need principles! We've been studying Romans 14, and how we should handle legitimate differences of opinion on how we interface with the world. At this point we've left the land of laws and rigid rules. But does that mean we have no objective guideposts at all? Today Pastor Jim will show us some principles from this chapter that can serve as our compass. My principles might not be shared by someone else, but they can keep me from going off track. What if we're both right? Some people like things to be tidy. We like a neat workspace, an orderly flow of traffic, and a theology with no loose ends. We want right to be right and wrong to be wrong, always and for everybody. Well, God seems to have left some ambiguities just to challenge people like us. It's the carnivores vs. the vegetarians! The early Christians in Rome had a problem. Some wanted to honor God by abstaining from meat and enjoying holy days; others wanted to honor God by doing the reverse. Apparently there wasn't a king-like human authority in the church... in Rome... who could decide the matter for them. To this day similar disagreements continue to give Christians reasons to either judge each other, or accept our differences. Your child just asked you a question that made you freeze up. Whether it's about circumcision after Sunday school, what sex is, or something they read in the Bible, difficult questions from kids can catch Christian parents off guard. In this episode of Marked by Grace, Heath Lambert shares three essential principles for handling sensitive topics with children. Learn why YOU must be the primary source of answers, how to use Bible words confidently, and the art of giving age-appropriate responses without overwhelming little minds.Timestamps0:00 - Introduction: Handling difficult questions from little kids2:36 - Principle #1: YOU must be the source of answers4:50 - Principle #2: Use Bible words confidently6:44 - Principle #3: Be age-appropriate in your responses7:40 - Example: "What is sex?" - Simple, truthful answer8:18 - Example: Deuteronomy question from a first-graderKey Points-Be the Primary Source: Your children will get answers to their difficult questions somewhere. The question is: do you want them getting answers from you or from friends, the internet, or other unreliable sources?- Use Bible Words: If God uses certain words in Scripture, they're appropriate for your children. Don't feel nervous about using biblical language - circumcision, adultery, etc. - when explaining biblical concepts.- Age-Appropriate Responses: Don't give more detail than children actually want or need. Often a simple, truthful answer satisfies their curiosity without overwhelming them.- Create an Open Environment: Make it clear that no question is off-limits, even if it makes you uncomfortable. Children need to trust that parents are the best source for answers.- Start Simple: Begin with basic explanations and let children ask follow-up questions if they need more information. Don't build the whole "watch" when they just want to know the "time."- Biblical Foundation: Scripture equips us for every good work, including answering our children's questions. If kids are old enough to read the Bible, they're ready for Bible words. View this episode of Marked By Grace on teaching the Gospel to your children: https://youtu.be/hSlKeI3YHyI- Modern Challenges: Today's children face more complex questions earlier than previous generations due to increased exposure to mature content and technology.Scripture References2 Timothy 3:16-17 - "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." - Scripture equips us for answering children's questionsDeuteronomy 6:6-7 - "And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise." - Teaching God's word to childrenEphesians 6:4 - "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." - Parental responsibility for spiritual instructionHave a question you'd like answered?
