What if the breakthrough we've been waiting for isn't years away, but available right now? This powerful message challenges us to shift our understanding of God's timing from gradual processes to instantaneous miracles. We're invited to examine the biblical truth that many of God's most significant works happen in a moment—salvation, justification, becoming a new creation, receiving the Holy Spirit—all occur instantly. Guest Speaker Chris Hill brings us a message about becoming a closer, someone who refuses to merely get near a miracle but presses in to fully walk in the breakthrough, promotion, and promise God has placed in front of them. Drawing from Hannah, whose name means favor yet whose circumstances did not line up with her prophecy, we learn that closing requires mastering the art of showing up again and again, clearly communicating what we want instead of expecting others to read our hearts, and guarding whose voice we allow in during this season, because our miracle rests in the mouth of the man or woman of God assigned to us. Once the word comes we must fix our countenance and act as though the miracle is already ours, then get to work and worship while we work, trusting that God will give us closure over every business, contract, and relationship that has been left hanging over our lives. Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 8:1-13Big Idea: A maturing church lets love for the people of Christ govern its liberties in Christ Application:Are you one of the people of Christ?When you are exercising your Christian liberties, do you consider the consciences of others?Q1. It seems to me that one of the main concepts in Chapter 8 is moral taint, an indirect acquisition of guilt through association or support of an immoral act. There is a lot of debate right now about if/how we can become “tainted”. When do we cross the line? For example, attending an LGBTQ wedding? Attending a regular wedding of someone wrongly divorced? Using technology/medicine discovered through immoral means? Living on land or inheriting property gained through immoral means?Q2. The concept of conscience is interesting when I consider my personal experience. For example, I grew up in a church were no one raised there hands and I grew up in a house where alcohol was never consumed. As an adult, both of those things “feel” wrong/bad even though I intellectually know they aren't sinful. What does that mean for me? Where is the interplay between my conscience and my comfort? Q3. You alluded to the Spirit working through our conscience. How can we discern between our conscience and the Holy Spirit. Is this an important distinction?Q4. I have a question about today's passage. It's a bit adjacent to the main point and includes a very specific scenario, so I don't know if you want to include all of it in the podcast, but I'm very curious (and have been waiting this whole sermon series for us to get to chapter 8 so I can ask). I've heard it taught that the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15) took place after Paul wrote 1 Corinthians, so therefore the instructions for gentiles to abstain from meat sacrificed to idols overrides Paul's teaching here. The person who told me that said that therefore, Christians today should avoid anything that has origins in another religion, including seeing chiropractors, getting massages, doing yoga-based workouts, etc. I'm curious what your thoughts are on that. Prior to hearing this teaching, I would do “Christian yoga” workouts, which use yoga poses but incorporate prayer and Scripture meditations instead throughout. I saw that as a way of redeeming the healthy aspects of yoga without participating in the religious aspects, but ever since hearing this teaching, I stopped in case I was wrong.Q5. Thank you for the message this morning. I appreciated how clearly love dominating in the gray while still adhering to truth came through. I did want to highlight that 1 mile from our church is a Hindu temple. This is what Google had to say about attendance there: As of June 2026, approximately 4,700 people regularly visit the Hindu Temple of Dayton in Beavercreek, Ohio. The congregation has grown significantly from its early days of 150 to 200 families. [1, 2, 3] For those, nearly 5,000 people, food sacrificed to idols is a very real issue. I just thought it was important to highlight that, if there are brothers and sisters in our Body that face that specific issue in ways that are a normal part of the worldview in which they may have been raised. I faced this issue specifically as a missionary while living in Zambia and befriending my Hindu neighbors. This is an issue members of our Body could face if invited to a Hindu home for a meal. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this issue became a more “normal” problem/opportunity for us! Q6. In our sermon we talked about limiting our freedom out of love for a weaker brother. But how do we distinguish between genuinely laying down our rights out of love versus just conforming out of a fear of judgment? At what point does trying not to be a 'stumbling block' cross the line into people-pleasing or enabling legalism?Thank you for listening and sending in your questions. Christ displays His glory through the lives of those He saves.In 1 Timothy 1:12–20, Paul reflects on the mercy and grace of Jesus Christ that transformed him from a blasphemer, persecutor, and violent opponent of the church into an apostle of the gospel. His testimony reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God's saving grace.Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, and Paul's life stands as a living display of Christ's perfect patience and glorious mercy. In a world filled with competing voices, conflicting beliefs, and countless ideas about truth, Pastor Tommy Boring brings us back to the unchanging foundation of the Christian faith in this powerful sermon, “One Christ, One Gospel.” Preaching from 2 Corinthians, Pastor Tommy examines the Apostle Paul’s warning that believers must guard against having their minds corrupted from “the simplicity that is in Christ.” Just as the serpent deceived Eve through subtlety, the enemy still seeks to distract people from the only message that saves by promoting another gospel, another spirit, or another version of Jesus. Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 8:1-13Big Idea: A maturing church lets love for the people of Christ govern its liberties in Christ Application:Are you one of the people of Christ?When you are exercising your Christian liberties, do you consider the consciences of others?Q1. It seems to me that one of the main concepts in Chapter 8 is moral taint, an indirect acquisition of guilt through association or support of an immoral act. There is a lot of debate right now about if/how we can become “tainted”. When do we cross the line? For example, attending an LGBTQ wedding? Attending a regular wedding of someone wrongly divorced? Using technology/medicine discovered through immoral means? Living on land or inheriting property gained through immoral means?Q2. The concept of conscience is interesting when I consider my personal experience. For example, I grew up in a church were no one raised there hands and I grew up in a house where alcohol was never consumed. As an adult, both of those things “feel” wrong/bad even though I intellectually know they aren't sinful. What does that mean for me? Where is the interplay between my conscience and my comfort? Q3. You alluded to the Spirit working through our conscience. How can we discern between our conscience and the Holy Spirit. Is this an important distinction?Q4. I have a question about today's passage. It's a bit adjacent to the main point and includes a very specific scenario, so I don't know if you want to include all of it in the podcast, but I'm very curious (and have been waiting this whole sermon series for us to get to chapter 8 so I can ask). I've heard it taught that the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15) took place after Paul wrote 1 Corinthians, so therefore the instructions for gentiles to abstain from meat sacrificed to idols overrides Paul's teaching here. The person who told me that said that therefore, Christians today should avoid anything that has origins in another religion, including seeing chiropractors, getting massages, doing yoga-based workouts, etc. I'm curious what your thoughts are on that. Prior to hearing this teaching, I would do “Christian yoga” workouts, which use yoga poses but incorporate prayer and Scripture meditations instead throughout. I saw that as a way of redeeming the healthy aspects of yoga without participating in the religious aspects, but ever since hearing this teaching, I stopped in case I was wrong.Q5. Thank you for the message this morning. I appreciated how clearly love dominating in the gray while still adhering to truth came through. I did want to highlight that 1 mile from our church is a Hindu temple. This is what Google had to say about attendance there: As of June 2026, approximately 4,700 people regularly visit the Hindu Temple of Dayton in Beavercreek, Ohio. The congregation has grown significantly from its early days of 150 to 200 families. [1, 2, 3] For those, nearly 5,000 people, food sacrificed to idols is a very real issue. I just thought it was important to highlight that, if there are brothers and sisters in our Body that face that specific issue in ways that are a normal part of the worldview in which they may have been raised. I faced this issue specifically as a missionary while living in Zambia and befriending my Hindu neighbors. This is an issue members of our Body could face if invited to a Hindu home for a meal. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this issue became a more “normal” problem/opportunity for us! Q6. In our sermon we talked about limiting our freedom out of love for a weaker brother. But how do we distinguish between genuinely laying down our rights out of love versus just conforming out of a fear of judgment? At what point does trying not to be a 'stumbling block' cross the line into people-pleasing or enabling legalism?Thank you for listening and sending in your questions. False teachers are dangerous because they lead people away from the truth.In 1 Timothy 1:3–11, Paul charges Timothy to confront false teachers and protect the church from doctrines that lead people away from the gospel. While false teaching produces confusion, speculation, and empty discussion, God's truth produces love that flows from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.The law was never given to save sinners but to reveal our sin and point us to the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. The church must remain anchored in sound doctrine because only God's truth gives life.As you watch, consider:• Am I rooted in the truth of God's Word?• Do I know the gospel well enough to recognize false teaching?• Is my life producing the fruit of a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith?• Am I committed to defending biblical truth with both conviction and love?• Is Christ and His gospel the foundation of everything I believe?

Earlier this month, Jackie found herself at the center of a Threads post that generated a whole lot of conversation. It got her and Preston thinking about the opposition we face as Christians because of a worldview that is confusing to unbelievers. NOTE: For most of us, the persecution we face is social in nature – that's different from persecution others face around the world when they risk their lives professing Christ. As Christians, we're not supposed to defend ourselves. We're supposed to preach the gospel and leverage opposition as an opportunity to point others to Jesus. Jackie and Preston discuss a helpful framework for approaching unbelievers, why it's important to lead with compassion, and the reason why both prayer and patience are required for those conversations.
