Join MGS to talk about films, games, news, and reviews.
This week, we're reviewing the new DMC anime on Netflix, created by Adi Shankar. We also read more bad reviews for restaurants in small towns in Canada. We'll probably be doing that a lot.
This week, we're taking a look at our Video Games Fantasy Draft as we approach the midway point of 2025, and talk a bit more about Dallin's trip to Vancouver Island.
This week we're talking about the original DMC animated series, a short, in-canon series that takes place between the first and second Devil May Cry games.
In this episode, we begin our new sub-podcast, Portable Ops, focused entirely on the PlayStation Portable and its incredible lineup of games. This week, we discuss several titles, including Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast, Silent Hill: Origins, Test Drive: Unlimited, and play a few rounds of Buzz: Master Quiz.
This week, we're talking about our time playing the original Devil May Cry, a new experience for both of us, before we dive into the two animated DMC series over the next few weeks. We also talk about the video How to Get Back Into a Game, According to Science, by Mark Maxwell, which discusses psychological tips to help you feel more fulfilled by the games that you play.
This week we're taking a look at what we've been playing and watching during the first few months of 2025, including discussions about Assassin's Creed Shadows, Korok hunting in Breath of the Wild, and watching The Thing and The Ring.
This week, we're discussing the long-delayed, frequently-cursed, and ultimately underwhelming adaptation of Uzumaki, Junji Ito's cosmic/body horror masterpiece. Recommended viewing: How Media Scares Us: The Work of Junji Ito
This week, we're discussing Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, an animated series released late in 2024, animated by the same studio that did both Castlevania series, and starring Hayley Atwell and Richard Armitage.
This week, we're back to the core of the Video Game Cinematic Universe with Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
We are so back. This week we watch, review, and rank the second season of Castlevania: Nocturne alongside other video game-to-TV adaptations. If you haven't watched it yet, please do, so we get a third season.
Let's watch the newest trailer for Death Stranding 2!
Just when we thought we were out, a brand-new documentary about George A. Romero's ill-fated adaptation of Resident Evil drops right into our laps. We end this chapter of MGS (and our lives) by looking at what could have been and, and by discussing the book Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, by Alex Aniel. See you in October 2026, Resident Evil! The wait won't be long enough.
We both failed the Fantasy Draft challenge in 2024, so as punishment, we're playing Puppet Combo's 2018 game, Nun Massacre on this special video episode. This video is also available on YouTube if you prefer to watch along on there: https://youtu.be/eKayXWNk5VE
Well, here we are. We made it to the end of the Resident Evil series. What lessons have we learned from made-up character Alice, or from other favourites like Chris and His Clothes, Jill and Her Wig, or Ron Davis is Arrested for Insider Trading? Maybe the lesson is to just stop trying to adapt Resident Evil and let the games be great on their own.
This week we review and recap the final (for now?) film in the animated Resident Evil series, Death Island. The whole gang is here finally, for better or worse, but it's mostly just the same movie as the previous entries.
This week, we finish our review of the really stupid and really bad 2022 Netflix adaptation of Resident Evil.
This week we return to the realm of TV adaptations of Resident Evil and, bad news everyone, this one blows. So let's talk about Netflix's Resident Evil over two hour-long episodes.
This week, we turn to the realm of television to continue our Resident Evil review series with Infinite Darkness, a strange little Netflix mini-series that doesn't really fit in with any of the other Resident Evil content.
This week, we're watching and reviewing Resident Evil Vendetta, the next entry in the animated Resi film series. It's absurd.
We begin 2025 the way that we begin every year: by making predictions about the things that will happen, and completing the Video Game Fantasy Draft.
This week, we finish our 2024 year in review by talking about our favourite games, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Astro Bot, Silent Hill 2, and more. If you're curious and interested in learning more about MyHouse.wad, please watch this incredible video by Power Pak, which will take you through experiencing the map for the first time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wAo54DHDY0
This week, we begin our 2024 wrap-up by talking about our favourite movies from the year, including new films and ones that we watched for the first time. Dallin defends the new Lord of the Rings animated movie, THe War of the Rohirrim, and Scott tells about his time spent playing Rocksteady's Suicide Squad over the holidays. Next week, we'll be back to talk about our favourite games of 2024!
This week, Alice (made up character) is back on her ol' crusade to take down Umbrella Corporation (just in one building), but once again, she doesn't really do a whole lot (nothing).
This week, we review the second animated film in the Resident Evil series, Damnation. This, by far, is the truest adaptation of Resident Evil so far.
This week, we continue our Resident Evil review series with Afterlife, which is pretty bad. One Google user so eloquently stated, "Anyone who thought that this movie was good should probably remove themselves from the gene pool."
This week we play and review Okage: Shadow King, a strange little JRPG from 2001 that never made its way to PAL regions until 2016. It is currently available on PS4 and PS5 as part of PS Plus Premium.
This week we watch and review the first of the animated Resident Evil films, Resident Evil: Degeneration.
This week, we continue with our review of the entire Resident Evil movie series with the third film, Resident Evil: Extinction. Next week, we will move on to the first of the animated movies, Resident Evil: Degeneration. Listen to Dallin's new album, Midnight Echoes, on the following platforms: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/1t2chVKuSvAc0SLFETyq3w Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/album/explorers-1999-version-single/1778833642?uo=4
This week, we return to Raccoon City to begin our full review of every Resident Evil movie, live-action and animated. If you want to go back to get our opinions on Resident Evil (2002) and Welcome to Raccoon City (2021), you can scroll down to the following episodes: Episode 142 - Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) Episode 89 - The Video Game Cinematic Universe in Review - Resident Evil (2002)
In this special episode, we officially establish the Shite 80s Movies for Children Cinematic Universe (which includes the previously ranked and reviewed Short Circuit movies) by talking about 1985's Explorers, starring River Phoenix and Ethan Hawke. Next week, we'll be moving on to watch, rank, and review every film in the Resident Evil movie series, including the animated films. We've already watched and recapped two of those, so if you want to go back and listen to our thoughts on those ahead of next week's episode (Resident Evil: Apocalypse), you can scroll down to the following episodes: Episode 142 - Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) Episode 89 - The Video Game Cinematic Universe in Review - Resident Evil (2002)
This week, we're talking about a couple of games we've played in the last few months, including The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and The Plucky Squire.
We return once again to the Disney Parks Cinematic Universe, our series in which we rank and review every film based on a Disney Parks attraction. This week, we review the 1996 British family adventure comedy The Wind in the Willows, which, by technicality only, makes it into the DPCU due to being marketed as Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in the United States.
This week, we play and talk about Mr. Mosquito, a strange little game that often makes people feel a bit uncomfortable.
This is a movie that exists, and it's based on Monster Hunter, so we watched it. There's not much else to say, really.
Let's talk about Astro Bot.
This week we're taking a look at the highs (there are none) and lows (there are so many) of Crash Twinsanity.
We're back this week with more Video Game Cinematic Universe clean up, where we go back to watch film adaptations that we previously missed. Next up is Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
...and it deserves to have lost 100 million dollars. It should have lost more. There's no reason for a modern-day video game film adaptation to be in such a state. Anyways. Happy 200 episodes! Thanks so much for joining us. Here's to many more.
We've returned to the Video Game Cinematic Universe! In this cleanup episode, we go back to a film that we missed, Dragon Quest: Your Story.
We've finally made it to the conclusion of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, for now. It's only been 7 weeks but it feels like a year. Anyways, this one's pretty bad.
Let's talk about the fourth film in the Pirates series, On Stranger Tides, and listen to Scott's opinion on the film deflate in real-time.
While Scott was on holiday, he watched about a million films, and Dallin watched his fair share as well, without a regularly scheduled franchise movie to recap and review. And so we review all of them; 21 films in two hours. We've got a mix of old and new, classics and shiters, and a fair bit of horror.
In this brief bonus episode, we talk about Alien Romulus and what its a fantastic, worthy successor to the franchise.
This week, we review the PS2 version of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, which incorporates story elements of the second and third Pirates films, and isn't very good.
This week, we're talking about Scott's recent travels to Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Finland, as well as our thoughts on Deadpool and Wolverine.
This week, we're on to the epic conclusion of the original Pirates trilogy. It's a mess, but there's lots to love here.
This week, we're continuing on with the films in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Next up is Dead Man's Chest.
This week, as part of our Pirates of the Caribbean review series, we're talking about The Legend of Jack Sparrow, a weird little PS2 game released three years after Curse of the Black Pearl that kind of tells the story of that film, and kind of doesn't.
It's been three years since we watched Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, and ranked it as the pinnacle of the Disney Parks Cinematic Universe, with very little competition. Now, we revisit it as we prepare to rank, review, and recap all five Pirates films and two PS2 games.
It's time for the quarterly MGS games wrap-up, featuring a handful of fantastic indies and Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. 0:00 - Opening Chat, Deswitchptions 20:00 - MGS Indies Showcase (Little Kitty, Big City, Botany Manor, Harold Halibut, Planet of Lana, Tunic) 35:30 - Dredge 44:20 - Senua's Saga: Hellblade II 53:45 - Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree 59:00 - Fantasy Draft Update (not great)
Though we don't typically do sports on MGS, this special travel episode is all about football/soccer. In May, Dallin travelled to Vancouver to watch Vancouver Whitecaps FC host Inter Miami CF, with Lionel Messi as the headlining act. Except Messi was nowhere to be found, opting not to travel with the team for that game. Fortunately, Dallin also went to Atlanta for the opening match of the Copa América to watch Canada play defending champions Argentina, where he finally saw the footballing legend with his own eyes. 0:00 - Opening chat, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 9:40 - Troubles in Vancouver 35:45 - Travelling to Atlanta 53:00 - Copa América --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mgspodcast/message
