Through clay and courage, Laika Studios builds a hauntingly tender world where every grave hides a story and every outsider has a voice. It's eerie, heartfelt, and weirdly profound — like if The Sixth Sense had a Saturday morning cartoon phase.

The Omen (1976)The Sixth Sense (1999)Before I Wake (2016)

Just over a year after the runaway success of his previous effort, The Sixth Sense, Oscar-nominated writer/director M. Night Shyamalan decided to follow it up with this genuinely unique thriller which had decent reviews and solid box office but was considered a bit of a disappointment mainly because the story was not at all what many audiences expected. However over time, it developed enough of a following that the filmmaker evetually decided to make a proper sequel. This is the strange tale of David Dunn (Bruce Willis), a mild-mannered security officer who has just survived a horrific train crash. No one really understands why or how he was the ONLY survivor of an incident which resulted in the deaths of every one else on board, except......one eccentric comic book art collected/store owner named Elijah Price (Samuel) who might have a theory. Their lives become intertwined and what results is a genuinely original tale of good and evil. A dog vanishes chasing glowing red eyes in the darkness, couples are pursued at over 100 miles per hour by something with massive wings, and a terrified mother watches a gray humanoid creature shuffle onto her porch and peer through the windows—all in the same night that would mark the beginning of Point Pleasant's year of terror.Support our Halloween “Overcoming the Darkness” campaign to help people with depression: https://weirddarkness.com/HOPEIN THIS EPISODE: “I see dead people.” Today it's a meme seen in every corner of the internet. It began, however, as an incredible idea for a film - “The Sixth Sense” – and the reason the meme is so prevalent today, is because the film blew our minds with the unexpected twist ending forcing us to watch the film again. But what if your child were to truly tell you they were seeing dead people. Not imaginary friends, and not even the occasional monster in the closet… but actually seeing dead people. One woman in the UK is pondering that question with not one, but two children who are adamant they are seeing those who have already passed on. (My Children See Dead People) *** Steven Stayner was only seven years old when he was kidnapped and held for over seven years, being sexually molested by the man who grabbed him. But when another boy was brought in as the man's next victim, Steven turned from victim, to rescuer. (I Know My First Name is Steven) *** Stories of people in the past looking to the skies to see UFOs are becoming more and more common as we learn more of our history. But there was some very strange goings on in 1896 and 1897 with some flying contraptions, weird looking people, bizarre languages, and even a close encounter of the third kind. (America's Mystery Airships of 1896-97) *** From UFOs in 1896-97… to UFOs in 1966-67. But this time we add another element. Not only did a young man see a UFO, but the encounter appears to have taken him outside of time – and even changed his personality in the process! (Missing Time in 1966) *** In Blake Edward's 1965 classic comedy film, ‘The Great Race', the heroic Leslie and the despicable Professor Fate, engage in an epic automobile race from New York to Paris in the early 1900s. The film is actually based on a real race that took place in 1908 – and as hilarious as the ‘The Great Race' movie was, the actual race took stupidity to a whole new level. (The Great Race to Stupidity) *** As far as we know, it was the very first sighting of what we've come to know as The Mothman – and it was seen not by a single person or even a single couple – but by four people. Actually, “sighting” probably isn't the right word for it… as it ended up in a high-speed chase between the four people in one car, and Mothman giving chase. Do you see dead people? Spoiler alert - this creepy little kid sure does. This week on Rewind Rethink, we revisit the twisty classic that made M. Night Shyamalan a household name. Is The Sixth Sense as good as we remember, or has it become a total cringe fest?
Author, historian, and scholar of the occult Mitch Horowitz joins Jim to discuss his new book The Sixth Sense: Napoleon Hill's Ultimate Step to Success. In this wide-ranging conversation, Mitch explores the enduring idea that thought can shape reality. They discuss how thinkers like Napoleon Hill linked imagination, emotion, and willpower to real-world outcomes, and how modern neuroscience echo those same principles today. Mitch and Jim also touch on consciousness, perception, and the intersection between spirituality and science. Later in the episode, Mitch reflects on how understanding “green lights” in life can help us recognize when we're on the right path. Note: This conversation was recorded in August. Mitch Horowitz's book The Sixth Sense: Napoleon Hill's Ultimate Step to Success was released on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. The Sixth Sense was one of the biggest movies of the year, second only to The Phantom Menace. And since it's Halloween and Julia had never seen it before, we thought it was time to take a second look. A movie best remembered for its plot twist (and the meticulous build up to it), The Sixth Sense is nonetheless at its core a drama about grief. Once you know the ending, the experience of the movie changes. But is it still good? Does M. Night Shyamalan's breakthrough film deserve its status on the 1999 Mount Rushmore? For our second go-round on The Sixth Sense, John and Julia invited comedian, actor, and singer Sooz Kempner - who didn't understand the ending to The Sixth Sense when she saw it at the age of 14 - to talk plot twists, child actors, Bruce Willis, and jump scares. You can find Sooz on Bluesky @soozuk Her website is https://www.soozkempner.co.uk/

Join The Deep Dive (Life-changing teachings for spiritual mastery, guided sound journeys, and access to live community gatherings to share your most authentic self) https://iamemilioortiz.com/the-deep-d... In this powerful interview, Emilio Ortiz and Anne Tucker explore the activations and new energy transforming our planet and our lives. Anne channels angelic insights on the earth changes underway, describing how the Earth must crack open to allow light to enter and why humanity's role in witnessing this release is essential. Together they discuss the rise of self-awareness, the experience of loneliness in both humanity and the Earth, and how our thoughts and presence contribute to collective healing. This dialogue also reveals how we are moving beyond the karmic construct into a new earth shaped by unity, self-acceptance, and manifestation through presence. Anne describes the coming flash of light as a turning point that will awaken a higher octave of self, allowing us to co-create reality in alignment with our soul's truth. By embracing transformation, practicing self-love, and allowing what is, we become more dynamically open than ever before. Anne Tucker is healer & channel, supporting awakening souls on their journey through community, spiritual connection, and healing, so they can take advantage of this time of rapid growth and ascension. As a trance channel, Anne enters a meditative state where she connects to the Angelic realm and allows Angels to speak directly through her. She is a channel for Angelic guidance and healing frequencies that will prepare us and help to usher us through the planetary shift in consciousness. ___________________ Read Anne Tucker's book: What's Coming Next: A Channeled Guide to Navigating the Greatest Shift of our Time

MONSTER PARTY REVISITS THE ERA OF ROLLERBLADING, BEANIE BABIES, THE MACARENA… AND TERROR!!!! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD honor the last part of a decade that brought us so many seminal films. If you thought our previous '90s HORROR episode was “da bomb,” you're guaranteed to go nuclear when you hear… '90s HORROR VOL. 2!!! The 1990s were an exciting and innovative time for horror films, with the latter half of the decade boasting some downright game-changers. With THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, we saw the explosion of the found footage genre that is still popular to this day, and the Japanese showed us the dangers of sitting too close to the TV with RINGU! If that didn't change your horror movie game enough, David Fincher gave us the ultimate worst-case mystery box scenario in SEVEN, Wes Craven made horror meta with SCREAM, and M. Night Shyamalan peaked early with THE SIXTH SENSE. But we're not even close to this episode's EVENT HORIZON! We'll also look at a creepy ice cream vendor (aren't they all?), a castle freak, some self-improvement cannibals, a Rubik's Cube of death, an evil genie, Chucky's better half, a Hardrock Cafe for vampires, and so much more! Too bad all of it was lost in the devastation caused by Y2K. Joining us for this second dose of '90s chills is an award-winning friend of the show, and really, the only guest for this subject. He was the editor in chief of the legendary FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND magazine, the genius behind the blog, IT CAME FROM..., the writer/director/producer of the IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS longform documentary series, as well as the '80s sci-fi documentary IN SEARCH OF TOMORROW. His latest project is the shockingly episode appropriate mega doc, IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS: 1995-1999! Honestly, what were the odds?! Please welcome back the always scintillating… DAVID WEINER!! '90 HORROR LIVES! AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, TALK TO THE SEVERED HAND!
You probably didn't expect the bestselling author of “The Notebook” and the acclaimed director of “The Sixth Sense” to start working together, but you'll be glad that they did. Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan have collaborated on a supernatural love story that's being released as a novel first, followed by a movie next year. It's called “Remain” and it follows a grieving architect who moves to Cape Cod and meets a mysterious woman. Nicholas joins Tom Power to talk about the book, his deep love for horror, and how he almost collaborated with Night on the movie adaptation of “The Notebook.”

Doors that don't open themselves often open our eyes. That's where Laura Wissiak journey began—watching visitors struggle with heavy museum doors in Vienna and realizing that access is the start of every user experience, not an afterthought. From there she taught herself UX, learned to code just enough to ship fixes, and found a voice by blogging through imposter syndrome. Along the way, she discovered that the accessibility community is bigger—and kinder—than it first appears, especially when we treat corrections as collaboration. We dive into the hard parts most teams avoid: why “replace the white cane” is the wrong goal, how social signaling matters for safety and dignity, and what happens when you build with blind users from day one. Laura walks us through Hope Tech's Sixth Sense, a sleek neck‑worn wearable that detects obstacles from head to knee and slightly beyond shoulder width—where low signs, open doors, and jutting branches lurk. With private haptic feedback, optional audio, and profiles tuned for crowded transit or open streets, Sixth Sense augments the cane's ground‑level strengths instead of competing with them. Style is part of accessibility too, so the device looks like premium headphones rather than medical gear, reducing stigma and blending into daily life.Beyond hardware, we talk about wayfinding, mental load, and why route planning for multi‑modal trips needs to be less exhausting. Laura shares candid lessons from co‑creation: users may cheer your intent while quietly rejecting your product, and that polite gap can sink a startup. The remedy is rigorous validation, lived experience inside the team, and a willingness to rebuild when the feedback you need contradicts the feedback you want. If you care about inclusive design, assistive technology, UX research, or accessible navigation, this conversation offers grounded insights you can apply today.Enjoy the episode? We explore Haley Joel Osment's powerful performance as a boy who “sees dead people,” Bruce Willis's understated turn, and how the film redefined modern ghost stories. Dana and Tom with returning guest, Frank Mandosa (Host of Reels of Cinema podcast, co-host of Movies across the Pod), discuss the Best Picture winner of 1980 - Ordinary People: directed by Robert Redford, written by Alvin Sargent, cinematography by John Bailey, music by Marvin Hamlisch, starring Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, Judd Hirsch, and Timothy Hutton.Plot Summary: Ordinary People is a powerful drama about a family torn apart by loss. The Jarretts seem like a perfect upper-class family, but the death of their oldest son, Buck, leaves deep scars. Conrad, the younger son (Timothy Hutton), struggles with guilt and depression, leading to a suicide attempt. With the help of psychiatrist Dr. Berger (Judd Hirsch), he slowly begins to face his painful emotions and heal.Conrad's father, Calvin (Donald Sutherland), wants to connect and support him, but his mother, Beth (Mary Tyler Moore), cannot show her feelings and insists on keeping up appearances. This emotional distance pushes Conrad away, creating tension in her and Calvin's marriage. Ultimately, the family must confront the truth that love and healing require honesty, not denial.Guest:Frank MandosaHost of Reels of Cinema podcast, co-host of Movies across the Podhttps://linktr.ee/reelsofcinema; www.frankmandosa.weebly.comPreviously on The Sixth Sense, Sunset Boulevard (1950) RevisitChapters:00:00 Introduction, Cast, and Background for Ordinary People04:02 Welcome Back Frank Mandosa06:43 Being Compared to Raging Bull and Mental Health in the 1980s19:35 Relationships with Ordinary People25:25 Are We in a Better Place with Mental Health Today?30:52 What is Ordinary People About?38:08 Plot Summary for Ordinary People39:17 Did You Know?46:15 First Break47:18 What's Up with Frank Mandosa48:18 The Cinema Legacy Poll Release #258:33 Best Performance(s)01:21:14 Best Scene(s)01:35:56 Second Break01:36:34 In Memoriam01:41:00 Best/Funniest Lines01:44:46 The Stanley Rubric - Legacy01:51:59 The Stanley Rubric - Impact/Significance01:59:52 The Stanley Rubric - Novelty02:02:27 The Stanley Rubric - Classicness02:08:53 The Stanley Rubric - Rewatchability02:14:16 The Stanley Rubric - Audience Score and Final Total02:16:00 Remaining Questions for Ordinary People02:21:24 Listener Questions02:33:12 Thank You to Frank and Remaining Thoughts02:37:19 CreditsYou can also find this episode in full video on YouTube. You can now follow us on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, or TikTok (@gmoatpodcast).For more on the episode, go to:
This week, we discuss The Sixth Sense (1999). Join us as we talk about religion, the afterlife, and New Kids on the Block.
1999 was a great year for movies. Almost too great. It didn't help that I found myself so busy with work that my focus on film couldn't be what it used to be. So while I am a big fan of “The Iron Giant,” I was also one of those people who didn't go to see it in the theater and contributed to its “flop” status. That summer was stacked with films like “The Sixth Sense” and “The Blair Witch Project,” and it was easy for something quieter and more thoughtful to get lost. While that is bad, the good news is that I was also one of the people who took to it on home video and picked it up on DVD as soon as it was available. I can still remember watching it for the first time at home and being floored by how much heart it had. I start the episode talking about my experiences with the film before moving onto the film itself. I discuss the people who made the film, its source material, other adaptations, the people who lent their voices to the film, its reception, music, and much more. It's worth noting that the director, Brad Bird, would later go on to make “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille,” which shows just how much talent was already on display in this debut. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. had no idea how to market the film at the time, which didn't help its chances at the box office. The Iron Giant has become a cult hit and is well loved, but it's not enough. A surprising number of people have never seen the film, and I think that's a shame. It's a thoughtful film, filled with wonder and spectacle, that will capture the imagination of kids and adults alike. Its story of fear, empathy, and the power of choice feels even more relevant today. So if you haven't seen it, prepare to fall in love with a giant robot.

The Thomas Crown Affair was the 31st-highest grossing movie of 1999, coming in one slot below another entry, Galaxy Quest, opening August 6th at number 3 at the box office behind the debut of the juggernaut The Sixth Sense at number one and Runaway Bride at number 2. The first of two 1999 film besides (besides The 13th Warrior, which we also recently discussed) from Die Hard director John McTiernan, The Thomas Crown Affair is a remake of the 1968 Steve McQueen-Faye Dunaway caper of the same name. Starring Pierce Brosnan in the title role - at the height of his Bond tenure - alongside Rene Russo, the film was praised for featuring two (very attractive) actors who were north of 40 and portraying them in an overtly sexy light, with particular ink spilled on how refreshing it was to see the then 45-year-old Russo presented as a femme fatale. The Thomas Crown Affair was pretty well received at the time, which is interesting because it has not, on a number of fronts, aged very well. What did people see in it at the time? And does it hold up at all today? John and Julia invited critic/writer/internet pioneer Sarah Bunting, the co-creator of Television Without Pity (among many other things) to take a trip down memory lane with us as we talk sex scenes in the 1990s, the importance of getting the right director, and what separates a "heist" from a "caper". Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a bunch of M Night Shyamalan movies. This episode we watched Unbreakable and next time we'll be back with Signs. Unbreakable is a movie I had basically never heard of, so that's fun. In a million years I couldn't have told you that M Night immediately followed up on the success of The Sixth Sense with another Bruce Willis movie. And it's a superhero movie. I think you could fairly call it the first modern superhero movie but I've got nothing to back that up with. I can tell you it really feels like a prototype for all the pre-iron man superhero movies of the 00s. Bruce Willis plays David Dunn, a security guard failing as a husband and a father who has to come to terms with the fact that he has superpowers, under the guidance of Samuel L Jackson's mysterious and wealthy character Elijah Price. Ever had a case where you just knew what was wrong before you even touched the patient - but if someone asked you HOW you know, you couldn't explain it? That almost mystical “sixth sense” we develop in practice - that's exactly what this episode is about. Our guest is Dr Annie Wayne - a criticalist, educator, and learning strategist—who's been exploring naturalistic decision making: the cognitive model that explains how experts think in real-time, and how to pass that intuition on.We talk about what separates expert intuition from novice reasoning, how to break down unconscious diagnostic processes, and how the right kind of mentorship can accelerate the path to expertise. Annie also shares her research on parenting and vet careers, challenging the stigma around pregnancy and parenthood during training. Here's what you'll learn:What “naturalistic decision making” really means (and why it feels like a sixth sense)How experienced vets spot subtle signs that others missHow to externalise your gut feeling so younger vets can learn from itReal-world strategies for mentorship and better clinical teachingHow to avoid the traps of lazy “shortcut” thinkingHow this framework builds confidence and reduces stress in new gradsAnnie's personal take on parenting through training—and how to smash the stigma around pregnancy in vet careersThis isn't just about clinical decision-making - it's about how we teach, how we lead, and how we support each other in a demanding profession.Lift your clinical game with our RACE approved clinical podcasts at vvn.supercast.com for more clinical confidence and better patient outcomes, or check out our Advanced Surgery Podcast at cutabove.supercast.com. She grew up knowing that in her family, strange senses were inherited – and to them, the unusual wasn't unusual at all. Her grandmother's premonitions were eerily accurate. Her mother could detect someone's arrival by scent alone — a rare psychic ability known as clairalience. Tara's own gift surfaced in vivid dreams, flashes of déjà vu that came true months later, and sudden bursts of knowledge she couldn't explain. Once, while standing in a grocery store line, a voice in her head urged a stranger to keep a specific lottery number — one that would be drawn days later. Was it a lucky guess… or proof that the future sometimes slips into the present? If you have a real ghost story or supernatural event to report, please write into our show or call 1-855-853-4802! This episode we watched the Sixth Sense and next time we'll be back with Unbreakable. The Sixth Sense is so famous for it's twist ending that, as someone who had never seen it before, i think it's regrettably stopped being famous for being really good. It's really good! Thanks everyone for listening to all of Media Club Plus's inaugural season! And a special thank you to everyone who wrote in questions. I'm happy to say it's not truly over yet, as we have at least TWO if not three more season 1 bonus episodes to do, including the extremely late next part of our Dragon Ball Z coverage. We also all owe it to Sylvi to watch Phantom Rouge. This is not even to mention eventually returning in some form for some HxH manga episodes. No promises, but... I think we all would like to do at least SOMETHING. I really hope everyone will stick around for our M Night season before we transition into our next big thing. We've already recorded several episodes and I'm having a lot of fun as the know-nothing guy. Sorry this one is late! I had a crazy week and then I was sick for a bit. Synopsis The Others stars Nicole Kidman and her two children finding herself trapped in a bizarre and perplexing marriage to Tom Cruise. Oh wait, that's just her real life at the time. In The Others she plays Grace a widow in post WWII Jersey living in a mansion with her two photosensitive children Anne and Nicolas. When three workers show up on her doorstep, she hires them as servants to help take care of the children and the estate to replace her previous staff that recently walked off the job. Soon after they are hired strange occurrences start happening and unexplained sounds start emanating from empty rooms. Could it be ghosts? Are her children messing with her? Are the servants trying to drive her mad? Are scientologists trying to silence her? You'll have to watch the whole twisty turny movie to find out. Review of The Others Drawing heavy inspiration from the Turn of the Screw, this is a really well constructed supernatural film that has more than one trick up it's sleeve for the audience. Nicole Kidman's performance and the up tied and high strung Grace is what ties all the tension together. The haunted house genre is well trod territory, and this film explores all of the tropes associated with it adeptly and convincingly. It's well paced, doling out little clues about the multiple mysteries surrounding the characters, their motivations, and the occurrences in the house. There's enough revelations and twists and turns that it really does string the audience along until the last 15 mins or so before everything is revealed. This is my second full viewing since I watched it in the theater in 2001, and it's one of those films that is as enjoyable the second time if you know the ending. I don't remember being blown away at the time, since it felt like it was riding off the coattails of the surprise blockbuster The Sixth Sense released two years earlier. However now, I can recognize the masterful craftsmanship of Alejandro Amenábar's script and direction. It's an exceptional example of gothic horror, exploring the darker aspects of life and death, maintaining an oppressive and claustrophobic atmosphere, and leaning heavily on suspense and mystery. Score 10/10
