Earlier this year, Chinese publisher Tencent revealed a new project so shameless that it belies belief. It's called Light of Motiram, and it's no exaggeration to say that it's a pound-for-pound carbon copy of PlayStation's vaunted Horizon franchise. It crossed the line to such an extent that Sony is suing Tencent over it, packing fascinating evidence that this title was likely intended to be Horizon all along. Is Tencent dead-to-rights? Other news this week includes likely massive overreaction to PlayStation's hiring of a cross-platform manager, updates on Amazon's God of War TV project, Xbox's dominance of PS5 sales chart with rumors of more to come, Warner Bros. dipping its toes back in the games-as-a-service space, fresh PS+ offerings, and more. To round things out, we then go to listener inquiries, as always. Is the original Metal Gear Solid overrated? What's happening with Insomniac's Wolverine project? Have payment processors gone too far in seemingly bullying the likes of Steam? Will Colin ever understand that Bob Dylan is still alive? In today's Daily Fix:Looks like there's still some bad blood between gaming auteur Hideo Kojima and his former employers at Konami. In an interview with Ssense, Kojima was asked if he was going to play the upcoming remake of his Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, titled Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater. He replied, "No." Kojima and Konami had a falling out during the development of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which saw the famed developer leave to form his own studio, which has released two Death Stranding games. In other news, Hollow Knight still does not have an official release date, despite a Nintendo Partner Direct happening, which would have been a good opportunity to make the announcement. And finally, in the same Direct, a new Octopath Traveler was announced for all current-gen consoles.

Een andere vraag betreft de titel Ready or Not.

Eerste spelen, game zuigt, tweede keer, GOTY?

Nerd Culture - A Gamekings Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 29, 2025 94:25

Director Fumeto Ueda has been hailed by many as somewhat of an auteur of the gaming landscape. A creative whose style embraces minimalist desolation. Known best for his work on Shadow of the Colossus, Ueda's directorial debut took place in 2001 with Ico, a boy-meets-girl action-adventure released for the PlayStation 2. Born with horns in a small village, Ico was seen as a great misfortune and was locked away in an eerie castle across the sea. Just as Ico settled in to his stony tomb, an earthquake strikes, freeing him and beginning the long journey to freedom. Along the way Ico meets Yorda, the daughter of the evil shadowy queen who rules over the land and the two work together to escape. While the premise was simple the game was considered by many to be a success, and has been cited by many prominent directors as an influence in their games. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Uncharted, Dark Souls, The Legend of Zelda, Metal Gear Solid 3, you name it, Ico as certainly left its mark on the world. But is it still fun to play today? On this episode, we discuss:Puzzle Solving.Ico often presents the player with simple diagetic puzzles that make use of the environment.Unlike many other games, it makes almost no attempt to guide the player. Is this too harsh, or is the lack of handholding refreshing in the moden era?Combat.Despite its claim to fame, Ico's combat has very little going for it.What exactly makes it so unsatisfying and could it be improved?Yorda. An enscort quest that lasts an entire game would surely raise eyebrows if released today.Did the team at Sony Computer Entertainment manage to bring Yorda to life?Or is she simply a frustrating Key for the player to drag about the gameworld? We answer these questions and many more on the 131st episode of the Retro Spectives Podcast!--Intro Music: KieLoBot - Tanzen KOutro Music: Rockit Maxx - One point to anotherIco OST: Michiru Oshima--Is Ico worth playing in the year 2025 and beyond? Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Nintendo Switch, Fez, Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya, Cara Ellison, Downwell, Wii, Crystal Dynamics, Super Meatboy, Metroid, Nifflas, Knytt, n/n+/n++, Pixeljunk (series), Q-Games, Dylan Cuthbert, World of Warcraft, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, Halo 2, Half-Life 2, The Sims 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Doom 3, Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal, Silent Hill 4: The Room, GTA: San Andreas, Far Cry, Metroid: Zero Mission, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, Knights of the Old Republic 2, Star Wars: Battlefront, Pikmin 2, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Jak 3, Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, Katamari Damacy, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Republic Commando, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, WiiWare/DSi, PS Vita, Net Yaroze, Nicalis, Castlevania, MegaMan, CapCom, Bionic Commando, Sega, Sonic (series), Square Enix, Zelda (series), Final Fantasy IX, Dark Souls (series), The Seven Samurai, Firewatch, Animal Well, Spelunky (series), Hollow Knight, Gone Home, Ashton Herrmann, Last of Us, Shadow of the Colossus, Shakespeare, Outer Wilds, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia.  Next time: Finish Cave Story Twitch Discord DevGameClub@gmail.com
