Josh and Deb are back with Cobweb and Cantu for a wild ride of horror talk and laughs. We kick things off with a quick dive into the latest Conjuring film before turning our attention to the Sony movie Until Dawn. Of course, things can't stay too serious for long—especially when Cobweb becomes the target of some good-natured ribbing (pun intended) about “erroneous rib tips” and “burnt ends.”

We're back for the 3rd instalment of the season, diving into the often cursed realm of video game movies. This week, we're dissecting the very recent movie adaptation of the cult classic interactive horror game, Until Dawn (2025). Will this adaptation keep you awake Until Dawn, or will you be begging for bedtime? The film, directed by David F. A few months back, Rian Johnson said he hopes the next Knives Out movie is in theaters for as long as possible. Netflix released that number this week and it probably is not what Johnson was hoping for. The Long Walk comes out this month and they have a real cool marketing idea. It is too bad that it is a little too much for public consumption.Your Host has one of those guilty pleasure premises that is impossible to resist. Four friends go to sleep (not by choice) and wake up to find themselves chained to a wall. A mysterious person stands in front of them and lets them know they are about to play a game for their lives. What follows is a series of deadly challenges in which it becomes clear there can only be one winner. There is not much more to it than that. It gets gory, eyes get stabbed, people die. And then after about an hour of this, Your Host decides it is time to deliver a message. And it is not just any old statement. They tackle one of the biggies. It is one of the clumsiest and most confusing things we have seen this year.Until Dawn is an awesome video game. It is scary, engaging, and most importantly, fun. We have been interested in seeing the adaptation. And unlike a lot of other gamers, we were not turned away from the fact it tells an original story. If anything, that makes it even more attractive. When we say “original story”, we do not mean it does things never done before. As a matter of fact, one of the things Until Dawn does is play with familiar horror tropes. It is a mixed bag that does a lot more right than wrong. Great kills, but not the best writing, for example. The end result is a flawed movie that is a lot of fun. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. In 1995, Roberta Williams trades fairy tales for fear with Phantasmagoria, a seven-disc FMV horror epic that looks like a movie and plays like an adventure. We talk about how Sierra built a real film studio, shot actors on bluescreen, and composited them into 1,000+ CG backdrops to create its eerie mansion setting. We also dig into the controversy: graphic gore, mature themes, and a notorious assault scene that led to bans and retailer pushback. While sales soared, critics questioned whether this “interactive movie” had enough interactivity. From there, we explore the sequel, Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh, a stranger and edgier chapter with a cult following. Finally, we look at how its DNA carried into horror's future, influencing Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Until Dawn. Dim the lights and join us as we revisit this chilling chapter of gaming history on Memory Card Lane. Find out more at https://a-trip-down-memory-card-lane.pinecast.co

August 11th marks eleven years since the world lost Robin Williams, and the possibility of more performances in the future. But the legacy he left is a rich and diverse one. We do our best to touch on as much as we can, touching on all the fan favorites and also many underappreciated gems that time seems to have lost. We discuss his unique comedy, his knack for drama, and his very convincing villain run. And yes, Jake has finally watched Death to Smoochy. We watched a lot of new Robin Williams movies, but before that, Dustin shares spoiler-free first impressions of Fantastic Four: First Steps and Final Destination: Bloodlines. Jake gives a summary of two shows: Your Friends & Neighbors and Untamed. Then we both watched Until Dawn and of course Happy Gilmore 2.Have thoughts about the episode? Share your lol moments of the episodeLet's talk about time loops, spontaneous combustion, and underground tunnels, baby! This week, we're recapping the new movie, Until Dawn, based (very loosely) off of the Playstation game of the same name. While there are MANY mixed reviews of this movie, most often comparing it to the game, this movie is a ton of fun. Sometimes you need to separate the original concept with the adaptation to appreciate it. While this movie has, quite literally, nothing to do with the videogame, this is still a decent movie and is a blast.Recap starts ~ 29:00Socials:Follow us on Instagram, TikTok and Threads @scaredybratspod

Nintendo is back in the conversation with a banger of a game with Donkey Kong Bananza. Exclusive to the Switch 2, Donkey Kong Bananza is one of the best platformers probably ever featuring fully destructible environments and dopamine hits with every smash of a rock you do. With Pauline by your side, venture down into Earth the planet's core through a variety of sublayers that represent different types of terrains and styles. It's a dense game with a ton of fun, charming characters, incredible tech and great music.Jason also surprises us by picking up Death Stranding 2. Not only did he pick it up, he's clocked in over 45 hours so this is a more in-depth review from Jason digging into why Death Stranding 2 has quickly become one of his favorite games of the year. Brett plays Mecha Break which is a mech game with hero shooter style mechanics. It's free to play and you pilot a mech in 6v6 or 3v3 objective style missions or dive into a 3 player game in an extraction mode. The game looked ok but is suprisingly a ton of fun. The question...can it keep us engaged long term?Austin dives into Atomfall that released earlier this year. With the hopes that it would bring back the feelings of Skyrim and Fallout, it unfortunately did not meet the standards Austin hoped for. It's a beautiful game but doesn't give the carrot on the stick he's looking for to keep exploring.Lastly, we have our review of the video game adaptation Until Dawn. Now a movie, it's set in the universe but follows a new story with the same premise. Is it as good or better than the game? Listen to find out! Riffin with Griffin is back, and I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the Thunderbolts movie. I absolutely loved it! I have a feeling Marvel might be making a comeback, and there’s this horror movie called ‘Until Dawn’ that’s got me curious. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet, but I’ll keep you posted. The Shannon’s situation is getting more challenging, and the NBA playoffs are absolutely incredible! I’m fully immersed in the action! Plus more news, notes, and entertainment from around the world. While the Xbox console brand continues to wane, Microsoft's wise pivot to third party publishing is already paying dividends. According to recent financial reports, Xbox is now PlayStation's single biggest publishing partner, dominating PSN's very own pre-order and pre-load charts on the backs of Forza Horizon 5, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Doom: The Dark Ages, not to mention strong performance across its brands, from Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty to Mojang's Minecraft and beyond. It's weird, to be sure, but predictable, too: These one-time rivals are now intrinsically linked, with both sides benefiting mightily from this new normal. With Halo, Gears, Fable, and virtually everything else Xbox-related no doubt en route to PlayStation 5 as we move forward, how deep and fruitful can this new, unusual relationship become? Plus: Long-in-development China Hero Project darling Lost Soul Aside gets delayed, Borderlands 4 experiences the extremely rare move-up in release date, Electronic Arts lays off hundreds and cancels projects at Respawn, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Is it high-time for Sony to explore asymmetrical sticks for its controllers? Does PC gaming represent an existential threat to the console space? Should Sony tap Chinese mega-studio Virtuos to revive its old IP?
