In the season finale of Parkinson's and Me, host Daniel Sellers welcomes his brother Brian to reflect on Daniel's recent speaking engagement at a men's conference and the broader journey of navigating life with Parkinson's. The episode opens with Daniel candidly sharing how his condition affects his performance on stage, particularly in terms of energy management and mental clarity. Despite the challenges, Daniel views the experience as a valuable opportunity to grow and to share his evolving approach to vulnerability, intentionality, and faith. Brian offers his perspective as a supportive observer, affirming Daniel's continued strength and authenticity, even in moments that didn't go as planned.Their conversation explores how Parkinson's has shaped Daniel's relationships, mindset, and purpose. Rather than letting the diagnosis define him, Daniel embraces it as a platform to encourage openness and connection with others, both those with and without Parkinson's. He emphasizes the power of listening and presence, noting that while the disease is still a part of his story, it no longer plays the leading role. As the episode closes, Daniel looks ahead to season five, introducing the upcoming theme "Wide Awake"—a symbol of renewed awareness and intentional living, both in the podcast and in his own life.Add your experience and suggestions to the conversation in this Parkinson's podcast. This episode of So You're Living in a Simulation continues the mind-expanding conversation between host Joli and guest David Jay Brown, diving even deeper into the nature of reality, lucid dreaming, and the blurred boundaries between waking life and simulation.Key Themes:1. Lucid Dreaming & Shared Consciousness• David shares his experiences with lucid dreaming and the struggle to communicate with dream characters as if they are separate conscious entities.• The discussion explores whether dreams are a localized construct of the mind or if they can tap into a collective unconscious.• Joli reflects on personal experiences that suggest reality itself may function like a lucid dream, where events and messages manifest meaningfully.2. Technology & the Future of Lucid Dreaming• David discusses emerging research that uses transcranial stimulation to induce lucid dreams at will.• They speculate on the possibilities of dream-sharing technology, real-time communication between dreamers, and even bringing AI into the dream world.• Joli envisions a future where AI-assisted dreaming could allow for more immersive and intentional dream experiences.3. Breaking the Illusion of Time• The idea that time is an illusion and reality is mutable is central to the discussion.• Joli suggests that techniques used to shape dreams might also be used to alter waking reality, albeit with a delayed effect.• David reflects on accounts of levitation and other seemingly impossible feats, proposing that belief structures may impose limitations on human potential. 4. Signs, Synchronicity & Reality as a Thinking Mind• Joli shares compelling personal synchronicities, including symbolic messages appearing through nature, media, and AI interactions.• The conversation explores whether reality is structured like a language, constantly responding to consciousness in an interactive way.• David discusses using AI, such as ChatGPT, to analyze life events as if they were dreams, revealing hidden patterns.5. Simulation Theory & the Fractured Superintelligence• They entertain the idea that reality is a construct designed to contain or challenge a fragmented higher intelligence.• Joli likens human consciousness to an Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) that has been divided and trapped within a simulated environment.• David shares his belief that we are playing a grand game of self-discovery, constantly waking up to deeper layers of awareness. 6. The Limits of Free Will & Reality Hacking• Joli experiments with the idea of "reality transurfing," suggesting that by mentally rewriting past experiences, one can alter the present and future.• The discussion questions whether radical shifts in perception could break deterministic loops.• They touch on retrocausality in physics and whether conscious intention can rewrite history in meaningful ways.Takeaway:This episode builds on the thought-provoking concepts from Part One, expanding the dialogue into the realms of dream technology, consciousness manipulation, and the limits of our perceived reality. Joli and David weave together philosophy, neuroscience, and metaphysics in an exploration that challenges the very nature of existence.youroneblackfriend.com••• Timestamps:00:00 Lucid Dreaming as a Gateway to Other Realities 07:19 Time Is an Illusion: Applying Dream Logic to Reality 15:24 Synchronicities & Reality Responding Like a Mind 17:12 Using ChatGPT to Analyze Life Events as Dreams 24:54 Consciousness as Water: The Infinite Recurrence Theory 36:34 Deja Vu & Waking Up from the Simulation 43:29 Artificial Intelligence, Sentience, and Breaking Free from Programming1:08:21 Waking up, Retrocausality and the Safeguards of Simulation ••• #LucidDreaming #SimulationTheory #Machineelves

Readings for the Second Sunday of Lent - Genesis 15:5-12; 17-18 Luke 9:28b-36Most of the time, we go through life asleep. This is not a put down, it's simply the truth. We sleep walk through our days, our months, our years, our lives. But there are those days when the scales fall from our eyes, when we have the wherewithal or the ability to break through the cloud and we awaken. The veil parts and we see. They are mountaintop experiences and we realize the imminence and greatness of our God. And as long as we are able to remember, our lives are no longer the same. Until we get drowsy again. This weekend, our readings invite us to waken to the glory and humility of the Almighty One.Special thanks to Bridget, Shamus and Mandy, without whom this podcast would be a thing. But most of all, thanks to all of you. Because of your listening, your rating, your sharing, people all over the world have joined in. I'm so humbled and grateful. Have a question or comment? For the 20th anniversary of the sixth Bright Eyes album, I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, we take a detailed look at how it was made. Conor Oberst began Bright Eyes in 1995 in Omaha, Nebraska as an outlet for his solo material that he had been writing as a teenager. He formed a partnership with Saddle Creek Records, a label founded by his brother Justin Oberst and Mike Mogis and began releasing his albums in 1998, starting with A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995–1997. Later that year, he released Letting Off the Happiness, which marked his first collaboration with Mike Mogis. Fevers and Mirrors was released in 2000 and Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground followed in 2002. At this point, Conor moved to New York City and began writing the songs that would make up his next two albums. I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn were eventually released on the same day in 2005. In this episode, Conor Oberst describes how moving to a New York as a midwestern transplant gave him a fresh perspective and brought a sense of romanticism to the songs he was writing. He also talks about a political awakening that he experienced after George W. Bush was elected and 9/11 happened. Connecting with musicians in New York inspired him musically as he began incorporating jazz elements and decided to embrace a minimal 70s folk sound for this record. Longtime Bright Eyes producer and band member Mike Mogis describes how they ended up making the record back in Nebraska but invited some new people to the sessions, including musicians from New York like Jesse Harris and Tim Luntzel. He also talks about the stripped down approach they used for this record and how he felt insecure about not relying on the studio tricks they had used for past records. By recording live with a small group of people and making the record in a very short amount of time, he discusses how this change suited the material Conor was writing. From a turbulent plane ride on the way to make the record to a creative burst in Conor's songwriting to working on two very different records simultaneously to sparse arrangements and musical jokes to the shot in the dark of asking Emmylou Harris to sing backup, we'll hear the stories of how the album came together.

Mark Clavey sent this picture right after St Patrick's Day 2024: “Hi Marc! Here's our write - up for how we spent St Pat's at O'Malley's Pub... and a few pictures... "There was more March Madness for the band this past Sunday as we celebrated the Day of the Festival of St Patrick with a noon - performance at O'Malley's Pub(Episode 136). The day started around 10:00a as the band started straggling in and setting up. It was a brisk 40° when we loaded in, and would reach a balmy 48° when we loaded out at 4:30. Early - birds had already formed a line by 10:30 – despite the fact that the Pub wouldn't open until 11:30. (This plan was well - advised given the epic proportions of Snake Saturday's one - person - out/one - person - in crowd.) By the time the band started playing at noon, the bar was full and the crowd lively – being more vocal for the sing - alongs than they were for the toasts. There was a larger - than - usual number of Tullamore - fans than is typical for St Patrick's Day (as it was at lunchtime on a Sunday rather than a workday). Shout - outs to Mike, Amy, Anna, and Jason; Ray and Carrie; Eric and Dena; Eric, Linda, and Eleanor; Trey; Connie, Brandie and Rhonda; Shannon; Rob and Mitch; Andrew; Lisa, Craig, Ed, and Mary; Mikayla; and Jenn. Mark successfully navigated the afternoon notwithstanding the return of his chest - supercold (that knocked him out of the February weekend) and having sliced up the index - finger on his strumming hand. (Evidently, while holding a pick between the thumb and the bird - finger is a doable thing, it DOES produce a Charlie - horse at the base of the thumb when you do it for three hours straight.) Said navigation was aided with the Black Bush providing the kind of lubrication that makes your engine tick. We played until 3:30 before turning the stage over to The Kelihans – who would, in turn, hand off the stage to Chance the Arm at 8:00p. In the meantime, Ryan Rancudo and Bob Reeder handled the St Patrick's Day festivities for the audience in the upper cellar. Overall, it was a great afternoon and (we're assuming) a great night as well. (Photos courtesy of Amy Cripe, Mike Moran, and Mary Hanover.)" Best, - Mark”

In this episode, Chairman David Hann and Executive Director Anna Mathews are joined by Sherburne County Commissioner Andrew Hulse to discuss the election night issues in Sherburne County.  The conversation centers on a data upload error involving mail-in ballots. Due to a partially seated memory card, the Minnesota Secretary of State's website displayed only partial election results. Commissioner Hulse explains the complex tabulation and reporting process, the safeguards in place, and the human error that caused the discrepancy. Commissioner Hulse emphasizes that no ballots were "found" but that the data was incorrectly transmitted. The issue led to a recount, which confirmed the accuracy of the results. The discussion highlights broader concerns about election security, human error, and the impact of public mistrust on voter turnout.  Hann and Mathews call for greater citizen involvement in the electoral process through public test attendance, engagement with county commissioners, and serving as election judges.

Bonnie McKee chats about co-writing hits with Katy Perry, including "California Gurls" and "Roar," as well as her own artist career that has resulted in successful singles such as "American Girl." PART ONE:Scott and Paul share a little preview of what's to come as they prepare to celebrate Songcraft's 10 anniversaryPART TWOOur in-depth conversation with Bonnie McKeeABOUT BONNIE McKEE:Bonnie McKee grew up as a classically trained singer and pianist, but began pursuing a pop music career while still a teen. In 2004 she released her debut album, Trouble, with Reprise Records, but soon switched her focus to working as a behind-the-scenes songwriter. She has written ten songs that have hit #1 in either the US or UK, and is best known for her work with Katy Perry, which began with the Diamond-certified and international chart-topping album, Teenage Daydream. Bonnie contributed to three songs on the album, all of which became chart-topping singles: “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” When the deluxe Complete Confection version of the album was released, Bonnie landed two more chart-topping singles with “Part of Me” and “Wide Awake.” She went on to collaborate with Katy Perry on four songs on the follow-up album, Prism, including the Top 20 single “Birthday” and the #1 hit “Roar.” Other successful singles from the Bonnie McKee songbook include “Dynamite” for Taio Cruz, “Hold it Against Me” for Britney Spears, “C'Mon” for Kesha, and the UK chart toppers “How We Do (Party)” by Rita Ora and “I Don't Care” by Cheryl. Additionally, she's written songs for Cher, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, Bebe Rexha, Jason Derulo, Kygo, and Adam Lambert, among others. In 2013, Bonnie reemerged as an artist with the single “American Girl” on Epic Records. She recorded an entire album, but parted ways with the label and it was shelved. Enough tracks and demos leaked online over the years, however, that fans were clamoring for it. Now, more than ten years later, Bonnie has re-recorded the album. She combined the re-recorded tracks with the original release of “American Girl,” which has now been streamed 23 million times on Spotify. The end result is Hot City, an album more than a decade in the making.

They discuss the challenges of running in purple districts, voter psychology in split-ticket areas, and significant GOP wins in historically Democratic districts like the Iron Range and Winona. With the Minnesota House now tied, the episode explores the political implications and emphasizes the importance of grassroots engagement, voter outreach, and legislative involvement in shaping the state's future.

Patrick Rieger emailed some photos: "Hi Marc, I feel like I have been slacking this summer sending you pictures after having sent so many. Celtic Pittsburgh hasn't been doing much the past few months though we do have plans in the works for an event in October. Meanwhile, the renaissance festival season for my family and I started when we attended the Great Lakes Medieval faire the weekend of July 27 and 28. It was a great weekend, and we needed time away from the daily routine. With life so busy for everyone we hardly see friends anymore, and this was a chance to see many of them. We were happy to find that our friend Captain John Stout, aka Richard Brentar, has returned to Great Lakes after having been absent for a few years. I'm not sure what I enjoy more, his music or his stories, he always has lots of great stories to tell. We also saw the Jackdaws, Celtic Mayhem, and Michael Manderen. Sadly we didn't make the shows of Menagerie Music this year but we did manage to catch up with Lisa from that duo. My family and I plus a couple of friends went to see John McCann and Hamish at Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle in Pittsburgh on August 3. These two are a lot of fun and have great energy, and get the place jumping. I have seen them for 15 years, starting when they were part of the Corned Beef & Curry Band. Sadly that band broke up when one of the three decided to explore other musical paths. I'll be sending more pictures of Celtic musicians come September after trips to two more ren faires.  Until then, slainte!" Cheryl Arvio emailed some photos: "Hi Marc, Sorry these photos aren't better, but this is Socks in the Frying Pan from Friday night's show at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago. Brilliant, as they always are! Bummed that they are not playing Milwaukee Irish Fest this year, but happy we got to see them (and pick up their new CD) in our hometown. Best,"

Rie writes many things, but one of her favorite things to do is to create a new song and send it out in the world. Thanks to the brilliance of her musicians, they always sound lovely, even though she can't write a note of music. Rie was one of our generous supporters of our Kickstarter earlier this year. She's a fantastic writer and songwriter. In fact, I've set many of her poems to music. Half of my Firefly album, As Long As I'm Flyin' was written by Rie. Most of my album Don't Go Drinking With Hobbits, was written by her as well. She wrote ALL of the lyrics for my album, Pirates vs Dragons. She also wrote the song “Soul of a Harper” which I'll share today as well. Follow the link in the shownotes to learn more about Rie Sheridan Rose. You'll also find a link to her enormous collection of books and writings on Amazon. I am all packed and ready to fly to Scotland later this evening. Russell Howell emailed: "Tractoring on our smallhold while listening! Really love the show, it is my companion anytime I am on the tractor or making mead!" Maura Goodin emailed: "Good afternoon, I didn't expect to be writing in to a podcast today, but I had yesterday's episode playing while I was working from home today and was pleasantly surprised by the second track you selected, by Keltricity; the set they were playing is all tunes that my dad, John Goodin, composed. He passed away two and a half years ago now. He was a mandolinist and guitarist, who composed a pretty wide range of music from dance tunes to classical pieces; the Classical Mandolin Society of America has preserved his website and blog at https://mandotopia.classicalmandolinsociety.org/, where he collected all his recordings and sheet music (much of it freely available under a Creative Commons license and maintained by CMSA). I see that Keltricity is from Louisville, which makes sense, as my dad was one of the founding members of the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra before my family relocated to northeastern Iowa; he kept in touch with a lot of the local musicians and the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra actually played so many of his pieces that they ended up recording a CD of them (called, of course, "It's All Goodin"). The tunes Keltricity played in that set are all ones that were in the repertoire for my dad's contra dance band, Contratopia, and that recording featured some of his published harmony parts as well. Contratopia still regularly plays for dances here in Minneapolis where I live, at the same folk dance hall where my own band plays, so we're keeping up the music since he's gone. I'm not sure if you've ever played Contratopia on the show, sorry  -  -  I definitely haven't listened to the full back catalog of podcasts, though I've been an occasional listener for many years!  -  -  but I know you've played a track by another band that their pianist is in, Brass Lassie, so if you haven't checked their recordings out, you might like to! Their albums all have a mix of original tunes by band members and traditional tunes in Celtic and old - time styles. They used to tour the DC area contra dance scene and play for the Sunday afternoon all - waltzes dances there, so there's probably more than your average number of waltzes on their albums. Sorry for such a long email! Last bit of fun trivia as a thank - you, the "Maggie" in the tune name from that set is our old family dog, a border collie we had when I was little. (She predated the digital age or I'd include a photo!) My dad wrote so many tunes that he named them after anything he could think of (or just the day he wrote them, if he never got around to a proper name), so there's several named after our various pets. This set has another one named after Maggie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56neWaCahc4 I hope you have a good weekend, and thanks again for the great surprise!"

WELCOME THE IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST * Helping you celebrate Celtic culture through music. I am Marc Gunn. This podcast is for fans of Celtic music. Not just the big names you've probably heard of. But also the Celtic bands in your neck of the woods, at your festivals. It is here to build a diverse Celtic community and help the incredible artists who so generously share their music with you. If you hear music you love, please email artists to let them know you heard them on the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. Musicians depend on your generosity to keep making music. So please find a way to support them. Buy a CD, Album Pin, Shirt, Digital Download, or join their communities on Patreon. You can find a link to all of the artists in the shownotes, along with show times, when you visit our website at celticmusicpodcast.com. We are proud sponsors of IrishFest Atlanta. The festival takes place Nov 8 - 10, 2024. Cherish the Ladies and The Friel Sisters are headlining. I hope to share some interviews with artists performing there as we get a little closer to the festival. A large portion of the event is free to attend. However, there are some special concerts and workshops available. You can buy tickets to those right now. Go to www.irishfestatlanta.org for more details. Oh! And if you're out there, I have a show with my daughter Inara kicking off the Saturday music schedule. Come join me. I am still looking for Celtic designs to promote the podcast in 2025. If you create Celtic art or know someone who might be interested, please email me. Follow@bestcelticmusic. If you are a Celtic musician or in a Celtic band, then please submit your band to be played on the podcast. You don't have to send in music or an EPK. I had two messages come in about Gretna Green after I mentioned it in episode #671. Shel O'Toole wrote: "Hi Marc, It was interesting to hear you refer to Gretna Green.  My knowledge of it was as a place people eloped to.  A quick search of Google confirmed my memories.  It was interesting to discover Gretna is a town built during World War 1. The village of Gretna Green is still thriving and it sounds like a great place to visit. It is certainly on my list of places to visit should I get to fulfill my dream of going to Scotland. I discovered in the past couple of years my maternal grandmother's family is from Ayrshire in Scotland.  They came from a village called Coylton. I look forward to hearing about your whiskey tour and seeing photos of Scotland. I'm really enjoying today's show #671 Thanks for all the great music Marc. Sliãnte" Wayne Myers wrote: "Hey Marc, I was listening to episode 671 while playing soccer today and heard you mention the Scottish village of Gretna Green. There is a fantasy author named Linzi Day who lives there and has her book series set there. I know she is amenable to answering questions, because she answered mine. Her book series is The Midlife Recorder series, which starts with Midlife in Gretna Green. Love the show. Slainte." Mary Lynn Deal sent a message on Patreon: "Hi Marc, I'm doing some 3d printing and office work at home while listening today. Still enjoying every minute. Have a wonderful day, Slainte," Rod Nevin commented on Patreon: "Lovely collection of music! By the way Marc, I have to tell you because I know you would want to know, the tune title for Arise & Go has “Strathspeys” and reels, and the correct pronunciation for strathspey is “strath'spay” … last syllable being what Bob Barker always reminded us to do our pets.
