We get told three different stories and each one sucks for a different reason. Is this the worst ep of the show or are we simply done with it's bullshit. We talk about: Death Stranding, The Forgotten City, Venom, Lazy Writing, Pinball, Native American Jokes, Soos In Depth, Mabel Is Wrong, Comparing GF To Of The Time Shows, Actor Voices, Luke Asks A Dangerous Question,
Jim Ryan has a history of off-putting or odd remarks that make the PlayStation fan-base question him, but his recent fireside chat with Gamesindustry.biz brings us an interesting new remark that COULD have an impact on Sony's console strategy and brings forth the question: Is PlayStation's Near Future Off Consoles? We share our thoughts on this, what it means to "believe in generations", Rockstar seemingly bringing a whole bunch of Grand Theft Auto this year to be replayed, what makes Death Stranding so compelling, and what "big" PlayStation game could be getting a remake revealed during the end of the year! Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we continue our series on BioShock. We talk a lot about the surprise of the scene of Ryan, and some mechanical and production aspects we haven't had a chance to talk about yet. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Up to Apollo Square! Issues covered: where the game should (?) have ended, playing golf with your dad, finding a way to incorporate a power station, Ryan the abstract monster vs Ryan the concrete monster, changing the lens you view Ryan through, rationalizing one's choices, the red yarn board, forcing the player to see a scene the way they want you to, egocentric Ryan and seeing oneself as a tragic hero, every villain as the hero of his own story, mythological framing, other ways you could tackle player agency here, "The Cake Is A Lie," the Irish charmer becoming the Irish thug, using Atlas to puff out Ryan as a monster, the many many layers of references and archetypes, all that matters to me is me and all that matters to you is you, killing people who are much like you, differentiating the Little Sisters in the Tenenbaum section, the mind-control plasmid, walking a tightrope with difficulty and challenge, mixing up your plasmids, the simplicity of upgrades, some numbers change or more things can be impacted, not feeling the power of tonics and plasmids, lack of builds, the limited number of axes across which powers and weapons apply, compressing the depth, modularity in world construction, solid art direction, regularity in the built world, kit-bashing, a couple of kind reviews, dealing with issues of preservation, what gets lost, wanting leaders to do more, having let's plays for reference. ¡Disfrutadlo! The Death Stranding Director's Cut on the PS5 and I will give you my first impressions. I also have my very own Sable first impressions after diving into the indie game last week. And Kena Bridge of Spirits received Patch 1.06 which should help with some of my criticisms of the game. Death Stranding PS5 gameplay got a very nice uptick in performance and appearance with the Director's Cut and I will provide you with my own first impressions and we will dive back in later. My experience with Sable gameplay was about 2 hours and I can definitely give you the good, the bad, and why I recommend you check it out. We have dove into Kena gameplay twice now, and my frustrations with the problems in the game increased, but the recent patch 1.06 might help alleviate some of the problems. The pastel desert stretches out before you. The hum of your hover-bike's engine is the only sound aside from the soft swish of the wind. You look up and see a winding tower, cast in shadow as the hot sun shines right behind it. You slowly begin the climb. Hours later, you haul yourself up over the precipice of the tower's top, and cast your gaze across the beautiful vista, coming to rest upon... three grown men yelling about video games. That's right cunnies, your Filthy boys are back talking games as we cover new indie Sable, the Outer Wilds' DLC, Death Stranding's new Director's Cut, Eastward thoughts and of course all the Mario casting analysis you'd expect from three kind and knowledgeable boys. Death Stranding is arguably Hideo Kojima's most polarizing game. But it's one worth persevering through. Death Stranding is a game that is like an onion with some deep, deep layers. In this episode, Matt Millsap and Henry Rigdon join Logan to help peel back those layers to see if Death Stranding stinks or surprisingly smells like a rose. This is something that was noticeably absent from many reviews and reactions when it first came out. There was plenty of talk about how the game is a walking simulator in many a review but is Death Stranding merely a walking simulator? We here at TRG disagree and believe Death Stranding to be so much more. Patron Thank You's! (1:17:26) TRG would not be here without our Patrons! Sony stepped into some controversy with Horizon: Forbidden West as pre-orders came with the revelation that Horizon didn't offer the same $10 upgrade path from PS4 to PS5 that Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding's Directors Cuts offered, nor the free upgrade announced back alongside Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Fans took to social media and finally Sony went back on their decision, and instead clarified that moving forward all cross-gen games will offer a $10 upgrade path. Scott sits down with Erica, Gil, and Sen to discuss the design and making of his newest game, Alien: Fate of the Nostromo. We also discuss designing to an IP, and how to make a horror game. SHOW NOTES 0m58s: The original Alien film 1m31s: The other board game based on the film Alien. Scott is not counting board games influenced by the film without the official license, like Nemesis or The Awful Green Things From Outer Space. He's also only counting games based specifically on the original film, so board games based on any of the sequels, like Aliens, or Alien vs. Predator, do not count. 1m38s: The “Optimus Prime Conundrum” is a term coined by the legendary and wonderful podcast Flip the Table. It describes a situation where a game breaks the IP it's based on by allowing multiple copies of one character. This was coined in their very first episode, in which they reviewed the Transformers Adventure Game, where each player gets to play a separate version of Optimus Prime. 2m00s: The publisher Ravensburger. There have been several versions of this film, all based on an Agatha Christie novel. 28m59s: Scott is correct in that Alien is the first film to provide a genuine “cat scare” - that is, a jump scare that turns out to just be a harmless cat. The so-called “cat scare,” in which the source of a jump scare turns out to be something ordinary, appeared 35 years before Alien. TV Tropes credits it to producer Val Lewton, in his 1942 film Cat People. However, despite the film's name, the source of the scare was a bus, not a cat. Note that one month after Alien's wide release in the US, The Amityville Horror came out; it also featured a cat-powered “cat scare.” Perhaps between these two films, the cliche was solidified. 34m15s: The Horrified games: Horrified and Horrified: American Monsters. Hideo Kojima is a name that continues to be tossed around on a partnership for Xbox, but it appears his work with PlayStation isn't finished if reports of a Death Stranding 2 are to be trusted. Is this a case of a mistranslated quote from actor Norman Reedus or will Kojima play both sides of the fence? Knowing the optics of the situation, you would have to assume that Xbox would like to isolate the legendary director. In other news, Xbox has announced a showcase of sorts for Tokyo Game Show. After Gamescom, the industry learned their lesson that the term "showcase" doesn't mean information galore and you may not even be able to trust that its biggest games are there. With expectations firmly in check, Matty and Cog dive into how Xbox needs to make strong moves to become a global brand. From localization to establishing new talent, it has been a consistent weak spot for the brand. The most important question asked in our show's history has also been answered: would we rather watch our parents do it everyday for the rest of our lives or join in once? It's an Xbox gaming show, what did you expect? A clever third answer just may raise its head... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Death Stranding 2. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Cloud gaming is coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One this holiday, allowing Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream over 100 games on their consoles without needing to download them - including playing next-gen games on last-gen hardware. Announced during the Gamescom Xbox Stream 2021, the move is a huge step further towards making Xbox games available on almost any device, allowing all compatible Game Pass games to be streamed without downloading or waiting for installs. Xbox points out that this is a useful way to try games before committing to downloading them or to jump straight into multiplayer games with friends without causing the whole party to wait. During Microsoft's Gamescom 2021 Xbox showcase, Humble Games announced a robust lineup of 10 games coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one. These indie titles join an already packed roster of games and span many genres. Some of the games include Archvale, Chinatown Detective Agency, Dodgeball Academia, Next Space Rebels, and Signalis. In a hilariously dark, perfectly Kojima way, the Games Industry legend celebrated his 58th birthday with a solemn vow. Hideo Kojima tweeted about his age and "declining" body but reassured fans that his creativity is as sharp as it's ever been. The Death Stranding and Metal Gear creator also promised to continue creating as long as his brain will allow. Kim has all that in your Daily Fix!
