Warmest of Welcomes everybody. This month on the Mooglecast we are joined by Will (Sqweezy) from Australia for a bunch of random topics including some of our favourite voice actors/actresses, what games we'd apply the nemesis system to if the patent ended and what special items we'd like to see included in a collectors edition for a game. The usual run of the show includes 'plat shout outs', 'the record' and as usual a meaty 'what we have been playing', where Max finally gives his thoughts on his first playthrough of his first Uncharted game (Drakes Fortune), and how keeping his teenage arms folded prevented him from entering this series for so long. Will as Norman Reedus with a Fetus slowly walks towards the Death Stranding platinum and Zac inches ever so slightly towards the finish line in Trackmania. We hope you enjoy Octobers episode of the Mooglecast, we'll be back in November alongside Theportlandkevin for a Bioshock retrospective, but until then, be excellent to eachother.

Enter the Gungeon is a topdown roguelike where everything is based around guns. Guns and puns. Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris board the SAG Cartoon Express for Battletoads. How in the heck did this one go so wrong? The Battletoads are actually awful children? The Dark Queen is incredibly stupid? There's a giant pink phallus? This cartoon is weird. Next, in Week Old News, there's a whole heck of a lot going on, including a new State of Play with the first bloody footage of Wolverine. It's very bloody. Plus, Doug Bowser retires, DK Bananza's strange watermelon connection, EA might go private, Pokemon gets its Lucha Libre on, and more! Finally in the checkpoint, Dan prepares for some construction, while Kris accidentally runs for 5 miles because he's bad at geography. Plus, Kris finishes Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, while Dan promises to finish Death Stranding 2. Will he do it? Time will tell! Enjoy! Timestamps:00:00:00 Nerd Culture #22700:00:40 Lekker babbelen over regisseurs.00:16:07 Supermarkten.00:16:50 Wat hebben we gekeken/gelezen/geluisterd?00:16:45 In whose name00:25:04 The Naked Gun00:29:08 The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strager Tides00:33:10 Highest 2 Lowest00:36:39 Task00:38:14 Only Murders in the Building Seizoen 500:41:20 Alien Earth00:45:30 Marvel Zombies00:50:18 Death Stranding Trailer00:53:16 Hideo Kojima luister niet naar story feedback00:54:50 Baywatch krijgt een reboot00:57:31 The Mandalorian & Grogu Trailer01:01:12 IT: Welcome to Derry Trailer

In episode 18 of (Pop) Cultural Marxism, Isi and Ajay spend some time with a handful of big news items at the intersection of politics and media—from the Skydance-Paramount merger (and other instances of media market concentration) and its implications for American newsmedia (and its potential new gatekeepers); to Charlie Kirk's assassination, its aftermath, its mediations with mass cultural objects (like alleged HellDivers II bullet etchings or Nepalese protestors with One Piece flags); the culture industry's failure to perform even its therapeutic function; and the growing exclusivity of once-accessible arts venues and performance spaces! A wide ranging discussion of summer media diets follows, beginning with Isi's recent love affair with the Western genre. The two discuss their shared fondness for Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone's many collaborations and the unmatched brilliance of HBO's Deadwood. Turning to the world of gaming, Ajay considers tragic endings (Expedition 33, the Death Stranding franchise), slow gaming (Herdling), and the relationship between gaming and choreography (Split Fiction). Also under consideration: what Joe Wright's miniseries, Mussolini: Son of the Century, gets right about the fascist imaginary; what Len Wiseman's Ballerina gets wrong about the appeal of John Wick; and what Foundation and The Sandman suggest about the challenges of adaptation and the culture industry's recent predilection for a 21st century spin on classical tragedy. Along the way, they return repeatedly to a longstanding PCM preoccupation with medium-specificity as well as the general bleakness seeping into the cultural reflections of this historical moment. (Pop) Cultural Marxism is produced by Ryan Lentini. Learn more about upcoming courses on our website. Follow Brooklyn Institute for Social Research on Twitter / Facebook / Instagram / Bluesky.
