Send us a textThere's something about December that holds both incredible beauty and unexpected pressure. Lights twinkle… calendars fill… expectations rise… and our hearts can so easily drift into overwhelm without us even noticing. If I'm honest, friend, this time of year often invites me into a deeper reliance on Jesus—not because everything is peaceful, but because everything isn't. And maybe you've felt that too.I found myself praying recently, “Lord, help me not miss You in the middle of all the noise.”Out of that simple prayer, something new was born— a way to slow down, breathe, and invite God's presence into the small corners of each December day.Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. Send us a textThis week, we're pausing around a theme many of us need right now: loving beyond lovable.Jesus said in Matthew 5: “Love your enemies… pray for those who persecute you.” Not exactly the warm holiday verse we were hoping for, right? But maybe… maybe He knew that family gatherings, unresolved tension, old wounds, and differing beliefs would make this command painfully practical. This week I've been praying about a few people I'll see whose presence feels… tender. Not unsafe. Just complicated.Maybe you know that feeling too.As I prayed, the Lord reminded me: “Pat, you don't need to fix them. Send us a textWhen Elijah fled to the wilderness, worn out and afraid, God didn't meet him in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire. Those powerful displays came and went, but the Lord's presence wasn't in them. Instead, Elijah heard Him in a gentle whisper—a sound so soft that he had to lean in close to recognize it. (1 Kings 19:11–12) In that quiet moment, God reminded Elijah—and us—that His voice doesn't compete with the noise of the world. It comes in the stillness, when our hearts are quiet enough to listen. The whisper of God is intimate, personal, and full of peace. It's not the shout of condemnation, but the tender voice that restores our strength and calls us forward again.PAUSE and HEAR HIS VOICE Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. Send us a textToday, we're getting real about something that every woman of faith faces: the thoughts that whisper “You can't.”We're right in the middle of our Esther Series, and this week we're getting practical. If you've ever thought things like:I'm not enough.I'm too late.I don't have what it takes.…then this one's for you. These are what I call limiting beliefs—the subtle lies that hold us back from walking fully in the purpose God has placed within us. But here's the good news: each one can be crushed with God's Word and a renewed mind.Let's walk through the Top 5 Limiting Beliefs that hold Christian women back—and the truth that sets us free. Send us a textOur divine assignments are not about never feeling afraid. They're about choosing faith over fear—obedience over hesitation—even when your knees are shaking.Like Esther, you don't need a perfect résumé, a flawless past, or a detailed plan. You just need the willingness to say YES to God.So pause and ask yourself:“Where in my life is God calling me to step up, even though I feel unqualified?”Your Esther moment might not look like standing before a king. It might look like:Starting or joining that ministry that sets your soul on fire.Writing the book that's been on your heart.Launching that faith-fueled business.Or having that difficult, but necessary, conversation.Whatever it is, remember—you are here, right now, for such a time as this.Don't let imposter syndrome keep you small or silent. Send us a textThere have been seasons in my life when I've felt completely uncertain about my next step. Times when I prayed for neon signs, and all I got was a whisper. Times when everything around me looked good on the outside, but my soul was tired of guessing my way forward. That's what led me to create a brand-new devotional resource called A Quiet Moment — it's a 7-FREE day journey into clarity, direction, and purpose. And it's not just for “when life falls apart.” It's for those in-between seasons… the ones that feel foggy and quiet… when we're longing to hear God's voice again. Each day includes one scripture — like Psalm 119:105:“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”Not a floodlight… not a spotlight… a lamp. Send us a textIntroduction: The Essential PauseIn today's fast-paced world, it's easy to become overwhelmed by the unending to-do lists and the constant hustle. We often find ourselves yearning for a moment of peace—a space to simply breathe and reconnect with our inner selves and with God. That is exactly what the Permission to Pause podcast, hosted by Pat Layton, aims to offer: a sanctuary where we can intentionally step away from life's noise and find rest in God's presence. The Invitation to PauseIn the latest episode of Permission to Pause, Pat Layton welcomes us into her "she Shed," a space dedicated to retreating from the chaos and meeting with God. She emphasizes the importance of pausing and seeking direction from Him, especially during times when we feel the weight of our responsibilities. Drawing from Matthew 6:6, Pat reminds us of Jesus's invitation to find a quiet place and engage in honest communication with God. It's in these moments of solitude and stillness that we can experience His grace.Enjoy!Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. Send us a textMerry Christmas friend! As this year closes and a new one begins--I have a question for you. Have you ever paused to think about the story your life tells? We all know it's easy to get stuck in the past, which I very much understand, and help women work towards getting unstuck from their past. But it's often easy to get stuck in replaying moments of pain and shame. God invites us to see our stories through, through his lens, stories of redemption and healing and hope. Revelation 12:11, reminds us that our testimonies are weapons in spiritual battle. Your story, no matter how messy or broken it might feel, is part of God's masterpiece. It's part of your armor. It's part of what you fight the enemy with, overcome the enemy with.Let's PAUSE and think about that!Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. Send us a textWelcome to another soul-soothing episode of "Permission to Pause," where we carve out a quiet space for reflection, prayer, and a deeper connection with Jesus. I'm your host, Pat Layton, and today we have a truly heartening conversation lined up for you.Joining us is my dear friend Rachel Wojo, whom I met back in 2015 through a mastermind group and our shared journey of book publishing.Rachel has recently released a transformative book titled "Desperate Prayers," a heartfelt guide to embracing prayer during life's toughest moments. In our conversation, she shares powerful insights on the simplicity and sincerity of three-word prayers like "God help me," and underscores the importance of focusing on building a relationship with God rather than being fixated on specific outcomes. We dive deep into overcoming prayer fatigue, being authentic in our prayers, and shifting our perspectives through gratitude, even in the face of despair.Rachel also opens up about her own experiences, including the challenges faced by her daughter Taylor with uncontrolled seizures, and how she finds peace and encouragement despite such trying circumstances. Tune in as we explore the profound connection between desperation and dependence on God, and discover the comforting yet practical guidance Rachel's book offers. Plus, Rachel will be leading us in a heartfelt prayer for peace and joy.Don't miss out on this enriching dialogue that promises to uplift and inspire you in your spiritual journey. Send us a textThis is surely a season of growing still. Fall is a perfect set up for a time of quiet, slow growth, a time of trust and faith and maybe even loneliness. So I encourage you, wherever you find yourself right now, to pause in the season that you're in and think about the coming season, how you're preparing, what your roots are like, where you might need to focus on some deeper preparation. I hope you enjoy this prompting to PAUSE and really FEEL the change. I have a FREE "SEASONS QUIZ" for you to DOWNLOAD from my website www.patlayton.net Psalm 7:17 says, I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness.I will sing praises of his name. Most High, the Lord most High. So, Lord, we just thank you for seasons. God, thank you for the change of seasons, that things do not stay the same, that they are ever changing in your kingdom. In your kingdom work. We happen to be going into a season of some political unrest and some political transition. So keep our roots strong, Lord. Help our faith stay strong in you to know that you are righteous. You will not leave us or forsake us. That even if things look like they're becoming bare or lonely on the outside, you are deep inside of us. Your spirit dwells in us, and our roots are strong in you. In Jesus name.
