Send us a textMerry Christmas friend! As this year closes and a new one begins--I have a question for you. Have you ever paused to think about the story your life tells? We all know it's easy to get stuck in the past, which I very much understand, and help women work towards getting unstuck from their past. But it's often easy to get stuck in replaying moments of pain and shame. God invites us to see our stories through, through his lens, stories of redemption and healing and hope. Revelation 12:11, reminds us that our testimonies are weapons in spiritual battle. Your story, no matter how messy or broken it might feel, is part of God's masterpiece. It's part of your armor. It's part of what you fight the enemy with, overcome the enemy with.Let's PAUSE and think about that!Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. I recently heard one of my favorite author/speakers use a phrase in random conversation that I could not get off my mind. I was listening to HIS podcast and scribbled a note while driving so would not forget. The phrase he used was “NET THAT butterfly” in reference to not allowing our thoughts to run away with us. That visual image has stuck in my head now for weeks. Stinking thinking tends to be a dangerous downfall of mine if I am not very careful and intentional about NOT allowing that to happen. In the fast-paced world we live in, our minds are often buzzing with a flurry of thoughts, opinions, and arguments. It's as if our brains are a never-ending butterfly garden, with thoughts fluttering about like delicate butterflies, each one vying for our attention. 2 Corinthians 10:5 ESV, that invites us to bring order to that fluttering chaos: "We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ."This verse presents a powerful imagery of netting butterflies – capturing and subduing our thoughts for the purpose of aligning them with Christ's will. Let's pause today to consider what it means to "net the butterfly" in the context of our everyday lives.FREE PDF in Permission to Pause Deeper Dive on my website!Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. As the wife of a former NFL player, podcast host and author Katy McCown knows how it feels to yearn for a sense of belonging. Spending time alone in new, unknown cities as part of her husband's profession, Katy often searched for women to connect and build community with but often felt unseen and unfulfilled. In her new six-session Bible study and accompanying teaching videos, She Belongs: Finding Your Place in the Body of Christ, Katy provides personal stories and struggles, illustrations, companion videos and questions that remind readers the key to keeping it together is coming together in the body of Christ. Through Katy's own struggles to keep up and catch up, she learned that the blessing of being part of a Christian community far outweighs the burdens. Bestselling author Sharon Jaynes offers adults a practical, specific guide to praying for their whole child—from their mind (their thoughts) to feet (the path they walk) Sharon Jaynes, international speaker and the bestselling author of twenty-five books with nearly one million sold, is a powerful voice in the global faith community. Formerly the vice president of Proverbs 31 Ministries and cohost of their radio program, Sharon knows the topics that are important to Christians; with this new book, she places the focus squarely on our children. God has given parents the privilege of shaping not just a human being but an eternal soul for a very short, very fleeting period of time. Sometimes that responsibility can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to prayer. In Praying for Your Child from Head to Toe, Sharon shows parents, grandparents, and the family/friends how to use the words of Scripture to pray powerfully and purposefully over our children from the cradle to the empty nest. This practical, encouraging and directed guide offers: A unique head-to-toe pattern to make prayer for our kids a natural habit. Thirty days with sixteen prayers each, taking the reader from prayers for a child's mind (thoughts that enter their mind), eyes (what they look at), shoulders (their burdens and worries), all the way down to their feet (the path they take). Flexibility, whether you are looking for a month-long devotional or Scripture prayers to use again and again. Sharon Jaynes writes: “Prayer is not a means of gaining control over our children, to whip them into shape and make them the men and women we want them to be. Prayer is a means of relinquishing control of our plans and asking God to shape our children into the men and women He wants them to be.” “While our roles and responsibilities as a parent change throughout the stages from childhood through adulthood, one constant remains ... prayer. And though hopefully our children will outlive us, they will never outlive our prayers that are etched in the heart of God.” Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. This episode, the last on my 2 year anniversary replays, was originally shared as Episode #4--just happening to be the 4th most popular episode over the past 2 years: Pause and Find Strength in Your Secrets. Everyone needs someone we trust and with whom we can share our story but our most important "share" is with Jesus! He will guide and direct us from there. With God's help, we will find that someone, that friend, that counselor or mentor, who will listen and not judge. We need someone who will keep our story confidential and who will pray with and for us. The more shameful our past seems the more desperate the need. Because the very thought of surrendering our secret shame frightens us so, we need to FIRST pause in God's presence and consider what "sharing" does and does not mean. In this episode of Permission to Pause, we dive deep into the bondage of secrets and how they can hold us back from experiencing true freedom in Christ. We discuss how acknowledging these secrets and leaning on our faith can bring peace, hope, and restoration. Join me in reflecting on the past, finding purpose in the present, and fueling our passion for the future. You can find more information on this topic on my blog and in my resources. And please don't forget to leave your feedback! Let's embrace the power of pausing together.
Welcome back to Permission to Pause! In this special replay episode, we revisit one of our most beloved episodes, "Purpose and Calling." Join us as we delve into the depths of finding purpose, surrendering to God's plan, and embracing our unique calling. This episode serves as a reminder to pause, breathe, and reflect on our journey with Jesus. Before we dive in, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your support. We kindly ask you to help us spread the message by leaving a review on Apple Podcasts or your preferred platform. By sharing the podcast with a friend and tagging us on Instagram or Facebook, you are helping us create a community of women who seek to find peace with their past, understand their purpose in the present, and ignite passion for the future. At Permission to Pause, we believe that coming to Jesus in the midst of our busy lives is crucial. Our aim is to provide a sacred space where you can find solace, prioritize your relationship with Jesus, and discover the peace that surpasses all understanding. As we journey together, episodes will focus on forgiveness, finding purpose in the present, and cultivating passion for the future. In this replayed episode, we pause for some insights on the significance of "doors" in scripture and our spiritual lives. Lets take some time to evaluate the doors God may be opening or closing in our own lives. Surrendering to His guidance allows us to step into the next level of purpose and calling. As we celebrate two years of Permission to Pause, we are humbled by the overwhelming support, love, and growth of our community. We are grateful for the new listeners and friends we've connected with on social media. To welcome new listeners, we encourage you to explore the "welcome" episode where you can learn more about our podcast and its mission. Welcome to Episode 64 of Permission to Pause--part 3 of a 4 part series on SOUL CARE as we move form WINTER to SPRING!If you are a regular listener here on the podcast, you may have noticed some irregular post. I have been a traveling crazy girl! Lots of speaking and ministry work for the past 6 weeks. I am TIRED.Can I say that? I think I just did :)So, this Episode is very timely for me and hopefully for you as well.I want us to talk about PAUSING TO REST when we need it and receiving help when we need it.It is so important to seek help and support from people that we trust--family friends are professionals, when we're going through a tough time or difficult time. It can be so tempting during that time to isolate ourselves. I have mentioned during this series, my love for the study of Elijah and his escape to the broom tree during a time of stress and exhaustion. I never get tired of being reminded how God met him right there in his place of exhaustion (after some really great feats of ministry).Let's pause over the verse we find in First Kings, chapter 19:3-5.I hope it blesses you!BTW--If you need a speaker for the Fall, let me know. Being STUCK IN A SEASON of the bareness of WINTER not a new issue. We've likely been there--done that and surely know others who have. Let's PAUSE today to consider being STUCK between WINTER and SPRING. Some may call it BURNOUT but we are looking towards BREAKTHROUGH. There is a FINE LINE between Winter and Spring--Burnout out and BREAKTHOUGH! God wants us to find that line. It's likely why you are here today. Hey friend--Thank you for joining me on this new podcast series where my goal is to help us PAUSE and consider a NEW SEASON for our SOULS!Lets talk for a few weeks about getting unstuck from Winter to Spring. A lot of us, over the last couple of years have dealt with a whole different level of life transition so I specifically want to talk a bit about getting our SOULS unstuck--FROM WINTER TO SPRING? You might know--my book is called LIFE UNSTUCK (It's on AMAZON!) There are several tools in my Amazon Shop that will help you along this journey. Right now, on my beautiful little northwest Georgia bit of heaven, there is so much new growth all around our property. I'm looking out through the windows of my She Shed at the gorgeous, wild Day Lilies, Forsythia blooms, Pear trees, Wild Cherry trees, and my favorite is the fabulous Dogwoods right outside my window. They actually line our driveway but have not quite bloomed yet. within the next days or week they are going to be bursting out in beautiful little white flowers. It makes me think about how change of seasons not only effect the natural world but also our emotional and spiritual worlds. I would imagine wherever you are wherever your listening to my voice you are living with the same fresh natural beauty, as Easter approaches, things start to bloom and turn green all around you but you may be still feeling a bit STUCK IN WINTER emotionally or spiritually!Lets' PAUSE and think about ways that we can get UNSTUCK from Winter so that we can prepare our souls for a NEW SEASON of Spring blooms!Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. For the past few weeks we have been focusing on one of my favorite verses in the Bible, specifically the MESSAGE version.Matthew 11:28-3028-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.”Nothing great happens in our lives without PURPOSE. Without INTENTION. Without COMMITMENT.This invitation in Matt requires a few personal intentions: It requires getting clear about what “me/God” time means to you and sometimes explaining this to the people in your life.Join me on the podcast this week to consider a few INTENTIONS that will shape your PERMISSION TO PAUSE!Visit my website at www.patlayton.net to sign up for FREE resources and gifts!Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. We have Paused together over the past few episodes to consider exactly what the Listening Life looks like.We started this theme back in Episode # 56 If you have missed any since then I encourage you to slip back a few episodes and catch up.1st (Ep 56) considered Jesus easy, no pressure instructions on how to take hold of the listening life—2nd (Ep 57) episode we considered where to find it in the middle of the crazy busy lives we live! In fact we talked about pots and pans—can I get a witness? 3rd (Ep 58) we started considering 10 places right in our own lives now to find a place of pause— This episode/ 59 is the last part of a finding PLACES to pause, WHERE IN OUR BUSY LIVES, WE CAN CAPTURE maybe unexpected Places of REST!Our verse is Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.”As a quick review, we talked about—1. Journaling2. Getting OUTDOORS3. Taking some play time with family or friends4. Indulging in some pampering5. De-cluttering!So here we go with Places to Pause 6-10You know what to do next—lets do it!Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. Hey friend--let's take a moment to pause together. I always encourage taking a few deep breaths and opening your heart. In recent episodes, we have discussed the listening life, considering our listening skills and the condition of our hearts. Today, I want to share a habit from Jesus' words that will change your life. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus says "Come to me...and you'll recover your life...Learn the unforced rhythms of grace."Women, especially mothers, are prone to neglecting self-care. We are trained to keep going despite emotional exhaustion, and we often give at the expense of our own well-being. Running on empty leads to feelings of conflict, victimization, anger, exhaustion, and irritability. However, Jesus invites us to experience the unforced rhythms of grace.Lets PAUSE together today to consider 5 Places to Pause in the middle of the hustle! I would like to remind you of the deeper dive resources available on my website,--www.patlayton.net. There, you can find a blog post with the script for this episode, as well as several free prayer guides,A BRAND NEW FREE PACKET that includes 6 FREE PRAYER TOOLS! Today verse is 1 Samuel 3:9Speak Lord, your servant is listening.Last episode we thought about God's word in John 10:27 that reminds us that God's people LISTEN for His voice and OBEY Him.Lets stay a bit longer in that place of pause as we consider the LISTENING LIFE—What does it really mean to YOU to HEAR GOD's VOICE? How do you know when you have heard? And a really big question is How can I find enough quiet and stillness to actually HEAR from God when my life is so busy and full I can barely hear myself think! Lets talk POTS AND PANS! (I promise you will love it!)Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.—John 10:27 ESV If you didn't know, my husband and I have a little hobby farm in Georgia. We have three dogs, a parrot, and three baby goats. Yes, I know what the Bible says about sheep and goats. To be honest, it stings my soul a bit, I love my baby goats!Yet, at the same time, I can clearly understand why God's Word separates them. Sheep are prone to listen to their master. Sheep will follow the lead of their shepherd as they look to him for provision and protection Goats…not so much. In fact, I am most at risk of saying naughty words when I'm trying to get my adorable little goats to do (or not do) something. Friend, the struggle is REAL! Nevertheless, the revelation of this visible difference between the sheep and goats has caused me to indeed pause and consider the words of Jesus in John 10:27. Am I a good sheep? Am I a good listener?Do I follow my Shepherd? Let's start the year off by pausing and praying about our listening and following skills.Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause.
