Colleen Joyce, CEO of Lawyer.com, returns to the show to talk about the Lawyer Growth Summit, happening July 15–17 at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas. This one's a little different from the usual playbook. Colleen and her team built LGS around a simple principle: nobody sells from the stage. After learning the hard way with post-COVID boot camps (and 100% churn), they rebuilt the event around peer learning, tangible action items, and the kind of "tell me how you actually did that" conversations that happen in the hallway and at the bar.We get into:Why brand is now the top of the marketing funnel — and how the biggest-name firms are growing social followings into six figures and pulling referrals from social aloneThe new world of AI SEO, featuring Justia CEO Tim Stanley sharing directory and search expertiseHow LGS is built for any growth-minded firm (with a heavy personal injury crowd), not just one practice areaThe experience side: a vendor lounge with no hard sells, high-end food and bev, and fun evening events (including a luxury retail store buyout with champagne and prizes)Bonus for staying through Friday the 17th: the Backstreet Boys at The SphereTickets, agenda, and speakers are all at lawyergrowthsummit.com. The Backrooms movie arrives tomorrow from A24, and we're diving into how found footage horror and liminal space folklore became one of internet culture's most unsettling modern legends. From a creepy 2019 message board image to Kane Pixels' viral YouTube series, Reddit deep dives, TikTok rabbit holes, and analog horror aesthetics—this episode explores why empty hallways, buzzing fluorescent lights, and yellow walls tap into something primal about being lost nowhere.Inside this episode:• Why The Backrooms are trending again with the A24 film arriving tomorrow • How a simple empty yellow room became a modern creepypasta legend • Why liminal spaces feel so familiar, lonely, and unsettling• How Kane Pixels helped turn internet horror into cinematic found-footage nightmare• Why the scariest thing about The Backrooms may not be the monster - but the architecture itselfThis is a quick, creepy, casual dive into the internet horror phenomenon that made empty hallways feel like a doorway out of reality.

Psychiatric medication tapering* is becoming one of the most important and controversial conversations in mental health care.In the wake of the American Psychiatric Association Annual Conference, Dr. Bret Scher explores the growing debate around psychiatric medication “deprescribing,” responsible tapering, overprescription, and the urgent need for better research and clinician guidance. This discussion examines the real clinical questions:When should psychiatric medications be reassessed? How should tapering be approached safely? How do we distinguish withdrawal symptoms from relapse? Why is there still so little research on tapering protocols? What role could metabolic psychiatry and ketogenic therapy play in supporting brain health during treatment?Dr. Scher also discusses why every psychiatric prescription should include an ongoing plan for reassessment, not just indefinite continuation by default.Importantly, this video does NOT encourage anyone to stop psychiatric medications on their own. Decisions about medication changes should always be made carefully with a qualified healthcare provider.

“Commissioned by Governor Lachlan Macquarie and built with convict labour, Hyde Park Barracks was the first convict barracks in the colony. Previously, convicts had been allowed to find their own accommodation, but by housing them in a barracks Macquarie hoped to increase their productivity and improve their moral character. The three-storey building with massive shingled roof and a simple yet striking façade was designed by convict architect Francis Greenway. So impressed was Macquarie with this design that he granted Greenway a full pardon”. – Museums of History NSW Follow me on Instagram at @douglaswelch, @dewdesignphoto, and @agardenersnotebook and Pixelfed.

Send us Fan MailRachel Goldberg-Polin on Faith, Grief, and Meaning After Hersh's Captivity | From the Inside OutHosts Rivkah Krinsky and Eda Schottenstein interview educator and author Rachel Goldberg-Polin about her book When We See You Again, her family's life in Jerusalem, and the loss of her son Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who was taken hostage from the Nova Music Festival on October 7 and later murdered after 328 days in captivity. Rachel recounts her path into Orthodox Jewish life starting in eighth grade at an Orthodox day school, describes how tefillah and Torah have sustained her, and shares how Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning—relayed to her through released hostage Or Levy—became a tool for enduring suffering by finding purpose. She discusses Modeh Ani, trust in Hashem amid uncertainty, grief as an expression of love, “toxic positivity” versus “tragic optimism,” and verses and teachings that frame this world as a hallway to the next.EPISODE SPONSORSColel Chabad Colel Chabad is one of Israel's oldest continuously operating charities, supporting families with food security, widows & orphans, and emergency relief.  Their Pushka (Charity Box) App makes it easy to turn inspiration into action with simple daily giving—small “micro-donations” that add up to real impact over time. Call this a throwback to a troubled era of the show (and the world for that matter). But it's a fun one, we promise. The boys pay respects to respected local institutions and a legendary Orge from the 80s before tearing into chintzy airlines and even chintzier sneaker brands. Yack finally gets around to the Michael movie phenomenon, and the guys get fully spoilery on the recently concluded season of Daredevil Born Again. They close by considering the prospect of another AJ in DC, though we suspect this new AJ might be a little better at hoops than our AJ. TBD.

UnBecoming Part 3 - The Hallway. (May 14, 2026)You look over at the light streaming in through your bedroom window. It's not the soft light of the moon; it's artificial light. Street lights. You're not home, you're back home. In the same twin bed you slept in during high school, watching the same trees dance in the wind, the same shadows play on the same hardwood floors you played on, talked on the phone in circles on, those floors have witnessed you.And now you kneel on them. You pray on them, whispering down toward them, you walk in tight circles on them, not on a call, but as a form of meditation, feeling God's Love in every step. Calling His Name with every step. Asking to be shown, to be provided the next step- whether to divorce or not. Whether to move or not? To the beach, perhaps. You're conflicted. But the floor is not. The room is not. It's bare. It's clean. It's small, but tidy. You can hear yourself think here, even as you are trying to get out to that place beyond thoughts, where the real answers come from. The Peace you feel as you listen past your thoughts and look over their shoulders, brings about sleep.Just as you drift, you are startled awake. Was that a crash? Did something fall? Did someone fall? You listen… for the children. For your parents. Acute. Aware. It was nothing. You soften back into the mattress, resting on your back, not yet asleep again,CRASH.Definitely something that time. Definitely someone. Your heart rate rises faster than you can. You jump up, grabbing your phone with shaky hands, instinctively yelling, 'DAD!' the one you worry about the most. The one you've called on the most. The one who understands. Before you can even enter the hall, you see his feet sticking out of his door. God. >>>> UNBECOMING.https://www.curlynikki.com/unbecoming.html

couple began noticing something strange inside the trailer. At first, it was just movement out of the corner of the eye—a shadowy figure that seemed to appear briefly in the hallway before vanishing whenever they turned to look directly at it.For months, neither of them said anything. Both quietly assumed the other would think they were losing their mind. Then one morning in the kitchen, the husband glanced over and saw what he thought was his wife standing only inches away from him. But when he turned fully toward her, he realized he was staring directly at something else entirely. And moments later, his actual wife walked into the room and revealed a secret she'd been hiding for six months too. #RealGhostStories #HauntedTrailer #ParanormalEncounter #GhostStories #Apparition #HauntedHome #SupernaturalExperience #TrueGhostStory #ParanormalPodcast #ShadowFigureLove real ghost stories? Between Walmart's "Who Knew" thesis, EMARKETER's no-safe-channels reset, and Phillip's case for what it would take for POSSIBLE to rival Cannes, the team weighs what makes a conference culturally relevant and what's still missing from most experiences. Great, Now We're Drowning In Pod Slop, Too Key Takeaways: POSSIBLE's beach-party-meets-marketing-conference format makes activations feel organic, not transactional. The customer journey isn't collapsing anymore; it's compressing. Pinterest now suggests 10 posts to break through feeds. Meta wants 50. This episode captures the energy of PowerShell Summit through two conversations, one with Gilbert Sanchez and one with Joshua Dearing. The discussion moves from open source maintenance and the future of PowerShell in AI workflows to the human side of technical communities, including burnout, neurodiversity, mentorship, and the value of showing up in person. It also highlights how PowerShell can change careers over time, not just by teaching syntax, but by opening doors to better communication, stronger community ties, and bigger technical thinking. Key Takeaways: · Community is often the unlock, not just the tooling. Both conversations reinforce that Summit's real value is the people, the hallway conversations, and the sense that learning gets easier when you have others around you who are willing to help. · Sustainable technical growth matters more than short bursts of output. Gilbert talks about burnout, open source maintenance, and creating healthier ways to contribute, while Andrew connects that to ADHD, mental health, and building a career that can last. · PowerShell is a starting point for much bigger opportunities. Joshua's story, from community member to module author, reflects a broader theme in the episode that small steps, taken consistently, can completely reshape what kind of work you can do and who you can become in the field. Merrick Watts comes in to celebrate Nova's 25th birthday as one of the original breakfast hosts and immediately starts throwing hand grenades. His standout memory from the early days: being told he wasn't allowed to ride the station scooter, so he went downstairs, got his 1000cc Ducati, brought it up in the lift and rode it full pelt down the corridor tearing up the carpet at 7:30 in the morning. He also reveals there is a scroll sealed inside the studio wall with the names of every on-air host from day one. His name is in there. He is not allowed back in the building.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kanika Powell was a 28-year-old Army veteran and security contractor with top-secret clearance who lived alone in the Deerfield Run Apartments in Laurel, Maryland, and led a quiet, ordinary life of work, family, and close friends. In the week before her death, she endured three bizarre knocks at her door: a man claiming to be an FBI agent on August 23, a fake FedEx delivery driver on August 27, and another supposed delivery person on the morning of August 28. On Thursday, August 28, 2008, after taking the day off to prepare for a Pride weekend trip to Atlanta with a new female friend, Kanika returned from running errands around 11:50 a.m. and was ambushed in her apartment hallway, shot multiple times in the upper body while screaming “no, no, no.” She was rushed to the hospital but died the next day on August 29; her wallet and valuables were untouched, ruling out robbery, and the shooter vanished without a trace in broad daylight. The case remains unsolved with no clear motive, sparking theories ranging from a professional hit tied to her classified government work, a possible link to another unsolved murder of Sean Green in the same county, or jealousy from the ex-boyfriend of her new romantic partner.   Branch of Hope: https://www.dareformore.org/ In 2012, Reba Bowman, founder of Dare for More, traveled to the Dominican Republic to speak at a women's event. What she witnessed there forever changed her—and the direction of the ministry. She saw firsthand the devastating plight of women and girls in places where toxic cultural norms treat them as disposable. In these environments, exploitation takes countless cruel forms, and extreme poverty often becomes the breaking point, pushing vulnerable women and children into unimaginable crises. Living on as little as $1.25 a day creates desperate pressure that leaves families exposed to human trafficking and other forms of abuse. Globally, millions of women and children endure exploitation every day as a result. Many factors drive individuals to this edge: marginalization by their own communities, widowhood, orphanhood, abuse, neglect, or simply having no one to hear their cries for help. At Dare for More, we believe prevention is as vital as rescue. By reaching women and families before they fall into victimhood, we help build stability and hope. In each community we serve, we offer practical, life-changing support: life-skills training, job training, and resources that empower women to provide for themselves and their children. These opportunities spark immediate transformation for families while sowing seeds of generational change—breaking cycles of poverty and vulnerability for years to come. Through rescue, restoration, and mobilization, Dare for More dares to believe in brighter futures for women and children worldwide.   Sources: Kanika Powell: Murder — This Time She Didn't Have to Answer the Door| A Professional Hit | Case 28 | by Jadyn Harlow - The Missing Found Podcast | Medium A Killer Comes Knocking - Unsolved Mysteries   Join The Dark Oak Discussion: Patreon The Dark Oak Podcast Website Facebook Instagram Twitter TikTok Youtube This episode of The Dark Oak was created, researched, written, recorded, hosted, edited, published, and marketed by Cynthia and Stefanie of Just Us Gals Productions with artwork by Justyse Himes and Music by Ryan Creep

How to Decorate

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome a truly iconic British designer to the show! Our guest today is Steven Rodel, Creative Director at one of the UK's most esteemed design practices, Guy Goodfellow. Guy Goodfellow is renowned for a deep knowledge of historic interiors, an impeccable eye for art and antiques, and a talent for creating homes that feel beautifully evolved. Steven brings a distinctly British perspective as he joins Caroline, Taryn, and Liz to talk about his recent London flat renovation and the secrets to achieving an authentic "English Country" look. He explains why rooms shouldn't feel "showy" or "themed," how to confidently display your personal style, and why every home needs a touch of eccentricity. Quick Decorating Takeaways: Embrace the Imperfect and Eccentric: An authentic, lived-in space requires a bit of eccentricity. Don't shy away from battered or worn antique pieces—like a well-loved games table that shows the history of how many games have been played on it. Avoid the "Themed" Look: A true English Country home balances heritage and comfort. The goal is to make a room feel like it has naturally evolved over the years, rather than looking like a stage set or a perfectly matched theme. Make the Hallway a Destination: If you have a long, dark, narrow hallway, don't just treat it as a pass-through space. Hang a gallery wall of personal photos to make people linger, use fun wallpaper, add sconces, and place a mirror at the very end to bounce natural light from adjacent rooms or skylights. Sometimes the most powerful force shaping a student's experience isn't found in a lesson plan or a rubric—it's found in the educator. In this episode, I share a deeply personal reflection on two incidents that happened last Friday which nearly drove me to scrap my recording schedule. From a frustrating "lack of space" in a preschool foyer to a tear-jerking video from a fourth-grade teacher, we explore the "Pedagogy of Appreciation." We dive into how the smallest signals—the ones we send in our hallways, our foyers, and our 30-second gestures—communicate the biggest messages to our students about who they are and whether they truly belong. What You'll Learn in This Episode:The "Power in the Pause": Why reflecting on our emotional reactions is a critical professional practice. The Space We Make: A critique of "selective visibility" in school common areas and why "no space" is often just a lack of intentionality.A Pedagogy of Appreciation: Inspired by Dr. DerNécia Phillips, we discuss how affirming a student's "whole self" impacts their motivation and success.Instruction Creates the Vibe: Why culture isn't a happy accident—it's an intentional design choice made by every adult in the building. The Coaching Corner:In this week's segment, we move from theory to action using the AAA Reflection Framework:Awareness: What signals are being sent in your shared spaces right now?Acceptance or Rejection: Does the current pattern align with the culture you want to create?Action: Identifying one small, intentional shift to affirm a student this week.Implementation Intention: Borrowing from James Clear's Atomic Habits, I challenge you to set a specific plan:"This week, I will [Action] at [Time] for [Student/Group] in [Location]."Resources Mentioned:TED Talk: An Appreciation-Based Approach to Reimagine Education for Black Girls by Dr. DerNécia Phillips.Book: Atomic Habits by James Clear. The AAA Framework: My signature tool for educator reflection (Awareness, Acceptance, Action).

Because her mother had been seeing the same figure too.Even now, after living in the house for many years, the family still isn't entirely sure what—or who—has been sharing the home with them.#RealGhostStoriesOnline #ShadowMan #GhostStories #ParanormalEncounter #HauntedHouse #ShadowFigure #TrueGhostStory #ParanormalActivity #SupernaturalExperience Love real ghost stories? On a morning when 2026 feels like a relentless storm of headlines, uncertainty, and noise, Angel Santana Jr. wakes the airwaves with a simple command: Have faith. Let it begin. In this deeply personal and honest episode, Angel takes listeners on a day-in-the-life journey — from the suffocating swirl of bad news and workplace chatter to an unexpected, life-affirming moment in a hallway that feels anything but accidental. With vulnerability about fear, a recent benign diagnosis, and the everyday chaos of family life, he reminds us that God often sends messengers in the most ordinary places. Through prayer, laughter, and real-world tenderness, this short but powerful story invites you to steady your heart, take one faithful step at a time, and recognize the grace that meets us right where we are. When the world feels loud…When fear feels close…When you’re not sure what tomorrow holds… Grace might just be waiting in the hallway. Have Faith. Let It Begin.

Some houses feel their age in creaks and drafts. Others wear their history the way a body wears scars. And then there are homes like the one outside Joplin, Missouri — places that seem to wake up when the sun goes down. For Courtney and her siblings, childhood didn't just happen inside that house… it happened alongside whatever else lived there. Something small and fast enough to blur across the hallway. Something bold enough to sit on a girl's chest in the dark. Something strong enough to slam a door through thick carpet. But the real story isn't just what they saw — it's the heaviness that settled into the walls afterward. The sense of being watched on the stairs. The feeling of breath behind you in the hallway. The way every child in the house learned to walk fast, never look into the dark too long, and never, ever sleep with their door cracked open. Years later, the house is gone from their lives… but not from their dreams. Because some places don't stay behind when you move. Some places follow. #ShadowEntity #JoplinHaunting #ParanormalChildhood #MidwestGhosts #RGSOStory #SomethingInTheHall #ShadowCreature #OldHouseEnergy #UnexplainedEncounters #HauntedMemories  Love real ghost stories?
