“It was always in a weird way, I wouldn’t say triggering, but I just didn’t like it. And then by the end, I really did love it. It just felt really heartwarming when different people in the Process, even still, since we all – a lot of us still keep in touch, and they call me Bubba, it makes me smile.” – Julie Shapiro Hoffman grad, Julie Shapiro, found herself at a crossroads. She knew what she wanted to change in herself. Yet, she also felt unable to make that change. There’s change we can make through our choices, and then there’s change that must come from deeper within. The Hoffman Process works in this deeper place within us through the Cycle of Transformation. This is the place where the “magic” of the Process happens. Julie’s story is one of courage, desire, and willingness. She came to the Process with profound scepticism. But she also came with a willingness to fully enter into the Process to allow change to happen within her, even though she couldn’t understand how it would happen. In moments of silence in nature, time with a Buddha, and places where Julie knew she had to go deeper, the “magic” of transformation happened. She gained new insights and saw a deeply rooted pattern. In one moment that allowed her Process to go deeper, Julie realized she had to use the childhood nickname her father had given her on her name tag rather than her given name. She knew that, even though her nickname, Bubba, triggered her, using it would be important. And it turned out to be. As Julie shares, using Bubba “was the real way to connect with my childhood, connect with my parent relationship, work through some things that I may not have had the opportunity to do before he died, and just really connect with him.“ Connecting with her childhood unlocked something deeper within. Hearing fellow students call her Bubba began to bring her joy. Beautiful, ineffable things can happen when you surrender to the Process, as Julie did. We hope you enjoy this heartfelt conversation with Julie and Sadie. Listen on Apple Podcasts More about Julie Shapiro: Have you ever known exactly what you wanted to change about yourself — but felt unable actually to make the change? It was at that crossroads that Julie Shapiro signed up for the Hoffman Process. At 42, she felt that certain milestones, like marriage and starting a family, were out of reach. A lifelong New Yorker, she'd recently moved to Los Angeles and unexpectedly lost her dad within weeks of moving. A Stanford graduate, she set impossibly high standards for herself, both personally and professionally. Little Bubba Julie had spent years in therapy, taken meditation courses, and tried other modalities to reduce anxiety. She was self-aware and could name her patterns. But awareness alone wasn't moving the needle to evoke the changes she wanted. The Hoffman Process was not something she ever would have considered. She expected it to be “woo woo” and couldn't imagine that a one-week retreat had any long-term benefits. But despite her skepticism, she attended the Process in 2024, hoping it might unlock something within her. The Process did just that. Through the Cycle of Transformation, Julie was able to move beyond her lawyer-trained intellect and tap into her emotional and spiritual selves. She discovered a deeply rooted pattern of living in survival mode — pushing through things that made her unhappy just to achieve the end goal. As the Process week unfolded, she began to believe that a spirit-led life, focused on “being” rather than “having,” was not only possible, but available to her. One year later, in 2025, Julie returned for the Q2 graduate program to deepen her Hoffman toolkit. She is actively reorienting her life around who and what truly light her up — and redefining achievement along the way, from her tangible accomplishments to the person she is becoming. Follow Julie on Instagram. As mentioned in this episode: Hoffman’s Q2 is a three-day program for Process graduates. Early-onset Alzheimers Drew Horning: Julie’s Hoffman teacher and one of the Hoffman Podcast hosts. The Crossword Hoffman Terminology and Tools: Awareness Hell: In the Hoffman Process, when we're in awareness hell, we know we are aware of our patterns and the things we do that we wish we didn't, but we are still unable to change. We understand, but feel stuck in this place of hell, even though our awareness keeps expanding.  To get out of awareness hell, our work to grow and transform must include three additional steps for change to take place. These three steps are Expression, Compassion, and New Ways of Being. All four make up the Cycle of Transformation. The Cycle of Transformation: The four steps in the cycle are Awareness, Expression, Compassion, and New Ways of Being. All four make up the Cycle of Transformation.               Be-Do-Have vs. Do-Have-Be: The life we long for comes from Be-Do-Have; the life we are taught we should strive for comes from Do-Have-Be. Recycling/pre-cycling is a tool and a practice for receiving wisdom from your own Spiritual Self, which gives you qualities that lead you directly to new behavior, authenticity, and the freedom to respond rather than react to patterns. You replace a pattern with an authentic quality of your Spiritual Self and embody that quality. You create new behavior from this embodiment. When recycling, you use a scene from your recent past when you acted out the pattern. In pre-cycling, you use an imagined scene when you act out the pattern at some point in the future. Your Spiritual Self ultimately guides you on how to BE so that you DO what supports your being and HAVE what you need to support your living. Read about Dark Side work in the Hoffman Q2.

DOCKET ALERTS:   The House Judiciary Committee wants to change the US Attorney statute to say what Attorney General Bondi claimed it did in court. This would involve the Senate voluntarily surrendering their power to vote on nominees, so … lotsa luck. Back in New Jersey, prosecutors say they'll seek superseding indictments in cases with Alina Habba's name on them, to remove the stink of illegitimacy.   The DOJ has quietly settled a trollsuit filed by red states and rightwing trolls, including Robert Kennedy, alleging social media censorship by the Biden administration. The Supreme Court already dropkicked this case once, so the parties agreed to simply declare victory and go home.   And Sam Bankman-Fried finds new ways to piss off judges and be sooooo weird, this time with help from his mom.   MAIN SHOW:   The DOJ settled a bogus lawsuit filed by former national security advisor Mike Flynn. His malicious prosecution claims had already been tossed by a federal judge, but she let him amend his complaint again, and by then Trump was back in the White House. Is this a new template for MAGA criminals to back the truck up to the Treasury and start filling it with taxpayer cash? The January 6 defendants sure seem to think so! Bringing the Eucharist to people who are sick and in nursing facilities. Also believe we need to learn how to help someone who wants to become Catholic. Referring people to sources of information and also being welcoming. How pleasant we are is important with generalization. (37:17) Break 2 How can we evangelize if we are afraid or feel inadequate. “Wisdom is a little bit more than just knowledge or experience; it’s a felt sense of truth and what reality is, and it’s a very tricky thing, because no one really has the final say on some of these things.” – Tyson Fok  When philosopher, designer, innovative creator, and Hoffman Process grad, Tyson Fok, tells his story, he weaves together his life experiences with his joyful pursuit of wisdom, an open sense of wonder, and a deeper quest for understanding. In doing so, he reveals a thoughtful retelling of a dynamic life path. There are many powerful threads to this conversation with Tyson and Sadie. What stands out is Tyson’s way of navigating the world and relationships with his fellow human beings. Since he was young, Tyson has explored his curiosity and sense of wonder. The question of ‘Why?’ has been at the heart of this exploration. He came to the Hoffman Process in 2019, having completed a ten-day silent retreat prior. Tyson touches on multiple outcomes from his Process. One is a deeper relationship with his wife. Another is the desire to leave awareness hell and venture into an active exploration of turning his ideas into reality. And a third is a profound understanding of his parents’ stories, separate and together, which helped him express his appreciation and love for them. Tyson shares, “My mother is an immigrant from Macau. My father’s family is from Hong Kong. And it’s such a different reality than what I grew up with. And to understand their story, where they came from, has given me just a whole different level of appreciation of my life. That was a huge shift for me that came out of Hoffman.” After the Process, and during COVID, Tyson decided to start a podcast. Eventually, his podcast morphed into what it is now, Mixtape Memories. The podcast has blossomed into a physical card game and an app. We hope you enjoy this wise and wonderful exploration of the question of ‘Why?’ with Tyson and Sadie. Listen on Apple Podcasts Listen on Spotify More about Tyson Fok: Tyson Fok is an interior designer, podcast host, and creative producer working at the intersection of space, story, and human connection. His design practice centers on creating environments that are not only visually compelling, but deeply aligned with the lives people want to live—spaces that function as both backdrop and catalyst for meaningful experience. He is the creator of Mixtape Memories, an ongoing storytelling project that explores identity through the music that shapes us. Through its podcast, Songversation card game, and companion app, the project invites people to reflect on their lives through song—transforming personal memory into a shared language of connection. Across his work, Tyson is driven by a core question: how do we design for a more intentional, connected life? This inquiry extends beyond interiors into the gatherings and communities he builds. As a community and event organizer, he creates spaces—both physical and social—where people can engage more honestly with themselves and each other, often blending elements of storytelling, design, and facilitated conversation. His approach is interdisciplinary but precise: remove noise, surface what matters, and design environments—whether a room, a conversation, or an experience—that make those priorities tangible and actionable. "When you look at where families invest across the spectrum of sustainable and impact investing, climate is really at the forefront. They think about that because, look at our environment, look at the food supply… because of environmental issues. Not withstanding the tariffs too….These are issues that have to be segmented and families are doing the work and they're putting their capital in…(F)amilies really are more and more values aligning their investments, and there's a blurring  (of the) line between philanthropy and catalytic investing so that they can invest in climate and do things in all their active portfolios. So I feel like this is just going to increase over time in a pretty significant way." Jolyne Caruso on Electric Ladies Podcast The great wealth transfer of $124 trillion will flow into the hands of women, Millennials and Gen Zrs over the next 30 years, and these are hands that value climate, clean energy, sustainability and social causes more than their forebears. What impact might that have? Listen to Jolyne Caruso, Financial Executive, Investor and Wealth Advisor in this enlightening conversation with Electric Ladies Podcast host Joan Michelson. You'll hear about: ●        How women tend to donate and invest differently than men do and why. ●        Impact and climate-related investing the way women, Gen Z & Millennials do it. ●        New spins on "risk" and "reward" & why financial literacy is crucial. ●        What the great wealth transfer is and how it could dramatically affect the economy. ●        Plus, career advice, such as:  "One of the things that I recommend women do, Joan, is to join boards as soon as they can. And I'll tell you why. When I was at Barnard, I was very involved as a student in my class. I was reunion chair and raising money for my class. But it wasn't until I got on the alumni board at Barnard, which led to getting on the big board at Barnard when I was 40 years old, that my life fundamentally changed….This isn't about giving a hundred thousand dollars to your alma mater that you don't have. It's finding boards that will all take women of all ages…My daughter's on the board of a dog rescue company, organization. Get on a board and sit around the table and become a change agent in that regard….Because you network, you get hands-on experience without being at work." One thing we know for sure is that we will all need end-of-life planning and services eventually. And while some of us will choose familiar rituals like a traditional burial led by a religious leader, others appreciate having new and different options for honoring loved ones upon their death.   Ernie Heffner of Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory sits down with Jeffrey Bellomo to discuss evolving funeral service practices that reflect changing cultural and religious norms in our communities. But regardless of whether families choose a traditional or more contemporary approach to saying goodbye, everyone wants a meaningful, personalized remembrance that provides comfort during such a difficult time.  We hope you'll join us for this discussion, which also underscores the importance of talking with your family members or a funeral services provider to make sure that your wishes are known ahead of time. This relieves your family of uncertainty, avoids last-minute decisions, and allows for a more healing experience.   For additional details on service options or to contact one of Heffner's several locations in Pennsylvania, please visit https://www.heffnercare.com/   WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (00:00) Introduction: Ernie Heffner   (02:17) Ernie's background and how the funeral industry has changed  (04:59) Differences and trends in final disposition (e.g., burial vs. cremation)  (07:50) Decline in religious affiliation and the rise of celebrant services  (10:21) Serving a wide variety of demographic groups and belief systems   (12:41) The benefits of an on-site crematory  (14:08) Common misconceptions about embalming and caskets  (15:32) Creating meaningful, personal goodbyes  (17:32) The emotional impact of personalized services  (20:10) Scuba diving with Ernie and Jeff     ABOUT BELLOMO & ASSOCIATES Jeffrey R. In this week's episode photographer Lynn Goldsmith takes on our ‘Proust Photo Quiz'… Lynn Goldsmith's photography has appeared on and between the covers of Life, Newsweek, Time, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, National Geographic Traveler, People, Elle, Interview, and the The New Yorker amongst many others. Her subjects have varied from entertainment personalities to sports stars, from film directors to authors and her work is held in numerous museum collections and personal art collections. Fifteen books of Goldsmith's imagery have been published and she has also received two New York Art Direction awards. In 1971, she was a director for the first company to present video magnification for rock groups entertaining at large venues and in 1972, she became a director for the first rock show on late night television titled In Concert. In 1973, she stopped directing TV to co-manage the band Grand Funk Railroad. In 1976 Goldsmith left management to focus on a career as a photographer and founded a photo agency that licensed her work and others to publications across the globe. By the early 80's she expanded her creativity as 'Will Powers', and wrote and produced the album Dancing For Mental Health. Working with noted musicians Sting, Steve Winwood, Todd Rundgren and Nile Rodgers, the album won critical acclaim. In 2016 a lawsuit was brought against her by the Andy Warhol Foundation for her studio portrait of Prince. For seven years she fought to protect her copyright, and that of all artists, to their work. The legal battle went to the Supreme Court, and 2023, she won a 7-2 victory. Zach Zucker Talks Survivor 50 Today, Rob Cesternino teams up with comedian and Survivor superfan Zach Zucker to recap all the action from the latest episode. With the season hitting its halfway point, Rob and Zach dig into the ever-changing alliances, bold idol plays, and the unique power of alter egos shaping the strategies of returning veterans and rising stars. This episode features sharp analysis and plenty of laughs as the duo unpacks the drama and chaos of Survivor's landmark 50th season. Rob and Zach spotlight how returning players bring standout personas into the game—for example, Cirie slipping back into her “gangster in an Oprah suit” mode, Ozzy reinventing himself as “Oscar,” and Coach claiming his “Coach 4.0” identity. A highlight is Rizo's evolution into “Rizgod,” using big confessionals and social savvy to build trust with Survivor legends. They discuss tribe splits, unpredictable vote outcomes, and how larger groups open up possibilities for wild blindsides, drawing comparisons to the dynamic gameplay of Australian Survivor. The conversation also explores Genevieve's impressive transition from a wounded first-timer to a confident competitor, alongside the psychology of how eager, driven players can intimidate their tribemates at camp. – The return of iconic personas: Cirie, Ozzy (“Oscar”), Coach (“Coach 4.0”) – Rizo's rise as “Rizgod” and his impact on this season's alliances – The role of hunger and ambition in making players targets at Tribal Council – Genevieve's strategic comeback and how second chances shift gameplay – Tribe size debates: how big groups create more chaos and unpredictable voting Rob and Zach ponder whether bold alter egos like Rizo's will last, and if Survivor 50 is truly passing the torch to a new generation of legends. The House Judiciary Committee wants to change the US Attorney statute to say what Attorney General Bondi claimed it did in court. And Sam Bankman-Fried finds new ways to piss off judges and be sooooo weird, this time with help from his mom.MAIN SHOW:The DOJ settled a bogus lawsuit filed by former national security advisor Mike Flynn. Bill Eddy has authored more than 20 books on high‑conflict personalities and disputes. He wants Americans, and societies everywhere, to keep a simple mantra in mind: “fantasy crisis, fantasy villain, fantasy hero with fantasy solutions.” Whenever we encounter another wave of chaos from the Trump administration or any potentially abusive elected official, this phrase helps us recognize the manufactured narratives at play. It highlights the endless cycle of contrived trauma spun by those in power, while also providing a mental shield against the constant barrage of fear, anger, intimidation, and hidden agendas driven by money or power. Bill is a therapist, lawyer, and mediator, and he serves as co‑founder and Chief Innovation Officer of the High Conflict Institute. The institute's mission is to make “high‑conflict behavior manageable—even when it feels impossible.” Their “About” page explains that they “equip professionals with proven skills to navigate high‑conflict behaviors in any setting—confidently, ethically, and effectively.” Bill has also created practical tools such as the CARS Method®, BIFF Response®, EAR Statements™, and the New Ways® series, which are used to train others to regain control in high‑conflict situations. The Importance of Focused and Refined Messaging in Politics Bill understands how powerful words, repeated phrases, and tightly crafted messages can be in countering high‑conflict personalities such as narcissists and sociopaths. He argues that the Democratic Party must coordinate and sharpen its messaging to confront Trump. “What I find is Democratic politicians have hundreds of ideas, hundreds of words, but they haven't settled on anything repetitive,” he said, “and that's where we get into what we both talk about is the emotional mind.” Bill notes that Trump excels at creating short, memorable slogans that stick in voters' minds. “You target the emotional mind with these really short, you know, build the wall, send them back, those kinds of phrases, and the Democrats are saying similar stuff, but all different words,” Bill explained. I asked Bill to discuss some of the basic rules in dealing with narcissistic personalities in conflict situations. He noted that trying to give them insight into their behavior often doesn't help. Neither does focusing on the past. “You'll never agree on the past. You'll just argue forever about the past, because they may be totally committed to something that you can totally show as false, but they're locked into that,” he said' We discussed Trump's obsession with the 2020 election results and his focus on rewriting past history so that he has a win, for instance. Lastly, Bill advised against name-calling or attempting to confront the narcissist on their emotions. Bill then focused on what we should be using, like the CARS Method® “C for connecting A, for analyzing, R, for responding as for setting limits” or using EAR Statements™ where E is for Empathy, A is for Analyzing and R is for Respect. He gave an example, “So if somebody's angry and they're pointing a finger at you, and they're saying, ‘Bill, you're an idiot, and you don't know what you're talking about,' then I would say, ‘Wow, well, I can hear you're really upset. Let's look at what we can do here. Let's analyze what's going on, what we can do here.'” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

You might be working on your bone density, but are you training your balance in the right way to prevent falls and fractures?  Today, I'm talking about something that determines whether we stay independent and fracture-free as we age: balance. Yes, bone density matters, but preventing falls is what really protects us. I walk you through the three essential types of balance training. I also dive into dual tasking and why this strengthens the brain-body connection while improving reaction time and coordination. This should not be confused with multitasking, which is known to increase fall risk. And finally, I share something most people overlook: toe strength. Research shows that toe strength is one of the strongest predictors of falls, and I explain how to improve it. Balance might decline as you age, but with simple daily practice, you can maintain and even improve it.   "Toe strength was the single most predictor of falls, and each 1% increase in force under the big toe reduced fall risk by 7%." ~ Margie Bissinger   In this episode: - [01:30] - Static balance training (single leg, tandem stance) - [02:38] - Dynamic static balance and weight shifting - [04:51] - Dynamic moving balance and obstacle practice - [06:39] - Dual tasking vs. multitasking - [09:57] - Toe strength and fall prevention research - [11:54] - How to safely progress balance training   Resources - Fullscript Supplements at a Discounted Price - https://tinyurl.com/supplementsforless - Margie's Membership (includes all of these classes) at $29/month - https://www.happyboneshappylife.com/bones-club - Free Osteoporosis Exercises to Prevent Fractures and Strengthen Your Bones - http://tinyurl.com/osteoporosisexercises  - Balance Classes: 1.
