In this episode we have part 2 of our interview with Gerry DeFilippo, owner of Challenger Strength. We pick up where we left off with Gerry getting into how he started his business and how he operates Challenger Strength, then we get into the weeds with the intricacies of strength & speed training for baseball. +We discuss how the 60 yard dash is a poor measure of "baseball speed". +Gerry gives his insight on a sample workout plan for high school athletes. +Finally, Gerry ends this with some tips on how to get an edge when you are running the 60 at showcases. In part one (episode #110) Gerry told his story of an uneasy path through college baseball and how it ultimately allowed him to find his true passion in strength & conditioning. If you haven't had a chance to listen to that, I suggest going back and doing so. There are some great takeaways to apply to the recruiting process in that episode. Finding the right school is about so much more than baseball. Hear a real recruiting story about how an uneasy path lead to the right future. This is our first 2 part episode on Recruiting Class. The reason being, my guest and I discuss 2 very different topics and both have tremendous value to the recruiting process. My guest is Gerry DeFilippo. Gerry is the Owner of Challenger Strength out of New Jersey, but before he became a successful strength & speed coach, Gerry was a college baseball player. Gerry also happened to be a guy that I recruited when I was coaching at Babson College. Gerry's story is outstanding and it's not because he got some D1 scholarship, was an all American and went on to pro baseball. Gerry's story is outstanding because his baseball experience wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, and rather than hanging his head, he took it upon himself to make the most out of his college experience and turn that into a business where he helps influence young men and women through training their strength and speed. This is such a great story because it's REAL. Gerry was nice enough to open up to us about his experience and personally I'm very proud of what he is doing now and I think you'll understand why when you hear Gerry talk about his passion for what he does and how he got there. Part 1 is about Gerry's story, and in part 2 we discuss strength & speed training in baseball, why the 60 yard dash is a stupid measurement of baseball speed, and a few tips on how to improve on your 60 time. In this episode we have a conversation with Mike Just. Mike is a baseball lifer, working his way from high school baseball, to college baseball, to independent league, to pro ball, back to independent league, now to running a business around baseball. He's literally done it all in the baseball world. Today we discuss Mike's uncommon path to pro baseball and how it influenced what he does today. We also dig into the importance of improving your skillset, when improvement is more important than exposure, why players fail to improve, and we even get into some hitting philosophy. This episode is full of great info. If you'd like to get in touch with Mike and learn more about Just Hits, please visit www.justhitsllc.com
