From the responsorial psalm: “You are a priest for ever, in the line of Melchizedek. The LORD said to my Lord: 'Sit at my right hand till I make your enemies your footstool.'" A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (Mark 2:18-22) Jesus answered them, "Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day." A day after we hear John's account of the Wedding at Cana, today's Gospel again presents Jesus as the bridegroom who delights in the guests at the wedding banquet. As long as Jesus is physically present, joy and fulfillment are given in abundance. But a time will come when he is "taken way" during his passion and death; then there will be fasting in the sorrow of his absence. The two parables Jesus shares—the new patch on the old garment and new wine poured into old wineskins—illustrate the new reality Jesus brings in his presence. The New Covenant cannot simply be imposed on or confined by the ways of the old covenant. The joy of the New Covenant is in Christ himself and the Church he establishes through perfect obedience to the Father. God, help me participate fully in the joy and new life Jesus brings as your bridegroom. Strengthen my faith, especially in times of sorrow and guide me to live in the fullness of joy that comes from following Jesus Christ your Son. As Saint Paul says, "Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered; and when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him." By his example and through your grace, guide me in knowing and doing your will. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

As the leadership will be taken away from Judah, so will all the luxuries of life, for the LORD will bring destruction and exile. Yet all hope is not lost; the LORD promises that He will not forget His righteous remnant, even as He has not forgotten us through His Son, Jesus.  Rev. Hebrews 10:3-4 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. The repeated sacrifice at Passover each year of bulls and goats was to serve as a reminder that a perfect sacrifice was coming, which could make the worshippers perfect in conscience. The point was made in that after making the sacrifices, they were still aware of their sins and their sinful dispositions. Remember, the old covenant offered no grace to the worshippers to fulfill the Law's requirements. The Law teaches us what sin is, how powerful sin is, and how helpless we are to justify ourselves. It reminds us of our sinfulness rather than taking away sins.  Let me put living to love with Jesus in perspective to encourage us. If you are living to love with Jesus and you experience His love pouring through your life, then that means you have the Holy Spirit, the life of Christ, dwelling within you. The Holy Spirit is the seal and assurance that God has removed your sins through the death of Jesus Christ, His Son. Living to love isn't the source of our assurance. It is the assurance that our lives are hidden in Jesus, and He is the source of our lives and love. Just as it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins, so is any other action rooted only in ourselves.  Love flows out of a heart abiding in Jesus. A heart abiding in Jesus is the work of the Spirit that proves God has taken away all of our sins, once for all, through Jesus' sacrifice. May we, by the grace found in Jesus Christ, love and serve the living God.

When Storms Hit: Trust in the Captain!    In this episode of The Patrick Madrid Show, Patrick addresses a heartfelt dilemma from a devout Catholic listener. She's torn between her love for the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) and her discomfort with the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) community near her.   Listener's Dilemma:   Raised Catholic: Deeply committed to her faith.   SSPX Parish Nearby: Feels uneasy about their anti-Pope stance.   Love for TLM: Finds the Traditional Latin Mass profoundly beautiful.   Valid Mass: Believes the new Mass is valid and respects those who attend it.   Deep Dive: Understanding SSPX   If you're unfamiliar with SSPX, Patrick will tell you more about it and how it came about. The Society of St. Pius X was founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in the mid-20th century. Lefebvre, a French-speaking bishop, was dedicated to the traditional liturgy and established a seminary in Switzerland. He upheld the traditional Latin Mass even after Vatican II introduced the Novus Ordo Mass.   Key Points:   Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre: Missionary work in Africa; founder of SSPX.   SSPX and Vatican II: Opposition to the changes introduced by Vatican II's Sacrosanctum Concilium.   Consecration Controversy: Lefebvre's unauthorized consecration of four bishops in 1988 led to excommunication by St. Pope John Paul II.   Current Status: Excommunications lifted by Pope Benedict XVI, but SSPX remains in a complex canonical status. There's still a lot of confusion, unfortunately.   The Ongoing Debate:   Schism or Not? Canon lawyers and church authorities debate SSPX's official standing.   Confession Faculties: Pope Francis granted SSPX priests faculties to hear confessions.   Flourishing Independently: Despite the controversies, SSPX has grown with numerous chapels and vocations.   Patrick's Insights:   Affirming Validity: The new Mass is valid. Even SSPX adherents should recognize this, despite their criticisms.   Current Restrictions: Acknowledge the restrictions on TLM but maintain peace and trust in Jesus.   Biblical Wisdom: Patrick draws a parallel with Mark 4:35-41, where Jesus calms the storm while the apostles panic.   Advice for the Journey:   Stay Calm: Don't let the fear overwhelm your faith.   Trust in Jesus: He guides the Church through all storms.   Remain Loyal: Stay faithful to the Church and avoid fringe groups.   Pray and Hope: Things will improve with time.   Reflection Passage: Mark 4:35-41: Reflect on Jesus calming the storm and trust in His leadership through turbulent times.   Inspiring Hymn:   Stabat Mater Dolorosa: A beautiful reminder of standing faithfully at the foot of the cross, just like Our Lady.   Final Encouragement: Stay the course, remain Catholic, and trust in Jesus. Authorities in Tampa, Florida say three people are dead and a deputy is injured after a shooting over Father's Day weekend. Christos Themelis Jr. allegedly shot and killed his father, Christos Themelis Sr. inside their home, then held his mother, Rebecca Ann Themelis, at gunpoint as deputies tried to talk him down.
