Though they are captured temporarily, they are able to make a smooth getaway by distracting the guard and disarming him. They run off and continue their search, eventually finding a strange room. The floor is etched with runes and constellations, a large brazier in the center of the room. At the edge of the room is a locked door.Meanwhile, Trix is escorted to their grandfather's bedchamber, where the Emperor awaits near a desk that's situated at the center of the room. He beckons Trix closer and they notice that he's looking at a large tome that is openly on display. Across the pages are names and dates, all the handwriting appears very different. The Emperor tells Trix that the tome is their lineage, and asks Trix to sign. When Trix agrees, the Emperor hands them a dagger, an ink bottle and a quill. An agreement of blood and ink. Signature made, Trix is allowed to return to their chambers and get some rest.Floating in limbo, Rou has been able to watch everything, and struggles to call out to Trix during the ritual. Realizing he can't talk to Trix, he takes a closer look at his surroundings and notices he's trapped in a hazy force field, almost a barrier. He notices that something has caused wear and tear, and the barrier is weak in spots. Rou uses this weakness to his advantage and begins to inch closer toward the dagger made from his tooth.Follow Dax @gmdax, Kappa @TheKappaChris, Sebastian @sebastianyue and Wren @ThornyDryad EPISODE CREDITS: Produced by DaxOpening theme music, editing and mixing by WrenLogo Artwork design by JessieCharacter Artwork design by RiyuskiSegment music and sound effects licensed through Epidemic SoundLINKS:Be sure to follow and tag Roads Uncharted on Bluesky!

Trix dangles from the window ledge, nearly falling to their death, when they realize a patch of sky seems to be missing. The shadow moves and is revealed to be the dragon Faerlin warned the group about. She snatches Trix and carries them up to the roof of the stronghold. As she climbs, Trix tries to escape her grasp but there is a thin mucous substance that prevents them from getting good traction. Meanwhile, Raspy leads Eight from their cell, through the fortress and down to a “purification chamber” where four cultists stand on opposite walls. On a platform, in the center, lies the body of Rou. Eight is forced to come to terms with the reality of The Dragon's words, and their anger is stirred. Before leaving Eight alone, Raspy removes Eight's manacles, claiming the cultists did this to Rou. Once the door shuts, the cultists draw in closer.Lunahse has come to defend Rou from Death's deal: give up your werewolf form and you can return to your friends. Rou at first is comforted, but quickly feels very small when the gods begin to argue over his soul. Lunahse offers Death a deal on Rou's behalf, which Death seems keen to take. Rou finds he's running in the woods, a raven flying at his right side. Given that wolves and ravens have been allies in his experience, he follows the raven to a patch of woods. The raven, perched on a large rock, shifts into the form of a woman wearing a silver pendant in the shape of a raven's head. Out of the shadows appears a form draped in black robes, face covered by an ivory mask. The woman leaves and, when he realizes he's about to deal with Death itself, Rou begins bargaining for his return. Trix is given a bath and some of their wounds healed by the Emperor's servants. While enjoying a hot meal in their private quarters, they're visited by the Emperor. He asks Trix about their actions at the outpost, and whether or not they plan to be useful and truly cooperative. Trix tries to bargain for Rou and Eight but the Emperor is dismissive, and tells Trix that they have until dawn to decide if they're going to take on the role he has in store for them, or pay the consequences for their choices like their uncle once did. When the Emperor leaves, Trix attempts to escape through the window. Eight awakens in their cell again, this time the manacles holding them are enchanted to prevent them from casting spells. As they ponder their situation, they are visited by the tattooed stranger who claims they have no name. Eight nicknames them “Raspy” because of their voice. Weakened from blood loss, they nearly fall off the rafter from the effort of the attack. Erdir reveals he doesn't trust them, even though the Emperor does, and says he'll spare their life if they join him. Trix climbs down to check on their companions, finding Rou has not survived the fight. Trix turns to Eight, finding them unresponsive as well, though revivable. When Erdir threatens to reveal Trix's plans regarding the Emperor, they whisper to Eight that they have a plan before agreeing to cooperate. Later, Eight wakes up in a dark, dank dungeon cell. They find they're chained to the wall and all alone. Realizing the chains and manacles aren't enchanted, they use their magic to free themself. They receive a visit from Erdir, who boasts that Trix has betrayed them and Rou has died. A plate of food is deposited into the cell and, in a moment of defiance, Eight throws the plate at the window. The splatter misses its mark, but The Dragon merely smirks and leaves. With the alarm ringing through the fortress, the group makes a dash for the barracks. On their way, they're nearly caught by guards rushing down the hallway past their hiding spot. The alarm eventually shuts off and the party continues on toward the barracks. Faerlin has convinced the guards to drop their weapons under the guise of a “training exercise”, so Eight takes Jimothy and Bessie down to the stables where they should be safe from harm. While they're gone, Rou unintentionally undermines Faerlin's deception when he reveals he and the others have not been hired for any purpose, training or otherwise. Realizing the reality of the situation, one of the guards tackles Rou. Eight returns to find Trix and Rou battling the guards and Faerlin merely standing off to the side, watching. They gasp, draw their weapon and point it at Faerlin as they accuse him of luring them here under false pretenses. Eight casts a spell to draw Faerlin closer and forces them to lay belly flat on the floor, holding them while Rou and Trix deal with the guards. Eventually the spell ends and Faerlin stands, their eyes pleading with Eight and finally turning to anger. In an attempt to reveal no ill will, Faerlin tosses a dagger at a guard attempting to escape while Trix tries to convince them that Faerlin is on their side. Eight gives in a bit, agreeing to help Trix and Rou but announces to Faerlin they won't forget what happened. Looking around the room, Rou notices that there is a large chandelier above and cuts the rope to try and trap their potential captors. One guard is trapped by the chandelier, leaving Rou and Eight to engage the remaining guards in combat. Trix and Faerlin soon round the corner and Trix immediately joins in on the fight. As the party watches the guards march from the fortress below, they discuss their plans for infiltration. Faerlin offers a few options: directly up the treacherous path to the front door, through the servant's entrance, or a secret passageway around the back. All options have their benefits and risks, but none seem the obvious best choice. Deciding it would be best to consider their options while they make their way down, the group attempts to avoid the guards' gaze. However, Jimothy halts suddenly and causes Eight to lose their footing. Chunks of rock tumble down the side of the cliff, soon followed by the sound of a trumpet. Eight quickly reacts and summons an illusory mountain goat in the hope of disguising the true source of the rockfall. They notice that the doors of the fortress open again, revealing a second contingent of guards heading down the path. Feeling they've avoided being spotted for now, they quicken their pace. Deciding to split up, Faerlin provides a rough sketch of the interior to Rou and Eight, who will be heading the back way near the guards' barracks while Faerlin and Trix head through the front. The two groups make their way in, albeit with mixed results. However, he is able to slide down more gracefully and avoid falling into the large pile at the base of the trap. With Tindal gone, Faerlin begins to search for the hidden door within the stone column. Rou and Eight help in the search while Trix is forced to rest and work on bandaging their wounds. Realizing they could make this easier, Eight summons a little dust devil construct to help search and they name it “Back Door Friend”. Meanwhile, Rou climbs up the column to see if there is anything at the top. When he arrives, he finds an abandoned bird nest and takes a moment to admire the view before heading back down.Back Door Friend finds a hidden crevice and slips into it, removing the blockage to reveal a key. Realizing they can finally help, Trix slowly makes their way over and is able to pick the lock. The column shakes and a door slides sideways to reveal a passageway down. The group makes their way down, abandoning the busted cart, and eventually encounters a series of murals. It doesn't take them long to figure out the secret to opening them, and two murals pop open to reveal a larger, still dark, passageway. Feeling confident, they continue forward. The creature chasing Trix and Faerlin has revealed itself to be a giant worm with sharp teeth. As the group engages, they realize that it's a little hardier than a worm should be and its strikes are even deadlier. It takes the first opportunity to chomp down, enclosing Trix in its jaws. The group gives the creature everything they have as they try to take it down and eventually are successful. The group has finally reached the end of the Cragsward Mountain range after a week of travel. Seeing their goal off in the distance, Faerlin pushes the group a little further before suggesting a short break since it'll be another full day's travel before they reach the rock that looks like a bird's skull. Unfortunately, they find their water supplies are gone. Eight is able to conjure water but the sound of it trickling sends Faerlin off into the desert. When Trix goes to look for them, they find he's in a sandy pit pulling fruit off a strange green plant. Trix climbs down to assist and when the pair try to leave they discover that something is under the sand. They make a run for it, but the thing chases after them. With the scorpions vanquished, the group takes a moment to collect their thoughts. Faerlin is adamant about apologizing to Trix for missing his shot, despite their assurance that they're not mad. Regi helps Rou carry Eight closer to camp, and the pair work to restore the unconscious construct. Once that is taken care of, Regi turns his sights on Trix and reveals how shocked they are about Trix's true identity.Trix admits their relation to the old Emperor, and even shares their true goal of assassinating him. Regi very bluntly points out that chasing the Emperor with little to no equipment, and no money, is a poor decision and admonishes Trix for their lack of planning. Regi and Trix then begin to argue about money, including Faerlin's compensation as well as Regi's, which goes nowhere. As the ship continues to burn and crumble on the mountainside, Trix introduces Regi to the rest of their current group. In turn, Regi reveals that the mayor from Sparrow's Landing has put out an open contract for their deaths. He tells them that while she doesn't plan to go through with the contract now, they warn them that if he doesn't do something the contract will remain open and will have to deal with worse foes down the road. Eight offers to give him their finger as “proof”, but the party decides they have some time to work out a plan as Regi will need to accompany them for a while before they can leave the desert. The party, plus Regi, set up camp for the evening. Eight uses some magic to repair most of the damage to the cart before getting instructions on sleeping from Regi. Seeing their excitement to try it out, the rest of the group divides into pairs for watch. Trix and Regi take the first watch, and use the time to catch up on what they've been up to since they parted ways. After gathering some new supplies, the group begins their trek into the desert. The day is spent following the mountain range, each member of the party prodding Faerlin for details on how to find the hideout. Eventually Faerlin caves, offering up a landmark to look for. Just as they decide to set up camp, the wind begins to blow and a shadow above them blocks out the sun.The shadow is caused by a large metal airship and Trix notices the symbol on the ship belongs to the Bloodbeards, a guild that once rivaled their own Onyx Serpent. A voice calls out, asking if they're coming from Sparrow's Landing. Though Eight confirms this is accurate, Rou and Trix tell them to make a run for it. Despite their best efforts, their escape fails when the ship fires and disables the cart. The fight carries on for some time, Eight Jr making an appearance and Trix blasting the engines. As the fire rages at the outpost, Rou and Trix take a moment to catch Eight up with what they've missed the last week or so. It quickly becomes apparent that, aside from a memory gap, Eight now also is having trouble functioning despite their assurance that they feel fine. Trix comes clean about their history with the Emperor, the group's most recent encounter with The Dragon, and what they did to try and bring Eight back. When they rejoin the group, it's obvious to Indy & Co that Eight is no longer Amara, which prompts Rou and Trix to come clean about what they know regarding their friend's situation. Sierra is less than pleased and is adamant that they can't help the trio now, especially with their equipment and food stores gone. Dassana proposes that perhaps they can keep in touch and regroup when the party is ready to go rescue the children, as they still wish to help with that.Once the fire dies down, the group sifts through the ash and rubble hoping to find some of their equipment. They're able to reclaim some of their goods, but their cash and food stores are lost. When they're ready to part ways, Trix notices Faerlin watching them. The group has cleared the blaze that rages within the cavern. The remaining guards are running around trying to salvage what they can in the enclosed outer areas, but it's only a matter of time before that goes up in flames as well. The group stops in the middle of the chaos to try and bring Eight back to consciousness, unaware of whose personality might arise. As Trix tries to open the paneling, Rou pushes them away at first. Trix pushes forward and begins to examine Eight's darkwood core. They eventually find a series of strange grooves but realize they have no tools. Sierra volunteers to go looking for the cart and their equipment, dragging Indy with her, leaving Rou and Trix to have a moment of privacy. As the pair slowly drag the construct's body along in the search for their belongings, Trix comes clean with their true identity. The conversation is tense, Rou revealing hurt and betrayal at Trix's decision to keep their secret from their friends. The cart is found but the group finds that it has been ransacked, some of their cash and food stores gone along with some minor equipment pieces. As the fire begins to climb along the dry wood fence toward them, Sierra encourages everyone to leave and examine their belongings later. Locked in cells, Amara and Rou quickly realize the mysterious prisoner is one of the Sultan's spies. Their equipment and weapons have been confiscated, although the contents of Amara's gauntlets have been spared. She takes one of the tools out and attempts to pick the lock, but fails. Dassana offers to do the same with one of her hairpins but also finds she is unable to free herself. When the spy, named Anaan, shares that only one guard comes down for feeding time, the group hatches a plan to attack the guard, grab the keys and escape. Meanwhile, Trix continues to clean under Faerlin's watchful gaze. When Trix asks how long he plans to stay, Faerlin admits they're surprised Trix didn't already know. He shares that “The Dragon” often visits all the locations to make sure everything is as it should be and things are progressing according to plan. While Trix infiltrates the outpost and scouts it out, the group is left to await their return in an alcove hidden from view. At first they're happy enough to sit it out and converse, but as time passes they become worried they're waiting too long. Rou suggests they start implementing the next steps and offers up the uniforms they've stashed away. While they're changing, they are ambushed by nearly two dozen outpost guards. Although Amara is ready to fight, Dassana subtly reminds her of the plan by raising her hands in submission. The rest of the party follows suit and are led into the outpost.Meanwhile, Trix's encounter with the servant Adar-Kai gives them an opening for infiltration. Mistaken for an expected servant who has yet to arrive, they play along and give the false name Lorsanan. They are given a bath, fresh attire appropriate to their station and instructions to clean in preparation for “The Dragon's” arrival. She shatters it with her warhammer and insists they must pack and leave immediately.Once they're far enough away, Sierra reveals that the creature is used for spying by the same group that makes the mechanical beasts. Over the next several days, she shares more about her past entanglements with the Order of Tannyth and what she knows of them. Rou and Dassana help Amara clean up the dishes before settling in for the first watch. Amara doesn't officially join, but sits by the fire stoking it while the other two swap stories. Rou learns a little about Dassana's background and how she came to adventure with Indy and Sierra. They bond over talk of magic, past adventures and fears of failure. Overall watch seems to be pretty peaceful and uneventful. Trix and Indy share the next watch. As Trix often does, they begin to ask questions about Indy's past. Where does he come from, what's his experience adventuring been like, and so forth. It doesn't take Trix long to figure out most of Indy's knowledge comes from books, and that he's not everything he seems to be. As Indy offers Trix a spot with their group instead, Trix is left wondering what else he may be hiding. Finally, Amara and Sierra take over. As both agree they prefer silence and to remain out of each other's business, it is nearly an uneventful shift. Trix makes an attempt at dinner but unfortunately is heavy handed with the seasoning, burns the bottom of the pot and adds too much thickener to the stew. Left with a barely palatable, wallpaper paste like stew, the six adventurers struggle through dinner and conversation alike. They've been traveling to try and find some answers before heading into the desert and were attacked while setting up camp.Hearing this, Rou shares what they know about the situation, leaving out their knowledge of the prophecy and the Seven Swords. Indy and Rou decide it's best for them to join up, and despite Amara's attempt to dissuade she only angers Sierra. On their travels, the group runs into some traveling merchants and are able to purchase some paint and fabric. Their cart finally disguised, they carry on with less worry. When they set up for camp that night, they hear the sounds of fighting in the forest behind them. Curious as to the source, Rou and Trix sneak off to get a good look while Amara stays behind to tend the fire. They're mostly successful in sneaking up on the source, which they find to be a trio of adventurers, with their dog, fighting a dragon. However, when their faces are lit up by a gout of flame the dragon spots them. The Dwarf in the group throws something explosive at the dragon, which keeps its attention from Rou and Trix. Thinking the trio could use some help, Rou joins in by lighting his sword and trying to kite the dragon. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well as he'd hoped. Eventually, the flooding ends and the group is left with a sopping wet, muddy road. Near midnight, they spy a few buildings off in the distance. Rou asks if Amara is feeling any exhaustion, since Eight never did and always kept watch. It is revealed that Amara is similar to Eight in that she feels no need for sleep or food. They offer to catalog the gear while the other two rest. They follow a pathway up to the nearest structure and realize it's a home, and the rest of the structures are barns and sheds. As they draw close the door opens and the farmer confronts them, but Trix is able to convince the farmer to let them stay rather than continue on the road toward the Greywater Inn a few hours south. While eating, they strike up a conversation with a nearby family of Gnomes who share that they're headed to Duskhollow to see the sights. As the conversation comes to an end, Trix spies a suspicious looking individual in the crowd. However, it's an announcement from the door of the inn that is more concerning. The guard has drawn a strange weapon on the party, and attempts to take control of the situation by firing it into the air. A loud bang echoes and the guard levels the weapon at the closest to him, which is Rou. Trix shoots an arrow to disarm the guard, but unfortunately he gets a shot off and hits Rou before dropping the weapon.Once Eight confirms Rou is not fatally wounded, they level their spoon and their spell forces the guard farther away from the mysterious weapon. As the guard is shoved forward, Rou shoots out an arm and catches him below his jaw. The guard is knocked over and seems to surrender once he sits up, his hands lacing behind his head. Eight demands the guard take his companion and leave, and despite Trix's disapproval the guard leaves as instructed. The group attends to Rou's wound, and when they inspect the weapon they determine it's the newest form of technology on Baukora - a gun. Free from the threat of the guard, the party turns their attention to the young boy. While impressed by how they handled the guard, he is skeptical of them but follows Trix back to Eight and Rou. It eventually dawns on Eight and Rou that this boy might be their biggest lead to date.Thank you to Magic Mind for sponsoring this episode: if you'd like to try it, then go to http://www.magicmind.com/roadsuncharted and use my code DAXARA20 for 20% off your order!
