This week Kristin and I sit down with Matthew Zachary and Jen Singer, two cancer survivors who between them have basically seen every corner of the American healthcare system and lived to write a book about it. Matt founded Stupid Cancer, the organization that essentially created the young adult cancer advocacy space out of nothing back in 2007, and I can personally attest to how much that work has meant to people like me. Jen's journey started with her own aggressive lymphoma diagnosis and years of side effects that followed her long after she was declared "cancer-free." Together they wrote We The Patients: Understanding, Navigating, and Surviving America's Healthcare Nightmare, and we get into all of it: the history of how we got here, why claim denials are basically a business model, and why so few people ever bother to appeal. What I loved about this conversation is that it's somehow both infuriating and genuinely funny, which is exactly what Matt and Jen were going for with the book. We talk about the idea of patients organizing as a political voting bloc the way the NRA does, why transparency (or the total lack of it) is doing so much damage, and why blaming doctors is often just a distraction from the real problem upstream. We also cover some lighter stuff, how Matt and Jen actually met, whether writing a book together nearly ended their friendship, and yes, I finally got to answer where the name Jimothy came from.  Takeaways: Matt Zachary founded Stupid Cancer in 2007, effectively creating the young adult cancer advocacy space that didn't exist before him. Only about 2% of insurance claim denials are ever appealed, even though roughly 80% of appeals eventually get overturned. Jen Singer's aggressive lymphoma went undiagnosed for eight months because her symptoms were dismissed as normal fatigue from being a busy mom. Matt and Jen argue that healthcare denial and delay isn't a system failure, it's the business model working exactly as designed. They believe patients need to organize as a political voting bloc, similar to how the NRA operates, to force real legislative change. — Want more Matthew Zachary and Jen Singer? @TheMatthewZachary @justdxguides https://wethepatients.org To Get Tickets to Wife & Death: You can visit Glaucomflecken.com/live  We want to hear YOUR stories (and medical puns)! This episode starts with stormy weather and surprisingly good moods before spiraling into one of those classic Rizz Show conversations where absolutely nothing stays on the rails. One minute everyone's discussing thunderstorms, Jason Sklar stopping by the show, and preparations for Rizz's upcoming birthday celebration. The next minute, an unexpected study claims that 47 is the happiest age of your life, immediately putting Rizz under the microscope as the crew debates whether he's actually become a happier human being over the years. That naturally leads to a full-on birthday debate. Are you someone who celebrates for an entire week with parties, brunches, vacations, and enough cake to feed a small town? Or are you the type who hopes nobody notices your birthday at all? The crew dives into the psychology behind birthday people versus birthday avoiders, sharing stories about how their own families handled birthdays growing up and how the show's attitude toward celebrating has completely changed over the years.Along the way, they confess the embarrassing things they learned way too late in life. From believing Elton John was blind because of his sunglasses to confusing Jimmy Buffett with Warren Buffett, nobody escapes the roast. Lauren admits her biggest regret is never paying attention in history class, while everyone else piles on with stories that somehow become even more ridiculous. Then it's time for one of the greatest grocery store discussions ever recorded. Boomers' biggest complaints about modern shopping somehow evolve into a business pitch involving off-road grocery carts, dune buggies with shopping baskets, lift kits for grabbing cereal off the top shelf, Bluetooth speakers, themed vehicles, and of course, an extensive update on the latest developments in Uncrustables technology. Yes... refrigerated Uncrustables become breaking news. Yes... everyone takes it completely seriously. The chaos keeps rolling with questionable life advice passed down from older generations, hilarious family sayings that somehow stuck forever, and a continuation of yesterday's impossible moral dilemma involving crimes, saving dogs, and making the world a better place in the weirdest ways imaginable.Later, the conversation turns surprisingly wholesome as the crew discusses new research into helping dogs live healthier, longer lives. Would you pay thousands of dollars for a few more healthy years with your best friend? Everyone has a different answer, and the discussion gets unexpectedly heartfelt before immediately swerving back into shark attacks, dangerous animals across America, and why Missouri's deadliest creature isn't nearly as exciting as you'd hope.As always, the conversation refuses to stay in one lane for more than a few minutes. That's exactly what makes this daily comedy show feel like you're hanging out with friends who accidentally turn every headline into an hour of laughs, random tangents, and conversations nobody saw coming.Whether you're here for birthday debates, grocery store adventures, ridiculous hypotheticals, weird news, celebrity mentions, or the latest in frozen sandwich innovation, Episode 49 delivers another unpredictable ride from The Rizzuto Show.Sometimes the show writes itself... and sometimes history, celebrity news, and complete nonsense all decide to show up at the exact same time.On today's episode of The Rizzuto Show, the crew kicks things off with "This Day in History," featuring everything from the first electric chair execution to the anniversary of the Enola Gay mission, classic Beatles releases, MTV nostalgia, Pineapple Express, Hamilton, and a whole lot more. It's somehow educational... if your history teacher had severe ADHD.The crew also takes a heartfelt moment to remember St. Louis jewelry legend John Reusch, whose impact stretched far beyond engagement rings. Rizz and Moon share personal stories about what made him such a special part of so many families' biggest moments, making this one of the most genuine conversations you'll hear on the show. Then it's back to the chaos.Lern brings a stacked edition of Crap on Celebrities featuring Weezer's newest single, the unexpected return of the New Radicals after decades away, Queens of the Stone Age inviting fans to literally call and complain, Deftones climbing the charts again thanks to Netflix, and a surprisingly honest conversation about Whoopi Goldberg's massive paycheck from The View.Things only get weirder from there. The crew dives into the upcoming O.J. Simpson documentary that explores the bizarre hidden-camera prank show that almost became something entirely different. They somehow spiral into discussing obscure cult movies like Gentlemen Broncos, reality TV addictions, BMW dashboards serving advertisements, Charlie Sheen's brand-new podcast, and whether anyone actually wants more access to the show via a complaint hotline.Naturally, the episode wraps the only way The Rizzuto Show knows how—with celebrity birthdays, one of the most ridiculous porno birthdays ever, and enough sarcasm to keep everyone employed another day.If you love ridiculous conversations that somehow mix heartfelt moments with celebrity nonsense, weird news, music, movies, and pop culture, you've found your people. This daily comedy show delivers everything from celebrity gossip to bizarre history lessons, random rabbit holes, and the kind of conversations that somehow make perfect sense before 10 a.m.Whether you're listening on the drive to work, pretending to work, or hiding from responsibilities altogether, thanks for hanging out with The Rizzuto Show, your favorite daily comedy show and home for unpredictable conversations, St. Louis humor, and the kind of comedy that absolutely shouldn't work... but somehow always does.If today's episode made you laugh, share it with a friend who also appreciates complete conversational whiplash. An unexpectedly wholesome note with stories that restore your faith in humanity. A Wisconsin man hands over the keys to his SUV so a stranded rock band can finish its tour. A father and son complete an entire year of playing catch every single day. A tiny Chihuahua's strange habit helps detect a dangerous illness before it's too late. It's the kind of start that makes you think everyone on the show is about to become better people. That feeling doesn't last long. The crew immediately launches into another round of the legendary Bean Boozled "Good or Gross" game, where listeners win concert tickets while the show risks tasting everything from rotten eggs and boogers to barf, toothpaste, dirty dishwater and dead fish. Somehow, against all odds, this becomes one of the luckiest rounds they've ever played... although luck is a relative term when toothpaste counts as a win.The conversation only gets weirder from there. How much money would you need before willingly giving up inches of your height forever? Would you become Danny DeVito-sized for a million dollars? Would you sacrifice ten inches for fifty million? The crew debates every ridiculous scenario while discovering everyone values their height a little differently. Then things unexpectedly get surprisingly honest when listener emails spark a conversation about saying "I love you" first in a relationship. How long is too long to wait for someone to say it back? What happens if they never do? One listener's real-life story turns into one of the more thoughtful discussions of the episode before everyone quickly returns to making fun of each other.Listener emails also inspire debates about fake email addresses for stores that insist on collecting your information, why prescription medications deserve cooler superhero names, and whether our parents' inability to throw anything away is simply leftover survival instinct passed down through generations.Like every daily comedy podcast, the episode bounces effortlessly between heartfelt stories, ridiculous games, bizarre hypotheticals, listener interaction and nonstop sarcastic commentary that somehow keeps the entire morning moving.Whether you're here for the disgusting Bean Boozled reactions, the hilarious debates, the weird listener emails or simply looking for your next daily comedy podcast, Episode 158 delivers another completely unpredictable morning with The Rizzuto Show. If your favorite kind of entertainment is watching grown adults argue about shrinking themselves for millions of dollars while trying not to throw up from jelly beans that taste like fish, congratulations—you've found your people.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.Why 47 is the age you hit peak happiness, according to sciencePeople Are Sharing The One Thing They Learned Way Late In Life, And It's Hilariously RelatableUncrustables Just Made A Big Change That PB&J People Will AppreciateWild list shows which animal is most likely to kill you based on the state you live inMillennials Are Sharing The Worst Advice They've Ever Received From Boomers And My Mouth Is AgapeSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

International hit-maker KT Tunstall wasn't sure what to do when she woke-up mid-tour to discover she had lost her hearing and had vertigo. Soon after she turned to her brother for support. He has been deaf his whole life, and jokingly told her he would “take out his tiny violin” for her which, she says, helped to put her hearing loss into perspective.KT's hearing loss remains. The Scottish singer-songwriter is back with a theatre show called The Singer which she wrote the music for. It charts the friendship between a D/deaf performer and a hearing musician, focusing on the bass and the beat so D/deaf audiences can enjoy it too.Hands up if you rely on holiday clubs and camps to get your kids through the summer holidays? Three recent reports have highlighted parents of disabled children often don't have this as an option. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) is telling Senate leadership to cancel the August break and stay on the floor as long as it takes to pass the SAVE America Act. Sens. Rick Scott (Fla.) and John Kennedy (La.) have now backed him up. The bill requires documentary proof of citizenship to register and a real photo ID to vote. That's it: commonsense election integrity that every American understands. Yet Democrats are united against it, and a handful of Republicans keep blocking it. Leadership says there's “not enough time” and “not enough votes.” Lee's response? Object to the recess and force a roll-call vote. With the midterms roughly 100 days away, this is the last realistic window to lock in basic safeguards before another election cycle. Some episodes are impossible to explain to someone who has never heard The Rizzuto Show. This is definitely one of those. The gang kicks things off celebrating birthdays and Bags Against the Machine before diving headfirst into another legendary edition of the E-Memorials. First up, Riz officially says goodbye to the now-famous uterus "dangler" that he proudly wore for charity all week, and the crew imagines the life-changing emotional growth that came with wearing it. Apparently throw pillows, Pinterest boards, and understanding feelings are all side effects nobody warned him about. Then things somehow get even stranger. The crew unveils a completely fictional—but suspiciously convincing—documentary chronicling the tragic downfall of the Kool-Aid Man. Between orthopedic injuries from smashing through walls, devastating lawsuits, losing custody of Sharkleberry Finn, and eventually contracting the terminal illness known only as "Kool-Aids," it's one of the dumbest things we've ever committed to... which also makes it one of our favorites.Meanwhile, Riz's weekend at Lake of the Ozarks becomes the target of an all-out roast as his immune system is honored in memoriam after surviving questionable water, inflatable tubing, and enough bacteria to qualify as a biological experiment. And then there's Jimothy. The internet-famous raccoon with short spine syndrome officially becomes the hottest fashion icon of the summer as the crew imagines luxury fashion houses redesigning entire collections around his unique look. Somehow Balenciaga, Vogue, and woodland couture all collide into one ridiculous segment that proves absolutely nothing is safe once The Rizzuto Show gets hold of it.You'll also hear celebrity news, real memorials, pop culture commentary, weird internet rabbit holes, and the kind of sarcastic conversations that somehow only make sense after you've listened for a while.Whether you've been listening for years or you're discovering us for the first time, this daily comedy episode is packed with the ridiculous chemistry, quick improvisation, and nonstop laughs that have made The Rizzuto Show a favorite for comedy fans. If you enjoy a daily comedy podcast that treats every bizarre headline like an opportunity to create an entire cinematic universe, you've found your people. Thanks for hanging out with us. We appreciate every download, every share, every laugh, and every person willing to explain to friends why they're listening to a serious documentary about the Kool-Aid Man.We'll keep bringing the weird.Because that's what daily comedy should be.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What do a dangling uterus earring, Fireball sneakers, Jimothy the raccoon, Big Ed comparisons, kidney stones, Kool-Aid conspiracies, and Grimace's imaginary tool belt all have in common? Absolutely nothing... which is exactly why this collection of episodes feels like peak Rizz Show chaos. The gang somehow manages to turn a week of random headlines into comedy gold, starting with Riz's unforgettable week wearing a uterus dangler for charity. That spirals into an over-the-top "In Memoriam" featuring heartfelt (and completely fake) tributes to the Kool-Aid Man, Lake of the Ozarks, Riz's immune system, and the internet's newest four-legged fashion icon, Jimothy the raccoon. Somewhere in there, Bags Against the Machine gets ready to melt faces, and everyone learns that once something becomes a running joke on this show, it's probably never going away. Then it's on to some of the strangest news stories you'll hear all week. Fireball decides sneakers should double as whiskey flasks, Olive Garden pasta dreams are crushed, Motley Crüe somehow survives another unbelievable story from the '80s, Bret Michaels battles kidney stones, and the crew debates whether taking shots out of your shoes is somehow worse than sneaking booze in every other imaginable place. As always, the celebrity gossip takes a hard left into absurd territory before anyone has a chance to act like responsible adults. And because the universe apparently wasn't weird enough already, Riz experiments with a ponytail, immediately gets roasted by the internet, and discovers that reading comment sections is still one of humanity's worst ideas. Long hair, man buns, Big Ed comparisons, family pool disasters, forgotten garden hoses, and enough self-inflicted embarrassment to last a lifetime all become fair game as the crew relentlessly piles on each other the way only lifelong friends can. You'll also get plenty of music talk, pop culture commentary, ridiculous impressions, fake documentaries, strange animal obsessions, celebrity updates, weird news, and the kind of off-the-rails conversations that somehow make perfect sense when you're listening live. Whether they're breaking down bizarre internet trends, roasting each other's life choices, or creating elaborate backstories for mascots that absolutely did not need tragic origin stories, the laughs never stay in one lane for very long.If you love a daily comedy show that bounces between hilarious fails, entertainment gossip, celebrity news, weird internet stories, and completely unnecessary deep dives into topics nobody asked for, you've found your people. This daily comedy show is packed with sarcastic humor, funny stories, St. Louis attitude, and the chemistry that's made The Rizzuto Show a favorite for fans of comedy podcasts and morning radio alike. From pop culture commentary to fail stories and everything in between, this daily comedy show delivers exactly the kind of beautiful nonsense you've come to expect. So buckle up, ignore your better judgment, and enjoy three episodes stitched together into one glorious collection of organized chaos. Whether you're here for Jimothy Summer, the fake memorials, celebrity gossip, bizarre inventions, internet nonsense, or simply to hear friends make each other laugh until someone can't breathe, thanks for hanging out with The Rizzuto Show.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.Bride Hospitalized on Her Honeymoon After Contracting Cyclosporiasis, the Parasitic Illness That Causes ‘Explosive' DiarrheaI traveled abroad with my 78-year-old parents. Inbox of Oddities: Lettuce Lotion, Florida Organ Recitals & Envelopes Full of Crap It's time to open the Inbox of Oddities, where the Freak Family always delivers the unexpected. This week, Kat explains the surprisingly heartfelt tradition of sending an "envelope full of crap," while listeners share stories that are equal parts hilarious, touching, and gloriously strange. There's the mystery of disappearing podcast subscriptions, the linguistic adventures of perimenopause (including the unforgettable phrase "lettuce lotion"), a child's perfectly executed two-sentence ghost story, and a voicemail transcription that turns "ashes" into something considerably more awkward. Along the way, you'll discover what a Florida organ recital really is, hear from a listener who traveled to Armenia after our recent episode, learn about bizarre narwhal facts that may have inspired the legend of unicorn horns, meet the internet's favorite oddly-shaped raccoon, Jimothy, and enjoy one of the greatest pieces of unintentionally translated game packaging ever written. As always, it's a celebration of curious minds, wonderfully weird stories, and the incredible community that keeps the Box of Oddities overflowing with surprises. In this episode: listener stories, Inbox of Oddities, perimenopause humor, Armenia travel, unicorn myths, narwhals, funny voicemail transcripts, bizarre internet discoveries, odd history, strange facts, and the world's greatest collection of beautiful freaks.
