Trix rushes to aid Elaith, who has been suddenly pulled up toward the canopy and an awaiting man-eating plant. As they make quick work of the predator, Rou maneuvers to catch his new friend when they fall. Unknown to the party, an unseen figure watches the scene from the shadows. As the smoke clears from Trix's arrow and Elaith lands safely, the figure reveals themself. Standing over 8 feet tall, the figure demands they return to where they came from and insists the island has nothing for them. When Elaith pushes back, and even goes so far as to give a thorough description of the plant they need, the figure seems to relax a bit. Rou and Trix chime in, helping to convince the figure to at least talk with them - preferably in a safer place. The figure, who shares she's named Ashaña, leads them deeper into the jungle. What strikes the party is that the plants seem to react to his very presence as ze walks through the foliage. Freshly freed from quicksand, the party returns to the river to clean off the grit and wet sand, making a quick plan before continuing their journey. They decide that Elaith and Rou will forge ahead while Trix leaps among the branches to spy the trail ahead. With the humidity too high to dry their clothes, the party dons wet clothing and gets back on track. As they push through the underbrush, the party hears the sound of a child crying. They veer off course to check out the sound and find the sound comes from a mass of tangled vines. Trix peers down from above and sees what appears to be a small form wrapped in something purple, the form shaking with each sob. Rou and Elaith head into the vines to help Trix get a closer look, and quickly realize it's a mistake when Rou is grappled by vines that draw him closer to a gaping, toothed maw. Trix is able to make quick work of the vines with their explosive arrows, which causes the plant to disappear into the brush. Returning to their original path, the party experiences a moment of peace before Elaith is grabbed by a draping vine and pulled up into the canopy.  Follow Dax @gmdax, Kappa @TheKappaChris, Sebastian @sebastianyue and Wren @ThornyDryad  EPISODE CREDITS: Produced by DaxOpening theme music, editing and mixing by WrenLogo Artwork design by JessieCharacter Artwork design by RiyuskiSegment music and sound effects licensed through Epidemic SoundLINKS:Be sure to follow and tag Roads Uncharted on Bluesky!

Finding Yourself With ROU REYNOLDS From ENTER SHIKARI

HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersA band who transcend genre and have transfixed fans across the globe since emerging in 2003, ENTER SHIKARI weave an unforgettable blend of post hardcore rock and electronic wizardry, while also flying the flag for meaningful lyricism that spans politics, climate change and the very gamut of the human experience.During their remarkable and celebrated career, Enter Shikari have received several accolades in the form of gongs from NME, Kerrang!, Rock Sound, Heavy Music Awards and more. They have played a whopping 3000+ live shows around the world including three headline arena tours in the UK, supported the likes of The Prodigy and Linkin Park and played festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Download and Slam Dunk where they also headlined in 2023.And now it's Australia's turn, as Enter Shikari ready for their first headline tour of this country since 2022 on the back of dropping their most recent album, Lose Your Self, as a well kept secret with no singles, no promotion. Nothing. A band who have never been afraid to shun convention, Enter Shikari remain as fresh and relevant today as when they first burst onto the scene in 2003. HEAVY took the opportunity to chat with frontman Rou Reynolds ahead of the tour, starting by asking if he is packed and ready to fly. "Getting there," he laughed. "We're all very excited to get back to Australia. It's one of our favourite places to play."Australian fans got to see Enter Shikari live earlier last year as part of Knotfest 2025, so we ask Rou what has changed with the band since that tour."Oh, blimey," he countered. "We finished up our record and released that. That was a long, arduous process (smiles). All sorts of life stuff has been going on… It's been all change really. But at the same time it doesn't feel like that long ago we were in Australia but that's an example of how quickly time seems to ebb away at the moment (laughs)."Talk turns to last months unconventional release of Enter Shikari's new album Lose Your Self, which was granted no advance publicity or convential single release schedule and was instead set forth on the world to little fanfare and much surprise. We ask Rou about the thought process behind such a potentially risky move."I think once we finished the album we really saw it as a body of work; as one entity," he replied, choosing his words carefully. "And that was kind of a shock really, because the album was recorded in such a disjointed way over a long period of time. There was a worry that it wouldn't come together as one solid body of work but it did, quite effortlessly. At that point we were trying to think how did we want to release this and we basically just thought it would be a credit to the art of it if we just released it. How do we want people to approach this album? How do we want them to absorb it? And I think the traditional way of releasing three or four singles before a reord just didn't excite us. I think just dropping a record in people's laps forces them to take it in as an album. The focus then becomes not about the hype or trying to make a really successful album. It actually becomes about how do people react to the album? How do people indulge in it and make it their own when they take one body of work and immerse themselves in it. That's really exciting to us."In the full interview Rou talks more about the tour and what we can expect, running us through an Enter Shikari live show and the synergy between the band and the crowd that creates a welcoming and comfortable experience. We spoke more about Lose Your Self and the surprise release, including the changes in approach and pressure the band experienced by not having to meet pre-album obligations and expectations. Rou talked about the darkness inherent in the album material and how it represents Enter Shikari moving forward and much more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Meanwhile, Rou and Elaith stand at the ready with weapons drawn, waiting for the creature to attack again. When the creature rises from the depths and reveals its full form, much of the crew begins to scream and paralyzed with terror, including Elaith. The creature rakes a tentacle across the deck, plowing into the mast that holds Trix. They are able to get down safely but at the expense of rope burns on their palms. Rou dives into the fray, hacking at the tentacles with his sword. Captain Lucy calls out, her voice seeming to echo from the skies above and then lightning shoots down and strikes the creature. It flees from the ship, taking more sailors with it as its tentacles drag across the deck. The ship slowly makes its way to shore, and the trio help with cleaning, repairs and healing as much as they can before nightfall. Eventually, the Captain is swayed by Trix's words and agrees to take them provided they pay 500 gold for passage. Realizing they're a little short on funds, Elaith offers to provide services as a doctor for the duration of the voyage. The Captain declines the offer, considering the voyage would be too short to make the value of the services worth it. Rou negotiates that the trio part with 300 of their gold before the voyage, and afterward the Captain takes 50% of all treasure found on the island, as well as a case of healing potions for the crew that Elaith would brew on board. With the ship leaving in an hour and the voyage to last two weeks, the party heads into Stagg Hollow to make final preparations. We've been having a look back through the Tape Notes archive to bring back some of our favourite early episodes that you may have missed. This selection is our conversation with Enter Shikari's Rou Reynolds, digging into their 2020 record, 'Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible'. EPISODE NOTES In this episode, John catches up with Enter Shikari frontman and producer, Rou Reynolds to breakdown how the band wrote, recorded and produced their new album ‘Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible'.   As the band's most genre-bending album to date, Rou talks us through the challenges of combining techy metal, rave, reggae and ska influences with an oom-pah band and full symphony orchestra. Digging through his fifteen hard drives of demos and jams, we're shown how every aspect of a track has a purpose and meaning – with detailed rhythms and distinctive sounds reflecting the state of the world in their own way.    Listen to hear the original gibberish lyrics that ended up making the final version of a song, how the band ended up forming and recording their toy drum kit and what plugins Rou uses to create his own audio cuddle.   Tracks discussed: THE GREAT UNKNOWN, Waltzing Off the Face of the Earth (1.
