Mildred and Richard were a married couple who were the plaintiffs in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia (1967). The Lovings were criminally charged with interracial marriage under a Virginia statute banning such marriages, and were forced to leave the state to avoid being jailed.
