Santa Monica will not host Olympic beach volleyball in 2028 despite initial plans. LA 28 approached Santa Monica due to its iconic beach and pier, and the city's claim to inventing beach volleyball. The Olympic Committee covers costs directly tied to the games, but Santa Monica sought additional community benefits. A consultant's report indicated the city would lose $1.5 million hosting the games, but could gain $5–7 million without hosting, through increased tourism. However, historical data from other Olympics shows non-Olympic tourism often drops significantly during the games. Santa Monica's decision was criticized for lacking vision and outreach to cover the financial shortfall. Long Beach, which has been more welcoming to the Olympics, will now host the beach volleyball.

My guest for Episode #290 of the My Favorite Mistake podcast is Michelle Rankine, Ph.D., a trailblazing entrepreneur in the health space who built a multimillion-dollar home care franchise business to address disparities in Black and Brown communities. Episode page with video, transcript, and more A former sports executive with roles at major organizations like the U.S. Olympic Committee, Michelle found her calling in senior home care after her brother's tragic car accident left him paralyzed. Driven by a strong sense of purpose and community, she now owns three Right at Home franchises in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, prioritizing quality care and bridging critical gaps for aging adults. In this episode, Michelle and host Mark Graban explore her biggest lessons learned: why trust is essential when building a business, how data-driven KPIs can spark growth, and where home care fits into the spectrum of healthcare services. Michelle shares her personal story of shifting from the security of collegiate sports administration to the uncertainty of entrepreneurship, revealing how she discovered resilience, the importance of coaching, and the power of focusing on the right goals. Key themes include fostering health equity, measuring what matters, and creating supportive networks—whether for Olympic athletes or for families needing respite care. Questions and Topics: Could you share your “favorite mistake,” and how did you learn from it? Was your realization about needing to trust others gradual, or was there a clear wake-up call? Which key KPIs helped you decide to step away from handling sales yourself? How did your team respond when you began delegating more, and did you get any feedback about micromanaging? What led you from a career in sports management to launching a home care business? How do the resilience and focus you gained in athletics translate to entrepreneurship? What are the biggest health disparities you aim to address, and how do your franchises help bridge those gaps? Could you clarify the difference between ‘home care' and ‘home health,' and why does that distinction matter? Why do some families wait too long to seek help, and how can people avoid that mistake? What advice would you offer to adult children who find themselves caring for aging parents, especially when roles reverse?

Senator Tommy Tuberville says the decision by the Olympic Committee to force a female boxer to fight a biological male resulting in the female quitting in tears after just 46 seconds is “so wrong,” and part of Marxist Socialist progressives, “total war on women.” The U.S. Senator for Alabama says that this display in Paris is why the GOP must fight back against ‘Marxist Socialist' ideas by progressives against Title IX. Commenting, “Title IX is one of the best things to ever come out of the federal government. 50 years ago, I started with girls sports, I coached girls basketball, I saw the emergence of not just one or two, but eight or nine more sports that young girls could be involved in at the elementary school level, the high school level, given the chance to get a scholarship, just like the boys had. It's all about fairness, give them an opportunity to learn leadership skills and work skills, how to win how to Lose just like men and it has worked perfectly, and there's been no problems with it. But all of a sudden, we have a group that takes over our federal government, the deep state and basically says, ‘No, we don't want women to have the same thing as men, we want to curtail that, and we want to start another group identity politics, and let these boys think that they are women, they can play in girls and women's sports'.” Saying, the display at the Olympics this week where a female boxer was forced to fight “a transgender boy, she takes two punches, and she walks off and says she's done. This is wrong, so wrong. So this is all about common sense. It's all about doing what's right for all people, not just a few people in the deep state.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

No matter what the mainstream media tries to tell you—it's clear that the Olympic Committee is still scrambling to undo the damage they did while mocking Christ at the opening of the Paris Olympics. Is the Kammi Harris psyop working on people? No, it's a legitimate question. Is this psyop working, because nothing has changed. Really nothing has changed. I mean, we've changed figureheads. What the Democrats did is they did in public what they used to do behind closed doors. They're saying, “Your votes don't matter to us. We're going to prove that to you. We're going to install Kammi Harris.” And of course, she's getting help from every single corner. You're considered the most liberal United States senator. And we need to talk about the Olympic committee silencing critics in the aftermath of the demonic opening ceremonies. What does God's Word say? The International Olympic Committee has apologized for the 2024 Paris Olympics' controversial opening ceremonies, which included a Last Supper depiction featuring drag queens and a "fat acceptance" activist playing the part of Jesus. The organizers insist that no mockery or offence was intended, but True North's Andrew Lawton points out that Christians are pretty well the only religious group anyone would dare make such a performance about. Also, Canadian Taxpayers Federation Alberta director Kris Sims went by Edmonton City Hall to take a stock photo and was shocked to find the area around it filled with garbage and urine. Cities across the country are falling into similar states with no one seemingly doing anything about it. Plus, a new report from the Aristotle Foundation finds that Canada and the United States have the most permissive approaches – making younger patients eligible for "invasive surgeries and/or potentially irreversible and medically harmful dispensation of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones." In 2017, the Larry Nassar scandal rocked the Olympic community. Hundreds of allegations of sexual abuse against the former USA Gymnastics doctor underscored how vulnerable athletes are — particularly when they're minors. Teahupo'o Bay is also recognized for its subsistence fishing, where local fishermen catch fish for their own consumption and sometimes sell them at local markets. The selection of Teahupo'o Bay for the surfing event highlights the area's natural beauty and significance. The bay's coral reef plays a crucial role in creating the waves that attract surfers, while also providing a habitat for various fish species. The local fishing communities depend on these fish for sustenance and their livelihoods. However, concerns have been raised about the potential negative impacts of the Olympics on Teahupo'o Bay. The construction of an aluminum tower for the event has raised worries among locals about the damage it may cause to the corals and fish populations. The tower will be placed within the shallow coral reef, requiring the installation of concrete bases and potentially displacing parts of the reef. The protest against the tower's construction is driven by the desire to protect the environment and ensure the long-term sustainability of Teahupo'o Bay. Local surfers, fishermen, and community members have taken to social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok to raise awareness about the issue. They have also launched an online petition, which has garnered over 195,000 signatures. Acknowledging the concerns raised by the local community, the Olympic Committee has made some changes to the construction plans. The proposed tower will now be smaller and lighter, reducing its potential impact on the reef. Additionally, the existing wooden tower, which has been deemed safe, will be utilized instead of building a new structure. Despite these modifications, doubts still remain about the potential damage caused by the construction process. Videos have surfaced showing a barge getting stuck on the coral reef during an inspection, raising questions about the effectiveness of the proposed measures to minimize harm. The controversy surrounding the surfing event in Teahupo'o Bay highlights the tensions between hosting large-scale events like the Olympics and preserving the natural environment. The concerns of the local community regarding the long-term impacts on the reef and fish populations are valid, and their efforts to raise awareness and push for changes should be supported. It remains to be seen how the Olympic Committee will address these concerns and ensure the sustainability of the event. The locals in Tahiti are deeply concerned about the construction of an aluminum tower for the surfing event during the Paris 2024 Olympics. They fear that the construction and placement of the tower within the shallow coral reef of Teahupo'o Bay will cause damage to the corals and fish populations in the area. The tower will require concrete bases to be installed, displacing some of the reef and potentially disrupting the natural ecosystem. The locals rely on the coral reef for subsistence fishing, and any harm to the reef could have severe consequences for their livelihoods and food security. The protesters argue that the construction of the tower goes against the sustainability goals of the Olympic Committee. While the committee has made efforts to make the Olympics more sustainable by reusing buildings and using a cruise liner as the Olympic village, the construction of the tower in Teahupo'o Bay contradicts these efforts. The locals believe that the existing wooden tower, which has been deemed safe, should be used instead. They argue that the construction of a new tower is unnecessary and poses a risk to the delicate coral reef ecosystem. The protesters have taken various actions to raise awareness and oppose the construction of the tower. They have created videos on Instagram and TikTok, launched an online petition, and organized a protest. These efforts have garnered significant support, with over 195,000 signatures on the petition. The local fishing community, surfers, and the general population of Teahupo'o are all united in their opposition to the tower. In response to the protests, the Olympic Committee has made some concessions. They have proposed reducing the size and weight of the tower to minimize its impact on the reef. They have also pledged to use electrically propelled barges with a shallow draft during construction to prevent damage to the coral. However, the protesters remain skeptical, citing evidence of damage caused by a barge during an inspection of the proposed tower site. The controversy surrounding the construction of the tower highlights the tensions between hosting large-scale events like the Olympics and protecting local ecosystems. The locals in Teahupo'o Bay are concerned about the long-term consequences of the construction on their environment and way of life. They are calling for more sustainable alternatives and greater consideration of the local ecosystem in the planning and execution of the Olympics. The episode discusses a protest that has emerged against the construction plans for the surfing event at the Paris 2024 Olympics in Tahiti. The local Tahitian community, including fishermen, farmers, and surfers, are concerned about the potential damage to the coral reefs and fish populations in the area. They have created an online petition that has received over 195,000 signatures and have used social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok to raise awareness about the issue. In response to the protest and concerns, the Olympic Committee has made some changes to the construction plans. They have decided to reduce the size and weight of the aluminum tower that was initially proposed, making it similar to the existing wooden tower that has been deemed safe. The construction will involve concrete bases and drilling rods into the reef, but the committee claims that the smaller size of the tower will require less disruption to the corals. They have also scrapped plans for drinking water and wastewater connections to the mainland and will remove internet and submarine electric cables after the event. The majority of the tower will be temporary, but a three-meter pole above sea level will remain. However, there is skepticism and mistrust from the local community regarding these changes. They have shared videos on social media that show a barge inspecting the proposed tower site getting stuck on the coral reef and causing damage. This contradicts the committee's claims of minimal damage during construction. The community is calling for the use of the existing wooden tower, which they believe is safe and would not require additional damage to the reef. The episode emphasizes the importance of continued activism and support for the local community to protect the coral reefs and fish populations in Tahiti. It encourages listeners to sign the petition, engage with social media accounts, and consider boycotting the Olympics if the construction plans proceed without further changes.
