In 1944, the brutal slayings of two young girls made plenty of headlines in Alcolu, South Carolina. The trial of their suspected killer garnered far less attention -- even when he was convicted and violently executed in the electric chair. That's because few people had much sympathy for the boy who supposedly confessed to the crime. Nearly a century later, however, and 14-year-old George Stinney Jr. is not only recognized as the youngest person legally executed in America in the 20th century, but he's also largely recognized as being wrongfully convicted. "Crimes of the Centuries" is a podcast from Grab Bag Collab exploring forgotten crimes from times past that made a mark and helped change history. 14 år gamle George Stinney jr. ble i 1944 henrettet for drap mange mener at han ikke begikk, på to jenter i 8-11 årsalderen. 70 år senere går politiet ut og sier at de tok feil, men hva bør straffen være for en slik handling?
In 1944, two schoolgirls were murdered in their hometown of Alcolu, South Carolina. Witnesses claimed to have seen 14-year-old George Stinney Jr. talking with them on the day of their disappearance. George was swiftly arrested, interrogated, and charged with murder. After allegedly confessing to the crimes, he was sentenced to death, becoming the youngest person in all of America to undergo the death penalty. Three years later, the son of a powerful South Carolina family made a deathbed confession: George Stinney was innocent. In 2014, an ambitious team of lawyers reopened the case in an attempt to exonerate George and clear his name, 70 years after his untimely death. Learn more about your ad choices. --------- Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/crimeandcomedy Tutti i Podcast: https://link.chtbl.com/CrimeandComedy Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/crimeandcomedy.podcast/ Telegram: https://t.me/crimeandcomedy Sito: https://www.crimeandcomedy.it Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/crimeandcomedy/ Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CrimeComedy Instagram: Clara Campi: https://www.instagram.com/claracampicomedy/ Marco Champier: https://www.instagram.com/mrchreddy/ Caricature - Giorgio Brambilla: https://www.instagram.com/giorgio_brambilla_bookscomedy/ Learn more about your ad choices. It's that time of the month! That's right... it's our August Freestyle! Pam: Betty June Binnicker and Mary Emma Thames were on the hunt for some mayflowers in March of 1944 in the small town of Alcolu, South Carolina. When they came across a boy named George Stinney Jr and his sister, Amie, they asked them if they knew where they could find any, to everyone's surprise, that would be the last time the girls would be seen alive... allegedly. In 1944 in the south, things weren't great for POC. So when George, a black boy, heard of the girls disappearance and told authorities that he had seen them earlier in the day, police were quick to arrest him... listen along as I tell you about this gross miscarriage of justice and the way George's name was cleared many years later. Ronda: Chowchilla, California- home of the largest kidnapping for ransom in United States history. In 1976, an entire school bus was taken hostage and its occupants were buried alive. The driver of the bus, Ed Ray, along with the 26 children in his charge, managed to escape their underground tomb after having been missing for 36 hours. The entire nation was on red alert. Certainly the kidnappers would have reached out… but they fell asleep…!!! In 1944, George Stinney Jr went down in history as the youngest person to ever be put to death at the age of 14. In a span of just 83 days, he had been charged with murder, tried, convicted, and executed by the state. 70 years later, he was finally exonerated. Injustice comes in many forms. This is certainly among the most upsetting. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/scspookshow/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/scspookshow/support

A 14 year old boy was railroaded by a racist justice system in South Carolina in 1944 and was executed in short order.

Award winning British journalist, Charles Thomson, returns to Reason Bound to discuss state-sponsored executions, also known as "capital punishment" or "the death penalty". As many nations across the world move toward a greater level of civility, there are still countries where the state has the authority to demonstrate murder is wrong by murdering. Charles talks with Ryan about the inherent hypocrisy of the death penalty and discusses the cases of Nathaniel Woods, Troy Davis, and George Stinney Jr., among others. The lasting question will be: What does this add to our humanity?

On June 16, 1944 (76 years ago, today) George Stinney Jr was executed for a crime he did not commit. At the age of 14, he became the youngest person to be executed in the United States. It took 4 minutes for the murder (I said it) to be completed. He was too small for the electric chair so he was forced to sit on top of the Bible that he was carrying to the chamber. A literal Bible booster seat. From the time of his arrest to the time of his death, he couldn’t stop asking “Why? Why would they kill me for something I didn’t do?” From start to finish, it was 83 days. His trial was only 3 hours long. The jury consisted of 10 men, all white. And it took these “men” (not in my world, assholes) a mere 10 minutes to find George “guilty, of all charges.”

We are on Monday through Friday each morning at 8a pacific, which is 9a Mountain, 10a central and 11a Eastern. Everything goes. Everything. On Wednesdays, Johnny Davis follows immediately with WILD WEDNESDAY – you'll enjoy it. When you are on, do not be disruptive, we have fun, but we like the show to run smooth. If you have noises in your background, they are magnified, so keep a quiet atmosphere or Jay will mute you – and if you've never been SHUT/DOWN, it will catch you by surprise, but if you know the score…c'mon! what are you waiting for? I took my podcast to the entertainment capital of the world. I took my podcast to Los Angeles "L.A." I want that to sit for a minute and soak in. My podcast has no MAJOR sponsors yet, it's independent; it's self produced, black owned and its the number one podcast in the city of Houston! I took it to L.A. and I linked up with FOUR AFRICAN AMERICAN women who are nothing short of amazing. This episode is the fourth podcast of the four that I will drop from my L.A. run! Circa 2014, I had completed my first independent. I had done the stage play four times and when it came time to level up a young women auditioned and got the lead role. Her name is Ruby Lee Dove II. I remember telling her its your time and that she's in that position for a reason! She went on to get an agent and move to LA. She sites that the move to LA was due to the fact of stagnation! She sites that you have to come to LA as an actor and not an aspiring actor! If you cant get the role create it (24:30). We talk about her 1944 project (26:11) under her production company Life After Life. The project was about the wrongful death of an African American kid named George Stinney Jr. by electric chair (27:10) in 1944! She talks about the time spent writing 1944, the amount of drafts written for 1944 and finally the perception of 1944 when it premiered! We look at the very first project she booked when she moved to LA and Ruby gives a bit of advice to young women of color who may follow her foot steps! This is the last episode from my LA run. The knowledge and conversations i had with these four African American women is indescribable. All I can say is thank you for your time! Again I am so appreciative of Ajia and the extended arm she gave me with the previous three podcasts. This episode is also dedicated to my son! I love you John Ross Dike II bka Baby D rest in paradise/Heaven! Sit back, relax and enjoy Episode 31 of the Whats Next!? Podcast a production of Still Visionary, Inc. The wrongful execution of an innocent child, George Junius Stinney Jr. The youngest person ever executed in America. Podcast #12 Hosts: Unity Love & Lil Cupcake
The youngest person to be executed by electric chair was George Stinney Jr. George was a Black fourteen year old boy when he died in the electric chair in South Carolina in 1944. Seventy years after his execution, George Stinney Jr. was exonerated for the crimes it took all of ten minutes to convict him of. Thirty-two years before the George Stinney case, in the summer of 1912, a young Black girl, just days after her 17th birthday was led to the electric chair in Richmond Virginia. As with many of these cases, the issues of race, class, and education all played an integral role. It is Virginia’s story that inspired this The Chair.
A chance encounter in 1944 brings 14-year-old George Stinney Jr. into brief contact with two white girls. It seems so innocuous. Yet, an enduring mystery is born in the moments the girls walk away.
