I spent the last few years stressed out and filled with anxiety, and I am NOT the type of person to get anxiety. Right around the moment it nearly got the best of me, I really dove deep into meditation and breath work. It literally changed my entire life. When I first started looking into how to learn to meditate, I kept running into the same things. Dreadlocks, tapestries, candles, you know, the classic "meditation type things". I remember asking myself, why isn't there some regular, everyday type dude to teach me how to do it. It's not that I don't like the hippies and overly spiritual types, it's just that I didn't feel like myself surrounded by incense, sage, and candles. (I actually love that stuff now haha) But from the jump, I just wanted a simple, easy way to learn to meditate. It didn't need to be over complicated or have some sort of style, I just wanted to feel better while experiencing my life. So I learned on my own, tried new things, guided meditations, went to a couple classes (hosted by a psychic lol) and I even set up a meditation area in my closet that now sits dark and sadly alone. I slowly realized none of that is at all necessary. Most days, I sit on the floor of my living room or on my recliner to meditate. I don't have any certain practice or mantra, I just breathe and let me body tell me what it needs me to consider. There's no accessories or rituals, because there doesn't need to be. Truth is, humans have the power to control their emotions, their feelings, their internal systems. However, we've become so dependent on outside stimulations that we have all but forgotten our true abilities. Things like meditation and breath work have been around forever. Literally since humans showed up, we've been doing these things. We can control how we feel about our day to day life, how we feel about our jobs, how much we love, feel peace, all of it. We control everything. The secret is in the mind and breath. The mind sets intentions, the breath gives the body the ability to take action. It's all been right in front of us the entire time. ……. It’s no secret, 2020 was one of, if not THE, most turbulent years in modern history. In today’s episode I go into why I stopped doing podcasts in 2020, how meditation changed my entire life, what I’m up to now, and plans and ideas for the future. I spent 2017-2020 completely off the charts in stress and anxiety. I changed jobs more times that I can even remember, I almost moved to Florida, and the financial roller coaster my family experienced was nauseating. This past year capped it all off. Between a worldwide pandemic, the George Floyd protests, riots, burnt up cities, and the most ridiculous Presidential election ever, I had to shut up and check out for the year. Everyone was mad at each other, about EVERYTHING. Everyone seemed to have had an MBA paired with an opinion on societal conditions, virology, and political science, and pretty much anything else the mainstream news told us we needed to be arguing over. Every single thing we faced turned into a fight and without realizing, we exposed ourselves to infection-level amounts of negativity. So I learned to meditate. I learned breath work. I executed these new ideas and techniques into my own life, and everything changed. A six figure opportunity fell into my lap, I became more present and patient with my family, and I just feel…good. For the first time in a LONG time. I’m inspired by the idea of helping other people, YOU guys, learn about the same things that have made my own life just so much more enjoyable. So today, I went over the transition period. I shared some ideas and the journey I needed to undergo to arrive in a place where I’m now a certified meditation teacher ready to help busy people have more enjoyable lives by balancing stress and anxiety with short, simple mindfulness practices. As we move forward, I’m going to teach some Meditation 101 level classes, share breath work practices, opened up a Meditation Masterclass, group and 1:1 coaching, workshops, meetups, and retreats. Throughout my 20's, I was a small town rapper in Upper Michigan who went by the name Jake James. ( Please don't judge me for this: https://bit.ly/jakejames ) About 5 years into it, I moved to Marquette, Michigan and to my great surprise, there was a local hip hop scene! It was easily the most fun season of my entire life. We were kings of that little city. We sold out shows at local venues, PACKED basements and house party shows, and covered the town in promo fliers. Everybody knew us and it was so much fun! The best crew in the city was Team Watz Gud. The squad was made up of eR, Foxx, Dolo, and the Danxx Twinz Ste'phon and Sterling Mounday. Sterling sort of became the de-facto ringleader. He was their engineer, graphic designer, videographer, and, well, he wore many hats! I always related to him because I was a solo act and did LITERALLY everything from myself. I made beats, wrote raps, recored myself, mastered the audio, designed the cover Art, booked and promoted shows. It was exhausting , but I loved it more than anything at the time. Today, the Danxx Twinz are out on their own as independent artists. Their Spotify numbers are skyrocketing and their sound has developed really strongly over the years. In the wake of the George Floyd killing by the Minneapolis Police, last week were the protests in Milwaukee and Sterling was on the front line every day. About a year and a half ago, I randomly came across the Instagram account of this dude in Scottsdale named Brandon that called himself the Versace King. Brandon met me at my office to record the podcast and brought a friend with him. Enter Payam. For 15 minutes before we did the pod, Payam and I spoke feverishly about our thoughts on mindset, manifestation, and the law of attraction. Two years ago I make what feels like now, a huge mistake. I went to a business event at the W6 tower in Tempe, Arizona. I'll be honest, I only went because it was free and i wanted to get a pic from the balcony of the penthouse. It sounded dope. haha I call it a mistake because, even tho I had a gut feeling it was a good move, I chose not to sign up. Half way through the seminar, Alysha Bush took the stage, and she was POWERFUL. I was blown away by her energy, as thousand of others have been since. I followed her on Instagram, and spent the next two year watching her rise up the Forex ranks. At the time of that first event, she was only making about $2000 a month at the time, and since then I've seen her go from $5k, to $10k, all the way up to $25,000 per month in residual income. She'd due to hit $50k in the coming weeks. Amazing! A few months ago I made the decision to finally join her business, and so far it's been one of the best decision I've ever made. Our apartment balcony faces the runway of a tiny local airport. 95% of the time its tiny Cessna's that local rich dudes monkey around with. At least, that's what I think. lol Once in a while we'll catch a private jet leaving the East Valley. I met Chughey in 2012/13 at a small town rap show I was performing at in Escanaba, Michigan. I think it was at the Delft Theater. I was almost a decade into making music, and he had just started. How do we predict what we're going to talk about before we're ever even asked something? lol preparation, man! I have a story for everything, and I use certain keywords or phrases to tell me how to use my stories to relate to a person. Certain words trigger matching stories. I don't feel like podcasts have to be structured anymore, personal brands either. My kid ONLY watches videos of other kids playing the games he plays. Today I had an excellent conversation with professional golfer Kyung Kim. We met last year when we played together in a Pro-Am at the Island Resort Championship at the Sweetgrass Golf Club in Escanaba, Michigan. Kyung is an Arizona State Champion, won a National Championship on the University of Southern California women's golf team and is currently on the "Road to the LPGA" Symetra Tour. We spoke about what it was like for her growing up playing golf, going to high school in the golf Mecca of Phoenix, playing golf for USC, winning a national Championship, and life on the professional golf tour.
