Send us a textWhen you change, everything and everyone else around you changes, too.  This includes your relationships with family, friends, work, and YOURSELF! In this week's episode of The Millennial Reset, we're joined again by one of our millennial mental health besties, Lindsey Lopez, to have the real conversations around our changing relationships as we grow into our 30s.  This includes:The relationships with our parents.  Depending on your relationship thus far, this might look like setting stronger boundaries or learning how to let go of resentment and forgive our parents for not knowing any better. The relationships with our friends.  As we grow out of our 20s, where many of us were conditioned to compare ourselves to others and have larger friend groups, you may begin to crave deeper connections with fewer people.  This shift is one of quality over quantity.  The relationship with work.  After having spent so many years focused on climbing the corporate ladder, this may look different.  Either we've seen the benefits of this, and decide that the effort is worth the reward.  Or, we might start climbing back down that corporate ladder so that we can finally focus on our own dreams and goals and build a stronger identity outside of a job title. The relationship with ourselves.  Nothing changes until you change.  That change can feel extremely uncomfortable since it goes against everything you were taught and learned so far. As we continue to take the scary steps to get back in touch with our authentic self, one of the most important parts of this healing journey is how we treat ourselves.  Join us, as we have the conversation out loud that so many tired millennials are having to themselves.  Looking for that next level of support in your healing journey?  Join the 30-day Millennial Mindset Challenge! Support the showvisit www.themillennialreset.com/podcast to subscribe and listen to all episodes.

Send us a textThis week's episode of The Millennial Reset is dedicated to all of my millennial besties that are ready to face their fears, and finally do whatever it takes to not only overcome burnout, but to give yourself permission to do things differently!  It's for those that are either just getting started with their "reset" moment, or in the trenches of doing the inner work as we speak. I share my 3 big tips for what to anticipate and how to navigate the murky waters of changing your life from the inside OUT:Rest.  And then rest more.  The complete and utter exhaustion that comes with burnout recovery is actually expected (and not a bad thing).  It means that your body is finally entering into parasympathetic healing mode, where your immune system and physiological processes begin to return to homeostatis, which takes time!  Rather than getting caught up in your thoughts that tell you that you're lazy or too unproductive, just allow yourself to rest without guilt and shame! Start with Intentions (instead of goals).  Goals tend to create more added pressure that can cause us to slip back into fight or flight. When we start with intentions, or how you want to FEEL, we can begin to make decisions based on emotions instead of thoughts.  You can always start with the goal, but then ask yourself "why" five times to start getting down to the root emotion. Gift Yourself with Emotional Experiences. Once you identify your desired emotion, it's up to you to start giving your brain the experiences to realize that emotion time and time again.  When you create your desired emotion internally, this has a profound impact on the resulting thoughts and actions.  Rather than trying to change our THOUGHTS, which requires incredible self-discipline, we can simply give ourselves experiences that make us feel the way we want to feel, so that our brain becomes more and more wired for that feeling and the associated mindset.  If you're looking for that added extra level of support, check out my 30-day Millennial Mindset Makeover Challenge! Support the showvisit www.themillennialreset.com/podcast to subscribe and listen to all episodes.

Best gek eigenlijk. SHElection!: Ohio's 13th Congressional District

The Takeaway

Ohio 13 might be the most competitive congressional SHElection! match up in the country right now. The race for Ohio's 13th Congressional district is between Ohio State representative Emilia Sykes and Trump-backed attorney Madison Gesiotto Gilbert, who disagree on everything from the economy to abortion to who won the 2020 election... Trump was able to carry Ohio both in 2016 and 2020 by about eight points. Until 2022, because of redistricting, Akron was broken apart, diluting its power and leaving political representation in the hands of people with less of a connection to the area. This cycle, Akron and nearby Summit City are fully intact on the redrawn maps, making over half of this voting district (51%) Democrat and 47% Republican. Most national polling deems the race a toss-up, but an early October FiveThirtyEight poll showed Gesiotto Gilbert with an "85 % chance of winning." Gesiotto Gilbert, was Miss Ohio USA in 2014. She's married to Marcus Gilbert, the former NFL offensive tackle, and notably, she gave birth during the campaign cycle. Gesiotto Gilbert used to author a column about millennial politics called The Millennial Mindset at the Washington Times. She has no legislative record to uncover given that fact that she's never served in office, but she does have an interesting professional life as a conservative attorney and self-described business owner. According to POLITICO, last year, she reported earning $24,000 as a contributor to conservative media outlet, The First. Gesiotto Gilbert also lists herself as the owner of a pageant consultancy called Pageant Precision. The consultancy's website no longer operates, and social media findings show that the company hasn't posted anything since 2017. POLITICO also reports that the Gilberts own The Gesiotto Gilbert Foundation, which the couple launched a week before Gesiotto Gilbert declared her candidacy. It describes itself as an organization “dedicated to cultivating the benevolent power of communities across Ohio and strengthening the state through innovative community initiatives, programs and services.” It also has no website, and state business filings list Pageant Precision as its mailing address.  Ohio state representative Emilia Sykes comes from a family of politicians. Sykes mother, Barbara, served on city council and in the Ohio House; her father as a state senator. Indeed, a Sykes has represented some part of Akron, Ohio for more than 4 decades now. In 2014, Emilia Sykes became the first Black woman under 30 to join the Ohio State House. She served as Minority Leader of the Ohio House and started an organization called #WeBelongHere to emphasize the importance of Black women's political representation. Anna Starver, political reporter for USA Today's Ohio Bureau, noted that Sykes has signed legislation into law that deals with women's issues in particular. She had a bill come to law that allows victims of dating violence to get protective orders during the pandemic, pushed for Ohio lawmakers to prioritize helping Black Ohioans, and in policymaking, she focuses on things like health care.  Both young women are seen as potentially future leaders in their parties, but does this similarity neutralize gender as a factor in the race? We hear from Wendy Smooth, Senior Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence and a Professor of Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies at the Ohio State University and Anna Staver, a political reporter for USA Today network's Ohio Bureau.

Today, I discuss the decision that many millennials are faced with when they reach their 30s. "Do I really need to buy a home"? The 2008 market crash sent many middle-class and lower-income families into a financial spiral that we have yet to forget. And after 2 of the most notably economically strained years that we have faced in the 21st century, we begin to feel the similarities between 2020/2021 & 2008 come true. Does this mean there is another market crash coming? Do we need to be ready for another economic depression? Or are we just a little paranoid from last time? Adults in the Millennial generation have been pressured by their parents to go to college and invest in real estate or buy a home as they reach adulthood. Sure, at one point, this may have been sound advice. You could invest in a nice family home with leftover liquidity a few decades ago. But is this really as applicable now as it was back in the glory days? My generation, although being a pivotal part of the modern tech industry & investment trends, holds over 30% of national debt for student loans. Crazy right? Some haven't even moved out of Mom and Dad's place yet, so it raised the questions again. Will millennials ever benefit from buying a home? Is it bad advice or maybe just not the right time? Are there ways to maximize your liquid assets besides being bound to the financial handcuffs of a 30-year mortgage? We as millennials have the chance to break the cycle and build a new life, debt-free, with optimal investment options. Find out more on this episode about why I chose not to buy a home. In this episode, Arika Pierce unpacks what it takes to live life on your terms and cultivate a millennial mindset.  By helping you focus on your goals, tune into your why and identify specific action steps forward, Arika's motivating style will have you scribbling down your goals and figuring out how to reach them.  When Arika Pierce was 28, she was hired for her first “big” Corporate job.  She had major imposter syndrome (before it was a thing),  shedidn't know anything about leadership, managing people, running a department or an office. She only knew how to be an “employee.” She decided that she had to succeed, so she became obsessed with learning about successful people. She read books, bios, learned new habits, went to seminars on how to be a better public speaker, communicator, and exude executive presence. Her goal was to transform herself into a leader. A transformative leader.  She decided that is what she wanted to be known for as she grew her career. That's what she wanted people to say about her when she was not in the room. And guess what, it worked--she went on to become the youngest Vice President in her company and later held other Senior Executive roles. Over a decade later she is proud to say that she learned a lot along the way, but most importantly, she learned from leadership expert John C. Maxwell that the best thing leaders can do is to grow more leaders. To learn more about Arika visit her website or find her on Instagram, or LinkedIn.Lindsay Miller, host of the Stress Nanny Podcast and founder of thestressnanny.com coaches women and children on how to use mindfulness to thrive in stressful situations.  Having navigated infertility, anxiety, loss, and autoimmune issues, Lindsay uses decades of life experience and a variety of certifications, to help clients uncover their strengths, develop healthy habits, and improve their self-talk.  By re-framing everyday challenges as opportunities for growth, Lindsay unlocks the potential in any situation and inspires clients to live life on purpose.  You can learn more about Lindsay's courses on her website.
