We are Zion's Finest, a group of friends dedicated to Star Wars: Imperial Assault. This podcast will be primarily focused on the competitive aspects of skirmish play and will consist of the discussion of battle reports, list testing, and specific topics that merit discussion.

Listeners of Zion's Finest that love the show mention:First off, huge thank you to the wonderful Brendan Born who has been waiting patiently for this episode for almost a year. We dive head-first to learn all about the importance of aggressiveness, positioning, aggressiveness, aggressiveness... Did I mention aggressiveness? I feel like we mention it a few times during the episode...With Joey being as awesome of a Melee player as he is, we get to really delve deep into why 2-figure melee Brawler groups can be so incredibly strong in the right hands. Hope you enjoy!
Tis that time again! In this Episode, Isaac, David and Jess sit down and take a look at the ENOURMOUS Season which is IACP S5. We see fixes from the Wampa to Captain Terro, and gain a plethora of brand new Imperial Assault characters, such as Mara Jade, HK-47, and Dr Aphra (Oh my!). Hi there, Built on Hope and Zion’s Finest listeners!Jessica here with a short update. (I tried to upload this audio update a few weeks ago but got a you have uploaded too much this month error message). You may have noticed some changes to your podcast experience. As most of you know, Kenny, of the Zion’s Finest podcast, has released his last episode and is no longer continuing the Zion’s Finest podcast. Kenny has officially hung up his hat and stopped hosting the podcast on his Podbean. I felt that it was a complete tragedy for the podcast to not have a place on the internet for listeners to enjoy so asked Kenny if he wanted us, Built on Hope, to host his episodes (since we are paying for our own podcast anyways). He agreed! Thus the Build on Hope Podbean became the new home for the Zion’s Finest archive. Now…because of how the “import” function works on Podbean, all of you Zion’s Finest listeners have been teleported along with the episodes! That was not actually intentional and I apologise for any confusion or trauma that may have caused, sorry Derek! We are currently working on labelling the Zion’s Finest episodes so that they are easier to find but it’s going to take us a little time. Unlike Kenny I do actually sleep so…yeah.Anywho! For anyone that doesn’t know us, Built on Hope is a podcast dedicated to discussing competitive Imperial Assault mostly focused on IACP (the IA continuity project). We try to release episodes every few weeks.Happy listening everyone!
Hi everyone! Join Jessica, David, and Tom in this episode to dive into a discussion about building a list around Lie in Ambush! We discuss the strengths and weaknesses of using LiA, David chats to us about two variations of 4 activation Lie in Ambush lists he has been playing around with, and some thoughts about what you can expect taking a LiA list to your next tournament. Here it is. You get four brothers, two poems (both Wendell Berry), one rant (okay maybe more), and zero regrets. God bless you all. Thank you for letting me and the crew be a part of your lives for as long as we were. I will never, ever, ever forget it. Here's the schedule: 0:01:00 - Introduction0:07:05 - The Chat1:12:46 - The Final Doubt Rant (that is honestly the best part of the podcast)1:35:52 - Signing Off, I love you all The most amazing thing about this episode is that, even with our time in the sun having past, WE STILL FOUGHT ABOUT DOUBT! Honestly, it is close to the most glorious moment of the podcast and I'd give anything to be able to pick insane fights with you all on something that will cause all of those participating to RAAAAAAAGE! Just a reminder, this will be up on Podbean, iTunes, and all other podcast services for two more weeks, then we're going offline. I'd encourage those of you that want to save podcast episodes that you or a friend appeared on to save them quick. I saw that earlier in the week we got a few hundred downloads of older episodes, which I presume are people doing just this. I have the hard copies on my computer, but I'd prefer that everyone download them on their end. But if you're ever needing one, just message me and I should be able to get it to you pretty quick.
The time has finally come! The eagerly awaited 4th Season of the Imperial Assault Continuity Project is now here, and we can't wait to jump into it! With over 20 new and adjusted cards to add to our collection, we go over each of the three factions one by one, reading out and reviewing each individual card in detail. Join Isaac as he brings on veteran player Derek Martens, who has ranked highly in IACP Tournament with none other than the Repulsor Tank! Derek dives into the intricacies of using a Massive Imperial Vehicle in the competitive scene, making this episode invaluable to anyone who wants to wield the full Destructive Capabilities of the Empire to full effect! And as if that wasn't enough, tune in until the end to hear the full Built on Hope crew Preview and discuss a brand new IACP Season 4 Deployment card... And her Command Card. Thanks for listening! The look no further!Join us for this episode for an in depth analysis on the different variants of Vader lists, map tactics, matchups, and imperial shenanigans with your hosts Isaac and Jess and special guest and long time Vader player of Zion's Finest fame, Scott Nielsen!
Someone got lucky in Vegas. That someone is the one who I thought never got lucky. No I'm not speaking in euphemisms. I have seen Matthew Scott Richards roll dice. He is very bad at rolling things that are not garbage. Fortunately, not only did Matt get lucky, but he leveraged his brain power in order to secure the final Nationals win for IA at the recent Las Vegas Open. In this episode, Matt and I break down why the double Pirates list is so good, how we think it fares against everything else, and what we think we would do to change it for Worlds. ENJOY!
There is a Droid deployment card for Scum that is capable of winning tournaments. No, it's not IG. That fellow had his time in the sun but all he's left to do is be a nurse to Baby Yoda and wish that Thrawn and Cats weren't around to ruin his day. No, it's not BT. That fellow ... well, he was never very good (sorry Joey). Back in the day, oh so many years ago, there was a list that had this unit which was the terror of the meta. The unit could reliably hit a figure from 7-10 spaces away, they could be focused, and they could force white die to reroll dodges. The naysayers among you might say, "Aren't you just describing Weequay Pirates?" Well, no, I'm not, because this unit can't play the best card in the game, which is On the Lam. And yet, he persisted. David from the Michigan Mandalorians took down BRIAN MARKS' Jamal Heroes list TWICE to win a recent regional. I know. I literally could not believe it. But David knows his stuff, so beware the ... oh boy ... HKs. Make sure to pay attention to my review of the next few weeks for closing up shop. I LOVE YOU ALL.
The much anticipated IACP Season 3 has arrived! We hope you are as excited about it as we are!In this episode we discuss the brand new cards and changes in Season 3 and our first impressions of the wave. Just as a note; although Isaac is a member of the IACP committee, all of the opinions expressed in this episode are completely our own and do not represent the official views of the IACP committee as a whole. Join us for some spicy opinions on Season 3!
After the news that Adepticon will be the last FFG OP event for Imperial Assault, many of us are wondering what the future holds. Well it's not all bad news! IACP in the UK scene is thriving and shows a lot of promise for keeping the community going. Join us for a recap of the IACP Regional in Milton Keynes from the players themselves! In this episode we don't have just one guest but many! We conducted a myriad of interviews before, during, and after to hear from a variety of players what their experience was like. Congratulations to Sam Whitaker (spoiler alert) for his IACP regional win!
FRIENDS! The final Utah Regional has come and gone, and someone sold his soul to the god of the mercenaries in order to pull home the win. Yes, I know what you're thinking, but I just couldn't run the Box into what was going to be a murderer's row. Scott and Matt were running Vader and the Jets, Joey was running eRiots, AND THE CATS WERE EVERYWHERE. So I sold out. I ran my Worlds list, and was able to go undefeated on the day, beating Joey in the final. AND IT WAS JOEY'S LIST THAT WAS THE STORY OF THE DAY. The man's list is nuts, and I cannot wait for you to hear about it. Joey was able to get through his own murderer's row on the way to the top of the charts, including beating Scott's Vader and the Jets in the Top Four. Yes, it was a nuts kind of day. Enjoy this one!
Friends. If you are running Hunters or Rebel Heroes, and you run into Cats, may God have mercy on your soul. They are so dynamic, they exert so much pressure, and they are able to remove figures that you cannot protect from an insane distance away. Jason Brege and JK came on the podcast to talk about them cats, and whew boy am I afraid of what they can do with them. GOOD LUCK!
Join us with guest star Kenny Brown for another Knowledge and Defense segment!David hosts an in depth discussion on determining whether or not in a particular matchup you should play aggressively (be the "Beatdown") or play the long game by leveraging control elements ("Inevitability").
What an incredible joy it was to get my brothers back around the horn in order to discuss regional prep. The four of us--Matt, JK, Scott, and I--are running three different lists. We gathered to get reps in in preparation for our regional tournament in three weeks and boy did we have fun. We break down our lists, with particular emphasis on JK's theft of David Gao's kitties and Matt and Scott's running of Vader and the Jeeeettts. You are going to love listening in on this one.
Hello there listeners and welcome back to Built on Hope Radio. I hope you're enjoying the academy episode this week, here is a little bonus episode from when I was having a chat with my wookie friend about list building. -D
Welcome to the Academy! Ever had an idea for a crazy new list that you just had to try out? Or are you a newer player that wants to hear some discussions about list building showcasing some lesser known units? Register for the Academy today! In this episode Jess takes her Tatooine themed list through rigorous training and evaluation. We discuss the Bantha and Tusken raiders and evaluate their performance. Will Jundland Terror graduate from the Academy or flunk out?
There is one person on this planet who still thinks that Han Rangers has play on Maul's map. That's right. One. We all know this person, who is of course Isaac Borno. Despite my protestations, he truly believes that Han Rangers has what it takes to make it all the way--no matter the map. I know, I know, I think he is insane as well. Welp, turns out Isaac not only talks a good game, but walks that game. In fact, he walked it all the way to Lyon, France in order to storm French Nationals. As someone considering giving Han Rangers a go this regional season, I tried to pick his brain to get a clue as to how to make Maul's map work, which I think is pretty tough to do. Listen in for Isaac's tips and report on French Nationals. Thank you!
Ever wondered how you can get that walking carpet to strike fear into your opponent? Or have you ever wanted to maneuver Rangers around in a way to snipe without being seen? Then this is your Segment! In this episode, Isaac brings on long-time Chewbacca player Olly from Manchester. Together they discuss how to build, play, position, control, and ultimately win with either Han Rangers, or Chewbacca lists. Hope you all enjoy it!
Hi everyone! Here is my contribution to Built on Hope Radio to tide you over while David and I are away!
Ryan Janway: the terror of the Carolinas, the Real Ryan (or is he the other one), the man who is due all good things that come his way. Janway comes onto the podcast to report his raucous win with his reckless Rebels in an intensely competitive Nova field. This is an excellent conversation that will be really awesome for those of you prepping for primes. You will enjoy!
In this very first Knowledge and Defense Segment, David has prepared an in-depth analysis of Psychographic profiles. These are categories to help players determine and understand what kind of player they are, and why they run the lists that they do.The Built on Hope cast also analyse what cards and lists fit into these different profiles, and explore what we consider ourselves to be, and what we think each other are.Hope you enjoy!
Hello listeners, thanks for tuning in to Built On Hope late night radio!
Isaac, Jessica, and David present: Built on Hope!In a brand new podcast dedicated to Competitive Imperial Assault and IACP, the three hosts kick off the podcast with a short introductory Episode. We'll be introducing ourselves, explaining what we want to do with the podcast, the different Segments we'll be providing you with, and much more! Stay tuned for more Episodes, ones going in depth into further topics! Thanks for listening!
Have you ever heard of a tournament that Luke Sykes played in where he didn't make top cut? Me neither. And guess what? Euros 2019 was no exception. The man is a machine. He calculates and commands his way to victory with incredible list diversity and creativity. Listen to his report of his runner-up showing at the largest non-Worlds tournament of the year. You will love it. We run a bit long; Luke's report goes until about the 1:10 mark, then we start commiserating and having our real fun. Thank you for all your support. Let me know what your ideas for our final alt-art/token/swag should be for Worlds.
Jeremy is a man after my own heart, and both our hearts happen to go a'flutter when we contemplate the shenanigans that happen when you combine Han, MHD, and everyone's favorite modern major general ... NO NOT GENERAL CALRISSIAN OF COURSE I AM TALKING ABOUT PRINCESS ORGANA YOU NERDS. Listen to Jeremy's report on his runner-up run at Nova. We have a lot of fun talking about what the Box is capable of, despite an absolutely insane meta.
No need to be dramatic about it. Andrew Navaro--one of the upper-management guys at FFG--announced that IA would not be getting any further physical content. Navaro cited business reasons, and pretty heavily implied that some kind of legal issue precluded further discussion. It was also clear that not only would IA no longer be getting physical content releases but that OP support for the game would be winding down. In this episode, I lay out what I think the path will be for the next few months. Please give it a listen and give me any feedback or suggestions as to how you think we can make our final OP season meaningful and fun. I love you all. Good luck in the cut, Nova boys. P.S. I forgot about all the European Championships that are going to be happening in the next few months, and I will absolutely be getting the winners on for interviews.
Have you ever played against a Jawa Swarm? Have you ever experienced the shift in mood brought upon by an opponent seizing victory from the jaws of defeat as they kill one figure and get an additional eight points along with fifteen more from shenanigans that you never even thought possible? HAVE YOU?! Well, Pat Christian's six GenCon opponents sure did, and boy were they in for it. Pat ran a finely tuned Jawa Swarm to the top of the heap at the recent GenCon tournament and in this episode he gives us a rundown on how he did it. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT! Please stay active in your local community. If you are looking for ways to reengage local players with the game, the IACP is an amazing way to reintroduce skirmish to players looking to freshen things up. GOOD LUCK AT NOVA YOU EAST COASTERS! EAST COAST WORST COAST AMIRITE?! (I love you all.)
As if David hadn't struck enough terror into the hearts of the IA community, he decided to really drive it home by showing up to the UK Game Expo in order to demonstrate the power of his fully armed and operational battle ... er ... cats. That's right, David Gao is the UK National Champion, and he rode into and out of town on a troop of ferocious bloodthirsty Loth-Cats. I expect the Queen to grant him a peerage any moment know. Earl of Whiskerton sounds great and will make for a terrific coat of arms. We're also joined by the other half of the London Gao family--Jessica--who also attended the UKGE and played in the Nationals tournament. She played Spectre with a 14 point command deck, with an unplayable card (Dark Energy), and she damn near won the whole thing. Listen to the Gaos recount the tournament. You will love it!
FRIENDS! Are you disheartened that FFG sux? Do you wish that they would get off it and do something about our most beloved game? Well, I got bad news, and I have good news. You know the bad news: FFG sux. But there is good, great, glorious news, and that is that we have the best gaming community that has ever existed (THAT'S RIGHT I PHRASED IT IN THE EMPHATIC DECLARATIVE). Because we are the best gaming community, we are focused on making sure that players have the resources to continue to enjoy and love this game, which serves as the predicate condition for ... THE I A C P! The Imperial Assault Continuity Project is the product of collaboration, discussion, argument (only a little), and the white hot passion of the Imperial Assault community. In this episode, I got some of the more-involved players to come on and talk about the project, what it hopes to accomplish, and how we can help. I know you will enjoy it.
I assume that you know that Loth-Cats are garbage. They are the most ignored unit in the Tyrants of Lothal box. They're so bad that I've literally never played a competitive game of skirmish in which either I or my opponent has played Loth-Cats. They're awful. Well, someone forgot to tell all this information to David Gao, and he proceeded to wreck almost the entirety of everyone's face at Worlds. In a Hunter/Loth-Cat list, David managed to go 5-1, being the only player to take Loth-Cats into the top cut of anything I'm sure, and one of four non-Specter lists in the top cut. This man is legit. Enjoy his soft-spoken demeanor; heaven knows this podcast could use someone to help me cool my volume. MAKE SURE TO GET INVOLVED AND STAY INVOLVED IN THE IACP. WE NEED COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS THING WORK AND IF IT'S JUST ME IN THE CAPTAIN'S SEAT THEN EVERYONE BETTER BE READY FOR A FOUR COST AHSOKA AND A FREE MHD IN EVERY LIST THANK YOU YOU'RE WELCOME. I love you all. Thank you for listening.
What can we say in the face of BPK's triumph? He has been a mainstay of the community for years, he is one of the leading members of the IA Continuity Project, and he is one of the most passionate members of our little slacker ship of Zion. The man, the myth, the legend. Brett Kelly. In this episode Brett gives a survey of Worlds. He provides a lot of insights as to why he took the defensive kit for Spectre, how he was able to grind out so many mirrors, and what it's like to finally make it to the top. I know you're all going to love this.
