Since the middle of season 3, the crew of the Ghost--none more than Ezra Bridger--has been begging Rebel Alliance command to send a unit to liberate his home world of Lothal. Finally, with a little help from an old underworld friend (not that one) they're doing it. But instead of knocking down the Empire... they end up knocking on a mysterious door. You wouldn't steal a Corellian corvette! Unless you're a rebel, I suppose...
A clever mix of stakes material and spiritual? A return to Lothal, only to find it terribly transformed under the industrial violence of the Empire? A series of episodes where Ezra and Sabine really click as complementary characters? Oh, we are so back. And we won't even let the kind of forgettable (but basically enjoyable) fourth episode of this set bring us down. Support the show by going to Patreon.com/civilized! We are almost at the end of Star Wars Rebels season 3! We discuss the second to last episode of the season, Zero Hour Part 1. For nearly 50 years, the Galactic Civil War—the Star Wars conflict we all know and love—was the central focus of the original Star Wars trilogy. From the early campaigns on Lothal to the epic Battle of Endor, this war shaped the galaxy. But here's the real question: How "civil" was this conflict?
Is there such a thing as having too many hot men in a Star War story? In this episode of Dark Side Divas we discuss the Star Wars Rebels episode "An inside man" (s3e10). Ezra and Kanan return to Lothal, but the Empire has complete control of the planet. Thrawn is developing a secret new weapon, and we find out who is Fulcrum. The Cantina Happy Hour crew is discussing some of their favorite story arcs from the animated Star Wars series. This week we are looking at the first two episodes of thew second season of Rebels: The Siege of Lothal: 1 & 2!
Well, that's it. Rebels is done. What a ride! From the epic action to the thrilling post-war coda, this episode encapsulated the true meaning of rebellion. We cried (a lot). "Family Reunion - And Farewell" (Season 4, Episode 15) pulls together everything the Rebels needed to pull off the biggest mission they've ever undertaken—the polestar of the whole series—the liberation of Lothal. Thrawn can't even hope to thwart them this time. But just as Rebels giveth, Rebels taketh away, and we spend time coming to terms with the sacrifices that Lothal's liberation required. This is the final countdown…before the end of Rebels!! Everything comes together in these episodes: Ahsoka, Ezra, Palpatine, the past, the future, and the necessity of sacrifice. In "A World Between Worlds" (Season 4, Episode 13), we get the answer to Ahsoka's fate from waaaaaay back in Season 3. (SHE LIVES!!!) As Ezra is forced into a devastating choice, the Phoenix cell is left with burnt bridges and scarce resources. But they are Rebels—and this is where they excel. In "A Fool's Hope" (Season 4, Episode 14) the Rebels scrape together every ally they can for a daring plan to finish this once and for all: To liberate Lothal, no matter the cost. X-wings and Major Plot Development, here we come. The rebel assault in "Rebel Assault" (Rebels S4, 9) goes off with a bang, but then goes down in flames. With our heroes on the run or worse, the Loth-wolves have important information to share with Kanan. However, "Jedi Night"(Rebels S4,10) breaks the mold about what a star wars episode is, and we are left dealing with devastating fallout both on Lothal and in the hearts of watchers. We still have more of Rebels S4, but the stakes have never been higher for what will happen on Lothal. Send Us Your Thoughts: S4 of Rebels is a short one…and new shows have come out since we started. A tension has settled over Lothal. The Empire has locked down the entire planet, and is debuting the new and improved TIE defender. Fortunately, this gives Sabine and Ezra pretty much every chance to shine. In our recap of “The Occupation” and “Flight of the Defender” (Rebels S4, 5–6) we talk about Loth-wolves, environmentalism, and the fever pitch of Imperial atrocities. And (duh) we sing a swan song to the TIE Defender Elite and why it might be even more important than the Death Star. As we return from the midseason finale, we get a trio of episodes that represent the three major emerging categories of Star Wars Rebels stories so far. One is a story driven by a cameo from the larger Star Wars universe. Another is a big swing at some brand new worldbuilding and an exploration into tone and style that is totally brand new for the show. And the third is, unfortunately (and of course), a lackluster Sabine episode that doesn't even have the decency to give her credit for her own good ideas. Ah well, maybe next time! Not to dunk on it too badly, but so little of note happened in “The Wynkahthu Job” (Rebels S3, Ep. 9) that we added “Visions and Voices” (Rebels S3, Ep. 11) to our watch this week. Combined, these episodes show that there are two Boomers inside of you—a Hondo and a Maul—and you become the one you feed. We spend quality time on Dathomir getting hassled by Nightsister ghosts, and watch Thrawn touring the facility and picking up slack on Lothal. Join us this week for an impromptu triple-header as we explore themes of sabotage, betrayal, and oppression. “Legacy” and “A Princess on Lothal” (Rebels S2, Ep. 11–12) dive deep into why and how the Force calls—and how it moves the universe. It also introduces us to sassy, 16-year-old Leia Organa on her very first mission. Cue absolute delight. We centered this week's discussion on heritage, both Ezra's and Leia's, and the gifts they've gotten from their families. This week Matthew and Riki discuss two pivotal episodes from season 4 of Star Wars Rebels. In episode 13, "A World Between Worlds," we're introduced to a mystical realm that connects all of time and space in the Star Wars universe. Ezra is able to pull Ahsoka from her fateful duel with Darth Vader in this mystical world between worlds. While captivating visually, Matthew and Riki have some concerns about introducing this level of power over time and space into the Star Wars canon. It could act as an all-powerful plot device or retcon elements, which they worry may undermine storytelling. However, the concept allows Ahsoka to realistically survive and still be unavailable during the original trilogy.Episode 14, "A Fool's Hope," brings together a lovable ragtag group including Hondo, Gregor, Wolffe, and Ketsu to help liberate Lothal. Their fierce loyalty to Ezra feels genuinely earned after years of friendship and camaraderie. Ryder's fake betrayal of the rebels fools both the audience and the arrogant Governor Pryce, contrasting her ego with Grand Admiral Thrawn's true cunning. Visually, a standout moment involves the Loth-wolves' glowing eyes emerging from darkness to terrify the imperials. After the plot discussion, Matthew and Riki go into spoilers, analyzing how these episodes connect to Ahsoka's mysterious absence after Return of the Jedi and her role in the recent Ahsoka TV show. Riki continues to be moved by the special relationship between Ezra and his master Kanan. They also recommend the new Thrawn books for more context on these events. As always, this episode offers thoughtful insight for both casual and diehard fans of Star Wars and its beloved animated series. No member bonus content for this one. We've started the conversation. With the Empire reeling from the uprisings on Ferrix and Lothal, things are looking bright for the Rebellion. Then Darth Vader shows up. In “The Siege of Lothal,” (Rebels S2 Ep. 1), Darth Vader all but rubs his hands together and cackles gleefully as he squeezes the life out of the Rebels, one A-wing at a time. Fortunately, the Spectres are made of sterner stuff. Our recap centers on the DRAMATIC tone shift from Andor to Rebels, even as the themes and plot meticulously line up. Smuggler? Such a small word. He's more of a…galactic entrepreneur. This week, our episodes (Rebels S1, 11–12, “Idiot's Array” and “Vision of Hope”) feature special guest and major scamp LANDO CALRISSIAN. We also meet the strawberry-shaped/ strawberry-slurping merchant of questionable morality, Azmorigan, and hang out with exiled senator Gall Trayvis. Hera punches every single one of them, and every single one of them deserved it. In our recap, we talk about how Lando has changed from Solo and Lando now, how Ezra's Force sensitivity is incredibly attuned to Lothal, and propaganda techniques from WWII–now. We also talk about the renowned voice actors who graced this episode and why it's so important than Ezra is being trained by the whole family. Tune in next week as we cover “Call to Action” and “Rebel Resolve” (Rebels Season 1, episodes 13–14). And make sure to take our poll below, on whether we should continue with Rebels seasons 2–4, or slot in Andor season 1! Want even more Growing Up Skywalker? Our mission in this podcast bonus series is simple: we pick a few Star Wars Rebels episodes from Season 4, do a quick summary/discussion and ask/answer the question: wtf does this have to do with the Ahsoka series? In Part 4 of Force Toast's Rebels Recap on Tap series, hosts Alyce and Laura keep things light and silly* despite that the general theme for this episode is Season 4 Is Really F*cking SAD.Oh, there's another Saxon? Well, we can't be bothered to look up his first name, so Alyce christens him D*ckhead SaxonKanan and Hera flirt on Skype, Bo-Katan puts on the homie and Ezra does Jedi leap-frog Laura's brain short circuits mid-episodeLife lesson from Force Toast: when sh*t gets sad, take a drink breakWhen one needs a ride on Lothal, is Uber Wolf Pack an option in the app, or is that feature for Force wielders only? A general review of the World Between Worlds: what it is and what it isn't.Hondo, like, really cares about Ezra. So he's gonna be in the Ahsoka show, right? RIGHT?Pryce falls for Ryder's trick, everybody point and laugh at Pryce! If you've enjoyed our Rebels Recap bonus series, reminder that we recapped Seasons 1-6 of The Clone Wars back in early 2020! In the new episode of Star Wars Rebels, we got a big piece of information...the realm within the jedi temple on Lothal. Could this place be the way Palpatine was planning to cheat death?? Was this his way of staying immortal? What if Ahsoka went in there and warned Anakin of what he will do with Order 66, and how it will actually kill Padme? What if Darth Vader went in there and told Anakin to beware of his choices? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
