In this episode of Pivot The Path, host Scott Young, PGA professional and founder of SSWING, shares insights from his return to competitive golf at the U.S. Open pre-qualifier held at Woodway Country Club in Darien, Connecticut.Faced with the challenge of no available practice round, Scott utilized the 18Birdies app to meticulously prepare a course guide before the event. This strategic approach allowed him to map out targets, identify potential trouble spots and plan smart misses, enabling confident and unemotional decision-making under pressure.Throughout the round, Scott's commitment to process and presence was evident. He focused on each shot with full attention, emphasizing the importance of putting within 10 feet—a critical factor in scoring. Scott also delved into the concept of "mental scoring," assessing his concentration on a hole-by-hole basis. This practice highlighted the value of tracking focus to enhance overall performance.Key takeaways from the round include:Process is paramount: Every shot requires full attention and commitment.Putting proficiency: Success inside 10 feet can define your score.Strategic preparation: Planning ahead builds confidence under pressure.Alignment awareness: Proper setup influences putting rhythm.Mental focus tracking: Monitoring concentration sharpens performance. This episode offers valuable takeaways for golfers seeking to improve their game through mental preparation, adaptability and a steadfast commitment to process. Sitting at work on a Friday, I opened up my golf app to find my friend on hole 8.  “Wait, how am I seeing his live scorecard? And did he just double bogey the last two holes?”  Golf apps have come a long way - beyond GPS and hazard locations.  We now have the ability to see our friends live in action, watching scores post as the round progresses.  This is genius.  And it get's better.  This is the best free golf app - reviewed by dads.   The Best Free Golf App in 2021What makes 18Birdies the best free golf app?  Free GPS for starters.  Rangefinders still serve an important role on the course - but in our tests we found 18Birdies to be within 5 yards for all tests, often coming in within 1-2 yards.  18Birdies also hosts one of the most fun features you haven't explored: Tournament Scoring.   The free tournament scoring feature is FREE and allows any user to setup a custom tournament.  It's so easy we are going to set one up for listeners - why?  For fun.  I tested it in my recent casual group and here is why it works...We had two foursomes playing for money.  These groups are competitive and want to see how scoring is taking place.  And when I look back to find my buddy in the water - I want to see his score post live.  18Birdies Golf App offers that ability.   18Birdies HandicapMy second favorite free feature on 18Birdies is their estimated handicap.  I have several friends who sparingly play golf (less than 5 rounds per year) - when it comes time to setup a friendly tournament it is near impossible to place them fairly.  If they use 18Birdies it will estimate a rough handicap.  My estimated handicap is higher than my actual handicap, but it's close enough (within .50 points).  This is especially useful for any golfers who don't want to purchase a GHIN membership.   Also in this episode: Putting DebateThe chicken or the egg.  In the putting debate - do you think line or distance is more important?  We discuss which is more important.  And like always on Birdie Dads, we disagree.  Luckily there are 3 dads and someone always loses.  With a 2-1 vote we can put to rest which part of your putting game needs to come first.   Do you like free golf stuff? Here is what we for you...Step by Step Guide to Creating Your https://www.birdiedads.com/golf-pre-shot-routine-guide/ (Golf Pre Shot Routine) Printable https://www.birdiedads.com/printable-golf-coloring-book/ (Golf Coloring Book) for Kids (Animals Golfing) https://www.birdiedads.com/golf-swing-webinar-signup/ (Golf Webinar - Speed, Power and Consistency) https://www.birdiedads.com/birdie-dad-subscribers/ (30% off coupon) on merchandise

Since their concept launch at the 2016 PGA Merchandise Show, 18Birdies has emerged as the dominant golf mobile app with over 750,000 users and growing. With their clear mission to "Inspire golfers of all generations to enhance their game, share their experiences with friends, and increase their enjoyment of golf", 18Birdies has successfully aligned the game with the lifestyle habits of a younger audience. https://uploads.fireside.fm/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/xDYofsEh.jpg Sharing the belief that technology can make a huge difference in elevating the game of golf, 18Birdies creates more ways to conveniently enjoy golf by looking to enhance and improve the entire golfing experience. Eddy realized "technology could make golf more accessible, engaging, social and fun, so when you bring all these elements together you can reshape how the game is played, perceived and experienced. To fundamentally change golf you need connectivity and integration for everything and everyone on the same platform in order for the magic to happen". There are golf apps out there that focus on one aspect of the game, but Eddy realized that to truly succeed, a mobile golf app needed to "close the circle by connecting everyone in the golf industry". 18Birdies set out to create the big, ambitious vision with a platform that delivers everything that golf can possibly do.
