Many beginner golfers struggle with getting the ball in the air, and it can be frustrating when your shots just roll along the ground. In this episode of Golf Party Live, we break it down in a fun and easy-to-understand way!We start by covering the four common mishits that keep your ball from soaring:• Topping the Ball – When you hit too high on the ball, causing it to roll instead of launch.• Whiffing the Ball – When you swing and miss completely (it happens!).• Chunking the Ball – When you hit the ground before the ball, leading to a weak or short shot.• Sculling the Ball – When you hit too low on the ball, making it shoot low and fast instead of lifting. After breaking down why these shots happen, we will share simple fixes to help you make clean contact and send your ball flying! Whether you are new to the game or just need a refresher, this episode will give you the tools to get the ball up and away.Tune in and let's get that ball in the air!

The company has genetic data of 15 million people, which could be shared with a future buyer. Here's how to delete it. Plus, an experimental coating could make golf balls roll more reliably on greens with different conditions. After 23andMe Bankruptcy, Customers Urged To Delete Their DataIf you're one of roughly 15 million people who used 23andMe to unlock information from their DNA, consumer advocates have a message for you: Delete your data. On Sunday, the company, which has customers send saliva samples for DNA analysis, filed for bankruptcy. While many customers submitted their saliva for the purpose of ancestral analysis, 85% of customers also consent to their data used for genetic disease research. As the company searches for a buyer, consumer advocates, including California Attorney General Rob Bonta, have urged customers to delete their data from 23andMe's website. 23andMe and other genetic testing companies are not subject to HIPAA, meaning health and medical records kept by 23andMe could be shared with a future buyer.Producer Kathleen Davis joins Host Flora Lichtman to discuss this and other top science stories of the week.Chemists Make A Coating That Can Slow A Golf Ball's RollWith spring here, the days are getting warmer and longer, meaning conditions are perfect for a trip to the golf course. And while golf is certainly a game of physics—force, angles, parabolas—this week researchers presented work showing that chemistry could play an important role on the golf course as well. Speaking at the meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Diego, researchers described a high performance coating that could be incorporated into the polyurethane shell of a golf ball. The hydrophilic (water-loving) coating would make tiny bits of water stick to the surface of the golf ball and sheet off, modifying the way the ball interacts with the grass of the green. That interaction, says Tom Kennedy, owner of Chemical Innovative Solutions Inc., would lead to the ball rolling more slowly and reliably, especially on “fast,” closely-cut greens in dry and windy conditions.Kennedy joins Host Ira Flatow to discuss the technology, and how hydrophilic coatings could find a home in other applications, including solar cells.Transcripts for each segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com. We also have another audio question sent in by Dear John, and this time he gives us the answer, just in case.So whether you are cooking rice, or melting gold, please enjoy this episode of the golfrules questions podcast.GRQOTW 134: In stroke play, a marker enters the scores in the wrong boxes on the scorecard, can they correct it after they have returned the scorecard, or is it too late? It is too late. Whilst the hole numbers could be changed prior to the scorecard being returned, it is too late if this is not done before the scorecard has been returned. If a marker signs in the player's spot, and the player signs in the marker's spot, and the scorecard is returned, is that also too late to correct it, or does it even need to be corrected? It does not even need to be corrected. As long as their are two signatures on the scorecard, it will be accepted.GRQOTW135: A player's ball, played from the putting green, is deflected into the hole by another player's caddie, who accidentally walked across the line of play. The original ball, or another ball, must be replaced on its orginal spot and the stroke must be replayed.GOLFRULES QUESTIONS MERCHANDISEGet yourself a Roo&Coo polo: https://golfrulesquestions.myspreadshop.com/.DO YOU HAVE A RULES OF GOLF QUESTION:Email - golfrules.questions@gmail.comWANT TO TEST YOUR RULES OF GOLF KNOWLEDGE?Head to: www.golfrulesquestions.comWANT A QUICK GOLF RULES REFERENCEHead to Instagram: @golfrules_questions (https://www.instagram.com/golfrules_questions/?hl=en)OR JOIN THE FACEBOOK COMMUNITYhttps://www.facebook.com/golfrulesquestionsLISTEN TO THE GRQ PODCAST ON APPLE OR SPOTIFYClick here: https://anchor.fm/golfrules-questionsSUBSCRIBE to GOLFRULES QUESTIONS https://bit.ly/2I8KrVH for all your golf rules#golfrules #GolfRulesQuestions #blakey

Tonight, we'll read an excerpt from The Soul of Golf by P.A. Vaile, published in 1912. Snoozecast first read this back in 2020.  The author Vaile's contributions to golf literature extended beyond mere instruction—he was an early advocate for the science of the game. His writings explored the mechanics of golf swings and course strategy, combining a passion for the sport with an analytical mind. Vaile's influence helped shape the way golf was taught and understood during the early 20th century, paving the way for the modern emphasis on technique and precision. The 15th-century Scots may have codified the game, but golf in its earliest days was far from the polished pastime we recognize today. Early versions were played with rudimentary clubs and balls made from wood or leather-stuffed feathers. One of the oldest known golf courses, the Old Course at St. Andrews, still exists today and remains a hallowed site for enthusiasts. Established in 1552, it reflects the deep historical roots of the game. St. Andrews is often referred to as the “Home of Golf,” and it's where many of the rules of modern golf were first formalized, laying the groundwork for the sport's global expansion. Curiously, golf has also found its way into the annals of literature and lore. Some tales recount how the sport's original intent was as much about leisure as it was about competition. Kings and commoners alike enjoyed the challenge of golf, and even Mary, Queen of Scots, is rumored to have played. Her passion for the game may have lent her the nickname “the first lady golfer,” further entwining golf with history and legend. — read by 'V' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! In this bite-sized podcast episode, Ophira Eisenberg and comedian Sarah Tollemache take a hilarious trip down memory lane, reminiscing about holiday shenanigans and the rollercoaster ride of parenting. They fondly recall the wild, unsupervised escapades of their childhood holidays, where the only rule was "don't break anything... especially yourself." Fast forward to today, and they marvel at how parenting has morphed into a high-stakes game of "Don't Let the Kids Out of Your Sight." Together, they poke fun at the absurdity of striving for holiday perfection and champion the idea of keeping things simple. After all, the true spirit of the season isn't found in perfectly coordinated table settings or Instagram-worthy decorations, but in the belly laughs, the togetherness, and the love that fills the room—no matter how many times the dog knocks over the Christmas tree.
