Send us a textOakmont Country Club takes center stage as the guys dive into what promises to be a brutal US Open. The fairways are narrow, the rough is overgrown, and the greens are lightning fast – exactly how golf's ultimate test should be. Stories from pros' practice rounds reveal a course that will thoroughly punish anything less than precision golf. The conversation shifts to an unexpected controversy when their golf course rankings sparked outrage among followers. Wolf Creek Golf Club's placement at #24 in the Vegas region ignited fierce debate, with many arguing it deserves top-10 national status. The hosts stand firm on their assessment, explaining that while the course offers spectacular visuals, its playability issues and marathon pace of play justified its ranking. This segment highlights how subjective course ratings can be, often influenced by what golfers are accustomed to playing.Joe shares his recent Scottsdale golf adventure, where he discovered TPC Stadium Course offered more enjoyment than he anticipated. Meanwhile, Matt provides insider perspective on why Wynn Golf Club charges $800 per round – it's intentionally priced to maintain exclusivity and cater to high-end casino patrons who view golf as merely an amenity. This discussion reveals the fascinating economics behind Vegas golf's premium experiences. The episode wraps with US Open predictions, featuring picks ranging from favorites like Scottie Scheffler to dark horses like Patrick Cantlay and Ludvig Åberg. Along the way, the guys announce plans for future equipment giveaways once they reach specific social media follower milestones – giving loyal listeners chances to win putters, drivers, and other gear. Subscribe to their channels and join the conversation about golf's biggest topics, all delivered with the authentic, unfiltered perspective that makes Chasing Daylight unique. We hope you enjoy this week's episode, and if you do, please consider leaving us a review on either Spotify or iTunes. Send us a Text Message. What if the PGA Tour's traditional tournaments are losing their allure? Join us on this week's episode of The Chasing Daylight as we debate the pressing need for innovation in golf to keep fans engaged. This episode kicks off with a fun jab at our friends in the Pacific Northwest for griping about mild weather while we roast under the Vegas sun. We recount our recent VGN Paiute tournament, showcasing how even tough conditions couldn't dampen our spirits. We also let you in on some exciting news— from hunting for a new producer to revealing the fresh LA Golf shafts being added to Matt's bag, and we question the relevance of the John Deere Classic sandwiched between major events. Will revisiting iconic courses or introducing fresh venues reignite the thrill of PGA Tour events? We discuss how tournaments like the Shriners, Harbortown, and Kapalua spark our interest and the unique joy of watching competitions at courses we've played, like Torrey Pines. Yet, the need for new, captivating courses to maintain viewer enthusiasm is glaring. We delve into how innovative broadcasting and course rotations like LIV Golf could rejuvenate the PGA Tour. We weigh in on Tom Coyne's intriguing foray into golf course design with Craig & Coyne and what this could mean for future play. Finally, a big shout-out to our Paiute tournament champs: Aaron Pusey, Alessandro Giampaolo, Rhett Michelson, and Chris Phillips! We relive some memorable moments, including an initially embarrassing shot turned positive with five birdies. As we look ahead to the Wildhorse tournament, we bring you a spirited conversation about the unexpected yet exciting appointment of Keegan Bradley as Ryder Cup captain. His humble acceptance and potential to bridge the gap between veteran players and emerging talents could signify a significant shift. Don't miss our insights on the importance of playing iconic courses like Bethpage Black and the camaraderie it fosters.Links for this episode:https://www.instagram.com/landscapesunlimited_llc/?hl=enhttps://www.instagram.com/craigandcoyne/?hl=en--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------We have a new partnership with The Golf Stop. "You cannot live the life you dreamed of of you don't live a life of risk" - Erwin McManus Pastor and author Erwin McManus continues our journey with "Chasing Daylight". To seize divine moments, we must become free to risk. God does not call us to a safe faith and Pastor McManus reminds us that faith does not remove danger; faith makes us dangerous. Like Jonathan stepping boldly into battle against the Philistines, to live life to the fullest we must be willing to trust God and step into a future we cannot predict. Too often we live invisibly to avoid conflict or the risk of failure – in our jobs, with our passions, or in our relationships – but when we choose to be seen and visible to the world for who we are, the invisible God is made known. At the end of your life, you will have either chosen to live a life of risk or you will have lived a life of regret. Choose to risk!
"Everything you do is an act of influence." - Erwin McManus Pastor and author Erwin McManus continues our journey with "Chasing Daylight". We underestimate the importance of influence when we choose to prioritize gaining success, financial gain, or command. The power of our influence cannot hindered by a lack of resources or authority. Authority shapes what a person does, but not their character; authority does not equal influence and it does not have the same result. The more energy and time you put into developing your character, the more you build into your influence. Inhale the good and wisdom that God has for you and exhale His hope and joy into others. When you keep to yourself what He's doing in your life, you don't get more air to breathe, you begin to suffocate. Everything He gives us is meant to be shared and experienced by the people in your world. Your life will be measured by your influence on others!
"Do not live a life that can be explained by you alone." - Erwin McManus "Chasing Daylight: Know That You Don't Know" message given by Erwin McManus at Mosaic Hollywood, 10/14/2018 at the 8pm gathering.
After one of the best shows we've ever put out, the Golf Gods put us back in our place. YouTube wouldn't work, Joe kept having connectivity issues, and Matt was stressed out from the moment we pushed RECORD.Nevertheless, we still managed to put out an hour of content for you! Probably the most successful Shriners tournament in recent years took place this past weekend, with Tom Kim going back-to-back and earning his third career win. Harry Hall and several other local PGA Tour Professionals had a good tournament, but the buzz was all created by Lexi Thompson, and what we believe was her excellent play for the two days she was out there.Matty G checked in with the weather FORECast for this weekend, and we covered the latest VGN event that took place out at Boulder City Muni.Matt is in a HUGE funk with his game that has now leaked into his putting. 40 Putts on Saturday was enough to send him again down the rabbit hole of what's wrong with his game.We wrapped it up by looking at the ZOZO Field and odds and made our picks for the Tournament. Thanks for checking out the show! This one was a doozie, but we pulled it off despite all the technology glitches! We'll be back next week better than ever!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you haven't checked out our NEW YouTube channel, please do and hit that Subscribe Button for us! More content is coming to that channel as Matt learns the ins and outs of making better videos. Each week, we're posting the show on there as well. Please check out one of our show supporters, FN3P Golf. You've heard of the Walk of Fame, but have you ever come across the swing of fame? Well, you're about to. This golf-themed episode is a hole-in-one, packed with our reflections on the PGA tour's annual stop in Las Vegas, the Raiders' latest victory, and a shoe update from Joe and Matt as they try out the TRUE Knit 3s. We also zoom in on a European vendor who's saying 'no' to resellers by testing customers' golfing prowess before purchase. Could this be golf's new regular? Adventure is at every turn, or should we say every swing! Episode 200Wow, it is hard to believe we have uploaded 200 of these now! Thank you to anyone who has listened and encouraged us to keep at it! We may not be the biggest or most popular golf podcast out there, but we love what we're doing and have no plans to abandon this journey! Again, thanks for all the support! We hope you enjoy this episode, and check out our YouTube channel, where we'll post the podcast video each week!Matt brought up what he thinks could be a "fix" for the Sentry Tournament of Champions. It was an interesting take, and the other guys liked it.Matt also has some new irons in the bag. He dropped Srixon like a stanky fish and switched to New Level Golf. The first significant change to his bag this year is his effort to say no to big-brand golf and show some support to the smaller, unique brands out there! The guys also recapped the ODIN Golf interview and dove into more details about the golf license required to play golf in Germany! That's not a typo. You must take a DMV-style test and pass to play public golf in Germany! Unless you're a member at Pebble Beach! HahaJoe is headed to North Carolina with Dan, Trey, and Julien. They have a great lineup, including; Tobacco Road, Southern Pines, Mid Pines, The Cradle, and maybe a few others. We'll be recapping that on next week's show.Matt Gontarek, aka "The Weatherman," makes his Chasing Daylight premier this week. Matt is a local meteorologist at FOX 5 here in Vegas, and he'll be chiming in each week, giving us a preview of the weekend weather from a golfer's perspective! We wrapped up this weeks show with a Vegas Golf Rant about golf courses in the Valley lately and the pricing that's taking place from a not-so-high-end course. Episode 189Right out the gate, if you're not listening to Birdies and Bourbon, you're missing out! Joe was a guest on their podcast this week (episode goes out 11/3), and we're big fans of what they are up to! Congrats to the Big Man Seamus Power on his win in Bermuda! Jeremy is also very thankful because he picked Seamus, which ended his winless streak dating back to the 2020-2021 season. Our favorite courses in Vegas are getting destroyed by grasshoppers. Matt was out at Paiute on Friday, and the hopper was pretty bad, but the Sun course looked untouched by the beasts. Jeremy, however, played the Snow course on Tuesday, and from the pictures he shared, the course is getting annihilated. We tried to pick the most underrated holes in Vegas, which sent us down a rabbit hole. So now we're going to figure out the most underrated holes in Vegas and the best starting hole in town as well. Off the top of our heads didn't work!We talked a little about Bandon Dunes since the Birdies and Bourbon guys are headed there later this month, and Whisky Joe has another golf trip planned! Episode 188It's kind of a slow season n the golfing world for us, even though October weather is the best time of the year to play golf in Vegas. Episode 187First, congrats to Joe and his wife, Katie, for the news that a new little one is on the way! Joe is afraid his golf life is over, but if Matt and Jeremy can do it with two kids, Joe can also! In this week's show, we talked about the VGN (Vegas Golf Network), the last tournament we just played at Boulder Creek, and Jeremy's mental collapse.Fan favorite El Dan wanted to know what Golf Superpower we would choose from a list he provided, and then we decided to come up with a few of our own. The Subtle Art Of Not Giving a F*CK, by Mark MansonClick the link below to see it on Amazon; you'll thank us later!https://amzn.to/3S9aCdZAnd it's been a while, but we did get a little bashing in of the LIV Tour. Joe has come down from his Fanboy love for LIV and had some harsh criticisms for the league. Lastly, we did a RATE RUNDOWN for the courses here in Vegas. There is no better time than NOW to tee it up in the desert, and the courses here know that.
