This week Knudson heads off to play in his annual guys golf weekend and breaks down some of the fun. David Love III is a gear guy but used a persimmon driver for almost 12 years! We check out some of the new Toulon putters that showed up on the putting green as well.
This weekend is my big guys golf trip. We have a great group of 16 guys who play a mini Ryder Cup style tournament for a trophy and major bragging rights. Trying to put together the two full sets I will bring with me. I love custom golf clubs and the My Spider GT program from TaylorMade is awesome! I built a custom Spider GT that matches my custom Stealth Plus+ driver!
Tursky is in the Motor City for the Rocket Mortgage Classic and stops by Knudson's basement studio for the show. We talk about some of Knudson's golf stuff like headcovers and memorabilia. We also break down a few equipment changes from the Rocket, like Rickie Fowler's putter changes.
BGT has been known for high end, stable putter shafts that have been all over the tour as well as in amateur bags. The new Brava is a lightweight wood shaft that is designed to increase ball speed and launch while still being extremely accurate. PXG comes in with a new 0311 Triple Forged wedge that focuses on feel, spin, and turf interaction. The high-toe design adds forgiveness while keeping the spin high and the feel soft.
This week we get David Carey on the show to talk about his first trip to The Open Championship and the experience there. He breaks down his record round of 57, where he still left a couple of shots out there! He also gets deep into all of the equipment he loves to try and tinker with, he has even won a tournament with single length irons!
The Mynt Golf Wizard Pro is their top of the line tour ball featuring an elastomer cover and 3 piece design. The ball performs well and even launches a little flatter than I expected. Big Max is the leader in pushcarts and the Blade IP is their flagship model. Folds down shockingly flat and takes about 30 seconds to unfold and put your bag on it. Such a solid cart with tons of options and accessories.
The Open Championship is over and what a great one it was. Tursky is back home so we have a late show talking about what went on and some of the big stories from Scotland. We talk about Cam Smith's win and Rory's play on Sunday. We also break down some of the equipment changes and custom accessories at the event.
Edel's new SMS irons feature movable weights to dial in the feel and add consistency to your iron shots. Once dialed in, golfers will see better accuracy and distance to go with the soft feel. The SMS irons are easy to launch and feature a mid/high flight and the thin steel face is long and forgiving.
Tom is a wonderful student and music composer who I have had the great privilege of meeting. In this episode we discuss the importance of finding your own signature swing and much more.
Tiger switches out his driver shaft for the first time in about 5 years and is now playing the Fujikura Ventus Black 6x. Tursky and Greg Moore are live from Scotland where they will be covering The Open Championship.
Finally my review of the new Titleist Wedgeworks 60 T grind wedge. The T grind is a grand built for precision wedge play and allowing the player to open the face without the leading edge coming up off the ground. I also test it out against the all new Callaway Jaws Raw Z grind lob wedge.
It is time to see who has the better WITB! Tursky and Knudson face off in a battle of golf clubs, seeing who has made the better setup. Take a listen and then let us know who's bag you like better on our Instagram account, @tg2wrx
Review of the new Callaway Jaws Raw wedge and the new Z Grind sole on the lob wedge. Great spin and improved shape make it my choice over the Jaw MD5. Strackaline's yardage and green reading books are highly detailed and catch all the slopes on the green.
Titleist just released its new TSR woods out on tour and 18 players switched into it right away. Our thoughts on the drivers and fairway woods from pictures and in-hand looks. Callaway's new Jaws Raw wedges have been on tour in a few bags already, but they officially launched this week. Brooks is headed to LIV and neither of us are shocked. We finally break down some more equipment news from The Travelers.
Reviewing Golf Pride's newest grip, the CPX. The CPX is soft, yet with great traction. The EXO Diamond pattern helps golfers by providing a larger contact patch for better control. Also touching on some tinkering I have done, or plan to do, to a bunch of my clubs.
DJ is playing a 9 wood, Brooks has a new driver and ball in play, and a ton more equipment stories from the US Open. Tursky was on site this week and has a ton of equipment stories from the US Open!
Shot Scope's new Pro LX+ is a combination of a laser rangefinder, golf GPS, and shot tracking system. The Pro LX rangefinder is lightweight, accurate, and offers all the features that you would expect. The H4 GPS unit is small but accurate and uses magnets to attach itself to the Pro LX or its own belt/bag clip. I also go for a few rounds in the new Asics Gel-Course Duo Boa shoes.
Tursky was at The Memorial where there was a TON of equipment testing going on. Adam Scott breaks down his new, custom, irons. Jordan Spieth is testing a few new putters and Carlos Ortiz is still playing some old Pings!
This week I review the new Titleist Tour Speed golf balls. The Tour Speed is a lower priced ball that still has a Urethane cover and new faster core. Very long off the tee but still offering good greenside control. Hideki wears the Asics Pro M Standard golf shoes and they are now available in the USA. The Pro M offers a ton of support and even more traction in a traditional look and feel. Stiffer than the Asics sport models but very comfortable once you break them in.
This week Tursky got to see some of Ben Hogan's prototype clubs that were from the Ben Hogan Foundation museum. Irons, woods, and even a hybrid from the 1960's that were all ahead of their time. We take some questions from Instagram and give our best answers, including our "unicorn" clubs!
Back from Pinehurst checking out Golf Pride's new headquarters and playing some golf. I have been playing the new Titleist Vokey SM9 wedge and falling for it. Also a review of the new KBS Tour Lite iron shafts.
Best way to approach Wisdom in Golf and when it is time to give yourself a break by acquiring irons that are easy to hit more consistently and have way less disparity between flush and slight mis-hits.
Greg Moore is the man who provides you with all the WITB photos from the PGA Tour on GolfWRX. He shares some stories about handling Tiger's clubs and his relationship with Joe LaCava. He lets us in on who is the hardest to photograph and shooting prototype gear on the range.
Tiger's new 3 iron is a P770 head with a Dynamic Gold Mid shaft! I have a P770 head laying around so I decided to build it up with a different shaft, but I was inspired by Tiger! Walk through a few clubs that are going into the bag this week for league. And finally review of what might be the most comfortable shoes in golf, The Asics Gel-Kayano Ace!
This week we have a great interview with Max Homa on some recent club changes. Max seems to love gear and is one of the nicest guys in golf. Justin Thomas has a new putter in the bag and we go through Jason Day's interesting WITB. A few other equipment news stories from the AT&T this week.
Cobra took one Forged Tec iron and split it into 2 options this year. The Forged Tec X is the larger iron that is pure speed and forgiveness. Almost a full club longer and with tight dispersion. The Forged Tec is for players looking for distance and feel in a smaller package. Callaway designed the new Fairway 14 and Fairway + golf bags with push carts in mind. A totally redesigned top offers a secure mounting on even the roughest terrain.
I have played some golf this past week and get into what is working and what is not out on the course. I also get time to review the new Tour Edge Exotics C722 and E722 drivers. They are both really long, low spin, and forgiving. The E722 is built to go long, high, and straight where the C722 is more compact and built for higher swing speed players.
LAB Putters CEO Sam Hahn joins me to talk about the new Mezz.1 putter. He breaks down all the tech that goes into the putter and how it works. We also talk about my experience with the putter and what has been so good about it.
Tursky asks a bunch of Pro's down at the Zurich Classic where their favorite spot to eat is in New Orleans. Cover a little bit of equipment news from the event. The Zurich is a team event and teams get to pick a song to play while walking up to the first tee. Both hosts have very different musical tastes, but do find their perfect match!
This week I start my league play! Thursday night men's league is starting and I can only bring 14 clubs, so time to narrow it down! I go through the whole bag, talking about what clubs are going in the bag and why they are. Might even be a couple spots still up in the air!
We get to speak with Masters Champion Scottie Scheffler about what he is doing with the green jacket and some of his equipment that was in the bag. We also break down the Masters and talk about some gear at the RBC.
PXG just released their new Gen5 woods and irons today and I have been hitting them for a few weeks. The new wood line is really forgiving and 2 models are built for any skill level golfer. The new irons are the best feeling that I have hit. Long and forgiving as well.
