StayLo SZN is in full swing coming off our last episode we keep that same energy and welcome Calez to the StayLo Alumni. Shawn and Bria held down the fort at MildSauce Radio while Els was out. Calez talked with us about his current project "Poppa", working with Alex Wiley and Mick Jenkins, his remix of Ye Vs. The People and what sparked that, life as a father and a artist, and of course Kanye. Aside from that Shawn and B got into usual banter like the ongoing chicken discussion...I mean this is mildsauce radio right? And Shawn shares more stories about his wild life...this one about early entrepreneurship. We live in a supply and demand world homie. I wanna dedicate this to My uncle Bo. Love You Buffalo. StayLo Forever.
With spirited vocals, hard-hitting, soul sampled beats and his political opinion about the music industry, Chicago’s Calez introduced himself to the scene in 2012 with debut mixtape “Kid With Raps” about his passion for success. After moving out of a homeless shelter with his family, Calez wrote his first raps at age 11 that would further lead him to his first studio session at age 13. While introducing former crew 2008ighties/Brkf$t Club, “Kid With Raps” attracted attention on major blogosphere such as Complex, 2dopeboyz and would also land him in Chicago’s publications The Reader and Redeye. He then released “Too Broke Tape” in 2013, later his self-titled moniker “Ceito” mixtape in 2014, attracting a loyal following and his face in the Chicago Sun-Times “Fresh faces of Chicago” cover story. Calez has memorable verses with musical peers Chance The Rapper, Mick Jenkins, Donnie Trumpet and more. His music influenced by his Chicago roots, life lessons, and artists like Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Pharrell has been performed through festivals like SXSW, NXNE, CMJ, and A3C. After producing for Alex Wiley’s “Village Party II.” Just two years after releasing “BABY” album in 2016, Calez is back better than ever before with “Poppa EP” released in March that features smash singles “Boss Sh!t & Cool w/ Alex WIley & Mick Jenkins. Radio One Chicago airs live every Thursday night from 6p to 8p cst on WLUW.org, 88.7 FM

This show is packed with opinions, and Troy Ave's character gets questioned, is he a delusional liar or a victim of being too real? Do light skin women have it easier than dark skin women dating-wise or professionally? A tense debate manifested from this. Also, the Bill O'Riley firing and the corruption that goes on at Fox News gets discussed as well. After a last-minute switch last week, we welcome singer and rapper @ThatsJeanDeaux to the program. Some of Chicago's Strongest Young Voices are also some of the city's sweetest and most somber. Jean's most recent project Soular System Vol. 1: Dark Matter[s] feels like weaving on Lake Shore Drive in a moment of reflection, grounded and free at the same time. Touted as one of Chicago's "Next Big Things" for a couple years now, Jean has stayed patient, releasing quality work of her own and lending her voice in collaboration with colleagues Mick Jenkins, Chance the Rapper, Noname Gypsy, Isaiah Rashad, Alex Wiley, and more. Hear "Soular System Vol. 1: Dark Matter[s]" at @ThatsJeanDeaux Recorded Live @WHPK 88.5FM Sept. 3, 2015 Music on this week's show: Chicago - Oddisee Glow - Jean Deaux Voodoo - Jean Deaux Pusher Man - Curtis Mayfield Who Am I - Jean Deaux Thanks to @neonpajamas for curating the show's instrumentals.
For the one year anniversary of NW3Radio, we were joined by Alex Wiley (one hour before he performed at SOBs), Angelo Baque, the Brand Director for the legendary Supreme clothing brand, and Bay Area's Iamsu!. We talked about Chicago, the Bay Area, the generation gap in New York City's scene, creativity, and what it means to be a rapper (especially in regards to freestyling). Plus, Iamsu! dropped a few bars for the people. More to come as NW3Radio enters year number 2!
In this Episode of #BrooklynKnows we talk about Jay Z's presence and beef with Harry Belafonte, new hip hop artists on the scene, and much much more.

It's THE SESSION! Starring special guest DJ Mr. Phantastik, and new music from Talib Kweli, Emilio Rojas, YP, Alex Wiley, Action Bronson, Freddie Gibbs, and more.
