The Loaded Radio Podcast Cranks Up the Intensity with NOTHING MORE & NAPOLEON! Brace yourselves, metalheads, because The Loaded Radio Podcast is about to unleash a double-shot of hard rock and heavy metal fury! This week's episode features the chart-topping vocalist Jonny Hawkins, frontman of the three-time Grammy-nominated NOTHING MORE! Fresh off the heels of their upcoming album "Carnal" (dropping June 28th!), Jonny dives deep into the creative firestorm behind their most focused, adventurous, and intense music yet. The LP features 15 songs with the San Antonio, Texas-born quartet's most focused, adventurous, and intense music to date, including their current radio single "If It Doesn't Hurt" which is currently in the Top 10 at No. 9 on the Active Rock radio charts and rising. Recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Drew "WZRD BLD" Fulk (DISTURBED, MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, A DAY TO REMEMBER) with mixing and mastering by Zakk Cervini (LIMP BIZKIT, MGK, BRING ME THE HORIZON),"Carnal" unites NOTHING MORE's trademark introspective philosophical lyrics and unapologetically massive anthems with in-your-face rockers designed for an all-encompassing audience. But wait, there's more! The high-voltage Canadian outfit NAPOLEON joins the party in the second half. Renowned for their explosive live shows that leave audiences breathless, NAPOLEON brings the energy with stories from their festival conquests (NXNE, Canadian Music Week) and epic shared stages with ESCAPE THE FATE and SINGLE MOTHERS. Guitarist/Vocalist Jon Elmaleh spills the secrets behind their electrifying performances and discusses the group's new EP "Dear God". So crank up the volume, buckle up, and prepare for a wild ride on this week's episode of The Loaded Radio Podcast! You won't want to miss it.

Bonus episode! I was asked to sit in on CFRC Radio's new music show, This Just In! on Thursday, 6 June at 10 AM. This show was put together 3 minutes before broadcast, and that is simply the cut and thrust of live radio! I picked out some of my favourite recent releases you may be unfamiliar with, and artists playing North by North East festival in Toronto next weekend. Coming for you in this playlist: indie, pop, hip hop, punk, rock music so cool you need to wear shades to listen to it (context for the cover art). Also, apologies for the first link of the show, I had the wrong mic on in the studio, so what you hear is what the mic could pick up of me from across the room. Artists played: Sofiacide, Ballsy, shef's kiss, Tiny Horse, charlieeee, Luscious, Perennial, Tapir!, Pet Shop Boys, TOBi, 4sante, The Anti-Queens, Gurriers, Brògeal, Täbï Yösha *A correction: Brògeal are a Scottish band from Falkirk, not an Irish band. Five days in May isn't just the title of a great Blue Rodeo song. It's also a way to describe the upcoming East Coast Music Awards. It's their 35th Anniversary event, back in Halifax where it all began. And after two years of virtual events, this one is happening in person, in venues all across HRM. For a look back and a look ahead, we spoke with CEO of the East Coast Music Association, Andy McLean. He's a former member of the 1980's band The Tenants, a music industry insider, a co-founder of NXNE and now CEO of ECMA.
With an evocative voice that captivates her audience, Paige Warner creates music that sits between R&B and singer-songwriter with soul-inspired vocal licks layered on catchy hooks and rhythms. Paige began singing at a young age and made her debut into the music world by performing for coins at a local outdoor market in her hometown in Ontario. Her love for music never dwindled, as she went on to feature at such festivals as NXNE, Owen Sound's Summerfolk, TD Harbour Nights, Paisley Blues Fest, and opened for iconic artists including Ron Sexsmith and MONOWHALES. With continued praise for the quality of her live shows, “She's obviously a born entertainer. She has crazy stage presence. She held the whole room in the palm of her hand. She just had to sing those first few notes and she captivated everyone. She's just super talented.” (The Observer), combined with the impact of her recorded tracks, “Paige Warner crafted a much needed piece of art...” (SwanoDown), it is clear why her dedicated fan base and community continues to grow. Paige Warner's captivating voice is often what draws people in. However, she is skilled with more than just her voice, regularly accompanying herself with piano, guitar, or inviting her live backup band to the stage. You can expect to hear a mix of originals as well as an exciting array of covers that are molded to her style at live shows. Listeners have compared Paige's music to that of Jessie Ware, Jeremy Zucker, Lianne La Havas, and Alicia Keys. Paige's career as an independent artist began in 2018 with the release of her debut EP, Revealed, that launched her into R&B and pop. She continued to grow and created some of her audience favorites, “I Don't Need Boys” and “Lions”, in 2019. Her more recent singles, “People Pleasin”, “Do You Remember”, and “Liquor”, have shown the depth of her creative growth and lyrical tenderness as she creates an “...overall warm atmosphere that allows for her luscious vocals and storytelling to soar” (Caesar Live N Loud). Her music is ever-evolving with two new singles, “Right Thing” and “Lose Lose”, that hint at Warner's coined “Outlaw Blues-Pop”. With over 70,000 streams on Spotify alone, Paige Warner continues to garner media attention for her reach beyond the borders of her hometown and into the playlists and hearts of fans around the globe. Growing up in a musical family and community shaped the formative years of Paige's life. She began taking piano lessons when she was a child and later picked up the guitar. However, singing was always her greatest love. Paige wrote in a journal at the age of 7, “I want to be a singer more than anything when I grow up but I haven't told anyone yet.” She began songwriting in her early teen years and grew to love this as a form of expression and an outlet for the turmoil's of life. Paige's community welcomed her as a young musician and encouraged her as she played many live shows in her local area. Paige also gained experience featuring at festivals and songwriting showcases as well as collaborating with seasoned and upcoming musicians alike. The young artist won a local singing competition, Wellesley Idol, and was a youth discoveries winner at Summerfolk, a finalist on The Shot Canada Season 7, recipient of the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund in 2021, and winner of the Owen Sound Arts and Culture Emerging Artist Award in 2022. Warner's ultimate drive in life and music is to create moments for people to feel seen, whether in their sadness and pain, happiness and love, or confusion and uncertainty. Music has been Paige's greatest comfort through so many stages of life, so she strives to create that experience for her audience. With new music on the way, Paige plans to keep releasing songs, creating intimate concert experiences, and spreading love and connection through her music. #paigewarner #singer #songwriter #owensoundontario #musician #popmusic #R&Bmusic #livewithcdpsportstalk #podcast #guest #livestream #youtube #facebook #twit

Today on the Daily Brief, FESTIVAL SEASON IS BACK! Michael Hollett is the President of NXNE and we talk about the new plans and the new look for this year's festival. Michael says there is going to be a special international showcase featuring the top 10 emerging international hip hop performers. They will spend the week at Hip Hop House, which will be set up on the top floor of the Gladstone Hotel. It's free for talent to apply and Michael's promising low cost fees for you to take in a show. NXNE runs June 14-19, 2022!
On the podcast this week, Canadian Musician Editor-in-Chief Michael Raine is joined by Andre Kaden Black, who has a multi-faceted career as a producer, songwriter, musician, artist development, creative director, and more. With two decades of experience in the music industry, Andre has written for indie and major labels across Canada, Asia, and the United States, including Sony/ATV, Warner, EMI, Atlantic Records, Curve Music, 21 Entertainment, and Arista/BMG. He has also toured extensively across North America and Asia with artists such as Alicia Keys, One Republic, and Jason Mraz. Andre has been featured in Professional Sound Magazine, Canadian Musician, and has been invited to numerous major music conferences including Canadian Music Week, NXNE, The Shot, and Toronto's Indie Week, as a performer, panelist, and judge. In this wide-ranging conversation, Andre talks about what he learned as a songwriter during his years in Nashville, and compares that style of songwriting with his work as a pop topline writer. Andre and Mike also discuss artist development, creativity and work ethic, royalties and rights, and more.
Colin Fisher listens to himself, and shares the deep wisdom in this episode. We talk Alexander Technique, Stratford, Bieber, music festivals and much more. The audio quality may be a little dicey, but don't turn that shit down like those wankers from NXNE -- crank it!
Apologies for the weeklong delay but we are back for a special episode. We are pleased to have our first international guest, Sam Nicholson from Australia's Quivers joins us. The band writes infectious pop songs that deal with dark subject matter while also prompting us to hum along with jangly hooks and sweet sweet harmonies! Despite having their 2020 US tour and NXNE performance cancelled due to COVID, Quivers found heavy rotation on KEXP and released their take on R.E.M's Out of Time. We had a great chat with Sam where we discuss, Rickenbacker guitars, age differences, Mike Mills outfits and, Shiny Happy People. I was introduced to his music initially through the group The Posterz, I clearly remember watching the video for The Bass Song and I was hooked. When I got the opportunity to do music programming for Manifesto Festival, I booked The Posterz to perform at Yonge and Dundas Square in 2015. Kris was back in Toronto during NXNE and he's got a new project out titled “Spirit Mode Vol.1” and from our conversation, this is just the beginning of a lot more music to come. We talked about why the youth don't mess with anything, why it's important to live life, get outside and experience things to make good art and so much more. My special guest today is the artist Nate Husser, he's ⅓ of the group called The Posterz, he's from Montreal and performed at NXNE here in Toronto. I love the setting of this interview because it reminds me of when I first started doing interviews, with my portable recorder, anywhere and everywhere, I caught up with Husser on the west end of Toronto. We did his interview in his car, in a parking lot, we talked about how disrespect is inspiring Husser, how he learned about not having regret's starting at the age of 5 and so much more.Hosted by: Adulis "Chedo" MokananProducers: Jessica Persadie, Lidia Abraha, Chedo.Photography by: Mac DowneyEach and every Wednesday we'll be uploading a brand new interview with a guest we feel that you should know about. Our guest today is Aaron Livingston who goes by Son Little, a Grammy Award-winning producer, singer, and songwriter born from Philadelphia, PA. One of my favourite songs, I've had on repeat by Son Little is his song “Lay Down” which has played close to 8 million times on Spotify. Son Little has toured the world with artists as diverse as Leon Bridges, Kelis, Mumford & Sons, in addition to his own headlining runs. I caught up with Son Little literally before his set at NXNE. We talked about how constraints breed creativity, the impact his environment has had on his songwriting, how the joy of being on stage helped him overcome his fear of being a solo artist and so much more.Enter for a chance to win a pair of tickets to WayHome Music & Arts festival http://bit.ly/2tozhAlSubscribe to The Come Up Show Podcast on your favourite platform: http://bit.ly/2k57m7rShow us love and leave us a review: bit.ly/tcuspodcastreviewJoin our newsletter: bit.ly/tcusnewsletterCheck out the new book "Stop Playing By Their Rules: An Artist Guide On How To Market To Fans" bit.ly/2kgGzEVSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/thecomeupshow. Welcome to episode #107 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. From the west coast to the east coast - I've been to British Columbia and back. But, this week I'm headed to Toronto for three excellent events (links below). To get you psyched about the content, I had the pleasure of having a conversation (that finished about an hour ago) with Douglas Rushkoff who is not only giving the closing keynote at the From Mass To Grass - Word of Mouth Marketing Conference put on by the CMA - Canadian Marketing Association, but is also the best-selling author of books like Cyberia, Media Virus, Get Back In The Box And More. He's also the guy behind the amazing PBS Frontline documentaries, The Merchants of Cool and The Persuaders. Enjoy the conversation...
