Cory Wong will wow you with his five hot takes. Here are the hot takes this week: Hot Take 1: Whether or not they release another record, Sugar Ray might have the greatest Spotify top 5 of all-time.Hot Take 2: Smash Mouth’s “Fush Yu Mang” and “Astro Lounge” are two of the greatest produced albums of all-time.Hot Take 3: They might want to revisit the mix on The Doobie Brothers’ “Takin’ It to the Streets”; the bass is ridiculously loud.Hot Take 4: Earth, Wind & Fire could’ve used another take on “September”. The trumpet and bass lines are pretty off at times.Hot Take 5: All of Cory’s favorite guitar tones he’s ever recorded have come from going DI and using plugins, not amps.Find out more from Cory Wong at www.corywongmusic.com. Find more from Dave Barnes at DaveBarnes.com. American Songwriter Podcast Network

It's our anniversary, and Harrison has brought a nostalgic favorite from his childhood, Smash Mouth's sophomore album Astro Lounge. In our discussion, we cover... The long shadow that a hit like "All Star" casts over the rest of the album, and all the "All Star but" memes The first albums Jon and Harrison bought for themselves The question of "Who is this album for?" (Spoiler alert: The answer is "Harrison") A probably-too-long aside about how Shrek holds up Smash Mouth's strange affectation of "cool" on this album, as though they don't know what "cool" actually is Harrison's surprising take on the album's reggae song How the pop perfection of "When the Morning Comes" belies a strange structure The origins of "Can't Get Enough of You Baby" Jon wonders what's driving "I Just Wanna See" Our picks for key track and a preview of next week's episode! Come join us for an hour of thoughtful and good-humored commentary, and we'll catch you on the B-side! Kid / Endo / Wally / GDub / JMac  - Kid kicks off the show letting all these other Goin' Deep Shows that we're coming after you ya fucking retards. Lets all cool it now with the word Podcasting.  Nobody fucking uses an iPod anymore.  Your show is your show and a podcast is a fucking lame word to use for this new fangled bullshit you figured out. Kid lets everyone know they are the start of their family legacy simply because of the internet and the damn cameraphone. We've decided that being locked off from the rest of the world is the way to be. We call Jmac and he sounds about as happy as someone getting a colonoscopy. You can almost hear the half attempt at a smile through the phone. Kid talks about some woman who was a stump at the local walmart. Wally tells us he's got his gummy game on full effect and GDub sounds like a fucking robot.  Wally and JMac tell us they can't get Coronavirus because of the Astro Lounge. We do our death count and Michigan is in the lead. GDub tells us how to raise your children right and what to listen to. Kid rants about sites that suggest the GDS is something good to listen to and we wrap it gallup with A classic clip from The Wally and the Wolf episode from way the fuck back in 2006. Listen in and go deep.

Has there been a bigger punchline of a pop rock act in recent years than Smash Mouth? All the San Jose-based band has ever wanted to do was produce sunny, playful, and frequently retro-tinged pop songs, only to face relentless mockery as their careers have developed. This reputation as a pop rock punching bag has only increased since reaching memetic status in the deepest, dankest depths of the internet. This ridicule can surely be traced back to the album which brought them commercial success: 1999's Astro Lounge, which at the time was critically acclaimed, built upon the massively successful lead single "All-Star", which appeared in films like Mystery Men, Rat Race, and most notably the Shrek franchise.Which brings us to today, where on a new episode of Jukebox Zeroes, Lilz & Patrick are joined by Surprise Party bassist/vocalist Jeff Silva to figure Astro Lounge out. For a single song to have generated miles and miles worth of internet memes, jokes, and references, the album it's attached to would either have to be very good or very bad.
