In this episode, Craig and Olivia sit down with New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kennedy Ryan to talk about the power of romance, the craft of building interconnected worlds, and why representation—on and off the page—matters. In the wake of her latest novel's release, Can't Get Enough, Kennedy shares how her emotionally rich, socially conscious love stories give voice to characters and communities often overlooked, and why she considers rest a form of resistance. The conversation explores the artistry of series writing, the importance of friendships and family relationships in romance, and her passionate advocacy for audiobooks as an equally valid form of reading. Episode 188: Depeche Mode – Speak & Spell (1981) Part 5 (Featuring Will Crewdson) With this fifth installment, Brian and Sarah wrap up their discussion of Depeche Mode's debut album. Our hosts have been covering the US version of Speak & Spell, so there's only one more song on that release to be discussed. Fortunately, they always do an Extra Credit section at the end of an album, so the song that's missing from the US version will get some attention then. The last track on Depeche Mode's 1981 release is a little ditty called “Just Can't Get Enough.” The US album features the extended, “Schizo Mix,” which our hosts do talk about in some detail, but there's more focus put on the single version. Our hosts take a deep dive into “Just Can't Get Enough,” talking about the usual things like chart positions, reviews, the record sleeves, and the recording of the song. And, for the first time on this album, there's even a video to discuss, much to the delight of Brian and Sarah. “Just Can't Get Enough” was a pretty important song for Depeche Mode when it was released, and its importance in the world of synthpop and 80s music in general has only increased with time. Our hosts explore the legacy of the song and its place in pop culture over the past four decades. There are dozens of cover versions of “Just Can't Get Enough,” and as Brian and Sarah start talking about them, they decide to take a chance and call up someone they know who has done a cover version of this song, to see if he's available to chat. After they finish talking about “Just Can't Get Enough,” Brian and Sarah move on to the “Extra Credit” portion of the episode, which in this case ends up being two parts. The first part is about the song missing from the US version of Speak & Spell, “I Sometimes Wish I Was Dead.” The second part is about Vince Clarke's departure from Depeche Mode. Additionally, our hosts have the pleasure of sharing some Speak & Spell memories recorded by listeners. It's then time, at long last, for the final evaluations and record-adapter ratings. Sarah goes first, and as usual, Brian is concerned about what kind of rating she'll give, as she's a harsher critic. Brian, on the other hand, is a self-professed Vince Clarke fanatic, so it's less of a concern that he'll give a low rating. But how high does he go? Listen to find out! First up on the podcast, Online News Editor David Grimm brings stories on peacock feathers' ability to emit laser light, how anteaters have evolved at least 12 times, and why we should be thanking ketchup for our French fries. Next on the show, rorqual whales, such as the massive blue whale, use a lunging strategy to fill their monster maws with seawater and prey, then filter out the tasty parts with baleen sieves. Lunging for food when you weigh 100 tons seems like it would be an energetically expensive way to meet your dietary needs. But as Ashley Blawas, a postdoctoral researcher at the Hopkins Marine Station at Stanford University, describes in Science Advances this week, lunge-feeding whales have a few tricks up their sieves and use much less energy than predicted. IVF chains in India aren't deterred by paltry things like probabilities. They've made IVF the new C-section—essentially, a revenue-generating procedure pushed before natural alternatives are even considered. All at 4X the cost of a C-section, or around Rs 2 lakh for a single cycle. The result is a $1.4 billion IVF market in India—10 times the market for cataract surgery, the most common procedure worldwide.Unsurprisingly, venture-capital and private-equity firms have swooped in for the kill. That this growth is coming at the cost of quality care is the real problem. Tune in.Daybreak is produced from the newsroom of The Ken, India's first subscriber-only business news platform. Last night's Fated Mates Live was so much fun, but now we're back in your earholes again. It's time again for our annual Sarah MacLean deep dive (with no spoilers!). If you are interested in reading some of these columns, check out By The Book: Writers on Literature and the Literary Life, published in 2015. The books on Sarah's nightstand were: The Second Coming by Carter Sherman, It's a Love Story by Annabel Monaghan, Can't Get Enough by Kennedy Ryan, and Full Bloom by Francesca Serritella. When is enough, enough? The illusion of enough is one that so many of us chase after. When I get enough time, enough money, enough confidence, then I'll be good. What if the truth is, you will never have enough to feel like you've arrived. Jesus is our only source of enough.

She opens up about autism advocacy, motherhood, depression, and why it's critical to normalize blended families, child-free women, and Black love on bookshelves and beyond. Plus, she gives listeners a behind-the-scenes look at her upcoming Peacock TV adaptation, dream collaborations, and the inspiration behind Can't Get Enough.
