On a smoky new episode of HOW DO YOU DO, FELLOW KIDS? we're slamming java and puffing darts with Jim Jarmusch in the all-star black and white anthology film COFFEE AND CIGARETTES. Spun off from a series of previous caffeine-drenched shorts (several of which are included here) from as early as the mid-80s, you get interesting collections of actors and musicians (RZA & GZA & Bill Murray! Steve Coogan and Alfred Molina! The White Stripes! Cate Blanchett!) pontificating about a variety of subjects while downing the titular combo. It's all good fun, and you get to hear us talk about it, along with the latest Steve Buscemi news. Enjoy! This week we take a look at some of our favorite spots in our home state of Pennsylvania, From historic sites to nature to amusement parks, there is a lot of diversity. Then we review the White Stripes album Get Behind Me Satan with predictable results and the movie The Girl On the Third Floor.
Whether or not you think Rage Against the Machine is nu-metal, we can all agree on one thing: they definitely did not like each other while making this record, which stands as their last–to date–of original material. Some bands thrive on the conflict though, and this album has bangers upon bangers that stand the test of time and while "Evil Empire" and their self-titled debut may get more of the plaudits, this is a worthy ender to the RATM trilogy. We also get deep into the Zach de la Rocha mythos, how the band managed their conflicts and potentially differing politics at the time, and this record informs why they perhaps haven't gotten back together to make anything new ever since. Plus, Bryan gives us his comprehensive review of the Sonic Temple Music Festival. If you want more reviews of many more things, you can donate to our Patreon! For just $4/month at patreon.com/thepodkast, you'll get access to THREE bonuses every single month, including last month, where we had our buddy and White Stripes podcaster Ryan Schaap on to discuss Loathe's great "I Let It In and It Took Everything". Another can't miss edition focuses on the refreshing Rock Hall of Fame improvements, anniversaries, tributes and more spotlighting George Wendt, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Cher, The White Stripes, The Who, Counting Crows, robust ticket prices, Iggy Pop, Foo Fighters, and others. John Mulaney's bold case for inducting Weird Al Yankovic into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Mulaney credits Weird Al's parody “Smells Like Nirvana” for introducing him to Nirvana's iconic “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” sparking a debate about the parody legend's influence on music and culture. Jeff and Jeremy break down Weird Al's chart-topping success, sold-out tours, and undeniable impact, comparing him to this year's Hall of Fame inductees like The White Stripes, Soundgarden, Outkast, Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, and Bad Company. Is Weird Al more deserving than some of these icons? Jeff and Jeremy weigh the pros and cons, reminiscing about Al's hilarious costume changes, radio fake-outs with hits like “Eat It,” and his unique ability to transform serious songs into comedic gold. Tune in for a fun, nostalgic discussion on whether the king of parody belongs in the Hall—and why Mulaney's Rolling Stone shoutout might just make it happen!

"Sprinter" The Florida-born Cat Ridgeway is speeding into national prominence. Or, to be more specific, she's sprinting there. Ridgeway's new album Sprinter is an adrenalized blast of hook-filled rock and roll, howling blues and scruffy pop that's one of the most refreshing listens of the year. A commanding presence with charisma to burn, Ridgeway, along with her band the Tourists, are full of a howling punk-rock electricity that summons everyone from the White Stripes to the Foo Fighters. Now Ridgeway is a self-taught musician who plays harmonica, trumpet, trombone, mandolin, bass, piano and guitar and that's incredibly impressive, but having spoken to her, she has an autodidact streak that runs through her life. Hence the reference I made to coffee earlier, but I'll let Cat tell you all about that. Named Orlando's Best Singer-Songwriter for the last three years, Ridgeway has played with Houndmouth, Arcade Fire and Lucy Dacus and she's no stranger to playing music festivals around the country. She's a typhoon of positive energy and you're going to love her. www.catridgewaymusic.com (http://www.catridgewaymusic.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers Bluesky + IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

They reflect on the vocal power and emotional resonance of Cocker's performances, the timeless grooves of Bad Company, and Checker's role in shaping early rock dance culture.Next up, they shift to iconic voices and game-changers of the '80s and '90s. Cyndi Lauper and Salt N Pepa spark discussion on pop's evolution and hip-hop's expanding influence on the Rock Hall. OutKast's induction offers a springboard into the genre-defying brilliance of André 3000 and Big Boi, while Soundgarden's inclusion brings a reflective moment on grunge, Chris Cornell's legacy, and the band's impact on alternative rock. The duo also delves into the raw garage rock revivalism of The White Stripes and the poetic lyricism of cult-favorite Warren Zevon, dissecting how both acts carved unique paths in music history. Their conversation highlights how the Hall is slowly broadening its definition of rock — and why that matters.Beyond the performers, Professor Aubrey and Tim celebrate the often unsung heroes of music with the inductions of Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, Carol Kaye, and Lenny Waronker. From Bell's lush Philadelphia soul arrangements to Kaye's legendary bass lines, they shine a spotlight on the behind-the-scenes talent that shaped the sound of generations. To close out the episode, the hosts revisit their predictions from Episode 401, where they each chose who they believed should be inducted this year. With the full 2025 class revealed, the friendly rivalry comes to a head as they tally up their correct picks. Who had the better crystal ball? Choreographer Sir Wayne McGregor is one of the most acclaimed, innovative and influential figures in contemporary dance. His works are often the result of creative collaborations with artists, musicians, filmmakers, or with scientists to explore technological issues. In 2006 he was appointed as Resident Choreographer at the Royal Ballet. He has created more than 20 new works at Covent Garden in that time, including Chroma, set to music by Joby Talbot and The White Stripes, and Woolf Works, a full-length ballet based on the life and writings of Virginia Woolf. More recently, McGregor brought the post-apocalyptic vision of Margaret Atwood to the stage in his ballet MaddAddam, based on the writer's acclaimed trilogy of novels. He has worked as a movement director on films including Harry Potter Goblet Of Fire and Mary Queen Of Scots, collaborated with bands including Radiohead and Chemical Brothers, and choreographed the virtual concert, ABBA Voyage. In October 2025, Somerset House in London will mount a landmark exhibition dedicated to McGregor's trailblazing collaborations that have radically defined how we think about performance, movement, and the body. Having won numerous awards, including two Oliviers, Sir Wayne McGregor was knighted in 2024.Wayne McGregor talks to John Wilson about his childhood in Stockport, where he took dance classes and was inspired by John Travolta's moves in Saturday Night Fever. He recalls the house and techno music of the late 80s when he was a student, and how the freedom of expression he felt on nightclub dance-floors informed his style of choreography. Whilst living in New York after leaving university, Wayne came across an open-air performance by the legendary American choreographer Merce Cunningham, whose company was dancing to live music conducted by the avant-garde composer John Cage. It was a chance encounter that had a profound impact on McGregor. He also discusses how science and technology has been a major thematic influence on much of his work in recent years, and how AI has been used to create new works through analysis of physical movement and artistic expression.Producer Edwina Pitman
