Another can't miss edition focuses on the refreshing Rock Hall of Fame improvements, anniversaries, tributes and more spotlighting George Wendt, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Cher, The White Stripes, The Who, Counting Crows, robust ticket prices, Iggy Pop, Foo Fighters, and others. Always an imformative blast!
John Mulaney's bold case for inducting Weird Al Yankovic into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Mulaney credits Weird Al's parody “Smells Like Nirvana” for introducing him to Nirvana's iconic “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” sparking a debate about the parody legend's influence on music and culture. Jeff and Jeremy break down Weird Al's chart-topping success, sold-out tours, and undeniable impact, comparing him to this year's Hall of Fame inductees like The White Stripes, Soundgarden, Outkast, Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, and Bad Company. Is Weird Al more deserving than some of these icons? Jeff and Jeremy weigh the pros and cons, reminiscing about Al's hilarious costume changes, radio fake-outs with hits like “Eat It,” and his unique ability to transform serious songs into comedic gold. Tune in for a fun, nostalgic discussion on whether the king of parody belongs in the Hall—and why Mulaney's Rolling Stone shoutout might just make it happen!

"Sprinter" The Florida-born Cat Ridgeway is speeding into national prominence. Or, to be more specific, she's sprinting there. Ridgeway's new album Sprinter is an adrenalized blast of hook-filled rock and roll, howling blues and scruffy pop that's one of the most refreshing listens of the year. A commanding presence with charisma to burn, Ridgeway, along with her band the Tourists, are full of a howling punk-rock electricity that summons everyone from the White Stripes to the Foo Fighters. Now Ridgeway is a self-taught musician who plays harmonica, trumpet, trombone, mandolin, bass, piano and guitar and that's incredibly impressive, but having spoken to her, she has an autodidact streak that runs through her life. Hence the reference I made to coffee earlier, but I'll let Cat tell you all about that. Named Orlando's Best Singer-Songwriter for the last three years, Ridgeway has played with Houndmouth, Arcade Fire and Lucy Dacus and she's no stranger to playing music festivals around the country. She's a typhoon of positive energy and you're going to love her. www.catridgewaymusic.com (http://www.catridgewaymusic.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers Bluesky + IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

In this week's episode of Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd dive deep into the just-announced 2025 Class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With their usual mix of thoughtful analysis, historical insight, and a healthy dose of nerdy passion, the duo breaks down the list of official inductees and shares their thoughts on what each artist or contributor brings to the legacy of rock and popular music. The conversation kicks off with a celebration of long-overdue recognition, as they discuss the inclusion of Bad Company, Joe Cocker, and the energetic pioneer Chubby Checker. They reflect on the vocal power and emotional resonance of Cocker's performances, the timeless grooves of Bad Company, and Checker's role in shaping early rock dance culture.Next up, they shift to iconic voices and game-changers of the '80s and '90s. Cyndi Lauper and Salt N Pepa spark discussion on pop's evolution and hip-hop's expanding influence on the Rock Hall. OutKast's induction offers a springboard into the genre-defying brilliance of André 3000 and Big Boi, while Soundgarden's inclusion brings a reflective moment on grunge, Chris Cornell's legacy, and the band's impact on alternative rock. The duo also delves into the raw garage rock revivalism of The White Stripes and the poetic lyricism of cult-favorite Warren Zevon, dissecting how both acts carved unique paths in music history. Their conversation highlights how the Hall is slowly broadening its definition of rock — and why that matters.Beyond the performers, Professor Aubrey and Tim celebrate the often unsung heroes of music with the inductions of Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, Carol Kaye, and Lenny Waronker. From Bell's lush Philadelphia soul arrangements to Kaye's legendary bass lines, they shine a spotlight on the behind-the-scenes talent that shaped the sound of generations. To close out the episode, the hosts revisit their predictions from Episode 401, where they each chose who they believed should be inducted this year. With the full 2025 class revealed, the friendly rivalry comes to a head as they tally up their correct picks. Who had the better crystal ball? Tune in to find out!As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song.

Choreographer Sir Wayne McGregor is one of the most acclaimed, innovative and influential figures in contemporary dance. His works are often the result of creative collaborations with artists, musicians, filmmakers, or with scientists to explore technological issues. In 2006 he was appointed as Resident Choreographer at the Royal Ballet. He has created more than 20 new works at Covent Garden in that time, including Chroma, set to music by Joby Talbot and The White Stripes, and Woolf Works, a full-length ballet based on the life and writings of Virginia Woolf. More recently, McGregor brought the post-apocalyptic vision of Margaret Atwood to the stage in his ballet MaddAddam, based on the writer's acclaimed trilogy of novels. He has worked as a movement director on films including Harry Potter Goblet Of Fire and Mary Queen Of Scots, collaborated with bands including Radiohead and Chemical Brothers, and choreographed the virtual concert, ABBA Voyage. In October 2025, Somerset House in London will mount a landmark exhibition dedicated to McGregor's trailblazing collaborations that have radically defined how we think about performance, movement, and the body. Having won numerous awards, including two Oliviers, Sir Wayne McGregor was knighted in 2024.Wayne McGregor talks to John Wilson about his childhood in Stockport, where he took dance classes and was inspired by John Travolta's moves in Saturday Night Fever. He recalls the house and techno music of the late 80s when he was a student, and how the freedom of expression he felt on nightclub dance-floors informed his style of choreography. Whilst living in New York after leaving university, Wayne came across an open-air performance by the legendary American choreographer Merce Cunningham, whose company was dancing to live music conducted by the avant-garde composer John Cage. It was a chance encounter that had a profound impact on McGregor. He also discusses how science and technology has been a major thematic influence on much of his work in recent years, and how AI has been used to create new works through analysis of physical movement and artistic expression.Producer Edwina Pitman

The hosts share their thoughts on the inductees and notable snubs like Phish and Billy Idol. The crew debates the merits of bands naming songs after themselves and the impact of these iconic artists on the music industry.Ben's humorous take on Bad Company's song naming: "Naming your album your band is the lamest thing ever."KT's witty remark about Chubby Checker: "He's got loose hips, and they wanna honor him for that, I guess."The lively discussion about potential reunions for bands like Outkast and The White Stripes.
Dive into the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction drama, sparking heated debates over Styx's shocking snub despite selling 50 million albums. Is the Hall favoring “irrelevant” acts like Oasis or Phish's cult-following jam band vibes over rock legends? Listeners flood the lines with spicy takes—Doug's ready to “duke it out” over Jeff's White Stripes vs. Led Zeppelin comparison, insisting Jack White's just a Robert Plant wannabe. Meanwhile, Mr. Rat Pack Can Dance schools Jeff on comma usage with a hilarious “Let's eat, Grandpa” jab, and Trump Hater Rhonda stirs the pot with a hypothetical: What if California, the world's fourth-largest economy, split from the U.S.? Jeremy crunches the numbers, proving the U.S. would still top China's economy, but listener Daniel reminds everyone of California's massive deficits. From Canada-for-California trade fantasies to nostalgic '80s California dreams, this episode is a rollercoaster of laughs, rants, and listener chaos. Send us a textWhat does it mean to witness true musical spontaneity in an era when most concerts feel meticulously scripted? After following Jack White's No-Name Tour through three Midwest cities in a single week, I discovered the answer—and it forever changed how I view live music.Standing at the rail for consecutive nights in St. Louis, Kansas City, and Omaha, I watched as White and his band delivered three completely different performances without using setlists. The musical telepathy required is astounding—his drummer never taking his eyes off Jack, waiting for subtle cues that indicate which song comes next. His guitar tech orchestrates a complex dance of instruments, untangling cords and facilitating seamless transitions between songs that weren't planned moments before.Kansas City delivered the most electric night, with White feeding visibly off an enthusiastic crowd, even performing without his guitar for the first time in my fifteen shows of seeing him. Then came Omaha—a businesslike performance without audience acknowledgment, zero White Stripes songs, and not a single word of banter. This wasn't disappointing but fascinating—the realization of White's expressed desire to perform a show featuring only his solo material without saying a word. The undisputed highlight across all venues was "Archbishop Harold Holmes" from White's latest album—a song that transforms into a quasi-religious experience live. This new material deserves as much recognition as his White Stripes catalog, representing an artist who continues to evolve rather than simply recycling past glories. The tour concluded with a personal highlight when my nine-year-old daughter unexpectedly met White at our hotel. Her genuine smile when he noticed her White Stripes shirt reminds us that these human connections—artists inspiring the next generation—often matter most. If Jack White is coming anywhere near your city, don't hesitate. There's nothing else like it on tour right now.www.TheTouringFanLive.commedia@TheTouringFanLive.Comwww.facebook.com/TheTouringFanLiveInstagram-@TheTouringFanLiveCopyright The Touring Fan Live 2024

Before we get into the meat and bones of this episode, an announcement. This podcast will be ending in 2030 and by our calculations, if we carry on the same rate of listens for the next five years, we'll reach 800,000 in total. So dear listener, here is where you come in. Share this podcast with 5 of your friends today and help us reach the 1 million listen mark before we bring this podcast to a close. Simples! Now on with the show, and in today's episode Stuart and William discuss two of those listener questions, beginning with this corker from Jess in Bishop's Tatchbrook, Warwickshire, England - “Random question for you today. Whats the most memorable live musical performance you've seen?”For Stuart, the most memorable performance was Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock in 1969. He goes on to elaborate about the timing of the performance and what he gained from the experience, particularly highlighting Hendrix's improvisational skills. When William interpreted this question, he saw it as being about performances actually witnessed in person, and since he has seen many memorable performances, he finds it difficult to select just one. However after a little internal deliberation he settles on two particular performances. One recent, and one from around 20 years ago. The first was a performance of Beethoven's 5th piano concerto at Oxford's Sheldonian Theatre, where he was amazed by a virtuoso pianist playing entirely from memory. His second pick was seeing The White Stripes at the Shepherd's Bush Empire, where he was impressed by Jack White's stage presence and the duo's chemistry. He also concludes with an action: to see The Flaming Lips live, you won't regret it!After all that musical waffle, Stuart and William then go onto talk through the following question from Brenda in Northumberland, England - “I notice you don't have too many promotional platforms, or try to do too many things. Is this because of time constraints or do you feel doing too many things and having too many offerings for your audience could be a distraction and divide your audience?”Stuart initiates the discussion by explaining that time constraints limit their promotional efforts. He notes that expanding to new platforms can divide audience attention and potentially serve as an excuse for failure.William goes on to describe their recording process, which ensures the podcast is consistently released on time. He emphasises that word of mouth remains their most effective form of promotion.Stuart expands the conversation by expressing his frustration with creatives who constantly launch new channels or ideas rather than committing to one project and seeing it through.Stuart points out for this podcast their listener numbers remain stable even without active promotion, which he sees as a testament to the podcast's success. He prefers maintaining a consistent audience rather than pursuing a boom-and-bust approach that chases listener numbers.William concludes by questioning whether creatives truly understand the implications of having a large audience, suggesting many pursue big numbers without considering the consequences. What do you make of this discussion? „Seven Nation Army“ von den White Stripes ist inzwischen viel mehr als nur ein weltweiter Indie-Rock-Hit, es ist eine Hymne, zu der die Menschen in ganz unterschiedlichen Situationen feiern: im Fußball-Stadion, auf dem Kreuzfahrtschiff oder beim privaten Headbangen in der Küche. Entstanden ist „Seven Nation Army“ als Gitarren-Riff bei einem Soundcheck und hätte es fast nicht zum fertigen Song geschafft.

Did you know that Randy went to hitman school? How about the fact that Kev feels that consistency is key when it comes to being an asshole. We also discuss what type of music a psychopath might listen to and what music we've been listening to other than Queen. The Cardinal is complaining about football again and Kev is frankly getting a little tired of his whining! I don't know if this partnership is going to last!If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "This song is brill" or possibly, "Hitman school"Today's episode looks at a Freddie song that was assisted by Brian and John and taken from the Innuendo album; "The Hitman"NOTE: Skip forward to 23:47 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The song at the end of the episode is a very rough mix of Kev, his brother Dan, and his Dad, John, playing a White Stripes song back in 2016. It was recorded remotely and then shoved into Dropbox to mix. Very badly. This one should probably go to the Cardinal at some point to be reworked... but anyway, it's a bit of lo-fi fun and it's titled "Effect and Cause" and you can find it here : https://youtu.be/SRRD-m43xrgIf you want to listen to the song The Delegator's brilliant cover of Nowhere to Run you can find it here: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=E3p7yDec38o and if you want to watch the clip Kev was talking about of Mike Portnoy playing Shake It Off, you'll find that here: https://youtu.be/cHl_gsd0OR0Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the last episode and left us some comments on Facebook, Bluesky, and Discord! The famed electro house duo open up about their 2024 album and the challenges of touring live. In the mid-'00s, songs like "D.A.N.C.E." and "We Are Your Friends" emerged as stadium-sized anthems during a new wave of electro house that weaved in elements of rock and disco. The architects behind these hits were Parisian duo Justice, AKA Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay. Together with their Ed Banger contemporaries, they rode a craze that took over airwaves and dance floors, alongside peers like label founder Busy P and the late DJ Mehdi. Their first album, Cross, quickly became a classic, helping to establish Ed Banger as the flagbearer for French electro. Justice went on to tour a dynamic live show with spectacular lights and visuals, and later released two more albums before taking an eight-year hiatus and largely disappearing from the spotlight. Last year, Augé and de Rosnay returned with their fourth studio album, Hyperdrama, which features a GRAMMY-winning collaboration with Tame Impala. Referencing indie rock and early '90s hardcore techno, the LP sparked a revived interest in the duo—if you watched last year's Olympics in Paris, 18 minutes of their music featured in the closing ceremony. In this RA Exchange, Augé and de Rosnay talk to Resident Advisor's editor, Gabriel Szatan, about being back on the road and balancing touring with family life, a rhythm that hasn't felt natural to them after so much time off. They open up about dealing with technical issues and making mistakes when performing, despite having played countless iterations of their live shows. The conversation also touches on their earliest influences—like gaming culture and bands including the White Stripes, and how they've cultivated such a dedicated international fanbase. This episode was recorded over the course of multiple backstage conversations. Listen to the episode in full. -Chloe Lula
