In this episode we discuss sleep eating, how big 2am is in music, how you take your banana bread, the menu at the CCFAC, a bombastic new edish of POW/TTC/Pop Culture, Coke Zero as the masc version of DC, those condos from The Hills, the character of Josh aka a boyfriend straight out of Loony Tunes, the parade of hats, the flash in the pan that was Ryan Cabrera, song writing with the drummer from Sugar Ray and SO MUCH MORE!!!
This week we go deep down the rabbit hole, YFTer's. Aliens, buildings beneath the Pyramids and what you're really here for - hidden meanings in Sugar Ray songs. Your hosts debate the pros and cons of pegging and the likelihood that a major pop song from the late 90s was secretly about this. (check Reddit for more on this). Speaking of pop songs, what would you do with a million dollars, YFTer's? Hit us up on the VM's with your thoughts…Brand-eye would head to Patagonia, while Wells would hole up in a secluded cabin in the woods and write the next great American novel and try not to think too much about golf or the aliens living under the pyramids. Yep you heard that right. Lastly, the pair discuss the week's fave things (Adolescence one-takes are blowing our minds right now), how great cold plunges are, and why they probably won't ever understand why people used to literally drink pee to check if you were sick back in Medieval times. PEEce out for this week, YFT fam! Favorite Things Mentioned: The Bachelor Run (Book) White Lotus S3 A Body in the Snow The Electric State
The best movie we've ever discussed? We'll let you decide.. that it is. This week we break down the perfectly-cast, perfectly executed Scooby Do! On this episode of Rebel Rockers with Native Wayne, we honor Sublime, the groundbreaking rock reggae trio from Long Beach. Blending punk, reggae, and hip-hop, Bradley Nowell, Eric Wilson, and Bud Gaugh crafted a sound that redefined music, with hits like "Date Rape" sparking their meteoric rise. Sublime's legacy endures through Sublime with Rome and the next generation led by Bradley's son, Jacob. Their DIY ethos and soulful authenticity created a timeless influence on music. Sublime inspired artists like No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, and Michael Franti. Their genre-defying music, led by Bradley's unique voice and powerful songwriting, remains a blueprint for rock reggae bands like Stick Figure and Rebelution. From underground gigs to chart-topping hits, Sublime's story is a testament to their artistry and the Long Beach roots that shaped them. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Is Nü Metal the most divisive music subgenre of the 1990s? It sure seems to generate a lot of hate, but is also beloved by millions of fans. Eschewing the traditions of classic NWOBHM bands (guitar solos, leather, fist-pumping athems), Nü Metal rose from the same underground that embraced both hip-hop and mosh pits, with its own style (baggy pants, tracksuits, baseball caps) more reminiscent of Run D.M.C. than Judas Priest. In the same way that punk was a response to the bloated stylings of 70s corporate and progressive rock, Nü Metal stripped away the overindulgence of previous metal incarnations and focused on rhythm and catharsis. Bands like Korn, Papa Roach, and Linkin Park wrote about the dark underbelly of suburban home life, with varying musical approaches, while others like Slipknot, Mudvayne, and Static-X added a layer of theatrical presentation in their looks. We revisit not just the Nü Metal period, but also what came before it, bands like Anthrax and Public Enemy teaming up, the alternative approaches of Primus, Faith No More, and Rage Against The Machine, and explore the looks, the sounds and legacy of Nü Metal. Bands scoring a hit with a single that doesn't sound much like the rest of the album is not unusual. Blur, Sugar Ray, the Butthole Surfers, Nada Surf, and more had hits that might have confused buyers when the bought the respective albums, and the same goes for Faithless, and their 1998 album Sunday 8 PM. Thanks to the uptempo house hit "God Is A DJ," the band gained fans on both sides of the Atlantic. However, aside from one other track, the rest of the album runs at half that speed, mixing electronic downtempo and soul sampled trip-hop. It results in an uneven album that feels more like a collection of really good singles instead of a cohesive musical statement, but the highs, including a stirring vocal performance by Boy George, make the record one worth checking out. Adam opens the show with Mike Dawson sitting in for the news. They discuss how modern technology has somehow not put an end to “lore.” Then they cover stories that include a favorable ruling for Alec Baldwin in his fatal shooting lawsuit, Rob Reiner tweeting for Joe Biden to step down and new garbage cans for New York City. Next, Adam is joined by members of the band Smash Mouth, Paul De Lisle & Zach Goode. They talk about KROQ being pivotal in helping the band break, the death of their former lead-singer, Steve Harwell, and their current tour & new singles. Then, Dave Rubin returns to the show and they recap a star-studded dinner they attended last night, which included Adam splitting a potato with billionaire David Sacks. They also discuss Gavin Newsom's ruining of California, Joe Biden's obvious decline and the media's tendency to lie about things Trump said, despite video evidence to the contrary. They wrap-up by discussing what the country could look like after the 2024 election if Trump wins. "The Morrison Project" The London-born guitarist and singer/songwriter Billy Morrison has two main components to his life and for the purposes of this introduction, I'm going to tell you about the musical one. The other one I'll let him tell you about because he'll tell it far better than I can. So: the musical one. After playing in bands like Into A Circle and Stimulator, Morrison was recruited to play bass with The Cult for their opening slot with Aerosmith in the U.S., Japan and Europe. After his stint with The Cult, Morrison formed Camp Freddy with Dave Navarro, Donovan Leitch, Scott Ford and The Cult's Matt Sorum. You'll find the through-line in Morrison's life has a lot to do with The Cult. In 2006 Morrison teamed up with Fuel's Brett Scallions, Ricky Warwick of The Almighty, Slunt's Charles Ruggiero, Korn's Rob Patterson and, you guessed it, The Cult's Billy Duffy for the band Circus Diablo. In 2010 he joined Billy Idol's band and he's been with him ever since, playing stadium shows across the world. Camp Freddy morphed into Royal Machines adding Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray and Josh Freese to the lineup. Morrison's new album is called The Morrison Project and it's got a murderer's row of guests including Al Jourgensen of Ministry, Steve Stevens, Darryl DMC McDaniels of Run DMC, Ozzy Osbourne and Corey Taylor of Slipknot, among others. The album is a big crunchy blast of hard rock bliss with careening guitar riffs and hooks galore. It's not only one of the most satisfying and energizing albums of the year, it's landed Morrison his first number one. Well-deserved. Morrison has acted in movies, become a notable art collector and artist and he co-hosts a show with Ozzy on Sirius. Busy fellow. Billy is the real deal and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. www.billymorrison.com (http://www.billymorrison.com) www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.alexgreenbooks.com Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

Zoinks! There's a new episode out now! We revisit Mystery Inc. with the 2002 live-action film, Scooby-Doo. We learn about the original script and story and how much it differed from the final product, wonder if Scooby wasn't depicted well or just had bad CGI, love the real sets and production design, and again discuss the queer subtext of the gang. We get into the extreme 2000s of it all, including the push for hetero-normative relationships and capital F Feminism, the generic racism, the extreme gelled hair, and Sugar Ray. We commend the actors/casting and think they did an excellent job with a sub-par script, making the cartoon characters feel real but not too real, and again praise Matthew Lillard in particular. Katy shares a Bob's Burgers theory, Carrie adds a movie to her “Never” list, Maddy thought the music was banging, and Mack is confident he could make a disco skull. We also recover some repressed memories, try not to (and fail) to bring up Buffy, test out some impressions, and discuss the odd attention to wig and hair choices. Listen to hear more about Hot Dog Water, Canada's 2002 music charts, Greek mythology, Barbie, and Bones. Jinkies!
