Today's Topics: 1) Gospel - Mt 1:1-16, 18-23 or 1:18-23 - All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Blessed Mother, pray for us! Bishop Sheen quote of the day 2) Heroes & Zeroes of August 2022: Know exactly where our "Catholic" leaders stand, both the "heroes," standing up for the truth, and the "zeroes," causing grave scandal with their words and actions https://catholicvote.org/heroes_zeroes/august-2022/ 3) Liberation from the internet: David Deavel recounts his experiences of unexpectedly losing his home internet. It can be on the one hand a frustrating and even panic-inducing situation, because of our slavery to the web. But by the same token, it can be a freeing experience to be tossed into a present, immediate, sensory, simpler, quieter mode of life. So many aspects of our lives require the internet that most of us can't be completely free of this external slavery. Fortunately, there are two types of slavery to the internet, and we can absolutely free ourselves from the second type https://theimaginativeconservative.org/2022/08/double-slavery-internet-liberation-david-deavel.html 4) A loving tribute to our Priests by Amanda Evinger https://theimaginativeconservative.org/2022/08/double-slavery-internet-liberation-david-deavel.html

Today's Topics: 1) Gospel - MT 19:3-12 - Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) and marries another commits adultery. Bishop Sheen quote of the day Saint Jane Frances de Chantel, pray for us! 2) Heroes & Zeroes of July 2022: Know exactly where our "Catholic" leaders stand, both the "heroes," standing up for the truth, and the "zeroes," causing grave scandal with their words and actions https://catholicvote.org/cap/heroes-zeroes/ 3) Parents sue "Big Tech" giant: Meta is facing a mounting number of lawsuits that blame Instagram for eating disorders, depression, and suicide among teens. “The suits— which are full of disturbing stories of teens being barraged by Instagram posts promoting anorexia, self-harm, and suicide — rely heavily on leaks by whistleblower Frances Haugen, who last year exposed internal Meta documents showing that Instagram makes body image issues and other mental health problems worse for many teens,” the New York Post reported https://nypost.com/2022/08/07/meta-faces-lawsuits-over-teen-suicides-and-self-harm/ 4) Kids stay in Church if Dad goes to Church https://catholicexchange.com/kids-stay-in-church-if-dad-goes-to-church/
We wouldn't say you *can't* draft the players from today's show. We're not really even talking about fantasy football draftees who come at bad value. The final weekend in July and an action packed #IntotheNight show on @NoFilterNet . Breaking news out of box as the US House barely passes an unconstitutional and vague "assault rifle ban" Happy Hour Nancy Pelosi slurred her way to a standing ovation. Our show Cyrus Says is now 1000 episodes old!! And to celebrate this incredible feat, we are joined by the people who made this podcast happen from the first episode. We had Mae, Sharanya, and Amit on the first panel sharing stories from the time when Cyrus Says began and how it slowly & steadily evolved into something a little bit better or maybe not. After that, we had the OGs from our previous studio, Abbas, Sravan & Amit, discuss all those crazy in-studio (and sometimes outside) instances. We were also joined by our tech-support team or the lads that made Cyrus happen digitally throughout lockdown. Yes, they are Antariksh, Vinay & Hrishi. And lastly, we had one more panel, which consisted of people who are trying their best to finally bring in some ‘positive' changes to the show. It was Meghnad, Sparsh, Abbas, and Antariksh. We also got many lovely messages from the #BroachaJantaParty Fam! Today there were no topics, just pure nostalgia. In this week's episode, Stewart and Charlotte discuss a recent New Yorker article that's doing the rounds, and take a look at some standout onboard pools, as well as sharing details of what's in this year's Superyachts book. There's news of a new 80m custom yacht from ISA and designer Espen Øino; a highly secretive 103m Feadship superyacht project, known only as Feadship 1011, which has just had its technical launch; and exciting changes to regulations for charter yachts cruising in Fiji. The data story, meanwhile, takes a look at semi-custom boats under 40m, made with either a steel or aluminum hull – plus some great new launches that are leading the trend. A year and a half later, and we are still learning new things about January 6 — and almost all of the revelations strengthen the case that the January 6 committee has been building about Donald Trump's (perhaps criminal) culpability that day. Merrick Garland has a lot to think about after last night. Five moments will be etched in our minds from last night's gripping primetime presentation... Richard brings up the fact that server farms use a lot of water and are using a tremendous amount of natural resources, both the land and the water. Today at 1 p.m. Eastern, the House Jan. 6 committee “plans to make its most complex case yet,” write Nicholas Wu and Kyle Cheney: “that Donald Trump's words and actions influenced extremists and brought them to the steps of the Capitol.” Central to that case is Trump's tweet on Dec. 19, 2020: “Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!” Rep. Stephanie Murphy's (D-Fla.) described that tweet as a “clarion call” to members of the far-right Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. “We'll show you how they began to organize around that date,” she said in an interview. Doing so, Nick and Kyle write, “will require investigators to delve into the sordid world of internet extremism and specifically lay out how Trump's words rippled through its corners.” Subscribe to the POLITICO Playbook newsletter Raghu Manavalan is the Host of POLITICO's Playbook. In 1998, legendary heavy metal act Guns N' Roses would enter the studio to produce a new studio album; their first record of original material since 1991's Use Your Illusion I & II, and their first studio release ever since 1993's cover record The Spaghetti Incident?. This record, which would be dubbed Chinese Democracy, was intended for a 1999 release date.It would not see release until about 9 years later. The stories behind Chinese Democracy's numerous release date foibles are varied and many, ranging from lineup changes, legal issues, frontman Axl Rose's own obsessive sense of perfectionism, and even an incident involving the soda company Dr. Pepper. But amidst all the hype and comparisons to vaporware, it's easy to forget there's still an album to be heard. An album full of confusing fusions with industrial music and nu-metal, confusingly overblown songwriting from Rose himself, and a confusing man named Buckethead. On this episode of Jukebox Zeroes, Lilz and Patrick are joined by David Rosen of the Piecing It Together podcast to dig into Chinese Democracy; a record whose protracted production time is the stuff of legends, and is still to this day the most expensive rock record ever produced....wait, didn't we already do this one?#WeAreNormalNowLocal Music Feature: Mt. In the second half, we cover the big legislative wins and losses, including a bit of the political knife fights that prevent anyone from cashing in too many wins.Like the legislature, we do run out of time to address the year in lawmaking. So, as we promise in the pod, here is a link to an excellent discussion of the Move Ahead Washington transportation package on the Hacks and Wonks podcast featuring our own Ryan Packer. Also, to dive into further details on the legislative session, be sure to check out our article, Heroes and Zeroes of the 2022 Washington State Legislature. Do you have a hero or zero to add to the list? Or maybe you want to comment on how a particular piece of legislation fared? In any case, we want to hear from you. The 1995 motion picture Batman Forever marked the 3rd entry in the first cinematic universe of the titular DC Comics superhero. While previous entries had been directed by Tim Burton, Forever found Burton in a producing role instead, with directorial duties falling to Joel Schumacher. In contrast to the dark and macabre direction Burton took the film series, Schumacher found inspiration in the camp 1960s Batman TV show, to mixed critical reviews, but major commercial success. The film would go down as a blemish on the Batman franchise among fans, who along with its ill-fated sequel Batman & Robin did not appreciate the more light-hearted takes on the caped crusader. Nowadays it's best remembered as a low point for the comic book franchise, but also for its unassuming soundtrack, which just so happened to contain two of the most enduring pop songs of the 1990s: "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" by U2, and "Kiss From A Rose" by Seal. For two songs iconic to the decade to be connected to an otherwise mediocre soundtrack for an objectively bad superhero movie is a novelty in and of itself. That's why we're digging into this OST anomaly on a new episode of Jukebox Zeroes. Joining Lilz and Pat is streamer and author Danesha Artis, as the trio are swallowed up into 90s oblivion, and a never-ending chasm filled with Nick Cave saying "Daddy-O" way too much.#WeAreNormalNowLocal Music Feature: Collapser - "A Ghost & The Sea"
