Creed III is on the way, so it's a great time to revisit the classic of classics that is the original Rocky. Joining Ali to talk about The Italian Stallion is My Dad Wrote A Porno's Jamie Morton, whose dad wrote the immortal Belinda Blinked, um, "books". His dad's nom de plume? Rocky Flintstone. We don't throw this stuff together, you know. So here's an Ali Plumb's Film Club that digs into the super inspirational 1976 sports film in a highly spoilerific fashion, so if you haven't seen it, go treat yourself and come back to us soon, ya hear?
Hello, hello, hello. This IS Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, and I AM Marc Hershon, host for Episode 330. Sorry that this installment is a bit late. I caught a little bit of a cold, which you might still hear in my voice, and didn't want to impinge on your eardrums with my hoarseness. I'm not the ONLY host of Succotash, as you may well know. I share these duties with my awesome counterpart, Tyson Saner, as we switch off episodes so we can bring you the very most bestest clips from soundcasts across the Interverse. Just last week he hosted Epi329, an edition entitled, “Pleasure, Gender & Pens”, where he featured snippets from a trio of soundcasts, including My Pleasure, Gender Reveal, and Pen Pals. It was a delightful roundup for your ears and, if you missed it, you can still catch it across the web at ear joints like Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible.com, iHeart Radio, Soundcloud, PodBay, Podcatcher, YouTube…you get it. And a great place to start listening is right from our homesite, at SuccotashShow.com, where you can dip back into our 11+ years of soundcastery deliciousness. As for this week, and what I have in store for you in this “Early Thanksgiving Feast o' Clips”, we'll be sampling Ghosted!, Overwhelmed & Living with Judith Lucy, My Dad Wrote A Porno, and The Midnight Snack. And the whole shootin' match is brought to you by our longtime, non-paying, freeloading sponsor Henderson's Pants and their new High-Waisted Hip Huggers. Before I wade into the pile of clips for this week, and for those who caught Dana Carvey on this show as my guest for Epi326, where he talked about his new soundcast, The Weird Place, you may be curious how it did in its one week debut. I talked to Dana yesterday and it has ended up in the Top 10 in comedy soundcasts for the past two weeks in a row! So now he's waiting to see if the folks at Team Coco believe in it enough to pony up the scratch to make more episodes. I bet they will. CLIPS My Dad Wrote A PornoOne of the most unique soundcasts when it debuted back in 2015 had to be My Dad Wrote A Porno. Jamie Morton discovered that his father, writing under the nom de plume “Rocky Flintstone”, had written a pornographic novel call Belinda Blinked. Reading it aloud to his friends James Cooper and Alice Levine proved to be too hilarious to keep to themselves so they turned the experience into a soundcast. I actually chatted with the trio back in our Episode 141, which you can check out on our SuccotashShow.com homesite. I wanted to revisit the show because they have recently announced that My Dad Wrote A Porno will be closing down next month. Maybe it's because they're tired of it, or maybe Rocky won't stop writing porn – he's up to his 6th book in the Belinda Blinked saga. This clip is from their “Best of Book 6” episode, where they get into some of Belinda's best bits, so to speak. Ghosted! There is certainly no shortage of soundcasts dealing with the paramormal out there. Many of them lean into comedy because, otherwise, I guess we'd just be scared shitless all the time. Take, for instance, the clip we have from Ghosted! With Roz Hernandez. Specifically from an episode that dropped earlier this month, where Roz' guest was comedian Matt Braunger. In this part of the show, they listened to a couple of EVPs, or “electronic voice phenomena”. If you don't know what those are, Roz explains at the top of the clips. And even with Roz and Matt joking about what they're hearing, you might want to sleep with your light on from now on… Judith Lucy: Overwhelmed & LivingI was turned onto this next Australian-based soundcast from our friend “Jabs”, or Jason McNamara as it says on his birth certificate, host of The DHead Factor, which is currently on the longest hiatus ever, as well as Boganwood. The soundcast is Judith Lucy: Overwhelmed & Living, and Jabs says Judith Lucy has “very dry but hilarious Australian humor”. The show description on Apple Podcasts reads: “After lockdown Judith is still asking the big questions. Between baking and wondering if she had a drinking problem, Judith wondered how happy we'd been in our old lives and why 'back to normal' is not a good idea for us or the planet. She's out to change her life and yours.” In our clip, she decides to make some changes in her home to save money and to benefit the environment. She invites Brett Hedger, the greenhouse programs officer for the City of Port Phillip, over to see just how bad her place is. It's…not good. The Midnight Snack One of the first Succotash listener-slash-supporters-slash-soundcasters out there to start using the term soundcast for their own show was Dave In The Cave. That's the only name I ever called him (although I do know his name is actually Dave Howard…), and he had a show called Taco Tuesdays. That show ended up, eventually, in the soundcast graveyard – which is a segment we should maybe bring back. After a few years off my radar, Dave In The Cave popped back on when he responded to one of our Succotash tweets last week. It turns out he has a soundcast called The Midnight Snack but he's kind of off the reservation in terms of where the show is distributed. I'm only finding it on Soundcloud, which is a fine place to be – you can find us there, too, of course. The show has an amazing cast of wacky characters who seem to appear only in bumpers between some cool original music. We have a sample from his latest episode 98… That's it. There is no more Episode 330 left in the can – it is all gone. Feel free to listen to it again if you want, or you can hang around our feed and listen to Episode 331 next week with Tyson. Actually, Tyson and I are going to each take some vacation time around Thanksgiving, so both Epi 331 AND 332 with be Succotash: Second Helpings. Past episodes from the archives that have been re-heated for your pleasure. Have a nice Thanksgiving holiday if you're in the United States. If you're elsewhere in the world, have a great Thursday! And remember: If you ever have anyone ever ask you if you've heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon

Yes, friend. It is I. Marc Hershon, host and handmaiden of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Welcome to Epi158, which is another edition of Succotash Clips, featuring a great, steaming pile of snippets taken from comedy soundcasts as heard on the internet. Our Associate Producer Tyson Saner snipped us off a trio of clips, I grabbed some, and one enterprising soundcaster got us a clip from their show by uploading it directly to us — if you’d like to try that it's as simple as hitting our direct upload link at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash! We’re featuring snip-snips from My Dad Wrote A Porno, Off Book, Quick Question, The All Seeing Guys, and We’re No Doctors. MORE THAN CLIPS In addition to the clips we have a double shot (triple, actually*) of our Burst O’ Durst segment from friend and political comedian Will Durst. Plus we have a new Boozin’ With Bill segment, where our beloved announcer teaches us how to make a the bitterest drink ever to flow from the Studio P wetbar. And the whole show is brought to you by our friends at Henderson’s Pants. Henderson’s — if you’ve got the legs, they’re got the pants. (Heck, they even have legless pants, so go ahead and drag your torso over to wherever fine and not-so-fine pants are sold.) CLIPS My Dad Wrote A PornoThe first clip out of the barrel is from a soundcast I just reviewed for Splitsider and that’s My Dad Wrote A Porno. I had the cast — Jamie Morton, James Cooper, and Alice Levine — on Succotash Chats Epi141 and now they are just concluding reading Rocky Flintstone’s FOURTH book in his Belinda Blinked series. It’s a consistently funny formula and a truly horrible series of pornographic novels. Off BookOff Book is a soundcast that is helping to stretch the borders of what a show can do. There are a lot of improvised shows out there but this one, hosted by Jessica McKenna and Zach Reino, presents a full-blown improvised musical. This clip, provided by Tyson, is from their debut episode “Shrugging Destiny” and features the hardest working guest in soundcasting, Paul F. Tompkins. (Speaking frankly, I’m not a big fan of being in an improv group that improvises music because it’s usually pretty bad. Paul F, early in this episode, even remarks that he’s not that great at it. But these guys obviously know what they’re doing, so it’s a different ballgame. Check out my review of this episode from last July on Splitsider.) Quick QuestionOur esteemed Associate Producer Tyson Saner harvested a clip from a new show by an old friend. Travis Clark, late of the Tiny Odd Conversations soundcast, has joined forces with Jonathan Sadowski, an actor you may be familiar with if you have watched Young & Hungry on TV. Their new soundcast is called Quick Question and every episode starts with, as you may have guessed, a question. They then do their best to try and answer said query. The All Seeing GuysThis clip comes directly from the source. Greg and Joe, the fellows at The All Seeing Guys soundcast across the pond in England, used our direct upload link (http://hightail.com/u/Succotash) to get us this chunk from one of their recent episodes. In their cover note they say, “We had a clip played by you a couple of years back so thought we'd possibly throw a newer clip your way.” Just a couple of chaps, sitting around and yakking it up? Soundcasting at it’s purest — good enough for me! We're No DoctorsAnother pretty new-to-you soundcast is We’re No Doctors, co-hosted by Steve Agee and Busy Phillips. They’re not just both comedians and actors, but they’re also self-admitted neurotic hypochondriacs who decided they should do a show about health and medicine. In this clip from recent Epi4, they talk with guest Nicole Sullivan, another comedian/actor who recounts her brush with death caused by the dread swine flu. (Did you guys catch Steve Agee in Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 2? He plays Gef, one of the Ravagers. He’s the guys with the huge thick glasses. Not a lot of lines but a whole lot of funny…) That's it for now. We're doing a special episode of Succotash Clips to help raise money for victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston but it will only be available as part of a package of soundcast episodes being put together by Houston area soundcaster Justin Corbett, co-host of the Mindfudge soundcast. So our next "regular" 'sode will likely be a Succotash Chats show. I will be hanging out at the upcoming 6th Annual Los Angeles Podcast Festival in Los Angeles in October, from the 6th to the 8th. And later in October, on the 22nd, I'll be the on-hand announcer for a live Los Angeles Breakfast Club extravaganza. Thanks for passing the Succotash! — Marc Hershon *Listen to midway through the closing credits for a free bonus Burst O' Durst!
It started around a kitchen table, three friends reading out the erotic work of a retired dad – and now it’s a podcasting sensation. Jamie Morton of "" podcast never expected that “Belinda Blinked” (written by his dad, known only as "Rocky Flintstone") - would eventually lead to a live touring show, that is touring Australia (and ). Jamie Morton, host and creator of the podcast smash hit "My Dad Wrote a Porno" was Samantha Baines’ guest in the studio today. Inevitably the conversation turned a bit smutty as we learnt all about the origins of Jamie’s podcast, heard some Rocky Flintstone EXCLUSIVES and got an insight into Morton family dynamics. Samantha and Jamie swapped stories about sibling rivalry and inadvertent attempts to dispatch with their sisters and Sam shared an interesting story about the 'grabbing a cervix' moment in Belinda Blinked. @samanthabaines @uncleegor @mydadwroteaporno

It is I, Marc Hershon, your host and public defender for Epi141 of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. And our Special Guests this time around are Jamie Morton, James Cooper, and Alice Levine, the cast behind the immensely popular soundcast called My Dad Wrote A Porno, available on Acast. I don’t think I’ve had an interview on this show that I haven’t enjoyed doing, but I must say that chatting with these guys was a lot of fun. Jamie, whose dad is the one who actually DID write the pornographic novel in question, Belinda Blinked, along with sharpshooters James and Alice were kind enough to set aside part of a Sunday evening in England recently to accommodate me and the time change between London and San Francisco. For those of you who perhaps haven’t heard My Dad Wrote A Porno, I feature a clip from Epi5 of their show to give you a taste of what the hoopla is all about. It's a simple format, really. Jamie reads passages from the book that his dad – who goes by the name Rocky Flintstone – wrote as Jamie and Alice take turns with their running critique. The show is now well into the second season and, appropriately enough, focuses on Rocky’s sequel to Belinda Blinked. As you’ll hear in our interview, Jamie was running a little late but James, Alice and I decided to start without him. OTHER BUSINESS As if that interview wasn't enough, we've got a double dose of our Burst O' Durst segment featuring our resident political comedian and social commentator Will Durst, plus TWO bonus interviews — a couple of short chats I had at the recent Los Angeles Podcast Festival. The first features Kurt Long and Joey Bragg from The Dudes of Future/Past soundcast, while the second is with George Grimwood, purveyor of the Podnose network from England. Also, this episode is brought to you by Henderson's HalloPants, just in time for Halloween. SOUNDCAST VS PODCAST Our grassroots movement to change the term “podcast” to “soundcast” is being embraced by some, dissed by others. Abner Serd of the Tall Tales & Shaggy Dogs show has changed all of the references on his website to “soundcast”, and the ThunderTaco show is also officially a soundcast. I see there’s also the Salvation Army Soundcast. On the other hand, I heard via Twitter from the Wheelbarrow Full Of Dicks show and also Chris Lanuti from the Broadcast Basement show that they don’t support the change. Chris says he thinks the name sounds “silly”, which I just don’t get, really. Podcast sounds less silly than soundcast? That’s okay, of course. I think it’s fair to say that I’m a little disappointed that a couple of shows we’ve often mentioned and supported can’t throw in with us on the “soundcast crusade”, but that’s their prerogative. We still love you guys. Not to mention we still can refer to your shows as a soundcast here on Succotash. LAST WORDS Please take a few moments to rate and review Succotash on iTunes, if you’d be so very kind. You can also help us out to defray the cost of producing and hosting this mess by clicking on the Donate button at our homesite, http://SuccotashShow.com, or by doing your online shopping by clicking on the Amazon banner at the top of that very same homepage, or purch some merch at our Succotashery, not surprisingly reachable through that same homesite. Until our paths cross again, thanks for passing the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
