Can you believe it? We're here again. You and I, I mean. I am, as our booth announcer Bill Heywatt just intoned, your every-other-weekly-host Marc Hershon. And you're, obviously, you. And this IS Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Episode 346, to be exact. And, if this is your first visit, well, then, you know pretty much what you need to know. We're just about a month away from celebrating this soundcast's 12th anniversary. TWELVE years! Can you imagine? When Succotash started, the dodo birds were practically still alive, walking the still-cooling surface of the primordial Earth, stalking their favorite prey: the sabretooth tigers. My esteemed co-host, Tyson Saner, and I were conferring this past weekend about our upcoming show to commemorate the 12 years of Succotash and what we're going to do to celebrate. Some past guests and friends of the show are recording some salutations for us. AND we've discussed plans for what changes the next season, our SIXTH season, might bring. (If, by the way, YOU would like to record a quick message with your thoughts and/or feelings on our 12th anniversary, we would love to get it and play on our big celebration show! You can call it in, to our Succotash Show and Runaway Truck Ramp Hotline, at (818) 921-7212 OR record it and upload the .wav or MP3 file to us at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash!) Speaking of Tyson Saner, last week in this very same feed he hosted Episode 345 and brought along his special guest, comedian Josh Barnes. It was an interesting and funny chat with one of the members of the fairly exclusive circle of Extreme Northern California comics, based in Humboldt County. Check it out on Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Soundcloud, YouTube, Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart Radio, PodBay, Podchaser, and, as always, on our homesite at SuccotashShow.com. For this week's episode, entitled “Clips Like a Lion”, we get back to our more traditional clips-from-comedy-soundcasts formula, with a little extra treat. I've got snippets from the shows Dear Chelsea, The JTrain Podcast, and Two Vegan Idiots. Plus a contribution from comedian Dan St. Paul's Slices blog, called “Rebel Without A Phone”. And we are sponsored by our long-time, non-paying client Henderson's Pants and their just-in-time-for-tax-season Accountant's Pants. That's pretty much the whole preamble I had in mind for this week's show. Let's get to the clips… CLIPS Dear ChelseaWe first check in with comedian, author, and long-running TV show host Chelsea Handler and her soundcast Dear Chelsea. This is a weekly advice show where Chelsea and what are usually her celebrity guests answer questions from listeners to the soundcast. Usually in a funny way but sometimes she can dig into the topic at hand and real. I clipped a recent episode where she had two guests on, and whose main claim to fame is that they are Chelsea's sisters, Shoshanna and Simone. In this clip they talk about how sister Simone went from working in the healthcare industry to becoming a free-range ear piercer. Two Vegan IdiotsThe title of the next show we clipped tells you pretty much all you need to know. Two Vegan Idiots is a soundcast features a pair of British comedians, Carl Donnelly and Julian Deane, usually interviewing a comedian guest each episode. Or, as the show description reads, “Carl tries to interview them while Julian tries to get them cancelled.” The vegan angle is true – they're both meatless eaters, and tend to get a lot of ink from the vegan press – but it's not the focus for their shows, since a lot of their guests seem to be omnivores. Their Epi186 featured returning guest Eleanor Conway, and this snippet has them into the topics of orgasms and also doing interviews on the street, which Eleanor famously does on British television. The JTrain PodcastJared Freid is a New York-based comedian whose acts focuses a lot on dating and relationships. His soundcast, The JTrain Podcast, shares a similar focus, where he and his comedian guests answer listener emails and get into conversation about the dating life and other things, too. Our clip hails from last month and an episode entitled “Would You Expose A Cheater?” with guest Ashley Hamilton, co-host of the Celebrity Memoirs soundcast, which is what they're kicking around in this clip. Slices: Rebel Without A PhoneThat's it for our clips this episode but we've got a treat in store. Regular listeners to this show may remember that I featured several comedy blog-pieces-turned-audio-musings from comedian and friend of the show Dan St. Paul. These were contributions to his regular blog Slices, and I'd played around by adding a music bed and some sound effects. Dan picked up the ball and is now doing that himself with the aid of Jimmy Goings. So we'll keep featuring them when they become available. This week I have one of his latest essays called Rebel Without A Phone. You can check Dan St. Paul and his essays out at danstpaul.substack.com, as well as at comedy venues around the San Francisco Bay Area where he's been headlining for years. That's going to do it for our regularly scheduled content for this episode. Remember that Tyson Saner will be here next week with Episode 347 for you. He and I are planning the big upcoming 12th anniversary show, and don't be shy about sending in a note or a recorded salutation for the occasion. You can even do it via Twitter or Instagram by using our @SuccotashShow handle! In the meantime, If you're ever lying in the sand on a beach on a tropical island, and some bully kicks sand in your face to get your attention because you've got your earbuds in, and he asks, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to this "Chats" episode of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, now in the last vestiges of its 11th year bringing you now 345 episodes including this one. Yes, this is Episode 345, which means that the last episode that dropped into our stream was episode 344 and THAT episode was also a Chats episode, hosted by show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon, with whom I share hosting duties with on an every-other-weekly basis. In Epi344, Mr. Hershon's guest was Josh Gilliland of The Legal Geeks soundcast, which, on their main webpage over at TheLegalGeeks.com is described as "The Legal Geeks, Jessica Mederson and Joshua Gilliland, are proud to be attorneys and geeks. Please enjoy their podcasts discussing everything from eDiscovery to Sci Fi and a lawyer's point of view on a universe of Geek culture." Mr. Hershon and Mr. Gilliland had a pretty interesting discussion in that episode that I listened to about 75-80 percent of before I had to stop listening due to some Mandalorian spoilers that I really wish I hadn't heard but, oh well, that's going to happen occasionally when people discuss pop culture. This week, as previously stated, is a "Chats" episode that features a fun conversation I had with comedian and musician Josh Barnes. We discuss many things including children's entertainment, fatherhood, musicals, horror movies, and conspiracy videos amongst other things including, but not limited to, Josh's first comedy special Petty Since '83, which you can find in audio form over at http://joshbarnescomedy.bandcamp.com or you can watch it up at http://watch.nextupcomedy.com Also catch his 2nd comedy special which I attended the filming of in late January of 2023 at the Savage Henry Comedy Club (whose large cast of performers and participants I have attempted to feature in various capacities over the recent years, here and there when I could, in clip form when those personalities have soundcasts.) My intention is to interview as many of the local comedians as I can in the coming year, and perhaps get back on stage myself, but that's just between you and me. I really appreciate Mr. Barnes taking the time, as his schedule is pretty full. This week's show is sponsored by our longtime, freeloading, FAKE sponsor Henderson's Pants and their stunning new Bivouac Briefs. Warning: This interview contains spoilers for a few movies, including Lady in the Water, The Village, Signs, and Cabin Fever, as well as Muppets from Space. Our next episode is 346 which will be helmed by Marc Hershon and I have no idea what he has in store for you...aside from the assumption that it will either be a "Clips" episode or a "Chats" episode... but even that can change. By the time you hear this, I will have had my birthday already, and likely I will have already begun my hunt for clips, or perhaps another chat, that I will present to you in about 2 weeks from then...for Episode 347. ...and that's the best prediction I can make for the near future. Will there be new episodes as we make our way to our 12 year mark this coming April? Most likely. Will we have an actual sponsor by then? Who can say? Will I be galloping toward 50? With any luck. At any rate, you can go to www.tysonsaner.com to find easily clickable links to my other content including Anti Social Show, an entirely other soundcast I co-host with Hunter Block, "Tyson Saner: Gamer" a video podcast that I make for my YouTube channel, and some of the music that I've been making over the years. Thank you for listening, be decent to each other, consider leavin a 5-star review of our program if you enjoy any part of what we provide for you at no additional cost to you, and...should someone happen to inquire, perhaps completely randomly, if you have heard anything good or interesting lately, and this program leaps to the forefront of your consciouness, mentioning us in that moment really helps us out. It's what we mean when we gently remind you to please pass the Succotash. — Tyson Saner
Howdy, soundcast aficionados! You must be a fan of soundcasts if you're dropping in for yet another installment of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Because that's all we do around here is pay homage to soundcasts. We play clips from 'em, we talk about ‘em, and sometimes we talk to the people who are ON the soundcasts, like today. But good deary me, I am getting ahead of myself. Myself being one Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly host of Succotash, and this is Episode 344. We're about 5 weeks away from hitting our 12 year anniversary of this show — can you feel the excitement, the electricity, in the air? Of course you can. If you'd like to send me and co-host Tyson Saner a little congratulations or salutations message in the next couple of weeks so we can include in our 12th Anniversary Episode, we encourage that! The easiest way would probably be to kick out something in your socials to the attention of @SuccotashShow. You could also email us at either m-a-r-c@SuccotashShow.com or t-y-s-o-n@SuccotashShow.com. You can call into our Succotash and Runaway Truck Ramp Hotline at (818) 921-7212 and leave us a voice mail message. Or if you're feeling particularly production-y, you can record something and upload it as an MP3 file to http://Hightail.com/u/Succotash. We'll play or read everything that comes in. We haven't set the actual date in April yet, but as long as your submission reaches us by the beginning of April, it's in! Let's get back to the here and now. Or, rather, the last week and now. Tyson hosted Episode 343 and featured a Valentine's Day slate of three soundcast clips, including Life is Short with Justin Long, CineNation, and High Low with Emrata. You can still avail yourself of those delectable tidbits wherever you normally get your soundcasts from or pop over to our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, which is also the home for our nearly 12 years of episode archives. Which brings us up to present day and what I have in store for you, which is a guest. It's likely no surprise if you were able to read the title for his week's installment: Succcotash Epi344 w/Special Guest Josh Gilliland. A soundcaster and actual practicing attorney, Josh hosts The Legal Geeks soundcast, where he and Jessica Mederson, along with a rotating cast of other legal eagles tackle the important fictional cases of our time. Josh was a guest at one of our rare live shows, about 5 years back when we appeared as part of San Francisco Sketchfest. And he's the brother of another friend of the show and past guest, Gabriel Diani. He's also a Skipper in the Sea Scouts which is a kind of like Boy or Girl Scouts on the water, and we'll talk about that as well. This episode is sponsored by our long-running, long FAKE sponsor Henderson's Pants and their bright n' shiny Pedestrian Pants! Thanks to Josh for dropping by, You can hear a lot more of him over at The Legal Geeks soundcast and you can read a lot more by him on his blog, Bow Tie Law. Tyson Saner will be back in this very same soundcast feed next week with Episode 345 and until then, if someone you know is itching to find something new to listen to and a few choice samples might help them find their way, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to Episode 343 of Succotash, The Comedy Soundast Soundcast! Established 2011 with regular weekly updates since 2020. We've been able to do that here at Succotash mostly due to the fact that I share every-other-weekly hosting duties with show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon who brought you clips last week in episode 342, from the soundcasts Extra Nuggets, Hollywood Gold, The Downside, and also a recent episode of Monster Party on which Mr. Hershon was a guest. You can find last week's episode along with our entire archive of episodes over at www.succotashshow.com or, if you are currently listening to us or have downloaded us from any of the streaming/downloading platforms from which you could do so — namely, places like Apple and Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Amazon Music and many more…uh…that would work as well. This week, I've got clips from the soundcasts known as Life is Short with Justin Long, CineNation and High Low with Emrata. I've also decided to include a classic FAKE advertisement from our longtime FAKE sponsor who does not exist except on paper and in the hearts and minds of listeners. This episode will have posted on Valentine's Day, so I've chosen a special one that…well, you can decide how appropriate it is to the season once you hear it. CLIPS Life is Short with Justin Long I clipped this soundcast previously for Epi273 which dropped mid-October back in 2021. From the show's description: "Is it just me or is time flying by? How do we make the most out of our short time here on Earth? That's what we're here to find out. I'm Justin Long and I've been an actor for most of my life, so I'm used to getting inside the heads of the characters I play. But now that I'm getting older (I'm 43 now, yikes), I want to peek inside the heads of real people to learn how they find meaning in life. I'm also very curious what their favorite snack food is, and what emoji they use most often — ya know, the REALLY important stuff. Every episode I'll get personal with all kinds of people, from actors to musicians to deep thinkers who fascinate me. My brother, Christian, is on hand each episode to keep me honest, and occasionally remind me about some of the embarrassing things I've done over the years. Join us, or if you have more important things to do, that's okay too — life is short!" I clipped the episode from January 31st, 2023 with Dave Franco (Somebody I Used to KNow)and an emoji, the type of which I will not reveal as it is indicative of a specific bit of information contained within each interview. Sorry for being so cryptic, I try to be spoiler-free in specific types of circumstances involving symbology. TMI? On the show, the guest and Justin talk about their mutual love of cats, how he got into acting and the benefits of working with his wife, Alison Brie. CineNationAs described in Apple Podcast's version of a soundcast's liner notes: "The CineNation soundcast analyzes the histories and tropes of film genres and why we love them." The episode I've clipped is from February 2nd, 2023 - When Harry Met Sally (1989). For Episode 250, show hosts Brandon Sparks and Thomas Horton are starting their Rom-Com series with one of the best of all time. Listen as they discuss how When Harry Met Sally went from a basic idea to a classic of the genre. High Low with EmRataThe show practically introduces itself, when you read its description online: "Hi, I'm EmRata, aka Emily Ratajkowski. Maybe you know me from my work as an actress or model, or maybe you've read my bestselling book, "My Body". I'm interested in marrying everything high and low brow by talking pop culture and happenings that may seem frivolous in a way that raises big questions. On this podcast, I'll be talking everything from politics, philosophy, and feminism to sex, TikTok and relationships." Our clip hails from just a week ago, on February 6, 2023, and features guest Amber Rose, who - according to show notes - rose to prominence through several high profile relationships with famous rappers, but she has a whole lot more to say than gossip and rehash their history. On the show they discuss how she has reclaimed the labels “slut” and “bitch” through her event "Slut Walk", how she's raising her sons to respect women, classism, feminism and racism, and what she wants to see happen with men (and women!) when it comes to fighting misogyny. And that's where the clips run out, so welcome to the end of this week's episode. Hey, did you hear that a chunk of the sun "came off"? No, really…it did something like that. I only read the news about it today, and the source was a day old, so…we're still here as of one day later. This episode will have posted about three days from now if the usual set of circumstances has occurred and, the following week, Marc will be back with Episode #344 which I believe will be a "Chats" episode with guest Josh Gilliland, if I remember what was said in Epi342 correctly. Y'know…between pandemics and natural disasters happening in this lifetime, at this point in time, I could really use a hug. Also, I just saw Encanto for the first time and that was quite an emotional roller coaster…so, yeah…the hug thing. Maybe you aren't the hugging sort…no worries, you do you. Aside from all of that, the function of this show has alway been to provide the listener with a window into some listening options that they might otherwise never have known they had…So, I hope that I fulfilled that in a way you found interesting in any way, shape, or form, and that, as a result, you might listen again and/or suggest us to others as an option for them to listen to. We would really appreciate that. We do this out of love. So once again, I've been Tyson Saner wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day, asking you consider visiting www.tysonsaner.com, thanking you for listening, imploring you to be decent to each other, and reminding you to please pass the Succotash! — Tyson Saner
Welcome to another installment of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast! This is Episode 342 and, each week, we're edging ever closer to April 2023, which will mark the 12th Anniversary of this show. I'm your every-other-weekly host, Marc Hershon, and I want to thank everyone who has taken time out to Venmo us donations to help keep this show going! Our grand total since first announcing that we'd be accepting funds through Venmo a couple months back is…zero. Zip. Zilch. Apparently you guys aren't really fans of commercial-free content — and no, I don't count our phony Henderson's Pants ads — so we'll stop beating the Venmo drum. Instead, this week starts my concerted effort to find this show some REAL paying sponsors. A lot of the shows that we feature clips from have them, so why shouldn't we? It's high time that me and our co-host, Tyson Saner, start to see some kind of return for cranking this thing out every week. (So, if you're interested in sponsoring Succotash, just email our sales team at ads@succotashshow.com.) The aforementioned Tyson was here last week with Epi341, a show entitled “Cartoons, Shakespeare & Tinseltown”, a show that included a trio of clips from The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast, Willy Shakers, and The Hollywood Experience. You can still grab that handful of Succotash from your favorite soundcast distribution points, including Apple and Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Amazon Music, and so many others, not the least of which is our homesite, SuccotashShow.com. That's also where our archive lives, with over 11 years of clips n' chats. I myself have a “February Foursome of Clips” in store for you in this episode. We'll be hearing from Extra Nuggets, Hollywood Gold, and The Downside, as well as from a show that we've featured before, one of the hosts is not just a friend-of-Succotash but a close personal friend of mine, and that I have appeared on several times including just last week. It's Monster Party and we had a great time talking about…well, you'll hear it when you jack into the 'sode. This week's installment (until we can find some sponsors with some real money to bring to the table), is brought to you by Henderson's Pants timely Parka Pants, just the stuff to keep your chilly getaway sticks from snapping off in the cold. CLIPS Monster PartyLet's get this Succotash party started with what I was just talking about a moment ago – the Monster Party soundcast! The four gents behind this show came up with this idea when they were crashing in a hotel at the San Diego Comic Con a number of years ago. As they partied and got increasingly blotto, their discussion turned into a loud argument about what monster or sci-fi or superhero or action movie, TV show, or comic book was better than the others. Realizing this was a nerd idea sure to get them laid, the fab foursome — Matt Weinhold, Shawn Sheridan, Larry Strothe, and James Gonis — kicked off their show. I've had the pleasure of being a guest a number of times and just last week was the latest. Their topic: Superhero Obscura. Namely, digging up some of the most forgotten and unknown comic book heroes ever to don a cape. Since I was the guest of honor, I sliced out a snippet where I talked about the mysterious and forgotten…Captain Marvel! No, not that one. The other one. No, no, the OTHER one. Never mind. You'll see… Hollywood GoldAt a couple dozen episodes under her belts, the host of the Hollywood Gold soundcast, Daniela Taplin Lundberg — a movie producer in her own right — interviews other producers and filmmakers to help us look under the hood of some of the films we know and love. I grabbed a clip from an episode that dropped last month where she focued on the movie The Big Sick, written by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, which was a fantastic, kind-of-surprise hit six years ago. SIX years ago? Yes. 2017. Crazy. Anyway, she caught up with her old friend and the director of the movie, Michael Showalter, to deep dive into how this movie got made. The clippage is about some of the casting of the film and the process of getting it down in the funny, touching, sweet style that he did. Extra NuggetsEven as the soundcast ocean continues to fill with thousands upon thousands of shows, I'm amazed at how inventive so many soundcast creators have gotten at finding that little niche, that undiscovered nugget – if you will – of a subject or fodder for a new soundcast. Nugget is exactly the right word for this next clip, which comes from a relatively new show. So new, in fact, that they only have about a dozen episodes dropped at this point, going back to October of last year. The hosts are Dan Rubenstein and Adam Amin. Dan's one of the brains behind the Solid Verbal Media soundcast network, and Adam is a sports announcer with Fox Sports. The hook to their show Extra Nuggets is to take categories from old Jeopardy shows and challenge each other to answer them. But it goes beyond trivia. They only tackle a couple of categories an episode because every answer leads into some extra nuggets of information behind the topic. On a recent drop, one topic was “Historic Planes”. See how much of this stuff you know… The DownsideOur final clip for this episode takes a kind of cynical look at the world around us. Or at least around host Gianmarco Soresi. He's a comedian and a “lifelong cynic”, according to the show's description and it seems when he brings in a guest who's not a stranger to cynicism, like the amazing droll Todd Barry, the level of cynicism goes up exponentially. Here the guys are talking about when Todd started out doing standup back in Miami. Tyson Saner will be here in this same feed next week with Episode 343 and some entertainments for you. So grab yourself some of that. And, if by some chance you're flying high over American soil, somehow having found yourself attached to a Chinese spy balloon, and an Air Force fighter jet scrambles by and the pilot yells out of the cockpit at Mach 2 “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won't you please pass him the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to this episode of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, that numbers 341. This is the first episode that I've put together since putting together my Hundredth episode for episode 339. Yes, you heard me correctly, 339. If this is your first time here, I should explain that my hosting duties are shared in a more-or-less every other weekly tradeoff with show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon. Last week for episode 340, Mr. Hershon brought you a "Chats" episode in which was featured special guest, Dr. London Smith of The Jock Doc Podcast. It's a very entertaining episode that you could check out at your earliest convenience by going to our homesite, www.succotashshow.com, where you can find the entire archive of shows going back to March of 2011.…Or, I guess you could just use whatever podcast streaming service you are currently listening to us on and go back a week…that would probably work too. This week in Epi341 I've got clips from the soundcasts known as The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast, Willy Shaker", and The Hollywood Experience. this installment is sponsored by our longtime fake sponsor Henderson's Pants and their Klept-O-Matic Trousers. (If you listened to Epi340 you will have heard a NEW advert from those aformentioned fictional freeloaders…which was quite enjoyable to hear.…So THAT's cool. Anyway, here is the clippage in store this time around… CLIPS The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast Twin animators Tom and Tony Bancroft get together and talk about their Disney Animation past, the present animation business, and the future of animation. Interviews with talented artists, inspirational words, and wild speculation will help you grow as a person - or not. Our clip is from Oct 21st, 2022, and features guest Henry Selick, the director of "A Nightmare Before Christmas" talking with the Bancrofts in HALLOWEEN MONTH! Willy ShakersFrom the show's description: "A soundcast where I talk about how much I love Willy. I hope if you listen you will love Willy too. No, Please get your mind out of the gutter, I mean William Shakespeare. So put the kettle on, grab yourself a cuppa and get your Willy out with me." I've selected a snippet from the first episode, which dropped at the beginning of this year, on January 5th, 2023. It's entitled "Much Ado About Nothing Act One: Good News Everybody!" We join host Billy Armstrong as he introduces us to the cast. The Hollywood Experience I clipped this soundcast originally for Episode 294, titled "Celebrity Adjacent" which dropped a bit over a year ago on March 1st, 2022. The host is actor, producer, and director Adrian Paul, who has over 200 hours of television and more than 35 film credits to his name. He talks with other actors, comic book creators, martial arts masters, showrunners, stunt professionals, and many others who have helped shape some of the most famous action films and TV shows in pop culture history. Joining him is co-host Ethan Dettenmaier, our old friend from Combat Radio. Our clip is from Episode #52 from January 16th, 2023, and features an interview with Claudia Christian (Babylon 5). And that brings Episode 341 almost completely to a close. I do hope you'll find something enjoyable in what I brought to you. It is my goal to provide at least 3 clips for the show I do every 2 weeks and sometimes it is surprisingly difficult to be in the mood to listen to folks I've never heard speak before. Sometimes, I just want to listen to one of my favorite soundcasts and that does become a bit of a tradeoff as far as time is concerned. Also, sometimes I am not in the mood for comedy. Funny thing, that. I love comedy and comedians, but burnout is real. All in all, I do think that listening to various strangers have conversations over the years has essentially made me a better listener. There's not enough space in my brain at the moment to remember if I have pointed that "better listener" thing out on the show before but…if I have…I can only apologize and say that it's just a true thing. I've had a lot of practice listening. Maybe, one day I will listen to YOU talking on a soundcast…and perhaps I will enjoy what I am hearing so much, I will try to find a clip from your soundcast to feature here on Succotas"…assuming that by the time you have your soundcast recorded, edited and published that "Succotash" is still a thing. I don't see why it wouldn't be…it's just that time is a very real thing, and it appears to be nothing if not finite. On that note, tune in next week for Epi342 where I imagine Marc Hershon will have something really neat for you to listen to. Thank you for listening, Be decent to each other, go to www.tysonsaner.com to find links to the rest of the stuff I have put out into the universe, and until I talk at you again please remember that there might be people in your life that would appreciate a suggestion of what to listen to on their own personal journey of soundcast listenership, and if you do think of us as a possible suggestion for them, we will always appreciate it if you could please pass the Succotash… — Tyson Saner

Howdy do, my beautiful Succotashians! Even if this is your very first time applying our audiciously fragrant soundcast to your earholes, we still regard you as one of us. That's how inclusive and “woke” Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast is. (In fact, we consider ourselves to be “wuck”, the past tense of “woke”, because we're so far beyond it…) What am I even saying? There might be an exhaust leak going on right now in my Mobile Studio MX-30, except that this my Mazda EV so that's not possible. Oh, well. Where are my manners? I'm Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly host for this show and you're listening to Episode 340. And – with no clips featured this time around — this will be our first Succotash Chat of the year! If you missed last week's installment, then I'll wait while you go back and grab Epi339 with our delightful and alternating co-host Tyson Saner. T-Bone (a nickname I've never called him before) celebrated hosting his 100th Succotash show by cranking out a quartet of tasty clipbits from the shows The Movies That Made Me, Of Mice and Men and Monsters, The Three Questions with Andy Richter, and Sensibly Cynical. You can find it all across the soundcastiverse – from Apple and Google Podcasts and Spotify, to Soundcloud, Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart Radio, and many, many other distribution points. If all else fails – or maybe try here first – hop over to our homesite at SuccotashShow.com. As for this episode – and isn't that why we're all gathered here today? — my special guest is Dr. London Smith. He's the host of The Jock Doc Podcast, a soundcast we've not only featured here before but which I was fortunate and delighted to have been invited to appear on several times. The show shares a little bit of similarity to Comedy Bang Bang, in that London and his producer, Cameron, have guests on who always are portraying interesting and mostly insane characters. My chat with London goes into some interesting territory, and we spend a lot of time discussing the move he's making in his career choice – away from medicine (he's actually got bona fide doctor training and practice in his arsenal) and towards acting and comedy. He goes into when he was a “child star”, a title that I think has merit as he was the lead in a movie when he was 12 years old. It's a lengthy chat, so I get right into it, right after a brand new commercial from our longtime, broke-ass sponsor Henderson's Pants and their new Supply Chain Issue Pants! The main jumping off point for him is at JockDocPodcast.com. The other links for some of the project London mention, like David Diamondhands on Tiktok, William Does Streaming, and Frozen Soul can be found hanging out in the blog entry for this very episode at our homesite, SuccotashShow.com. That's going to do it for Epi340. I have to go to the network president's office and explain why we ran over time this episode – but I think it was worth it, don't you? While I'm taking the heat for that, why don't you jot down a reminder to come back to this same feed next week to catch Tyson Saner and Succotash Episode 241? In the meantime, if you find yourself being chased down the street by a vicious dog and you manage to leap to safety through the open window of a passing car, and the startled driver looks down at you in their lap and asks, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to this episode of Succotash that numbers 339. This is my first fully produced episode for 2023, and I thank you for making this your listening destination for the next more-or-less half-hour of your life. Did you catch Epi338 last week? In it, executive producer and show creator Marc Hershon brought you an episode called "First-of-the-year Foursome" in which he selected for you a quartet of clips from the soundcasts known as SNAFU, The Retrospectors' Today in History, The Worst Idea of All Time, and Unpopular Opinion. Also in that episode a brand new advertisement from "our longtime, non-paying, and completely fake sponsor Henderson's Pants featuring the new Bottoms Up Cargo Pants, with a design inspired by our very own Bill Heywatt". So that's fun. On a serious note…It was pointed out in that episode that THIS episode of Succotash will be the 100th that I have assembled. Some very nice and thoughtful things were said in that episode regarding my contributions to Succotash over the years and I couldn't be more grateful to be a part of this operation going on 9 years this April. It's nice to be appreciated. This week on Succotash, I have 4 clips for you, from the soundcasts The Movies That Made Me, Of Mice and Men and Monsters, The Three Questions with Andy Richter, and…what's basically a bonus clip from Sensibly Cynical to lead off the proceedings…if that's the correct way to put things. And the whole shootin' match is brought to you by Henderson's Pants working man and woman's favorite: CoverAlls! CLIPS Sensibly Cynical Recently over at the soundcast known as Sensibly Cynical, host Sean Pratten put together a clip show comprised of moments he determined to be the "Best of 2022". I have been fortunate enough to be asked to guest on his program 5 times in recent years, and Sean graciously decided to include a snippet of one of our conversations that took place in 2022. Eventually, we put together a list that was a "Mount Rushmore" of rock music. This clip is from earlier in the conversation. The Movies That Made Me Filmmakers and entertainers discuss the movies that inspired them. Hosted by Oscar nominated screenwriter and Trailers From Hell guru Josh Olson and fearless leader himself, director Joe Dante. The Movies That Made Me is recorded live in Hollywood and engineered by film composer Don Barrett. Our clip is from the premiere episode which dropped back in July of 2018 with guest, director Miguel Arteta (Beatriz At Dinner, The Good Girl, Duck Butter), who joins to discuss his love for the movies of Russ Meyer. Of Mice And Men And MonstersFrom the show's description, this is a real play podcast where Dungeons & Dragons collides with the classic stories you either love or completely avoided while in school. Join players Aaron, Adam, Kimmie, and Dungeon Master Katelyn, who is also a high school English teacher by day, as D&D elements are dropped into famous pieces of literature. The clip comes from July 27th, 2022 - Chapter 49: "Macbeth - Part 1" - As our heroes arrive at Lady Macbeth's villa, the hunt for the 2nd mysterious page has officially begun! The Three Questions with Andy RichterAs the show's description enlightens us regarding this soundcast: host Andy Richter asks the same three questions to each guest: Where do you come from? Where are you going? What have you learned? These three simple questions, when answered honestly and thoughtfully, are enough to provide a pretty complete picture of who a person is. The answers are what Andy always wants to know about people. This will not be a one-sided process, as Andy won't shy away from getting personal himself. I'm clipping from right toward the end of this past year, the epi that dropped the day after Christmas. Andy's guests are The Sklar Brothers. Randy and Jason join Andy Richter to discuss the marriage of sports and comedy, finding their scene(s), going to the same college as your twin, and much more. Congratulations to us! We made it to the end of the beginning of Succotash 2023. Episode #339 comes more-or-less neatly to a close, and here we all are tearfully waving at it from the docks as it heads for the Undying Lands of the internet where nothing really goes away unless magnets… Hopefully?…We will have hard drives in our heads that will be magnetically shielded against accidental EMPs or perhaps M.R.I. machines…I'm not 100% sure how all that works, but I am grasping at straws. Maybe things are supposed to go away regardless of modern methods of record-keeping. The more I think about it, I realize that all methods of record-keeping were "modern" at one point. Thankfully, we have the podcast — or the soundcast as we refer to them here on Succotash — as a way of keeping records that exist as long as the methods that preserve them are sound, and people take the time to listen to them. So, thank you for taking some of your time to listen to us. We really appreciate it. Perhaps you'd like to share your experience of us with other people? We'd also appreciate that. And tank you to everyone at Succotash for making me feel welcome over the years…Thank you, the audience, for being with us whenever you are or were. Be decent to each other, and if someone asks you if you have heard anything good or interesting lately, and we happen to qualify as your answer…won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner
Welcome to our first “real” Succotash episode of 2023! I'm Marc Hershon, your host for this week's Episode 338, “First-of-the-Year Foursome”. Here's wishing you and yours a fantastic New Year. As your Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, we'll be bringing you a whole bunch of clips throughout this coming year. Mostly from comedy soundcasts – our name for “podcasts” – but we also vary from that from time to time. All to give you a taste of the hundreds of thousands of shows that are out there in Soundcastland. We sample ‘em for you with hopes you'll be curious enough to go check ‘em out yourself. When I say “we”, in case you're new to this program, it's all about me and my awesome co-host Tyson Saner. (Although we're co-hosts, we prefer to divide and conquer, meaning that we each host alternating weeks.) And the reason I call this the first “real” episode of the year? The past two installments of this soundcast were Succotash “Second Helpings, with the most recent one, Epi337, with your aforementioned loyal and faithful co-host Tyson, featured a reheating of Episode 173 with special guest Hunter Block. You can still catch wherever you find, get, or trap your soundcasts, including Soundclouds, Spotify, PodBay, iHeart Radio, YouTube, Amazon Music, Audible, Stitcher, Apple and Google Podcasts. Feel free to start your hunt right at our homesite, SucccotashShow.com, where the entire archive of almost 12 years of shows has been loving curated for you. So what do I have in store for you, snippet-wise in this installment? I have delectable samples from SNAFU, The Retrospectors' Today in History, The Worst Idea of All Time, and Unpopular Opinion. As if that's not enough, we also have a sparkling, brand new advertisement from our longtime, non-paying, and completely fake sponsor Henderson's Pants, featuring the new Bottoms Up Cargo Pants, with a design inspired by our very own Bill Heywatt. CLIPS SNAFUOur first offering is a clip from a show hosted by comedian, actor, and now soundcaster Ed Helms, who you hopefully know from his stints on The Daily Show, The Office, and the Hangover movie franchise. The show's description puts it best, in that the show is about history's greatest screw-ups. The first season of SNAFU, which recently concluded, delved into the story of something called Able Archer 83, a NATO military exercise that almost touched off a nuclear was in November or 1983. Maybe. If you ever saw, heard about, or remembered a feature film from that same year: Wargames, starring Matthew Broderick as a kid who ends up tangling with a military battle simulator computer that, well, almost starts nuclear Armageddon. Or does it? Anyway, it's a great show, uncovering stuff in history most of us probably don't know anything about. As part of his uncovering the story, Ed talked to both Broderick and the director, John Badham. And after the season was mostly over, he recently dropped a bonus episode featuring his chats with the two Wargamers. We have a sample of his convo with Matthew… The Retrospectors: This Day in HistoryThis is a daily show, as evidenced by the title, but each episode only runs about 10 minutes. So it's either a great kickoff to your other soundcasts or a nice palate cleanser between shows. Hosted by Olly Mann, Rebecca Messina, and Arion McNicoll, each episode is packed full of fascinating tidbits about something in particular that occurred that particular day in the past, as well as many of the trappings that surrounded it. Our clip comes from an episode that dropped last Friday called “Rink-O-Mania!” and rips the cover off the invention and introduction of the first roller skates… The Worst Idea of All TimeI'm reasonably certain that you had to have heard of the next soundcast we're featuring. Hailing from New Zealand, TWIOAT quickly got notoriety when it popped onto the scene in 2014. That's because the two hosts, Guy Montgomery and Tim Batt, centered the whole freshman year of the show by watching and reviewing the Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups 2. Once a week. Every week. For an entire year. Then they went on to do the same thing with Sex and The City 2, Sex and The City, We Are Your Friends, and the Emmanuelle franchise of softcore porn films. Their latest challenge? The Fast and Furious franchise. The franchise. In reverse order. While they still mostly go it alone – who else would want this crazy duty – they occasionally bring in people that are fascinated by their ordeal. Just last week, they dredged through the details of F9, as the 9th installment is lovingly known, with none other than comedian, actor, and soundcast host, performer, producer, and all-time most frequent guest Paul F. Tompkins. In our clip, Paul starts to explain the plot of the film as if he had to pitch it to a crowd of people fleeing a burning theater. Unpopular OpinionComedian and writer Adam Tod Brown and co-host Jeff bring you Unpopular Opinion every week. It's often relevant news and pop culture-related topics, of which the guys often have contrary perspectives. Back a few weeks ago, in December, they dropped an episode entitled “The Ballad of P22”, which was the designation of an storied and infamous mountain lion roaming the Los Angeles environs. They talk about P22's history and recent demise, some news stories about the Los Angeles city council, Dungeons and Dragons as therapy and the saga of Burnt Toast, which was the name of a cat that, well, just may have killed an alligator. Listen up… That's it for the clips this week but now is the time to get yourself ready for our next week's show, Episode 339, because it is Tyson Saner's ONE HUNDREDTH SHOW! I'm not sure what he's got in store but man, am I glad we have him. Speaking honestly, if Tyson hadn't accepted the challenge to jump in hear – first as a host to relieve me for a couple and then to alternate weeks with me since the start of the COVID pandemic, you would not have a Succotash Show to listen to today. So be sure to grab next week's show from this feed and don't be shy about sending in some congratulations, either on our @SuccotashShow Twitter and Instagram accounts but directly to him here at tyson@SuccotashShow.com! See you week after next. And, in the meantime, if you get pulled over by a police officer and you don't think you've done anything wrong, just wait until he strolls up to the car, roll down the window and expect him to ask, “Have you heard anything good lately?” At that point, won't you please pass him the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Felicxan Novjaron, estas mi Tyson Saner, and I am not here for this episode. This is a trip back into the archives of Succotash — a "Second Helping", if you will — to ring in the new year with classic material! Happy New Year to you! Although I am not here right now I am recording this portion of the program so as to inform you what is going on. There are multiple origins and convergences of events and personalities to be listened to and we will be getting to them shortly. If you missed last week's installment of this very soundcast, Marc Hershon also served up a Succotash Second Helping from way back in @015. It was Episode 119, and featured his interview with comedian & actor Brian Haley. You can still retrieve it from any of the popular soundcast distribution points on the web, inclduing Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart Radio, Soundcloud, You Tube, Podbay, Podchaser and, if all else fails, you can always, always, always track it down at our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, where we have an archive going back to the start of this show almost 12 years ago. This episode contains large portions of Succotash Chats Episode 173: "Bein' Social with Hunter Block". Originally published July 20th, 2018. This was the 10th episode of Succotash I put together as host of Succotash. I have excised the opening from around that time so don't have to suffer thru it, but I have left the outro part of my speech intact so that you'll at least partially understand what I am not subjecting you to at the beginning. Thank you for listening, I will probably have something newish for you in two weeks... and you can also tune in in about a week to Epi338 which will probably be brought to you by Mr. Hershon. Go to www.tysonsaner.com for bunches of content and follow me on TikTok under "tysonsaner" for little bits of content...and perhaps I could be persuaded to dance... Be decent to each other, enjoy this conversation from the past... "Thank you Bill Heywatt" We now return you to my conversation with Hunter Block already in progress. — Tyson Saner
Happy holiday limbo week, listener, as we say au revoir to 2022 and hello to 2023! Welcome to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, Episode 336. I'm Marc Hershon, your host this week for a Succotash Second Helping because I – like many of you – am on vacation from work this week and didn't want to miss too much of it by cobbling together…I'm sorry…curating a collection of fresh soundcast clips for you this time out. If you missed last week's show, my partner in crime Tyson Saner (our "crime" being the promotion of soundcasts by playing clips from those shows) brought out a trio of snippets for Epi335 entitled “Clips For Christmas!” The shows featured included Hollywood Palms Podcast, The Besties, and The Viral Podcast. You can still grab it wherever you find your quality soundcasts – places like Apple & Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Amazon Music, Spotify, Audible, iHeart Radio, Facebook, PodBay, Podchaser and, of course, at our Succotashshow.com homesite, which houses that episode and 334 more going back almost 12 years. As I said, I'm off this week so I've opened the vault that holds the Succotash archives and digging way back 7 years or so – to our Epi119 that dropped on November 5, 2015. It features my interview with comedian and actor Brian Haley, in an episode entitled “Takin' Haley's Comments”. This episode also features a double dose of our old Burst O' Durst feature with comedian Will Durst. Update on Will's condition: As many of you know, he suffered a stroke while waiting backstage for a show a little over 3 years ago and is still on the road to recovery. He's been doing a little bit of performing in the past year – nothing too strenuous or long-winded, and he is still in a recovery facility undergoing daily physical therapy to get back walking again, as well as to regain full use of his left arm. The Go Fund Me account that was established back when this all began is still up and running, because the medical bills keep piling up. If you want to help out, just click over to https://www.gofundme.com/f/awukk-will-durst-needs-your-help (or use the direct link above…) That's really what the show is this week, but it's a jumbo-sized episode running over an hour, so I hope you enjoy it! Tyson plans to take a holiday week off next week, too, so watch this same feed for another Succotash Second Helping and, then after that, we'll both be back with the live, up-to-the-minute soundcast clip madness again! Until then, have a Happy New Year! — Marc Hershon
Saluton, Feliĉan Kristnaskon, Feliĉa Ĥanuko, and if you are listening to this between or after December 26th 2022 to January 1st 2023, Feliĉa Kwanzaa! Welcome to Episode #335 of Succotash that is the last episode before Christmas of 2022. I am Tyson Saner, and I will be your host for the duration. If you listened to last week's Epi334, then you know that it was hosted by show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon, with whom I share hosting duties with for alternating episodes. In that episode you were no doubt delighted to enjoy the content that he brought you in the form of a show titled Season's Clippings!, which featured five, count 'em, FIVE clips from other peoples' soundcasts, namely the shows known as Hey, Riddle, Riddle; Jordan Klepper Fingers the Conspiracy; Man Thinkers; The Salty Language Podcast AND Fandom!. Also, there was no spot from our longtime FAKE sponsor "Henderson's Pants" to be heard in that episode. There was, instead, a brand-new spot from Bill Heywatt offering his Master Class…on running master classes. It's a well-stuffed stocking of an episode, and I urge you to check it out whenever you can. It is still available to listen to thru the listening platforms Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Audible, iHeart Radio, YouTube, Amazon Music, PodBay, Podchaser, and at our homesite SuccotashShow.com, where we have that episodes and all of the other ones dating back almost 12 years in the Succotash archives. But that was last week, and this is this week, and for this week I've got 3 clips for you from the soundcasts known as Hollywood Palms Podcast, The Besties, and The Viral Podcast. I've also decided to include a classic Holiday Season Henderson's Pants ad because…'tis the season. I can't think of any reason to delay the proceedings any further, so let's get to it. CLIPS Hollywood Palms Podcast Genius Royale presents the Hollywood Palms Podcasts, wherein each week they interview a guest and then give them a palm reading and talk about their past, present and future. Our clip is snipped from recent Episode 4 from November, 2022, and features guest Sara Benincasa, host of the Well, This Isn't Normal soundcast and author of "Real Artists Have Day Jobs", "Agorafabulous!" and more! The Besties As the show's description goes, "It's 'Game of the Year' meets 'King of the Hill' as four of Earth's best friends – Griffin McElroy, Justin McElroy, Chris Plante, and Russ Frushtick – rank and review their favorite video games. Because shouldn't the world's best friends pick the world's best games?" Our selected snippet is from November 17th, 2022, an episode netitled "Boldly Going Where No Hedgehog's Gone Before in Sonic Frontiers", and in this clip is the end of the conversation about the game "Somerville", which leads into a conversation about the game "Pentiment" on Xbox Game Pass. The Viral Podcast I read that hosts Chelcie Lynn and Paige Ginn are comedians — not therapists — but they have a soundcast which is pretty much the same thing. We sample that in this clip from Epi60 from earlier this month, when the hosts talked about terrible roommates, human tables, goals, salt baths, self help, jokes, would-you-rathers, Oh Do Me, and much more! And that brings us more or less neatly to the end portion of Epi335. I do hope you find something in this episode that was enjoyable, and perhaps you will go in search of one or all of the soundcasts you heard to listen to more of their content. If you do, tell 'em Succotash sent you. You'd be doing us a huge favor and we appreciate you for it. We also appreciate your listening to the end of this episode so you can hear me tell you how much you are appreciated. In the spirit of the season and of the idea itself, be sure to remember to tell those that you appreciate that you do, as often as you can. I feel like that might help foster a social environment that will be more beneficial to the overall psyche of society…if that's a thing. I believe it can be. So, until after Christmas, I've been Tyson Saner wishing you the happiest of holiday seasons that could ever be possible. Thank you Marc Hershon, Joe Paulino, Bill Heywatt, Kenny Durgess, and Scott Carvey for more than a decade of the feeling that I belong somewhere. Enjoy Episode 336, see you again in Episode 337…probably…Be decent to each other and, If you wouldn't mind, please…pass the Succotash. — Marc Hershon
First off, season's greetings and thank you to our announcer Bill Heywatt, our engineer, Joe Paulino, our booth assistant Kenny Durgis, and Succotash musical director Scott Carvey, and of course, our co-host Tyson Saner with whom it is my esteemed pleasure to share the every-other-weekly hosting duties on this here soundcast. We couldn't do it without our talented, hard-working crew – all working for peanuts. Literally, peanuts. That's all we can afford since we have no paying sponsors. (You can Venmo us a donation, if you like. For whatever amount you'd like. One dollar. Two. FIVE bucks? More? It's totally up to you, but if you Venmo it to me, Marc Hershon, @Hershco – h-e-r-s-h-c-o – it will be used for offsetting our production and hosting costs. I can also kick Tyson a few bucks. So we won't say no to Venmo!) I mentioned Tyson Saner and if you happened to miss last week's Epi333, he was in rare form. Fresh off some well-earned vacation time over Thanksgiving, he served up a quartet of clips from such shows as Tough Drafts; The Crazy Life; Barnes, Brenner & Fitzgerald, and The Bitter Sound with old pal of the show Davian Dent. You can still grab yourself a big handful of Succotash Episode 333 wherever finer soundcasts are streamed and/or downloaded, including Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Audible, iHeart Radio, YouTube, Amazon Music, PodBay, Podchaser, and at our SuccotashShow.com homesite, where we have that episodes and all of the other ones dating back almost 12 year in the Succotash archives. As for this week, my “Season's Clippings!” episode, I'm featuring a fivesome of fine feathered clips from the soundcasts Hey, Riddle, Riddle; Jordan Klepper Fingers the Conspiracy, Man Thinkers, our old friends over at The Salty Language Podcast AND an old friend with a new show, Fandom! The Podcast! In addition, we're putting aside those freebie spots from Henderson's Pants this week, to bring you word about something truly new, unique, and wonderful. It's our own Bill Heywatt offering his master class…on running master classes. CLIPS Fandom! The PodcastI had pretty much pulled all the clips together for this episode and was getting ready to record when I happened to have a text exchange with a couple of old friends of mine from my sketch comedy days in North Hollywood with a group called Fries On The Side. Kenny Stevenson and Dorien Davies have been special guests on Succotash WAY back in Episode 20(!) Anyway, we were texting about something or another and Kenny mentioned that he and another old chum, Alex Enriquez, had just started a new soundcast. Kenny used to co-host a sports soundcast called Knuckle Sanwich – great title – but that had been down for a while. So he and Alex have started a new show – right up my alley as they cover a lot of super-nerdy pop culture territory – and I just got this clip in under the wire for this episode. Their show is called Fandom! The Podcast, from the Fan Controlled Network, and their most recent episode talks a lot about the new Willow streaming show on Disney+. Jordan Klepper Fingers the ConspiracyOne of the best forces for pseudo-journalism goodness has got to be Jordan Klepper, who's been a fixture on Comedy Central's The Daily Show for years. He's got a six-episode limited-run soundcast under the Comedy Central banner called Jordan Klepper Fingers The Conspiracy, where he digs deep into some of the wildest MAGA theories he's heard and, according to the show's description, “traces their origins with journalists, experts, and anyone who might have a lead on when JFK Jr. is coming back. The soundcast offers an opportunity to better understand some of the most extravagant stories Americans tell themselves.” In Epi5 of the series, Jordan wades deep into the history and mystery that is “Hunter Biden's Laptop.” We have a sample… Hey Riddle RiddleI'll be the first to admit this, but some soundcasts get past me. Maybe I'm not paying attention or maybe it's because there are a couple hundred THOUSAND of them out there now. But I'm really ashamed to ‘fess up to missing Hey Riddle Riddle, mainly because it's hosted by a trio of improv and sketch performers and those are MY people. Adal Rifai, Erin Keif, and John Patrick Coan are Chicago-based and they've been doing Hey Riddle Riddle for at least 4 years now. Out of the Headgum Studios, their homesite only has shows through their 4th anniversary show, which dropped this past August 27th. But there are still fresh installments coming out, available on Apple Podcasts, etc. What is Hey Riddle Riddle, for those of you who are like me and in the dark? Their show's description on Apple Podcasts reads, “Riddles! Puzzles! WhoDunnits! Adal Rifai, Erin Keif and John Patrick Coan, three of Chicago's most overrated improvisers, are on the case to solve every riddle, puzzle, brainteaser, and head-scratcher known to humanity. Some riddles are almost impossible, some are absolutely improbable, and some simply have not aged well. And if you don't like riddles, don't worry! This podcast is barely about them!” I bring you a pull from their 4th season finale episode where they get into guessing movie title mashups. The Salty Language PodcastIf you've been a listener to this soundcast for any appreciable length of time, you know that both Tyson and I do have our favorites out there in Soundcastland. So we occasionally show them a bit more love than some of the other shows we feature. Tyson just played a bit last episode from our chum Davian Dent from England. I often talk with Jabs AKA Jason McNamara in Australia. And other folks like Hunter Block from Anti Social Show, Ethan Dettenmeier of Combat Radio, Ed Wallick from the hiatus'ed Don't Quit Your Daycast, and Travis Clark from, originally, Tiny Odd Conversations. A few shows retweet OUR tweets religiously – like The Jock Doc Podcast and I Shake My Head with Lisa and Sam. So I want to do them a solid and recognize their place in our Soundcast Society, too, which is why we're featuring a clip from a recent installment of The Salty Language Podcast. Hosted by Tony and Bryan, this show has been around probably as long as Succotash. Sluggin' out the episodes one after the other. The show's simple description on their homesite reads, “A soundcast about pop culture, living life, and anything else in our tiny brains.” This clip is about one of the guys having made it to his first in-person medical checkup since COVID started. Man ThinkersIt's hard to tell if the attitude of the hardcore male chauvinist is on the run or just biding its time. I'd like to think that kind of backwards attitude that men have towards women is being eclipsed by something more forward-thinking. Whatever the case, it's a way of thinking that soundcasters are having fun ripping on in a variety of ways. One of those is an iHeart Radio production, a show called Man Thinkers, featuring George Collins and Dan Finklestein. Here is how the show is described over on Apple Podcasts: “Man Thinkers is a podcast where the facts...are up for debate. For decades, the lamestream media has prevented real men from sharing their knowledge. On Man Thinkers, there are no degrees and no rules. The hosts aren't impressed by run-of-the-mill ‘experts.' Man Thinkers is a new space populated by iconoclastic thinkers, academic renegades, and media personalities that sound unlike anything else. Cable news is for the old and social media has become too toxic to trust. George and Dan courageously have the tough conversations that mainstream media won't touch. Man Thinkers is a safe space from safe spaces, nothing is off limits.” In a recent episode that dropped back on November 24th of this year, George and Dan had two women on the show: Liz Plank and Monica Padman. Lis is a Canadian journalist, author, and soundcast host. Monica is an actor, podcast producer and co-host – you've heard her on here before when we've clipped Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. The Man Thinkers had them on to talk about women freezing their eggs. Here's how part of the conversation went… That's it for the clips this week. If you've got a comedy soundcast and you'd like us to feature a clip, you don't have to wait for us to wade through those hundreds of thousands of shows to find you – you can make your own 3-5 minute clip and upload it directly to us at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash! That's gonna do it for Epi334 but if you want to hear what's coming up next, just hang arounds this feed until next week when Tyson Saner shows up with Episode 335 and lays it on you. Tyson's next episode is our Christmas present to you, as a matter of fact. And MY next show will be that after-Christmas great buy you get immediately after. Have yourself a fantastic holiday season. And remember, if som jolly fat guy in a red suit with white trim should happen to pop up next to your bed one night soon and whisper into your ear, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, it just might be Santa Claus wanting to find something decent to listen to on his way back to the North Pole, so won't you please pass him some milk, cookies, and Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner, one of two rotating hosts of this soundcast called Succotash that numbers 333. Your other host is Marc Hershon who created this show more than 11 years ago to bring you a variety of clips from soundcasts from all around the internet as well as the occasional interview. Shows 331 and 332 were "Second Helping" episodes that we dug out from the archive to give you, the audience, another chance to listen to them. Episode 331 contained my interview with J. Elvis Weinstein from episode 292. Episode 332 contained one of Marc's chats with Mike Birbiglia from episode 217. You can check out either of those episodes and a metric butt-ton more in the show archive at www.succotashshow.com. The show you are listening to this time around is a new episode with fresh content from the soundcasts known as Tough Drafts, The Crazy Life, and Barnes, Brenner, and Fitzgerald. Also included in this program is a preview clip from a forthcoming episode of The Bitter Sound from podcaster extraordinare and friend of Succotash, Davian Dent. Here's the rundown on the clips this week - enjoy the listen! CLIPS Tough Drafts Simple premise: Screenwriting gurus Steve Clark, Andrew Heder, Kody Schmidt, and Peterson Peters giving tough notes on first drafts of scripts. Our clip is from the episode from November 30th, 2022, entitled "The Casting Assistant", with special guests Jeremy Culhane & Angela Giarratana from Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists! The Crazy Life The Crazy Life soundcast was founded by Gen and Bryan in 2015 to shine a light on the funny side of mental illness. The show features those two and Henno, who pull aside the shame curtain that surrounds mental health. Our featured clip is from the episode from November 19, 2022, entitled "Masking", with Gen and Bryan talk about spending time with yourself, being truthful to yourself by learning new terms for something, then they talk about the topic of masking, and more! (Here's a link to the article by Kimberly Drake referenced on the show: https://psychcentral.com/autism/autism-masking-why) Barnes, Brenner, and Fitzgerald Exclusively on Spotify, iHeart Radio & Anchor.fm, BB&F feature three comics — Joshua Barnes, Lauren Brenner, and Eric Fitzgerald — talking shit about life and various other topics. Our clip was harvested from their second episode that dropped October 20th, 2022, entitled "Space, Where Billionaires Go to Die", in which is discussed (as the episode description indicates) The River in Humboldt, Space, and Billionaires abandoning up for the stars. The Bitter SoundIn place of our usual phony ad from fake sponsor Henderson's Pants, we have a clip from what I'm told is a future episode of The Bitter Sound", created by friend-of-Succotash Davian Dent. Its description says that it is "A stereophonic journey into a world of dark comedy, music and strange audio." And hey, just when it is feeling good to be back another show comes to a close. Isn't that the way of things? I do hope you found something of interest in the offerings placed before your hungry-hungry earholes. I listen to a LOT of podcasts, and every time I say that it is even more true. I'm almost certain that I will not be able to hear everyone's podcast at least once before I die due to time and life constraints but I am ok with that…I still listen to a LOT of podcasts…and I usually refer to them as "soundcasts" within the confines of this show as well as when I explain what the show is to other people. It doesn't come up that often. It's usually related to the "So, what do you do?" part of a getting-to-know-someone conversation, and I don't really have those all that often. I suspect as the world opens up more I will get that opportunity so I guess it is good to practice. Thank you for listening, be decent to each other, tune in next time for Epi334 hosted by Marc Hershon and, if someone asks you if you heard anything good or interesting lately (and we have something to do with your answer), won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner
Hello there, dear listener, and welcome to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Our esteemed announcer, Bill Heywatt, kicks off the show in the usual fashion but I wanted to let you know, personally, that I am on vacation this week and that what we're serving up for your for Episode 331 is actually a Succotash: Second Helping of Episode 217. It's our show from August 25th, 2020, in the depths of the COVID pandemic, with my special guest Mike Birbiglia. Mike's on Broadway right now, scoring big with his new stage show, “The Old Man and The Pool”, but back then he was still putting the show together and you'll get to hear him kicking around what he was thinking of doing. It's a good chat, which I am going to kick back and listen to while I'm polishing off some Thanksgiving leftovers! My over-qualified co-host Tyson Saner took a well-deserved vacay last week, which is why Epi331 was also a Succotash: Second Helping, featuring Tyson's chat with J. Elvis Weinstein. You can still grab that anywhere finer soundcasts are streamed and/or downloaded. Tyson will be back next week for episode 333 – refreshed and re-invigorated – with a whole new helping of winter clips just for you. And I'll be back the week after that, same as it ever was. — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner. I am not here right now... I am on "Vacation" for Turkey Day this month and this particular episode of Succotash you are listening to is actually a "Second Helping" of Succotash. If you hadn't already heard it, now is your chance to hear me stumble my way thru my interview with J. Elvis Weinstein from Epi 292 of Succotash in an episode appropriately titled "Chatting Up J. Elvis Weinstein". If you don't know who J. Elvis Weinstein is... then keep listening to this "Second Helping" episode starting in 3, 2, 1… And a Happy Turkey Day season to you if that is what you are observing at this time of year. I don't know enough about what other folks around the world do in late November to celebrate things and I really don't have time to do that now as I need to pack for the "Vacation" that I spoke of in the explanatory Intro section so I'll just wish everyone peace, love and good food and be sure to tune in for Epi332 which Marc Hershon will be curating for you. Be decent to each other. And, if someone asks if you're heard anything good lately — especially at Thanksgiving dinner — don't forget to pass the Succotash. — Tyson Saner
Hello, hello, hello. This IS Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, and I AM Marc Hershon, host for Episode 330. Sorry that this installment is a bit late. I caught a little bit of a cold, which you might still hear in my voice, and didn't want to impinge on your eardrums with my hoarseness. I'm not the ONLY host of Succotash, as you may well know. I share these duties with my awesome counterpart, Tyson Saner, as we switch off episodes so we can bring you the very most bestest clips from soundcasts across the Interverse. Just last week he hosted Epi329, an edition entitled, “Pleasure, Gender & Pens”, where he featured snippets from a trio of soundcasts, including My Pleasure, Gender Reveal, and Pen Pals. It was a delightful roundup for your ears and, if you missed it, you can still catch it across the web at ear joints like Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible.com, iHeart Radio, Soundcloud, PodBay, Podcatcher, YouTube…you get it. And a great place to start listening is right from our homesite, at SuccotashShow.com, where you can dip back into our 11+ years of soundcastery deliciousness. As for this week, and what I have in store for you in this “Early Thanksgiving Feast o' Clips”, we'll be sampling Ghosted!, Overwhelmed & Living with Judith Lucy, My Dad Wrote A Porno, and The Midnight Snack. And the whole shootin' match is brought to you by our longtime, non-paying, freeloading sponsor Henderson's Pants and their new High-Waisted Hip Huggers. Before I wade into the pile of clips for this week, and for those who caught Dana Carvey on this show as my guest for Epi326, where he talked about his new soundcast, The Weird Place, you may be curious how it did in its one week debut. I talked to Dana yesterday and it has ended up in the Top 10 in comedy soundcasts for the past two weeks in a row! So now he's waiting to see if the folks at Team Coco believe in it enough to pony up the scratch to make more episodes. I bet they will. CLIPS My Dad Wrote A PornoOne of the most unique soundcasts when it debuted back in 2015 had to be My Dad Wrote A Porno. Jamie Morton discovered that his father, writing under the nom de plume “Rocky Flintstone”, had written a pornographic novel call Belinda Blinked. Reading it aloud to his friends James Cooper and Alice Levine proved to be too hilarious to keep to themselves so they turned the experience into a soundcast. I actually chatted with the trio back in our Episode 141, which you can check out on our SuccotashShow.com homesite. I wanted to revisit the show because they have recently announced that My Dad Wrote A Porno will be closing down next month. Maybe it's because they're tired of it, or maybe Rocky won't stop writing porn – he's up to his 6th book in the Belinda Blinked saga. This clip is from their “Best of Book 6” episode, where they get into some of Belinda's best bits, so to speak. Ghosted! There is certainly no shortage of soundcasts dealing with the paramormal out there. Many of them lean into comedy because, otherwise, I guess we'd just be scared shitless all the time. Take, for instance, the clip we have from Ghosted! With Roz Hernandez. Specifically from an episode that dropped earlier this month, where Roz' guest was comedian Matt Braunger. In this part of the show, they listened to a couple of EVPs, or “electronic voice phenomena”. If you don't know what those are, Roz explains at the top of the clips. And even with Roz and Matt joking about what they're hearing, you might want to sleep with your light on from now on… Judith Lucy: Overwhelmed & LivingI was turned onto this next Australian-based soundcast from our friend “Jabs”, or Jason McNamara as it says on his birth certificate, host of The DHead Factor, which is currently on the longest hiatus ever, as well as Boganwood. The soundcast is Judith Lucy: Overwhelmed & Living, and Jabs says Judith Lucy has “very dry but hilarious Australian humor”. The show description on Apple Podcasts reads: “After lockdown Judith is still asking the big questions. Between baking and wondering if she had a drinking problem, Judith wondered how happy we'd been in our old lives and why 'back to normal' is not a good idea for us or the planet. She's out to change her life and yours.” In our clip, she decides to make some changes in her home to save money and to benefit the environment. She invites Brett Hedger, the greenhouse programs officer for the City of Port Phillip, over to see just how bad her place is. It's…not good. The Midnight Snack One of the first Succotash listener-slash-supporters-slash-soundcasters out there to start using the term soundcast for their own show was Dave In The Cave. That's the only name I ever called him (although I do know his name is actually Dave Howard…), and he had a show called Taco Tuesdays. That show ended up, eventually, in the soundcast graveyard – which is a segment we should maybe bring back. After a few years off my radar, Dave In The Cave popped back on when he responded to one of our Succotash tweets last week. It turns out he has a soundcast called The Midnight Snack but he's kind of off the reservation in terms of where the show is distributed. I'm only finding it on Soundcloud, which is a fine place to be – you can find us there, too, of course. The show has an amazing cast of wacky characters who seem to appear only in bumpers between some cool original music. We have a sample from his latest episode 98… That's it. There is no more Episode 330 left in the can – it is all gone. Feel free to listen to it again if you want, or you can hang around our feed and listen to Episode 331 next week with Tyson. Actually, Tyson and I are going to each take some vacation time around Thanksgiving, so both Epi 331 AND 332 with be Succotash: Second Helpings. Past episodes from the archives that have been re-heated for your pleasure. Have a nice Thanksgiving holiday if you're in the United States. If you're elsewhere in the world, have a great Thursday! And remember: If you ever have anyone ever ask you if you've heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner. Welcome to Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, Epi #329. I will be you host for the duration of the program. It's the beginning of November, 2022 and that means that, if this show drops on Tuesday like normal, it's Voting Day! You can be forgiven for listening to this on Wednesday or later… Or you could probably listen to this in line to vote if you haven't already mailed in your ballot or simply deposited it in a dropbox if you've got one handy. Fingers crossed for a Blue Wave, eh? Maybe it's not your thing…thank you for listening anyway. This show is about featuring soundcast clips and doing interviews with folks related to soundcasts, usually of a comedic nature. For instance, last week in Episode #328, show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon brought you a well-packed candy bag of clips from the soundcasts Endless Honeymoon, Hamish & Andy, DorkNation, and Callan's Kicks…PLUS a clip from frequent guest of Succotash Dana Carvey's new scripted comedy soundcast The Weird Place AND a poignant parody song from Succotash producer Joe Paulino called "Young Man", which is a take on Neil Young's "Old Man" and is credited to "Neil Olde". So, there's a LOT going on in that episode, and I urge you to check it out at your earliest convenience. You can still find it wherever you find soundcasts to listen to as well as in the show archive over at www.succotashshow.com. This week, in THIS show, I've got clips for you from the soundcasts known as My Pleasure, Gender Reveal, and Pen Pals. I've also got a Henderson's Pants ad for you that probably would have been more thematically appropriate a couple weeks ago but…oh well. They ARE a fake sponsor after all so… it's not like they are a secret government organization paying close attention to what we do or something daft like that. Anyway, thank you for listening. I now present to you the roster of this episode's clips: CLIPS My PleasureThe show description goes: "Welcome to My Pleasure. Listen every Thursday for the latest hot girl homework, taste of the week and top 5-ish from Esther Povitsky." Our clip was snipped from the episode the dropped from October 20th, just last month, ansdwas entitled, "Esther Anonymous", in which Esther dipped into chat about 12-step program talk, top five favorite movies to re-watch, and a NEW take on Kanye. Gender Reveal Hosted by Tuck Woodstock, the show's description reads: "Welcome to Gender Reveal, a podcast about nonbinary and transgender folks. Join us as we interview notable trans guests, analyze current events, answer advice questions and get a little bit closer to understanding what the heck gender is." OUr clips is from a-ways back. 4 years back, in fact, from January 16th of 2018 - with guest Eden Rohatensky, whom Tuck talks to about such topics as adding a non-binary voice to the #MeToo movement, the difficulties of coming out as non-binary in other languages, how coming out helped Eden recognize their privilege, navigating the tech industry as a non-straight-white-dude, and exploring the question: Is gender a spooky ghost? The Pen Pals PodcastAs the show's description promises: "Every week, your pen pals, Daniel Van Kirk and Rory Scovel, respond to the letters you send them on topics ranging from free will to freeway etiquette, from mental health to manatees. Seek advice. Tell a story. Vent. Send a letter. It's your podcast, we just talk about it." Our featured clip is lovingly harvested from their episode from just a few week's ago, on October 26th, 2022, and features a guest: Chad Daniels. It's entitled "RE: Turning 40 & Chips". Once you've given this 'sode a listen that will be another installment in the past…well most of it anyway; there's still this part left: The part where I say that I hope you find something enjoyable in this presentation of curated content handpicked specially for you, the listener. It's the part where I urge you to check out my other content over at www.tysonsaner.com and also this show's archive at www.succotashshow.com because, after you leave us, I would hope that you would seek to spend more time with us in your future. You could wait until next week when show #330 drops, most likely to be hosted by Mr. Hershon who is, no doubt at this very moment, like actually NOW in MY timeline, on the hunt for the content that he will undoubtedly bring you. So, until next time I talk to you, be decent to each other, consider leaving a 5-star review of our show, and if someone you know is in search of something to listen to, but doesn't know where to start, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner
Hello, listener, and welcome to Succotash, THE Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. I am none other than Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly co-host of this here show, a duty I delightfully split with Tyson Saner. If you were around for last week's installment, Epi327, you would have heard Tyson laying out a triple shot of soundcast clips from the likes of Add to Cart, I, Podius, and 2 Spooky 2 Handle. Much like COVID, it's not too late to catch it. Poke around your favorite soundcast haunts like Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Amazon Music, iHeart Radio, Audible, YouTube, Soundcloud…phew… pretty much anywhere you can stream and/or download soundcasts, that's where Succotash is to be found. I've got a fun-size assortment for you, too. First off, I've clipped a bit of The Weird Place, Dana Carvey's new scripted comedy soundcast that he told us all about two episodes ago in Epi326. That just dropped on Halloween this week so give a listen hear and then go download that sucker. Tell ‘em Succotash sent you. Then I've got more soundcastic fun from the likes of Endless Honeymoon, Hamish & Andy, Dork Nation, and Callan's Kicks. So, if you're keeping track, that FIVE clips this week. PLUS I have a special treat – an original song from our producer Joe Paulino that's kind of a tribute and kind of an answering echo to a Neil Young song from back in the day. And, of course, the whole shootin' match is brought to you by Henderson's Pants, our 100% fake sponsor with their just-in-time for Thanksgiving Turkey Trousers. CLIPS The Weird PlaceAs I mentioned, we had Dana Carvey on the show two episodes ago, mostly to talk about The Weird Place, his new comedy scripted show. I encourage you to go listen to that for a lot of inside scoop on the show. And although I played a little one minute teaser for the show, I wasn't allowed to clip the show until it officially dropped, which JUST happen on Halloween. So here are a few minutes of their very first episode, entitled “Pirates vs. Submarine, Part 1”. Hamish & AndyWe next venture from The Weird Place to Down Under, and a soundcast called Hamish & Andy. The hosts, Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, got started radio, it seems, but have gone full soundcasts as of about 5 years ago. I checked in with friend-of-the-show Jason McNamara, AKA “Jabs”, who live in Canberra, and he says, “They're massive here. Have TV shows and everything.” They seem super popular in a lot of places around the world, so it's high time we gave ‘em a snip on Succotash. In this clip they've discovered they have not only been recently featured in a magazine called Podcast Weekly, and there's the Hamish & Andy quiz, where you can learn if you most like Hamish, Andy, or their producer, Jack. Spoiler alert: There is no Podcast Weekly magazine. Hamish and Andy are just having their way with you. If. You can swing with the Aussie accent, this show's pretty good fun. And there may not be a Podcast Weekly but did you know there IS a Succotash Daily? Yeah, it's this daily page that shows up in your inbox if you subscribe to it. It's completely free and it just a roundup of soundcast and comedy news things. You can type in https://hersh.co/SDaily to get there or follow the link in this week's blog entry at SuccotashShow.com Endless HoneymoonCo-host Tyson clipped the Endless Honeymoon soundcast a little over a year ago, but hosts Moshe Kasher and Natasha Leggero recently had Dak Sheper, of Armchair Expert soundcast fame, on and they got into a lot of interesting conversational territories. At one point, Dak and Moshe started comparing the sizes of their RVs. As men do. DorkNation (High School Sucked)I'm a little confused by our next offering, which is back in the U of A. I first thought the soundcast was called High School Sucked, hosted by Jane Stanton and Darcy Michael. But the most recent three episodes are called DorkNation – one word: Dorknation – and the “About” section on the website says “Jane Stanton hosts new guests each week to dish some dirt on High School. Were they best years of our lives? Does it actually get better? Join us with a new guest each week as we attempt relive the "glory" days.” And then the first episode of “DorkNation has both hosts kicking off what they're calling “High School Sucked.” This episode, the first of three DorkNation shows – maybe more are coming, I'm not sure – feature just ordinary folks waxing on about how miserable high school was. This clip features a guest named Haylyn talking about how her best friend, who started out as her worst enemy, managed to get through it all. Callan's KicksLet's head over to Ireland now for a clip from a soundcast called Callan's Kicks, featuring Oliver Callan, who is a comedian, a voice actor, and an impressionist. He's been doing his soundcast almost as long as we have, having started back 10 years ago in 2012. And his “kicks”, are a reference to the satirical shots he takes on the show at a variety of public figures, mostly through audio sketches where he does the voice of whomever he's sniping at. Our snippet is from the episode that dropped just last week, entitled “Rishi, Bono, and Halloween”. Here's Bono, reading an excerpt from his new book about Ireland. Young Man by Old NeilThat's it for our bonus buttload of comedy soundcast clips BUT, as promised, we have a special treat. Our producer, Joe Paulino, has recorded a clever song, a ditty if you will, called Young Man. It's part song parody, part homage, and part very original. Without further ado, here it is… That bring Episode 328 of succotash to a close. Remember to listen to Tyson Saner when he brings you Epi329 in this same feed n ext week. And remember: If you're even working steerage in an of steam frigate across the Atlantic and it starts taking on water, then the crew and passengers start panicking and heading for the lifeboats, and one of them stops and asks if you've heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner. Welcome to Epi 327 of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. I am your host for the duration of this program and I've got some clips for you…as this is a "clips" episode of Succotash. Last week in Episode 326, Executive Producer and creator of this 11+ years-old soundcast, Marc Hershon, sat down with returning guest Dana Carvey to talk about his upcoming soundcast "The Weird Place" amongst other things. It's a pretty entertaining time as always, and you can still find that episode to listen to over at our homesite www.succotashshow.com or wherever you might usually find the soundcasts you listen to, including where you found us…assuming that you found us at Stitcher, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Deezer, iHeart Radio, and even Spotify apparently. But, that was last episode, and this is this episode, and this episode has clips from various soundcasts from around the internet, specifically Add to Cart, I, Podius, and 2 Spooky 2 Handle. I've also got a classic FAKE advertisement from our faithful, longtime FAKE sponsor Henderson's Pants for you that has proved to be pretty evergreen…somewhat unfortunately in spots. I will let you decide for yourself what those unfortunate spots are. Alright, without further delay, let's get to the clips… Add to Cart with Kulap Vilaysack & SuChin PakI think this is the first soundcast I've clipped from Lemonada Media. "Here's what the show's official description has to say: Join the hosts of Add to Cart, comedian-writer-director Kulap Vilaysack and veteran journalist SuChin Pak, in a subversive take on consumerism. Each week, they have honest, revealing (sometimes TMI) conversations about all the big and little things they're adding to, or removing from, their carts. They decide what's worth the monetary/emotional investment, and what's not. From beauty products and health trends, to celebrities and philosophies they're passionate about, our hosts dig into anything we buy into and what it says about who we are." This clip is from the recently aired episode that dropped on September 27th of this year, entitled "Add to Cart: Baby" And host Ku has some personal news. With a full heart (and cart), she's getting ready to welcome home a new member of the family! And of course, she's sharing what's in her cart for this life-changing occasion. (Please note, Add To Cart contains mature themes and may not be appropriate for all listeners.) I, Podius A twelve episode weekly series, I,, Podius, featureshosts John Hodgman and Elliott Kalan recapping the BBC miniseries I, Claudius, an adaptation of Robert Graves' "I, Claudius" and "Claudius the God". The gimmick? John's watched the show before. Elliott's watching for the first time. The miniseries features an obscenely talented ensemble cast, and is chock full of sex, backstabbing and murder. This ain't your daddy's I, Claudius!. Well, actually it is as the series premiered in 1976. But this ain't your daddy's I, Claudius-based podcast! Parental discretion advised. Our clip is from the very first episode, "A Touch of Murder"/"Family Affairs", which dropped back on February 17th of 2020 - just about a month before all the COVID trouble started. Earwolf Presents: 2 Spooky 2 HandleFrom the show's description: "Are you tingling 4 terror? Slutty 4 slashers? Freaky 4 fright?! Mano Agapion and Betsy Sodaro are bringing you their classic, stupid love of all things horror all month long to Earwolf Presents! There will be possessed dolls, haunted houses, updates from your favorite monsters, and the ultimate villain showdown in our March Madness style SCARY BOWL! Follow @Earwolf on Twitter for more #2Spooky2Handle updates!" This clip hails from just back around the corner a few weeks - October 6th of this month, to be exact. It's called "Ghost Haunting is Like Dating". In the first episode of this special spooky series, hosts Betsy and Mano buy a possessed doll to haunt Earwolf Studios, check in with their favorite monsters (featuring Lauren Lapkus), and decide on the ultimate villain in the SCARY HORNY BOWL. And there it went, the last episode of Succotash. That I will be hosting. Before Halloween 2022. Because the next time I host it will be into November. Recently, I released an October Special Non-Sequential episode of Anti Social Show, which I co-host with Hunter Block, and we made a video-only episode specifically for YouTube. It is an exploration of Halloween Themed A.I. art that I generated in advance of our recording. You can find that episode at www.tysonsaner.com or you can go to YouTube and Google my name and Halloween and the show I am talking about should pop up where you can find it. Next week in Episode 328, Marc will be back to bring you something else to listen to that is most likely to be entertaining in some way to you. In the meantime, if you liked what you heard from us, there is a LOT more hearing to be had…or heard…in our back catalog. It goes back 11 years. You might also consider giving us a decent review in whatever format your particular listening platform makes available for that specific function. And hey…if someone asks you if you have heard anything good or interesting lately, and either of those stipulations makes you think of us…won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner
Hello, listener-friend! It's me, Marc Hershon, executive producer and every-other-weekly co-host of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. You're here for episode 326 and so am I, where we have special guest Dana Carvey returning and we're going to talk about his new soundcast that's just about to drop…but more on that in a moment. In case you missed last week's Epi325 of the show, hosted by my unparalleled every-OTHER-weekly co-host Tyson Saner, it was an fantastical half-hour that included a triple shot sampling of soundcasts — in a show entitled “They Can't All Be Comedy" — from the likes of Word In Your Ear, Going Deep, and Bubble. And see, that first one on the list – Word In Your Ear – that's a music-oriented soundcast. Because, although we tout ourselves as “THE Comedy Soundcast Soundcast”, sometimes we let ourselves stray from the format because that's what we do. If that pisses you off, you can go listen to…oh, that's right. There is no other Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. So enjoy! As I was saying, my special guest this week is none other that Dana Carvey. You know him from his year on NBC's Saturday Night Live, the short-lived-but-amazing The Dana Carvey Show, Garth from Wayne's World, The Master of Disguise, comedy specials, and from here – Succotash – where's he's been a recurring special guest since we first started in 2011. Heck, he was our very first guest back in Episode THREE. In our chat I say that he last visited us a couple of years ago but, in reality, it was just back in February of this year. And now he's back! And for a special reason. Last time he was on he was talking about the soundcast he'd started with fellow SNL alumnus David Spade called Fly On The Wall. Where they interview guests who were either part of the SNL cast or crew, or else were hosts, or musical guests. It's been doing REALLY well and they're not only going to do another season of those shows but there might even be a spin-off companion show to that. But, not satisfied with slicing off that corner of SoundcastLand, Dana is working with his sons, Dex and Tom, and their friend Julian, to create a scripted comedy soundcast. It's called The Weird Place, and it's a Looney Tunes tweak of a kind of Twilight Zone concept and it's going to be dropping very soon. On Halloween day, to be exact. We talk all about it. So here's what I'm going to set the table. First, we'll play a little one-minute teaser that they've done for the show. Then I'll play an ad from our fake sponsor, Henderson's Pants and their Deathly HalloWear. And then we'll go right into my chat with Dana. Sound good? Let's go… If you'd like to follow Dana on his socials, he's @DanaCarvey on Twitter and @TheDanaCarvey on Instagram. Remember to catch our action next week for Episode 327 and your erstwhile host Tyson Saner, right here in this very same feed. In the meantime, if you find yourself struggling to get free of the swamp reeds, the mud and the skeeters while drowning in the fetid waters of Lake Okeechobee in Florida, a giant gator coming at you with jaws agape, and somebody whizzes by on one of those swamp boats with the big fans on the back shouting, “Have you heard anything good lately?!”, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner and you are listening to Succotash. If this is your first time here, welcome. I hope you will find something to enjoy in the soundcast you are about to listen to. If you have listened to Succotash before, welcome back! Thank you for choosing to spend your time with us AGAIN. If the time you listened before was last week's episode, show 324 called “Debate, Argument, Brits & Smut” hosted by show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon, then you know why you are not hearing him in this episode. Incidentally, in that episode you heard the clips from the soundcasts If I Were You, The Legal Geeks, Off Menu, and Pornomedy…and you can still find that episode in the archive at www.succotashshow.com if you would like to hear it again. We've been alternating the hosting duties pretty consistently for the last 2 1/2 years of our 11+ years of this show…so that is why this week's episode, #325, is hosted by me…Tyson Saner.…and in this episode I've got clips from the soundcasts Word In Your Ear, Going Deep from "Earwolf Presents", and Bubble. I've got another classic advertisement from our 100% FAKE SPONSOR "Henderson's Pants" and their legendary Flying Jodphurs for you later in the program. CLIPS Word In Your EarFrom the show description for Word In Your Ear, we learn that Mark Ellen and David Hepworth have been talking about and writing about music together and individually for a collective eighty years in magazines like Smash Hits, Mojo and The Word and on radio and TV programmes like "Rock On", "Whistle Test" and VH-1. Over 13 years ago, when working on the late magazine The Word, they began producing podcasts. Some listeners have been kind enough to say these have been very special to them. When the magazine folded in 2012 they kept the spirit of those podcasts alive in regular Word In Your Ear evenings in which they spoke to musicians and authors in front of an audience. Our clip comes from the episode that dropped just a couple of weeks ago, on September 27, 2022, entitled "Hilary Mantel, Zappa track or ad slogan and the day Beefheart sold Aldous Huxley a vacuum-cleaner". The snippet we have is from a bit of fun near the beginning of the program followed by a bit of seriousness and some thoughts on how commentary and narrative are intertwined…is how I interpret what I am hearing. Going DeepFrom the description: Welcome to the office of America's "most acclaimed couples therapist," Diana Deep (Lily Sullivan). Listen and learn as she counsels couples using her infamous “hands-on” approach to help husbands, wives, lovers, thruples, first-daters, booty calls, and on-again off-again sexters. This improv comedy podcast parodies couples therapy in ways that will make you laugh, cry, and go "Deep" into your own relationships. The clip was harvested from the episode entitled "Culture Shock Catharsis with Nick Wiger & Heather Anne Campbell", in which Dr. Deep speaks with Helga (Heather Anne Campbell) and Guy (Nick Wiger) about their disagreement over Helga's fifth oven purchase. Dr. Deep leads this session down the proverbial "trail of breadcrumbs" to reveal the lies at the core of their marriage. (This episode and other episodes are in the "Earwolf Presents" listings at this time but are originally in the "Stitcher Exclusive" category, but if you want access to what I presume is all of the show's episodes then you will need access to Stitcher Premium.) Bubble The show's description goes a little something like this: Welcome to Fairhaven, a literal Bubble of corporate utopia set amid the wild, goblin-infested Brush. The first scripted comedy series from Maximum Fun, Bubble was created by Jordan Morris (Jordan and Jesse Go), and tells the tale of a small band of monster killers struggling to make ends meet and find love in a nightmarish version of the gig economy. Starring: Alison Becker (Parks and Recreation), Keith Powell (30 Rock), Cristela Alonzo (Cristela), Eliza Skinner (The Late Late Show) and Mike Mitchell (Love), with appearances by Judy Greer, John Hodgman, Martin Starr, Paul F. Tompkins, and many, many more. I clipped this snip from back in the before time - June of 2018 - their very first installment entitled "Huntrs". Morgan, who is good at killing monsters, gets a new gig and a new partner. And that's all I have for you in this episode. I do hope you find something that you enjoy or at least to be interesting enough to experience again. I've already got ideas for what I will clip for the next episode I bring you, but that isn't for a couple weeks in my timeframe so why even bring it up? Maybe it is the holiday season that is rapidly approaching, encroaching…whatever you prefer. I think about time a LOT lately. That is to say, I consider how it can pass without notice sometimes, and every now and then something notable occurs which makes me stop and consider how fast life really seems to be happening. My parents just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with my brother and I and our spouses, and that too was over in an eyeblink. Now I am here writing about it, and in a moment I will be done writing about it…and soon I will read these words into a microphone, edit all the audio together, and create a presentation that you will experience in more-or-less a half an hour of your life. So thank you for spending that time listening to us. I recently added a few new links to my content over at www.tysonsaner.com including my TikTok and my new Redbubble store. I might as well mention that because you are already here and listening so I'd be a fool to not make the best of that opportunity. Thank you for listening, be decent to each other, check this feed next week for show #326 hosted by Marc Hershon, and if you think we are good enough to share with other people then we would be forever grateful to you if you were to pass the Succotash. — Tyson Saner
Damn! Late with an episode AGAIN! Hi, friend. Yes, It's me, Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly-co-host for Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. And double damn if I'm not dropping this Episode 324 a day late and a dollar short. To be honest, me and your co-host Tyson Saner are WAY more than a dollar short. Just a reminder that we're basically producing this show for the love of the Art that is Soundcasting. We still have no real sponsors, just that freeloading Henderson's Pants outfit. Which means we're putting our time with no recompense, and I'm shelling out dough-dee-oh-dough out of my pocket for the production costs. That's 11+ years of taking on the chin for this medium! We used to have a Donate button but I'm not sure what happened to it. We are technically Amazon Associates but I don't know where those links that brought in our pittance went, either. Maybe we should do the Patreon thing? I don't know. You guys just want to Venmo us some money? Hey. THAT could work. Let's give it a try. Open up your Venmo app and send along what you want. A buck? FIVE bucks? A ten-spot? TWENTY Dollars?! Just Venmo it me – my handle is @Hershco. That's the @ sign and H-E-R-S-H-C-O. Shoot along a little message and we'll give you muchos gracias on the show! Has any soundcast even attempted this before? Let's make history!!! Speaking of history, last week in this very same feed you could catch the aforementioned Tyson Saner holding court for Epi323, and he had a cavalcade of comedy soundcast clippage for you. Well, three clips. Is that enough to, technically, be a cavalcade? I'm not sure. Let's look it up… Hmm. “Cavalcade. Noun. Definition 1: A procession of riders or ships. Definition 2: A dramatic sequence or procession: SERIES.” So there. Last week's show was definitely a cavalcade. Way to go, Tyson! You can still catch that show, “The Autumn Triple Play”, which included snippets from On The Rocks: Where Celebrities & Cocktails Mix, Gutting the Sacred Cow, and Chatabix. The episode still resides on Apple and Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, Amazon Music, iHeart Radio, Audible.com, Soundcloud, Podchaser, Podbay, and wherever finer soundcasts are streamed and/or download. That includes our own homesite, SuccotashShow.com, which contains the entire treasure trove of installments dating back to 2011. For this week's late-to-the-party-pal mess, which I'm calling “Debate, Argument, Brits & Smut”, you're in for some clips from If I Were You, The Legal Geeks, Off Menu, and Pornomedy. Henderson's Pants is once again riding our coattails with a freebie spot for their classic BauTrau Pants – classic because the references in the commercial are so damn old. CLIPS If I Were YouOur first clip comes from a show that has just passed the 560 episode mark! It's If I Were You, from HeadGum, and featuring hosts Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld. Both these guys are all over HeadGum because they've been there since it started. This show, If I Were You, drops every Monday and features the host-ages offering advice in realms that they both are and are not qualified to speak on. They invite listeners to send in their own “sticky situations” as they put, and they will try to help find a solution. Our clip comes from their milestone Epi560, entitled Mile High Club, and their listener query gets them talking about UFOs and ghosts. The Legal GeeksThis next clip is from not only a show I mentioned I was going to be on, namely The Legal Geeks, but it's from the show I WAS on and, in fact, features me along with show host Joshua Gilliland and some other attorneys. He co-hosts the show with Jessica Mederson but she was traveling the week I was asked to be an “expert witness” along with a bunch of other legal eagles, including Gregory Pang and a cast of their regulars. The show's entitled “Review of The She-Hulk: Attorney-at-Law – Episode 5” and, because my day job finds me in the world of branding, trademarks, and other such intellectual property, or “IP”, Josh invited me along to ring on some of the trademark issues that the Jessica Walters character (played by Tatiana Maslany) has to tangle with in that episode. Namely, She-Hulk gets sued for trademark infringement over the use of the She-Hulk name by one of her enemies. Backstory on The Legal Geeks soundcast: These real lawyers, headed up by Josh and Jessica, sound off on legal issues faced by fictional characters – everything from the MCU to the Star Wars Universe. Not just on the soundcast, but they show up to places like ComicCon in San Diego and run mock trials based on situations that crop up in these TV shows, movies, comic books, and so forth. Definitely check ‘em out! Off MenuThis next soundcast is where the “Brits” part of this week's title comes from. It's Off Menu, featuring a pair of British comedians, Ed Gamble and James Acaster. Each episode, they invite a guest into what they term their “magical restaurant” to choose their favorite starter (that's an appetizer to us Yanks), main course, side dish, dessert, and drink. It's all just a glorious excuse to deep dive into heady – and sometimes silly – convo with their guests. A recent episode featured the fantastic, amazing, and England's national treasure Richard E. Grant. This clip goes form the silly to the sublime, as Richard slides into how his late wife's last wish fueled his recently released memoir, A Pocketful of Happiness. PornomedyLast show off the bench today is only so because of alphabetization. It's a new soundcast, just a few episodes in, entitled Pornomedy. It's hosted by a good friend of Succotash, Monica Hamburg, who has not only had a couple of soundcasts over the past bunch of years that we've been on, but was our special guest co-host WAY back on Episode 64 in July of 2013, almost 10 years ago. She sent in this clip of Pornomedy, along with a note from which I quote the following: “Hi Marc: I hope you are doing well! So... I started a new podcast recently. "Pornomedy" which explores the weird world of free porn sites: Absurd porn comments (as though any aren't!), terrible titles, baffling tags - and more. This time, hilarious Baltimore comedian Mike Moran joins me. We speak of "The Chair" (i.e. It-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named) - as well as a porn commenter with maximum game, the right time to rent a truck for your porn film - and much more! This is only the 3rd episode of this new podcast (though it's on the feed with all the other shows I've done) but I like it. I hope you will too! (Of course, as always, no pressure if it's not right for the show ,etc.) Not right for the show – pfft! Oh, Monica, you DO go on! Okay, friend. That's about enough of that. And by “that” I mean this Episode 324 of Succotash. If you want more, there are always the archives OR pour some fresh Succotash into your ears next week when Tyson Saner brings you episode 325, which is sure to delight. I'm out of here but not before reminding you that if you're even wandering down a dark, lonely street in the middle of the night, and a shimmering figure emerges from the darkness and floats a few inches off the payment towards you to ask, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, Episode #323. Welcome! I'm glad you made it. Last week on Epi322 of Succotash, show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon, whom I alternate hosting duties with, brought you a quartet of clips for a show that he titled "Interesting Behaviors". The clips were from the soundcasts known as My Neighbors Are Dead, The Doug Stanhope Podcast, Sarah Halstead's Drinking During Business Hours, and Were You Raised By Wolves? They made for an enjoyable episode that I urge you to listen to at your earliest convenience. You can still find that episode and EVERY episode of Succotash going back to the first episodes from way back in 2011 at www.succotashshow.com and also on most soundcast streaming services including, but probably not limited to, Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart Radio, PodBay, and Podchaser. This week's episode, "Autumn Triple Play", contains three clips, one of each from the soundcasts known as On The Rocks: Where Celebrities & Cocktails Mix, Gutting the Sacred Cow", and Chatabix. This week's show is broght to you by our longtime (and 100% FAKE SPONSOR) Henderson's Pants and their new Fancy Pants for Fops. Let's get to it. CLIPS Gutting The Sacred CowFrom the show's description: Standup comedians Kevin Gootee and Kevin Israel love films and they love arguing about them. But in this unique podcast; they invite guests to come in and argue why some of the most financially successful, beloved or acclaimed films are trash. But here's the twist, the film must meet 1 of these criteria: widely beloved, financial success, or critically acclaimed. So no dunking on Friday the 13th part 8, we all know that's an egregious piece of s--. We give a platform with those who have unpopular opinions to be bold enough to voice them. Some films that have faced scrutiny: Back to the Future, The Dark Knight, Toy Story, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the Matrix, and Die Hard. Can the guests persuade us? Or do we rip them a new one? Give us a listen and we'll easily prove that we belong on any top movie podcast list. My clip comes from very recently - September 17th, 2022 - Entitled "Noodles from the Offspring FLUSHES Christmas Vacation DOWN THE SEWER": Episode 152. joining Kevin Gootee as co-host for this installment is longtime friend Terry Loda. On The Rocks: Where Celebrities & Cocktails MixTV & radio personality Alexander Rodriguez, along with co-host Stephanie Erb, sips and chats with your favorite celebrities from TV, film, Broadway, music, reality TV and pop culture in this weekly, entertainment, no holds barred talk show. Academy Award, Emmy Award, Grammy Award, Tony Award, Golden Globe Award winners – Alexander's drank with them all! It's talk radio with a twist! Our clip is from back in the Spring of this year - March, to be a bit more precise - and is entitled Gedde Watanabe (Sixteen Candles, Mulan, ER) Chats Diversity in Hollywood. I really liked hearing this interview. I chose a clip from the very beginning of it because I do love a big, detailed introduction and when an interview has the amount of warmth that this one clearly does. Chatabix This was recommended to me by none other than Davian Dent of Strange Times Podcast (longtime friend of Succotash and frequently clipped.) What's the show about? Basically, comedians David Earl & Joe Gillingham chat drivel and nonsense. A shambolic Breakfast Show with Special Guests and regular contributors. The clip we have dropped on September 12th, 2022, featuring guest Doug Stanhope. Wow, it seems like only a few minutes ago I was writing the intro to the show and now this bit at the end needs writing as well. Isn't that the way of things? I do hope you found something enjoyable in the program tonight…I say "tonight" for a couple of reasons, one is that it is actually night when I am recording this part, and the other is because, more often that not, I used to say that regardless of what time of day it was when I recorded…and now I still do. I appreciate your taking some of your time out to listen to what I selected for you. If you are now inspired to learn more about the entertainments you were just exposed to, you are free to do that. Maybe you'll come back to listen to the next show which would be Epi324 and will most likely be hosted by Marc Hershon. Maybe you've already listened to #324 because it is far enough in the future that you are listening to the episodes backwards, or just generally out-of-sequence for whatever reason you choose. Maybe you are an electric audio archivist far into the future when myself and everyone else I know, or knew of, are long dead and you are navigating the audio virtually with A.I. generated art to represent us soundcaster ghosts visually in some way. In any of those scenarios I do hope you have the oppourtunity to share us with others. We'd really appreciate it. Maybe, in your present, I still have the webpage www.tysonsaner.com which you could visit to check out links to another soundcast I co-host with Hunter Block called "Anti Social Show". There are also links to my YouTube channel which mostly features videos of myself playing video games. At this point in history, it is September of 2022 so I've just recently published an episode where I play "Slime Rancher 2" and give my first impressions of it. And finally, maybe, when you are checking those things out you will remember that you listened to this show at some point and discovered a soundcast that you will listen to every episode that you possibly can of it. Sometimes it works that way. Thank you for listening, be decent to each other and please remember to pass the Succotash. — Tyson Saner
It is time for intellectual property! Could Titania sue Jennifer Walters to not use the name She-Hulk? For this complex answer, we have two guest stars: Gregory Pang, who is an IP attorney in Canada, and Marc Hershon, from the Succotash Show, who is a Senior Manager of Naming and Verbal Identity at one of the biggest branding & design studios in the world. Tune in for our legal analysis of proper venues for trademark claims, how summary judgment hearings work, and the importance of civil discovery. Support the show
There you are! Right on time. I just got here myself, actually. Yes, it's me, Marc Hershon, creator, executive producer, and your host for this Episode 322 of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. And what does that mean? Our main focus is to shine a favorable light on the world of comedy soundcast – or podcasts, if you insist – usually by playing clips of a variety of shows but sometimes by chatting with fellow soundcasters or other people in the business of show. When I say “we”, that's not the royal “we”, I'm referring to myself and my kindly, well-versed co-host Tyson Saner. Unlike traditional co-hosts, Tyson and I don't often appear together on our episodes. Instead, we've found that we can crank out these shows every week if we divide and conquer the task of listening to soundcasts and clipping out bite-sized segments to share with you. Last week, for example, Tyson was hosting Epi321, entitled “Summer Close-Out Clips” and dealt out a trio of clips from Last Week on Earth with Ben Gleib, Best Friends Back, Alright!, and The Fckry with Leslie Jones and Lenny Marcus. In case you were somewhere last week where soundcasts aren't available, you can still get Episode 321 at a wide array of soundcast distribution points – including Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart Radio, PodBay, Podchaser and, of course, always on our homesite at SuccotashShow.com, where you'll find our entire archive of 11 and a half years of shows. As for this week's show, which I'm calling “Interesting Behaviors”, I've got clips from My Neighbors Are Dead, The Doug Stanhope Podcast, Sarah Halstead's Drinking During Business Hours, and Were You Raised By Wolves? This episode is brought to you by our fictitious, non-paying sponsor Henderson's Pants and their seasonally appropriate Leaf Behind Pants. I've also got the TweetSack, where we acknowledge folks that has used our @Succotashshow handle in their socials – during which, by the way, I'll be reading an actual email which we just go in. And there's even a call into our Succotash & Runaway Truck Hotline we'll get to today. CLIPS My Neighbors Are DeadThe last time we checked in with the soundcast called My Neighbors Are Dead was a little over a hundred episodes ago, when Tyson clipped it in Epi219. I actually reviewed the show back in 2017 for the then-Splitsider.com and a quote from my review is STILL up on their homesite at MyNeighborsAreDead.com, where I wrote, “I wish I'd thought of that!” And I do. The brainfever of Adam Peacock, MNAD chats up the lesser known characters from scary movies. He's had a lot of comics and others pop in to voice the horror movie side characters, but recently Patton Oswalt (who I SWEAR I will get in front of the Succotash mics one of these days) was on as truck dispatcher Frank Ludd and his take on one of his company's hapless drivers, Ed, who made the mistake of stopping to pick up a “hippie chick” as he put it, and barely escaped with his life. Our clip covers how part of it went down… Sarah Halstead's Drinking During Business Hours Normally Tyson and I come across the soundcasts we clip pretty much the same way you and people you know might: We scan the scads and scads of shows that are out there and we see what captures our fancy about one show or another. Sometimes it's a familiar name or face, occasionally it's shows that share a similar theme, and often it's a bit of a crap shoot. There are plenty that I've listened to that I just end up not finding a viable clip. Or the sound quality's off. Or whatever. In the case of this next clip, however, it was a comedian buddy of mine, Rich Chassler, and the surprise announcement via his socials that he had proposed to comedian Sarah Halstead. That's when I learned that in addition to soon becoming the future Mrs. Chassler – I don't know if she's actually changing her name – that she's also the host of Sarah Halstead's Drinking During Business Hours. Her usual M.O. on the show is to crack open a bottle of vino and kick back with what she called a ‘diverse line of creatives about their fife's journey, passions, and what might lead them to drink during business hours.” In this case, after having taken a couple week off from dropping new episodes, Sarah is back this week for Episode 47 and her guest is the future Mister Halstead…Rich Chassler. The Doug Stanhope PodcastWe're going to revisit another show and this one we haven't clipped since 2013. It's The Doug Stanhope Show with the titular Doug Stanhope. Truly an original comedy voice, Doug also take a great interest in the folks he talks to and recently for his 499th episode back in August he invited comedian Kristine Levine into his studio, affectionately called the The Funhouse, in Bisbee, Arizona. Entitled “Kristine's Wad of Gum is Cancer”, they get into her bout with and upcoming operation for stomach cancer. Our clip is from early in the show, when Kristine talks about her wait problem and other issues. (There's a GoFundMe for Kristine. And Doug Stanhope has a new audio book out on Audible.com called “No Encore For The Donkey”.) Were You Raised By Wolves? Our last clip this week deals with the idea of etiquette and how to handle yourself mixed company. Hosts Nick Leighton and Leah Bonnema have a virtual grab bag of sticky social situations and they break out some usually pretty practical advice how to deal with stuff. Their episode from last week was called “High Tea, Overcoming Terrible Handwriting, Tipping for Gas in new Jersey, and More”, and the clip I've snipped deals with a few of the finer points of auto etiquette. If you'd like to write to me or my co-host Tyson Saner, it's SO easy! Just email me at m-a-r-c@SuccotashShow.com or Tyson at t-y-s-o-n@SuccotashShow.com and who knows? We may read YOUR email on the show! Remember to catch my partner in soundcasting, Tyson Saner, in this same feed next week for episode 323. Oh, and I almost forgot! I'm appearing on an episode of the Legal Geeks soundcast this week. Not sure when it drops but that's show show with real lawyers, headed up by friend-of-the-Succotash and past guest Josh Gilliland and Jessica Mederson, talking about legal issues that crop up in comic books, movies, and other not-real-world situations. They did an episode about last week's fifth episode of She-Hulk on the Disney Channel when the main character gets sued by her nemesis, Titania, for infringing on the She-Hulk trademark. Since I actually work in the branding business when I'm not clipping soundcasts, I got called in as a kind of “expert witness” as the legal eagles batted that case around. Okay, last thing: The next time you're at the grocery store and you find yourself reaching for the last bottle of Clamato juice at the same time as someone, look ‘em square in the eye and ask: “Have you heard anything good lately?” If their answer is “No”, `won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon Other than that, if you find yourself pushing a cart down the aisle in your neighborhood grocery store and a kindly senior citizen is heading your way from the other end of the aisle and stops you to ask, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won't you please pass the Succotash? Marc Hershon
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner. Welcome to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. I will be your host for the duration of this episode, which happens to be #321…contact, it's the secret, it's the moment when everything happens…and in THIS particular case, it is an episode that will be bringing you clips from other people's soundcasts for you to sample, and perhaps seek more of to listen to over the course of your natural, listening lives… it happens. Last week in Epi320, show creator and executive producer Marc Hershon brought you an episode of Succotash that took on the alternate form of the show known as a "Chats" episode. In that episode, Mr. Hershon welcomed guest Christine Blackburn. Who, in addition to hosting a live show called Story Worthy, and the story-telling game show soundcast Story Smash, has now launched her newest soundcast called My Life in 3 Songs featuring comedians talking about a trio of songs that heavily influenced their life and, often, careers. I really enjoyed listening to that episode, and so might you. It's sill available to listen to thru services such as Apple & Google Podcasts, Soundcloud, Spotify, Amazon Music, Audible.com, iHeart Radio, Podbay, Podchaser, and Stitcher. Of course you can also find it and EVERY episode of Succotash thru it's many iterations over the last 11+ years at www.succotashshow.com. This week, I have a trio of clips of soundcasts for you to consider for future listening. They are from the soundcasts known as Last Week on Earth with Ben Gleib, Best Friends Back, Alright!, and The Fckry with Leslie Jones and Lenny Marcus. It's almost inconceivable to imagine putting together an episode of Succotash without including a classic advertisement from our 100% fake sponsor Henderson's Pants, but it totally could happen one day. (If, for instance, a REAL sponsor would be willing to take us on. … One can dream.) in the meantime, this episode of the show is brought to you by their Picnic Pants! Ok, that's enough preamble from me so without further faffing about… let's get to the clips! CLIPS Last Week on Earth with Ben Gleib From the show description: News. Pop Culture. Politics. Weird stories. EVERYTHING that happened during the last week. Comedian Ben Gleib catches you up on it all, while making fun of basically everything. Some people tell him this podcast is the way they prefer to get the news. He thinks these people are geniuses. Sometimes he's joined by celebrity guests like comedians, actors, politicians, Four-Star Generals, and his parents. But mostly he talks to himself. If you've been in a coma for the last 7 days, this podcast should not be high on your list of things to tackle. Our clip hails from last month, August 13th, 2022, an episode entitled "The New Season Starts Now!" - (The previous episode posted September 2nd, 2021) Ben catches us up on everything since last season. Including his new hour special "The Mad King" which dropped on YouTube Aug 14th! Best Friends Back, Alright! The show's description at Apple Podcasts goes something liek this: "Oh my God, they're back again. Stevie Wynne Levine (Good Mythical Morning with Rhett & Link) and her high school best friend, Neagheen Homaifar, haven't been friends for over fifteen years. Can they rekindle their best friendship through a weekly podcast? Some things never change, and some things do. My clip is from their premier episode that dropped back in March, called "Beyoncé Stole Our Inside Joke." The hosts reconnect after a decade and a half, and set the scene of their best friendship back in 2002 at Grimsley High School in Greensboro, NC. They recount various events that defined their adolescence; from George W. Bush choking on a pretzel, to the release of the film "Holes," to the launch of YouTube. Neagheen tries to decipher the strange things she wrote in Stevie's yearbook. The Fckry with Leslie Jones and Lenny Marcus As this show's homebase Earwolf describes the show: Keeping it 100 is Leslie Jones' mission and any fckry will not be tolerated. Each week Leslie and her co-host, Lenny Marcus, expose the fckry of any given topic and they have a fun time doing it. They interview special guests and answer listener questions. Plus, in the ‘fckry of the week' segment, Leslie and Lenny call out people, places, things or situations. Nothing is off limits and you don't want to miss it." Our selected snippet was harvested from the August 17th episode of this year, entitled "Use Ya MuthaF'ckin' T*****s" w/guest Denita Abernethy Holmes, although our clip takes place before the guest appears. And another episode is in the can and on its way to the archives over at www.succotashshow.com … and pretty much everywhere else one can listen to soundcasts. I do hope you find something interesting and/or funny in the offerings presented to you in this episode. I aim to please. I sometimes feel that the amount of listening to soundcasts that I do, not only for Succotash but also in my everyday life, has had some sort of effect on my brain. The way I process information, perhaps. I could say that I have a lot of practice listening to people talk. I never could have foreseen the amount of active listening that is now a regular part of my existence. I mean, I used to listen to a LOT of music before discovering soundcasts because I also make music occasionally but that's not the same kind of listening, really. There have to be other people that spend as much, or possibly even more, of their time listening to people have conversations that they cannot participate in in real time as I do. I wonder what percentage of listeners of soundcasts experience them the way I have for easily 13 years? Anybody know of any ongoing studies? Seriously, I really want to know. I need to know if I should do less of it in case there is any sort of detrimental effect on my brain as a result. Maybe it's fine. Maybe, in the most general sense, our brains can take it. My ears aren't bleeding yet, so that's gotta count for something, right? Anyway, speaking of listening, thank YOU for doing exactly that. If you liked what you heard, tune in next week for Epi322 in which Marc will bring you whatever he desires to share with you. In the meantime, be decent to each other, go to www.tysonsaner.com to find all my links to the stuff I choose to share with you, and if anyone asks you if you have heard anything interesting lately, and we spring to mind, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner

Hello, gentle listener! Welcome to Episode 320 of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. I'm Marc Hershon, your host for this latest stroll through Soundcastland. If you happened to somehow miss last week's Episode #319, entitled “Title Resonance” and masterfully curated by my counterpart and co-host, Tyson Saner, during which he played snippets for a trio of soundcast treats including Not Today, Thank You, Strong Songs, and Trashy Trashy, fear not! It is still within earshot for you through any one of a number of online distribution points, including (but not limited to) Apple & Google Podcasts, Soundcloud, Spotify, Amazon Music, Audible.com, iHeart Radio, Podbay, Podchaser, Stitcher and, of course, our very own Island of Misfit Toys here on the Soundcast Sea at SuccotashShow.com. For this week's episode, I have no such bouquet of clippage to share with you because I am very happy to welcome a special guest in for a chat! This is Christine Blackburn's first actual interview here, even though I've talked to her numerous times in the past as a friend of Succotash. Our first run-in was during the very first Los Angeles Podcast Festival – an event which lasted 5 years and then was eclipsed by some giant corporate entities' moves to squelch the li'l guy. We kept running into each other at subsequent Podcast Fests, and Christine was instrumental in helping to round up various and sundry soundcasters to come join me at the Succotash microphones we had set up. Her first soundcast is just slightly longer running than this one, called Story Worthy, and features guests telling stories in front of a live audience. She has also been running Story Smash, the story-telling game show soundcast. (My most recent guest, Blaine Capatch, is a frequent judge on that show.) And now she's has just launched her newest soundcast called My Life in 3 Songs, featuring comedians talking about a trio of songs that heavily influenced their life and, often, careers. Our chat took place a couple weeks ago, just before My Life in 3 Songs debuted on Spotify, so you'll hear us talking about the fact the show is about to drop when, in fact, it is now available! Our Succotash chat with Christine Blackburn is brought to you by out completely fake sponsor Henderson's Pants, and the latest word on their new Summer Stock Slacks! Thanks again to our guest, Christine Blackburn. Please check out ALL her soundcasts, won't you? Don't forget to grab Succotash Epi321 next time around in this very same feed with Tyson Saner bringing the soundcastic magic to you. And remember: If you happen to be out on the open plains, running some cattle from Texas to Wyoming, and Cookie, the grizzled cook in the chuckwagon happens to ask if you've heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
