New manager follows 'championship behaviors' The Hudson Valley Renegades opened their 2025 baseball season with a winning weekend, besting the Jersey Shore BlueClaws in two of three games at Heritage Financial Park (formerly Dutchess Stadium). The 'Gades lost the season opener, 3-1, on April 4 in front of 3,600 fans but bounced back, winning 8-7 on Saturday and 6-2 on Sunday. The team will finish a six-game road series with the Brooklyn Cyclones on Sunday (April 13) then return to Wappingers Falls for a six-game homestand with the Wilmington Blue Rocks beginning Tuesday. The Renegades, the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have a new and an "old" look going into their 132-game season in the South Atlantic League North Division. (The five minor-league levels are Rookie League, Single-A, High-A, Double-A and Triple-A.) The entire coaching staff is new, led by manager James Cooper, 42, who takes over from Nick Ortiz, who left for the Houston Astros organization. Cooper previously managed the Yankees' Single-A affiliate, the Tampa Tarpons, and coached at Grambling State University in Louisiana for 12 seasons. As a player, Cooper was drafted by the Astros in 2004 and played two seasons in the minor leagues and a season in Canada. Although the Renegades players range in age from 18 to their early 20s, this is an experienced team. The opening roster included 21 veterans of the 2023 and 2024 squads along with nine newcomers. Nineteen of the 30 players are pitchers. The squad has six of the Yankees' top 20 prospects, including infielder George Lombard Jr. (No. 2) and pitcher Ben Hess (No. 4). The others are pitchers Bryce Cunningham (No. 6), Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz (No. 8), Carlos Lagrange (No. 19) and Kyle Carr (No. 20). The No. 1 prospect, Jasson Dominguez, is on the Yankees' roster. The 2025 Renegades have a long tradition of winning to live up to. The team won 73 games last season and reached the league championship, where it lost to Bowling Green. It was the Renegades' 12th consecutive winning season. Since 2012 the Renegades have recorded the highest winning percentage in the minor leagues. Asked on April 1 if he feels added pressure coming to a franchise where winning is the default, Cooper said "for me to leave this place better than I found it, we have to win it [the title]. That'll be the mission." Cooper knows many of the players, having coached them in the past on other teams, including Lombard. "You understand what gets a player going if you've had a relationship over the years," he said. "We just want to do everything we can to develop these guys, put them in positions to go out here and dominate and give them a chance to move up." Before receiving a $3.3 million signing bonus in 2023, Lombard, 19, played shortstop at Gulliver Prep in Pinecrest, Florida. In 2024 he played 91 games with the Tampa Tarpons before joining the Renegades for 29 games. This spring Lombard attended the Yankees training camp. "The thing you learn from those guys is their attitude, the mindset and confidence they bring to the game every single day," he said. "It takes a different type of confidence to be successful at the level they are. "It was a good being here last year, getting a little taste of it," he said. "Physically, I'm just trying to get faster and stronger every year, trying to become an all-around better baseball player." Founded in 1994, the Renegades were part of the Texas Rangers' organization until 1996, when they moved to the Tampa Bay Rays. They won league titles in 1999, 2012 and 2017 and division titles three times since 2021. Heritage Financial Park is located at 1500 Route 9D in Wappingers Falls, just north of Beacon. Welcome to another special edition of "Fearless," home studio edition. Jason and Steve Kim react to a plethora of news stories. Whoopi Goldberg tells trans icon Dylan Mulvaney that she doesn't understand why there needs to be a separation between men and women in sports. She clearly wasn't an athlete growing up, except maybe at the victim Olympics. March is here, and the madness is brewing. Duke rookie sensation Cooper Flag is shockingly projected to stay in college rather than be the consensus #1 overall pick in the NBA Draft. NIL has changed the way colleges view "one and done." The king race-baiter, Ryan Clark, weighs in on the LeBron James and Stephen A. Smith provocation. Rectifying his old ways, Clark separates from his LeBron groupie roots and actually defends Stephen A., claiming LeBron handled that situation poorly. "Pivoting" to the NFL off-season, Sam Darnold agrees to a three-year deal to become the next quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. Will Darnold bring the same success he brought to the Vikings? After kicking Aaron Rodgers to the curb, the New York Jets sign backup Steelers QB Justin Fields to be their head signal caller, hoping that Fields is ready to be a QB1. On the flip side, the QB window is closing for free agent Aaron Rodgers, as the Giants, Vikings, and Steelers are the only teams that still lack a bridge QB. Where will the "Enigma" call home? The Daily Wire's very own Matt Walsh calls out Jason to address the Jeremy Boreing feud that took place last week. Walsh disagrees with Jason's logic on the timing of when wrongfully convicted Derek Chauvin should be pardoned. Walsh made a claim that Jason either secretly supports BLM or he just doesn't want to agree with Ben Shapiro. Shemeka Michelle joins Jason in unpacking Walsh's claim as well as discussing the recent death of a foster child who was crushed to death by a 340-pound woman. Today's Sponsors: PreBorn PreBorn's Network of Clinics are on standby for women in their darkest hour and they meet them with God's love and free services to help them choose life. Listen in and see who you'll meet in the Stone Creek Brides series. note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you.  Kathleen Rouser's Stone Creek Brides series offers strong heroines, each with something they'd rather keep quiet.   This latest novel, Scandals and Mercies, dives deep into the conflict between expectations and obligations and how the Lord handles those. Scandals and Mercies by Kathleen Rouser  He's a reporter determined to uncover the truth, but the secrets he finds could crush her family—and their second chance at love. Taken from her family's farm to be raised by her wealthy aunt and uncle, Nora Armstrong has accepted that not only will she never realize her dream of becoming a teacher, she'd also rather be a spinster than submit to her cruel aunt's society selection of a suitable husband. The one man who caught her eye betrayed her best friend. And she's got enough on her hands, hiding her sister's shameful secret from her aunt. When the local home for unwed mothers burns down, the arson investigation brings big-city reporter James Cooper back to Stone Creek—and back into Nora's life. James also has a meddling aunt who raises more questions than she answers about his past. Not to mention, he can't figure out why Nora constantly rebuffs him. When his reporting casts aspersions on the local church and lays the blame for the fire and a series of robberies at the wrong feet, he risks losing his new position at the paper. As they seek to unravel the town's mystery, rescue endangered mothers and children, and navigate their own family secrets forced to light, James and Nora increasingly turn to each other for help. But can they overcome James's lack of faith and the disapproval of Nora's guardians to find a second chance at love? Learn more about Kathleen on her WEBSITE and follow her on GoodReads and BookBub. Conversations with Musicians, with Leah Roseman

This week's episode is unusual because 4 musicians are featured, the members of the Euclid Quartet. They are a world-class string quartet celebrating their 25th anniversary with a fantastic album of short pieces, entitled Breve, and we are featuring several pieces from that album as part of this episode. Breve album: https://breve.hearnow.com/ You'll get to know each member of the quartet, which is in residence at Indiana University South Bend: Jameson Cooper, violinist and founding member originally from England; you'll hear about his experiences as a student of Dorothy Delay, and Roland and Almita Vamos. He also talked about the formative years of the quartet and the nuts and bolts of learning repertoire. The other violinist in the quartet is Aviva Hakanoglu, who holds degrees from Harvard, Indiana University and Stony Brook university and was a student of Philip Setzer, and it was really interesting to hear about her experience auditioning for the quartet and her perspectives on community outreach and as an educator. Violist Luis Enrique Vargas is a long-time member of the Euclid quartet, and started his life in music in Venezuela at the age of 14, and spoke about introducing Latin American composers to his colleagues. Finally cellist Justin Goldsmith is the newest member of the quartet.
