And is there anything China CAN'T synchronize? The original podcast post is here: binary-system-podcast-341-wtnv-219-the-traveling-tarot-reader-and-my-dad-wrote-a-porno-finale We did something different with the Night Vale recap this week, because it's really two stories in one: first we've got to talk about how much we haaaaaate Dr. Janet Lubelle and her stupid smug face, and she better not lay a finger on Carlos because we WILL riot. Then go over the weird tarot cards that Cecil pulls from the deck and, seriously, have we mentioned how much we like tarot cards? We're not sure we believe they can tell the future, but man alive are they cool. So many interesting images, and they make the best Fan Art Bait. Finally, we can't let it go by without making a fuss: this week marked the end of the My Dad Wrote a Porno podcast, eight years of hilariously awful, um, "erotic literature." We're sad of course, but they went out with a bang, and we've got some speculations about what they're up to next. (Plus look out for random tangents into the Hawkeye series, the latest season of The Crown, and an update on LA Comic Con photos.) This week's outro is a clip from Drifting by Midival Punditz. I'm Tammi, and with me is of course Olivia... OLIVIA Hello everyone! TAMMI So excited to take over again! OLIVIA (laughs) I'm glad you are! I couldn't do this on top of everything else. TAMMI Happy to. So, a lot has been happening in the voicemails lately.  OLIVIA Oh yes. TAMMI How do you feel about it all? OLIVIA I feel... relieved that I am not trying to keep so many secrets anymore. (beat) And awful about Kat's miscarriage, of course. TAMMI Yes. Did you know that would happen? OLIVIA No! I mean, I knew she doesn't have a kid my age, but I knew nothing about the miscarriage. Not really the sort of thing she would talk to a child about, I suppose. And by the time I was grown up, it was so long ago.  TAMMI But that means you knew something would happen. OLIVIA I did. And I was waiting for it – dreading it. But I couldn't know when it would happen. And of course I *did* think she could have had a child and then put them up for adoption, too. TAMMI Oh... Didn't think of that. So you were surprised when Kat announced she was pregnant in the voicemails?  OLIVIA More like shocked. I was waiting for my mama – Rachel – to start talking about being pregnant, and sort of mentally preparing for telling the listeners, and then all of a sudden Kat is pregnant instead.  TAMMI I can imagine. So, you call Rachel your mama-  OLIVIA And Jess my mum, yeah. I don't know if my parents planned that or if it just happened, but it's handy for keeping them straight. TAMMI (raucous laughter) Straight? OLIVIA (joins in the laughter) Oh dear. *That* came out wrong. TAMMI (still laughing) Came out? OLIVIA (laughs again) Stop it!  TAMMI (laughter winding down) OK. Fine. Where were we?  OLIVIA (still a little giggly) I don't know. TAMMI (slight laughter left) Guess it's my job to... take over and check what we are supposed to be talking about... (paper rustling, deep breath) Right. Yes. We talked about this last episode, you found something special for us to include today, right Olivia? OLIVIA I did! In a different folder of my mum's old computer I found some recordings of Kat and Jess from drama school. They start off serious but it's a rehearsal so I think there's some silly stuff too.  TAMMI Fun! What are they rehearsing? OLIVIA A play called House of Bernarda Alba by a Spanish playwright (paper rustles) Federico Garcia Lorca. I'd never heard of it – googled and it seems to be a pretty depressing story about a group of sisters in 1930's Spain. But it's all women which is pretty cool. TAMMI Yeah – that must be unusual for the time. All right, let's listen! Scene B2:2 (click, dramatic music?) DIRECTOR (claps hands twice) Right, everyone, we're doing the scene with Amelia and Martirio, everyone else can take 30, you lucky bastards. (sound of group of actors leaving, low chatting (all female), doors closing) Right. So where are you when this scene begins? KAT Um... (script rustles) I'm at the table, doing some mending. JESS Me too. DIRECTOR All right, all right, good. Places. (sound of movement, wooden chairs, sitting down) Whenever you're ready, you can... start. KAT (as AMELIA)  (sighs) I no longer know if it's better to have a fiancé or not. JESS (as MARTIRIO)  It makes no difference. KAT (as AMELIA)  It's all the gossip that's to blame, they won't let you live. Adelaida must have had a bad time of it. JESS (as MARTIRIO)  (uncertain) They're afraid of mother. She's the only one who knows the truth about Adelaida's father and how he got his land. Whenever she comes here, mother sticks the knife in. Her father killed his first wife's husband, in Cuba, to marry- DIRECTOR Right. Thank you. All right. Um. You know. It sounds like you're reading a grocery list, Jess, and it's not a good one, y'know? ‘S... just full of oranges. Just... C'mon!  JESS (frustrated sound) All right. DIRECTOR This is one of those lines that you have to (makes grunting noise), you have to (makes grunting noise), yes, you see? You have to inject some interest into it, because it's all exposition. Right? You got that?  JESS (scribbles on script) Right.  DIRECTOR And you know it's a, it's a dramatic story, it's not a... you know, it's not a introverts festival- It's just... Look, do we have a hat anywhere? (rummages around) Do we have a hat? Do we have a hat somewhere? Yes! Here! (throws it at JESS, she catches it) Right. OK. So- Put that on. Right. Now do the scene from the top, but stand over here. Kat, your job, right, if you're willing to accept it, is to grab the hat.  KAT (smiles) OK. DIRECTOR Right. And Jess, right, you, you cannot let her grab it.  JESS (smiles) Got it. DIRECTOR Whenever you're ready. (sound of tussle and slight giggles, also scripts being waved around, throughout scene, BOTH much quicker and more energetic) KAT (as AMELIA)  I no longer know if it's better to have a fiancé or not. JESS (as MARTIRIO)  It makes no difference. KAT (as AMELIA)  It's all the gossip that's to blame, they won't let you live. Adelaida must have had a bad time of it. JESS (as MARTIRIO)  They're afraid of mother. She's the only one who knows the truth about Adelaida's father and how he got his land. Whenever she comes here, mother sticks the knife in. Her father killed his first wife's husband, in Cuba, to marry the wife. Then he abandoned her here, and went off with another woman who had a daughter, and *then* had an affair with the daughter, Adelaida's mother, and married *her* when the second wife died insane. DIRECTOR Thank you! Better. Right. Jess, Jess, Jess, Jess, come here, come here, could you feel the difference, yes? JESS Yes! DIRECTOR Yes, good. Good, good, good. Right. Now you need to keep that energy, both of you, OK, but now get into the emotions of the scenes, right. Now, can't have you sitting down. Um... (script pages rustling) Jess, you stand up, right, and you go down stage left on “It makes no difference”. OK, do that. JESS Yep. (scribbles on script) DIRECTOR OK, good. Aah, and Kat, um, can you follow her on “It's all the gossip...” so you end up here. (sounds of moving around) Like this. OK? No... That's right, good. More hip. Good, lovely. KAT OK. (scribbles on script) DIRECTOR Take it from “And why is the wretch...”, Kat. KAT Where? (script pages rustling) Oh. OK. DIRECTOR Whenever you're ready. (pause) OK, come on. Whenever you're ready. KAT (as AMELIA)  And why is that wretch not in jail? JESS (as MARTIRIO)  Because men cover up things like that among themselves, and no one's willing to speak out. KAT (as AMELIA)  But Adelaida's not to blame for all that. JESS (as MARTIRIO)  No, but stories are repeated. And to me it all seems one dreadful repetition. Her fate is the same as her mother's and her grandmother's, both wives of the man who engendered her. (stops) Wait, “engendered”? (beat) Oh, gross! Three generations of women forced into incest.  (sound of disgust from KAT) DIRECTOR Yes! Yes, exactly. Save your disgust for Martirio, OK? From, c'mon let's go from “Her fate is...” JESS Sorry. (clears throat) Her fate is the same as her mother's and her grandmother's, both wives of the man who engendered her. KAT (as AMELIA)  What a terrible thing! JESS (as MARTIRIO)  It's better never to see a man. Since childhood they make me afraid. I'd see them in the yard yoking the oxen and lifting the sacks of wheat, shouting and stamping, and I was always afraid of growing up and suddenly finding myself in their arms. God has made me weak and ugly and has kept them away from me. KAT (as AMELIA)  Don't say such things! Enrique Humanes was after you and he liked you. JESS (as MARTIRIO)  People invent things! Once I stood by the window in my nightgown till dawn, because his farmhand's daughter told me he was going to stop by, but he never came. It was all talk. Then he married another girl with more money than I. KAT (as AMELIA)  And she, as ugly as the devil! JESS (as MARTIRIO)  What does beauty matter to them? What matters are land, oxen, and a submissive bitch to fetch them their food. KAT (as AMELIA)  Ay! DIRECTOR Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you- Lovely. Right. Hm... (script pages rustling) JESS (laughs, to KAT) I love Amelia - “Ay”! KAT (laughs, to JESS) Yes! And Martirio – “submissive bitch”. JESS Yeah – you think I'm typecast? “Better never to see a man”? KAT (smiles) Probably. Hang on. You feeling “ugly and weak”? JESS (laughs) Well...  DIRECTOR All right, OK, from the top. Kat, I want you to really think about Amelia's objective here – OK, what does she want? Right, and Jess, a little... (fades out) (dramatic music?, click) Scene B2:3 TAMMI That was fun! OLIVIA Yes! Though seems like an awful story. TAMMI It does. Though – in that horrible line about the father killing the wives and marrying the daughters... I've been listening to this podcast called My Dad Wrote a Porno lately – have you heard it?  OLIVIA Yes – it's huge – millions of listeners. TAMMI And SO funny! OLIVIA Mm. Not quite my cup of tea, but sure. TAMMI I love it. Anyway, I kept hearing that line read as part of the confusing narrative of Belinda Blinked – “Her father killed his first wife in Cuba and married the daughter and abandoned her and then his second wives first cousin's uncle...” (BOTH laugh) OLIVIA Not *quite* as much sex in this play, though. TAMMI No. At least not in the scene we heard! OLIVIA True! TAMMI All right, better wrap this up. Anything you want to say before we go? OLIVIA Thank you, Patreon supporters, again and always. You support means so much. TAMMI Yes. Thank you! I will take over again in about three months! Bye! OLIVIA Bye! (OUTRO) (BLOOPERS) (OUTRO MUSIC)

The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2021/06/binary-system-podcast-271-lore-olympus-and-the-loki-tv-show/ We haven't had a chance to discuss Lore Olympus for a while, so this week we're devoting the entire episode to a recap of episodes 159-161 and oh who are we kidding LET'S TALK ABOUT LOKI. In all seriousness, we do get around to a spoilerrific discussion of some really fantastic episodes of Lore Olympus (content warning for a therapy session about the trauma Apollo put Persephone through) but let's face it, we had zero idea what to expect from the Loki TV series, and the season premiere somehow gave us everything we wanted. The outro music this week is a clip from Lost in the Zen Room by TeknoAxe. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2021/06/binary-system-podcast-272-welcome-to-night-vale-lore-olympus-and-loki/ This week we're recapping Welcome to Night Vale's 9th Anniversary episode (NINE YEARS holy Glow Cloud where does the time go) which ended up being a celebration not just of Night Vale but of podcasts in general, as over a dozen shows contributed to the Night Vale universe. But first up we've got the weekly SitRep with beers that taste like beers and thoughts on whether or not registering for the vaccine makes you lose any more privacy than what you already lost to the super computer you carry around in your pocket so you can take pictures of your friend's cat. BUT on a lighter note we also recap the second episode of Loki, and sure, we go over all the developments and Easter eggs, but mostly we're just squeeing over Tom Hiddleston BECAUSE HE'S PERFECT. And then we get into the latest episode of Lore Olympus and the newest info on the Golden Traitor, and Hades and Persephone's growing relationship, which is also perfect. The outro music this week is a clip from Atari Upgrade by TeknoAxe. Yes ANYWAY, after a Night Vale recap where we touch on the dangers of letting the knitters and crocheters near each other, we also giggled about our favorite scenes in the My Dad Wrote A Porno podcast, fangirled over the effects in The Mandalorian, and wished for horrible things to happen to Minth in Lore Olympus because she is OUT OF HER MIND. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2017/09/binary-system-podcast-94-eclipse-recap-and-wtnv-112-citizen-spotlight-2/ It's a nice rambly podcast this week, first with a Night Vale recap where Cecil talks about eclipses you can't see from this planet and then gets stuck in his own recording booth. And then Elizabeth drags the podcast off on not one but TWO tangents, once about mythical two-headed snakes and another about alien tourists on Earth. And finally a segue into the Defenders, John Barrowman's awesome DragonCon cosplay, sand castles, Lady Killer, Motor Girl, conventions, Cabin in the Woods, and “My Dad Wrote a Porno.” Prefer your podcasts in youtube form? You're in luck! https://youtu.be/VMFSXrheQmw Correction the first: after going on and on about how cool the poem “Amphisbaena” is, it might've been nice to actually mention what it is. It's a snake with a head at each end. There you go. (We were also probably pronouncing it incorrectly, it's “Am-fis-BEAN-uh” not “Am-fis-BEAM-uh.” Correction the second: C.J. Cherryh's real name is Carolyn Janice Cherry, and she pronounces it “Cherry,” she added the H because of the whole “we need you to use a name that doesn't sound feminine” thing. Don't get us started. Correction the third: Elizabeth said she read Lady Killers. She meant Lady KILLER, singular. And it's by Joëlle Jones, since we can never remember to say her whole name ON the podcast.

"Somebody's getting maaarried!" People of a certain generation will know to sing that line to a tune created for the film The Muppets Take Manhattan. Of course in our case, it's Kate who is getting hitched later this week (on Friday!). So while we do want to do a book in honor of Eric Carle and one in honor of Lois Ehlert, this is not the right week to do so. But what wedding related picture book could Betsy possibly come up with? None other than the very German picture book The Pigs' Wedding. Of course the last German import we did was Duck, Death and the Tulip, so let's hope this book is a tad bit cheerier. How accurate is the wedding in this book? Kate's in a primo position to comment on this point. So are you ready? It's schwein time! Show Notes: Betsy mentions at one point that there is a Weston Woods video of this book. Here is a selection of that film, including the story's song. Now, fully orchestrated. 100 points if you can name the narrator: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9soBEvNzUQ Betsy Recommends: New seasons of Owl House, Lego Masters, My Dad Wrote a Porno, and Marlon & Jake Read Dead People Kate Recommends: hirokisan79 : https://www.instagram.com/hirokisan79/?hl=en For the full Show Notes please visit: https://blogs.slj.com/afuse8production/2021/05/31/fuse-8-n-kate-the-pigs-wedding-by-helme-heine/

Alice Levine, James Cooper an Jamie Morten have been making media since they played around at their uni TV station, and talk about how to make a home-made passion project into a multi platform media phenomenon, when to monetise and how to tell when something's really really funny.

Imagine discovering an erotic manuscript written by your father, and instead of dying of shame, you share it with your friends, die laughing and turn it into a podcast. That was just the start of the journey shared by James Cooper, Jamie Morton and Alice Levine of the smash hit global podcast, "My Dad Wrote a Porno."Since the show has started, it's gotten endorsements from some A-list celebrities—such as Elijah Wood, Emma Thompson and Daisy Ridley—and some of those celebs have even come on to chat about it.While the show feels like an impromptu gathering of friends, it's really the product of a well thought-out strategy to develop and market specific content. And that strategy was highly successful: the global hit podcast has been downloaded hundreds of millions of times, the team has produced and starred in a live HBO comedy special and gone on world tour.Morton and Cooper talk to Red Bee Deputy Managing Director Aileen Madden at Promax Europe 2019 in Amsterdam about how they made it all happen.

Back to Work, Roderick on the Line.

It can get confusing. Wedding Planner, Wedding Consultant, Day Of Coordination, Month Of Coordination, the venue has a coordinator, we don't blame you for being confused. We aren't just Wedding Planners, we're real people, y'all! Also, Christy is into the podcast ‘My Dad Wrote a Porno', check it out, you'll thank us later. Wedding Planners come in many shapes and sizes! And titles. A planner and coordinator are similar – engaged couples hire them and then the planner works with the couple directly, providing guidance and references, helping with the timeline and all the logistics, as an advocate and liaison for the couple. A venue coordinator works for the venue, not for the couple, necessarily. A designer primarily works on the way a wedding looks and feels, not the details and logistics of the day. Most planners typically offer 3 basic services: Month Of Planning, Partial Planning, Full Planning. Compare prices, but also compare exactly what each planner offers within these categories. Be weary and get educated about ‘Day Of Wedding Coordination' – Don't hire someone that says they will just work 8 hours on the wedding day and it will all be fine...it won't be. We think that Month of Coordination is an incredible value and we highly recommend hiring a planner for this service. Links We Referenced Certification course that Michelle and Christy both took to become certified wedding consultants: https://www.ce.csueastbay.edu/ce/programs/wedding-planner/ Episode Quotes “CWC – Certified Wedding Consultant, that is my official title. General lingo on the street is ‘wedding planner'.” “As consultants, you do some teaching, I do some speaking, we're getting paid to do things other than actual wedding planning, which is our expertise, more of a consultant. Also, working with a couple for only a couple of hours, to answer questions, and that feels more like consulting than planning.” – Christy and Michelle, discussing their title. Confused yet? “I am of the opinion that there is no such thing as a true ‘Day of Planner' – no matter what they call themselves, it's not possible to do a good job by just showing up on the day of the wedding and getting a bit of info from the bride and just planning the wedding from that point. That's just a recipe for disaster.” –Christy, on a ‘day of wedding planning' “About a month before – Boom! There's all these details! And at that point, you don't want your phone ringing off the hook with vendors asking questions, or your email inundated with all these questions about details while you are trying to get things done in your real life – like work!” - Michelle, on what a great Month-of wedding planner will help you with Get In Touch The Big Wedding Planning Podcast is… Hosted and produced by Michelle Martinez  Music by Steph Altman of Mophonics  On Instagram @thebigweddingplanningpodcast and be sure to use #planthatwedding when posting, so you can get our attention!
