In this special Christmas episode of Beyond Sunday, Josh Hensley and Michael Shearon are joined by their wives, Heather Hensley and Laina Shearon, for a joyful, honest, and laughter-filled conversation reflecting on Christmas, family, and ministry. From hilarious childhood gift stories and nostalgic candlelight memories to matching pajamas and favorite traditions, this episode feels like sitting in the living room with close friends—warm, personal, and full of heart. As the conversation deepens, the group reflects on the unique weight and beauty of Christmas in ministry, the behind-the-scenes partnership of spouses, and the gratitude that comes from looking back on God's faithfulness through the year. Thoughtful reflections on shepherds, wise men, and the meaning behind their gifts gently center the conversation on Jesus—the greatest gift of all—and invite listeners to slow down, cherish the people in the room, and step into Christmas with renewed wonder and joy.
The word “love” is one of the sloppiest words in our language, as it primarily refers to a feeling that happens to a person. But in the New Testament, “love,” or “agape,” refers to a way of treating people that was defined by Jesus himself. It means to seek the well-being of others regardless of their response. The Messiah's coming is ultimately an act of love—God with us, God for us- regardless of how we receive Him.The hymn envisions unity, redemption, and divine mercy. Love is not abstract here; it's incarnate in the coming of Christ. We live now in the reality of His love and long for the day when that love will fully reign—when all creation is reconciled in Christ. We can rejoice, not because all is fulfilled yet, but because fulfillment is coming. This dynamic tension of the now and not yet is the essence of Advent… and the reality of being a Jesus-shaped church. Will we embrace the love being offered this Christmas season?

This week on Beyond Sunday, Josh Hensley is joined around the table by Hannah Buttram, Evan Ryan, and Justin Eshenbaugh for a Christmas-flavored conversation that starts lighthearted and lands deep. The episode opens with a hilarious Gen-Z-inspired game, “Christmas Songs According to the Group Chat,” setting the tone with laughter, playful competition, and just enough chaos to feel like family around the table. But beneath the humor is a shared love for Christmas songs—and how those songs can move from nostalgia to meaningful worship when their message is truly heard The conversation then shifts into the heart of Advent as Evan reflects on his sermon focused on joy—not happiness tied to circumstances, but lasting joy rooted in Jesus. Together, the group explores how joy can coexist with grief, hardship, and weariness, drawing from Scripture, global mission experiences, and real life. They remind listeners that the joy of the Lord is our strength, that obedience and abiding in Christ produce joy, and that even in a busy, comfort-driven culture, true joy is still found by slowing down and trusting God's promises. The episode closes with excitement for the upcoming New Work Cadiz Campus launch, inviting listeners to be part of what God is doing next.
God's people are called to a unique type of joy. It's more than a happy mood. It's a choice to trust that God will fulfill his promises, and it's a joy that is long-lasting and life-giving.Every verse of the hymn ends with a command to rejoice—even in exile, even in waiting. This is the paradox of Advent joy: we rejoice not because everything is right, but because the One who will make it right is both on His way and here now. This joy is deeper than happiness—it's the defiant joy of faith that knows the story isn't over.We can rejoice, not because all is fulfilled yet, but because fulfillment is coming. This dynamic tension of the now and not yet is the essence of Advent… and the reality of being a Jesus-shaped church. Will we embrace the joy being offered this Christmas season?cccog.com/beyond-sunday

Peace is a very common word in English, and it means different things to different people. It's also a very important word in the Bible that refers not only to the absence of conflict but also to the presence of something else. The hymn longs for peace—shalom—the restoration of all things. In a world full of darkness, conflict, and sorrow, the prayer is that Christ, the Prince of Peace, would come and break through the gloom. Though we still wait for the full realization of peace, we experience glimpses of it now through Christ's presence, the peace that “passes all understanding.”We can rejoice, not because all is fulfilled yet, but because fulfillment is coming. This dynamic tension of the now and not yet is the essence of Advent… and the reality of being a Jesus-shaped church. This episode of Beyond Sunday centers on the theme of peace in the middle of chaos, as Michael Shearon and Josh Hensley are joined by counselors Adam and Kathy Glover for a thoughtful Advent conversation. Grounded in Philippians 4, the group reflects on how peace is formed through praise and prayer, protected by God's promise, and ultimately ruled by Jesus—the Prince of Peace. Along the way, the conversation weaves together Scripture, lived experience, and honest reflection on how difficult peace can feel during the holiday season. The discussion also dives into practical realities many families face—setting healthy boundaries, distinguishing concern from anxiety, and navigating relationships without carrying unnecessary emotional weight. Adam and Kathy offer wisdom on peacemaking versus peacekeeping, while the group reminds listeners that genuine peace doesn't come from controlling circumstances, but from trusting Christ and focusing our minds on what is true. The episode closes with encouragement for the Cadiz Campus launch on December 21 and an invitation for listeners to submit questions for an upcoming New Year's Q&A episode. This week on Beyond Sunday, Evan, Paxton, Michael, and Josh continue into our November series, The First Thanksgiving Feast. The table is the focus again this week: the table of manna in the wilderness and the table of the Lord's Supper today. The team talks about how God's provision isn't always flashy, but it is faithful. Just like Israel learned to trust daily manna, we're learning to receive the Lord's presence and grace as the true Bread of Life who sustains us. The group has some light-hearted fun imagining what food each of them could eat every day for forty years—though thankfully, God knows better than we do about what we need. The conversation moves deeper as they reflect on Jesus giving thanks even for what would break Him. Gratitude, even in struggle, becomes a way that God forms us.
