In Koelen bloede. Of koop alvast mijn nieuwe boek! Een besneeuwd kasteel, een vervloekte diamant, een gemaskerd bal, een onverklaarbare moord... Kom kerst vieren in Kasteel De Haar.

Healthy Mind, Healthy Life
Is Leadership Really Lonely—or Did We Build the Wall Ourselves? with Dusty Holcomb

Healthy Mind, Healthy Life

On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik goes straight at a common executive myth: “lonely at the top.” Former CEO, five-time Ironman, and Arcqus Group founder Dusty Holcomb breaks down how isolation is often a self-selected operating system—rooted in fear and perfectionism—and how to replace it with connection discipline. We unpack identity vs. title, minimum viable discipline, keystone reflections, and why leaders should be obsessed with asking better questions, not having all the answers.   About the Guest: Dusty Holcomb is an operator-turned-coach, former CEO, five-time Ironman, and founder of The Arcqus Group. He hosts the podcast Leadership Unlocked and has kept a 28-year streak of daily leadership reflections focused on character, clarity, and service.   Key Takeaways: Isolation is often a self-selected stance driven by fear of being “the one with all the answers”; leadership is about ensuring the right questions are asked and answered. Adopt a beginner's mind: “Help me understand what I might be missing” invites collaboration without weaponizing questions. Shift from being interesting to being interested; curiosity is the fastest on-ramp to trust and connection. Identity beats perfection: define your minimum viable discipline (e.g., 100 pushups/100 situps, a short walk) so the habit survives travel, fatigue, and chaos. Pre-decide for success: make the important thing easy (systems and prep the night before) and give yourself grace when you miss—then immediately resume. Titles are temporary; you're a steward of a role. Prioritize permanent roles (parent/partner/human) so work doesn't swallow your life. Keystone moments come from reflection; journaling codifies lessons you've “paid tuition” for and lets others benefit. Build an external mentorship/counsel loop; leadership doesn't have to be lonely when you design for connection. Tactical this week: schedule one 15-minute listening block with a teammate; prune one commitment and define the replacement behavior. North-star check: Who am I becoming—and would I follow that person?   How to Connect with the Guest   LinkedIn: Dusty Holcomb Website/Newsletter: https://www.arcqusgroup.com/ Podcast: Leadership Unlocked   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life? As of 2025, approximately 83% of American employees believethey would trust their company more if their direct supervisor included them inimportant decisions. Furthermore, employees who feel their voices are heard are4.6 times more likely to feel empowered to deliver their best work. Despitethis, overall employee engagement remains low, highlighting a disconnectbetween what employers claim to value and employees' perceptions, according toPricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). "You can't scale chaos; start with clarity." Thisstatement by Dusty Holcomb, CEO and founder of Arcqus Group, emphasizes theneed for organizational clarity. If your team isn't executing as required, theproblem likely lies not in effort but in friction. Dusty Holcomb is a former CEO, a five-time Ironman, and anentrepreneur dedicated to helping leaders exchange burnout for clarity andchaos for alignment. However, his identity is not defined by titles alone;rather, it is shaped by a 28-year daily practice of sharing leadership quotes,a firm belief in the importance of self-leadership, and a mission to helpleaders create lives that embody their values, not just build companies. As the founder of The Arcqus Group and host of the"Leadership Unlocked" podcast, Dusty explores the critical momentsthat influence how we lead and live. His approach is personal rather thanperformative. He emphasizes the need to distill leadership down to its essenceby asking: Who are you becoming? Why does your work matter? And how do you leadin a way that multiplies rather than depletes your impact? Through "Leadership Unlocked," his podcast, andevery conversation he engages in, Dusty brings this perspective. WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS EPISODE ABOUT EFFECTIVE LAW FIRM LEADERSHIP When people don't understand why their work matters or how it connects to where the firm is going, they show up differently. They do what's required but not much more. And that gap between doing the minimum and bringing your best? That's discretionary effort. Law firm leaders deal with this all the time. You've got talented people who care about their work, but they're buried under billable hours and competing priorities. It's difficult to step back and create the clarity that actually helps people engage. In this episode of The Lawyer's Edge, Elise talks with executive coach Dusty Holcomb about practical ways to lead more intentionally. Dusty shares five questions that help leaders connect their teams to purpose and vision and explains why you have to repeat key messages far more often than feels comfortable. They also dig into how to shift from constant reaction mode to intentional leadership and what it really takes to lead yourself before you can effectively lead others. 4:52 — Why leadership is influence, not authority, and why it starts with leading yourself first 8:07 — The five questions that help leaders bring purpose and clarity to their teams 11:36 — How simplifying expectations keeps people focused and accountable 15:10 — The role of consistency and repetition in creating alignment and culture 19:24 — Shifting from reactivity to intentional leadership and controlling your calendar before it controls you 23:18 — How reflection and planning build self-awareness and better decision-making 27:42 — When to delegate, what to let go of, and how trust frees leaders to lead 31:56 — Why discretionary effort is the measure of a healthy, engaged team 35:27 — What lawyers can learn from leadership practices outside the legal profession MENTIONED IN CONNECTING THE DOTS: HOW TO EFFECTIVELY LEAD YOURSELF AND OTHERS The Arcqus Group Dusty Holcomb on LinkedIn 10x Is Easier Than 2x by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Ben Hardy Chick-fil-A's "My Pleasure" Example Get connected with the coaching team: hello@thelawyersedge.com The Lawyer's Edge SPONSOR FOR THIS EPISODE Today's episode is brought to you by the Ignite Women's Business Development Accelerator, a 9-month business development program created BY women lawyers for women lawyers. Dusty Holcomb's story begins on a farm, where the simple truth that “cows need milking 365 days a year” instilled an unshakable work ethic. Those early lessons in responsibility and persistence carried into his entrepreneurial ventures as a child—creating a town newspaper at eight and running a landscaping business by eleven. These formative experiences shaped a lifelong commitment to connecting hard work with meaningful purpose. After spending 21 years at AAA and nearly three decades in corporate leadership, Dusty developed a leadership philosophy centered on “connecting the dots” between what people do and why it matters. He emphasizes that clarity comes first, followed by alignment, and only then can execution succeed. This clarity-first approach helps leaders address common pain points such as feeling isolated, becoming bottlenecks in decision-making, or struggling with gaps between vision and reality.Throughout his journey, forum groups provided Dusty with critical support during times of challenge and transition. These peer groups not only offered perspective but also helped him refine his own path as a leader. He also draws on timeless insights like Viktor Frankl's reminder that, regardless of circumstances, leaders can always choose their response.Today, through The Arcus Group, Dusty is focused on multiplying leadership impact at scale, aiming to empower 100 million leaders around the world. By equipping leaders with the tools to connect purpose, clarity, and execution, he is helping reshape how organizations inspire and engage their teams. His journey serves as both a reminder and a roadmap: leadership rooted in values can transform not only organizations but the lives of the people within them. Please visit www.internationalfacilitatorsorganization.com to learn more about Mo Fathelbab and International Facilitators Organization (IFO), a leading provider of facilitators and related group facilitation services, providing training, certification, marketing services, education, and community for peer group facilitators at all stages of their career.

Their new album, Reno, out September 12, captures something rare: the kind of musical conversation that happens when two artists know each other's musical language inside and out. Robin's songs draw from American folk traditions while her piano work moves into territories that feel both classical and completely free. Peggy brings a cello sound that's equally at home with composed melodies and total improvisation.Their collaboration encompasses everything from Robin's early song cycles about utopian communities in the Pacific Northwest to pieces that came from her work on the Donner Party saga. In this clip from the Tuesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey welcomes Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to analyze the defense's depth at linebacker and ongoing communication issues. How much has the team's depth at linebacker grown in the offseason? How much will projected starters Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson play? And how often might they be rested in favor of reserves like Cole Holcomb, who's been shining in Steelers training camp and the NFL preseason? And where will rookie Jack Sawyer find his niche in the outside linebacker group behind names like T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig? The guys tackle those questions, then explain whether they're concerned about communication issues that plagued the defense down the stretch. Especially because veterans like Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay Jr. have not gotten the chance to mesh with new teammates like DeShon Elliott, Joey Porter Jr. and Juan Thornhill much in the preseason.

The conversation also highlights the limitations of current guidelines in TBI treatment and the need for practical considerations in administering plasma. Dr. Holcomb advocates for a shift in practice towards using plasma early in the treatment process to improve patient outcomes.TakeawaysPlasma is used as a drug to prevent edema in TBI patients. The glycocalyx plays a crucial role in brain injury management.Preventing increased ICP is more effective than treating it.Current guidelines often lag behind clinical practice.Understanding the physiology behind treatments is essential for medics.Monitoring blood pressure is critical in TBI management.Plasma can repair the blood-brain barrier and reduce edema.Practical considerations are necessary for administering plasma in the field. The outcomes of TBI treatment should focus on functional recovery.Future directions in TBI management include more research on plasma use.Chapters00:00 Introduction to TBI Management and Plasma Use03:04 Understanding Plasma as a Drug for TBI05:39 The Role of Glycocalyx in Brain Injury08:47 Preventing Edema and Managing ICP11:31 Guidelines and Their Limitations in TBI Treatment14:33 Practical Considerations for Administering Plasma17:29 The Importance of Patient Monitoring and Judgment20:44 Outcomes and Future Directions in TBI ManagementFor more content, go to www.prolongedfieldcare.orgConsider supporting us: patreon.com/ProlongedFieldCareCollective or www.lobocoffeeco.com/product-page/prolonged-field-care

In this chilling episode of Stuttering in Silence, Matt and Gavin unravel one of America's most haunting true crime cases—the brutal 1959 slaying of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas. What started as a supposed robbery turned into a senseless and calculated murder that shook the nation. We explore the twisted minds of Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, the flawed plan that led to tragedy, and how Truman Capote's In Cold Blood forever changed the way we tell true crime stories. This isn't just a murder story—it's the tale of how innocence was stolen from a small town overnight.

In this episode of The Guilty Files: True Crime Uncovered, Brian takes us back to the heartland of America—Holcomb, Kansas—where one of the most chilling and senseless mass murders in U.S. history occurred. On the night of November 15, 1959, four members of the Clutter family were brutally murdered in their own home, sending shockwaves through a tight-knit farming community and eventually capturing the nation's attention.Brian lays out the cold, hard facts of the case—from the meticulous planning by ex-convicts Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, to the terrifying final hours of Herbert, Bonnie, Nancy, and Kenyon Clutter. We follow the timeline of events that led up to the murders, the aftermath that devastated the town, and the cross-country manhunt that brought the killers to justice. You'll hear about the calculated cruelty behind the crime, the seemingly motiveless brutality, and the forensic and investigative work that cracked the case wide open.Brian also touches on how this horrific story caught the eye of author Truman Capote, who would later immortalize it in his genre-defining nonfiction novel In Cold Blood. This episode is a sobering look at the violence that can lurk behind a calm exterior—and a stark reminder that no place, no matter how peaceful, is ever truly safe from evil.Content Warning: This episode contains detailed descriptions of a home invasion and the murder of multiple family members, including a minor.

What made them tick? How did childhood trauma, cycles of poverty, and a hunger for significance culminate in the cold-blooded execution of a family they'd never met?But the story doesn't end there. Dani also explores the impact of Truman Capote's In Cold Blood—how it blurred the lines between journalism and narrative, empathy and exploitation. Was Capote shining a light on the forgotten corners of the justice system, or was he romanticizing killers for the sake of literary fame?Through speculative storytelling, psychological analysis, and a few chilling “what ifs,” Dani rewires this case with fresh questions:What if someone had intervened in Perry's youth? What if the Clutters had never opened their door that night? What if In Cold Blood had never been written? This episode reimagines the Clutter murders not just as a crime—but as a mirror reflecting the fragility of safety, the failings of society, and the cost of trying to humanize the inhumane.Content Warning: Contains discussion of murder, trauma, and speculative depictions of violence.
