This episode of Across The Margin : The Podcast features an interview with Brian Anderson, a Webby Award-winning senior features editor, writer, and producer at VICE. Brian was a science editor at The Atlantic, where he was part of the Pulitzer Prize-winning team for early pandemic coverage, and was later an editor at Vox. He lives in Chicago with his partner (and a piece of the Wall of Sound). Loud and Clear: The Grateful Dead Wall of Sound and the Quest for Audio Perfection is his first book, and the focus of this episode. Loud and Clear is the first book to tell the full story of the Grateful Dead's “Wall of Sound,” an unprecedented and since unparalleled speaker system that was as tall as a school bus is long and more than a hundred feet wide. The band's quest for a roaring yet crystal clear sound began after their formation in 1965, colliding with the ‘60s progressive social climate. Over the next few years, the Dead's growing crew of sound-obsessed techies and eccentric roadies took their speaker system to new technological heights. But as the Dead's relentless, drug-fueled touring schedule met this increasingly burdensome yet sonically perfect machine, in 1974, the Wall brought the band to its knees. The two years of “Wall shows” are legend among Deadheads, and Loud and Clear is the compelling character-driven tale about human ambition, achievement, and the limits of both on a larger-than-life scale. Brian Anderson interviewed hundreds of people associated with the band and the construction of the Wall itself, including band members, roadies, tech wizards, fans and many more. Loud and Clear is the fascinating inside story of one of the most legendary rock bands of all time. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Brian Anderson for Living Proof Radio, full episode on the Living Proof Patreon.http://patreon.com/livingproofnewyorkBrian Anderson is an iconic professional skateboarder celebrated for his lasting influence on street skating. He rose to prominence in the mid-1990s with Toy Machine, gaining early notoriety around the era of Welcome to Hell, turned pro in 1998, and was named Thrasher's Skater of the Year in 1999 after joining Girl Skateboards. That same year he won the World Cup of Skateboarding in Germany. Beyond video parts and contest results, Anderson has left a mark as a designer and brand builder. He launched his own board brand, 3D Skateboards, in 2013, released his Nike SB signature “Project BA” shoe, and later joined Anti-Hero Skateboards after winding down 3D. His current sponsor roster includes Anti-Hero, Nike SB, Spitfire, Ace, Bones Swiss, and Jessup. In 2016, Anderson publicly came out as gay in a widely viewed Vice Sports documentary—an important moment for LGBTQ visibility in skateboarding—and subsequently explored personal themes through art and zines such as Cave Homo.
In 2023, Brian Anderson was exonerated -- 50 years after he was convicted of a murder he did not commit. Rosanna sits down for the first of this season's conversations with Brian and others involved in his case. We hear how the story of this miscarriage of justice is inspiring advocates to challenge and change a flawed legal system.

Kyle Tucker was in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 15, playing in an unforgettable MLB All-Star Game. Just over a month later, Tucker finds himself headed to the bench amidst a cacophony of boos. The All-Star has not been putting up All-Star type numbers. He has been hitting a dismal .160 average in August and has not hit a home run since July 19. Tucker hopes to hit a reset and figure a way out of the slump from the dugout as the Cubs, who currently lead the NL Wild Card race, look to make a push for the postseason. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss the lead-up to this benching and how Tucker and the Cubs can figure out a way forward. “I've never seen anything like this from a Brewers team” is a strong statement, especially coming from Milwaukee Brewers and Turner Sports broadcaster, Brian Anderson. Anderson joins the show and chats with Jake and Jordan about the magical season the Brewers are having thus far. What is it about this team that makes them different from everyone else? Anderson talks about what he is seeing out of Brewers' manager Pat Murphy and how he has seen him change over time.
