Seamless Slides and Stellar Delivery. Unlocking AI's Potential in Presentations In Japan Something I had never heard of before called “Steampunk” popped up in my TikTok feed. Now I write a daily blog published on YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook and X, called “Fare Bella Figura: Make a Good Impression, Be A Sharp Dressed Man” on the subject of classic men's wear for business. Obviously, I am interested in how we men choose to master and control our first impressions in public.  Everyone is judging us based on how we appoint ourselves and that is before we have any chance to utter even one word.  If that is the case, and it is, why not make an effort to control that first vital impression?  Anyway, that is another podcast subject, so back to today's theme.  These Steampunk videos were AI created and featured seriously “killer handsome” men wearing very, very cool Victorian era clothing. The imagery was amazing, fantastical, and addictive.  Sadly, probably no one looked anything near that good in foggy Victorian London and few guys today could even come close to these AI images.  It is all fake, and this is an important point to keep in mind when we are dealing with AI. This got me thinking about AI and fakery in the field of business presentations. Where is the line to discriminate between fakery and authenticity? Let's look at some of the AI tools and see where they are leading us. Canva, Beautiful.ai, Visme etc., use AI to arrange our basic slides into very sophisticated output.  If we are not sure what style of visual presentation will best suit the content, then we can access help from Microsoft Designer and Google Slides AI.  If we have numbers to represent on screen, then Infogram and Datawrapper can help. The AI will suggest the best chart type based on the data. I don't know that we need that much help though: for data over time use line graphs, for short-term comparisons use bar charts, and use pie charts for gauging proportional differences.  If we are thinking about how to put the talk together, then ChatGPT, Claude and Jasper AI can craft a script as a base for us to work with.  If we want a formal tone, we can command it or go for a conversational tone, and the AI will respond accordingly.  If like me, you are not that red hot on grammar and punctuation, then Grammerly or ProWritingAid can make suggestions.  They don't always get it right, so we have to maintain a certain amount of knowledge to intervene when needed. It is handy though to be reminded that you have started the last three sentences with the same word, so that we can introduce more variety into our prose. I haven't tried them myself yet, but I am told that Orai and Speeko will analyse my delivery in real time.  I can get feedback on pacing, tone, filler words, modulation and pronunciation.  I had to give a major keynote recently to an elite audience and if I had been more organised, I could have tried them out. I will use them the next time during my rehearsals.  I wonder if they give us Good/Better feedback, rather than confidence sapping critique?  By the way, a word to the wise, if you ever ask anyone to listen to your practice sessions, instruct them to give you only Good/Better feedback.  Otherwise, their first inclination will usually be to criticise what you are doing and demotivate you. I have seen some speakers using Mentimeter and Slido, which are AI driven to facilitate real time audience interaction.  We can run instant polls, pose questions, and get feedback during our presentation.  We can do the same things analog too, but it looks cool to use these tools. I have seen simple bats with “Yes” on one side and “No” on the other used to gauge audience agreement with whatever the speaker is proposing and it works well. We can simply ask people to raise their hands in response to their agreement with the question or not and no tech involved. Personally I go for simplicity when presenting. I do recommend keeping a hawk-eyed accounting of the faces of the people in the audience. If you think that is too old school, you can try Beyond Verbal and Emotional AI.  These tools will interpret audience facial reactions and voice tones to help you understand the engagement levels of the audience. All great stuff but I find watching their faces carefully does the same thing, and it is real time. There is no doubt AI is here to stay and capacity will only broaden and improve.  We have to keep in mind, though, that these are just tools and not a substitute for our role as the speaker.  I actually don't want my AI enhanced slide deck to be so spectacular that the audience stops watching me and becomes totally engrossed with what is on screen.  We, the speaker, have to be the center of attention and the tools are at our command, rather than commanding us. That is why I don't like using videos.  If they are to be used keep let's them super short. Like those handsome dudes in the Steampunk videos, the presentation is superb, but the AI is fake and we can never match what is being presented.  We can dress ourselves in the same Victorian way, using fine fabrics, but we will never be that handsome and cool looking. We need to keep AI in perspective too, not get carried away with the tool set and forgetting about the human dimension aspect of the delivery. We, the presenters, must always be the main game, the core talent and the real focus for our audience. The tech has to be used in moderation and the speaker must be soley placed in the spotlight. Don't let the AI become the star like in those Steampunk videos I mentioned.  We reserve that position for ourselves, always, everywhere and we allow no AI substitutes for us.

Cosmic synchronicities aligned and inspired this very important live event (recorded 10/10/2020 & available on YouTube https://youtu.be/25TpZq4-4qQ) where authors Gayle Barkley Lee, Lyrica Mia Marquez, Alex Marcoux, and Susan & Sammie Moon Oros gathered to discuss and answer questions about "Who are the Beyond Verbal Autistics?" Don't you love synchronicities? Recently, Susan participated in a virtual summit and book launch for the Evolutionary Healer, which featured a chapter about my soul collaboration with Sammie and the collective consciousness group, the Autists, or Autistic Avatars, or Non-Verbal Autistics (NVA's, as Gayle and Lyrica call them). It just so happened that a new friend, Alex Marcoux, also published a book around the same time, The Unsuspected Heroes: A Journey to the New Earth. Her book was inspired by many Autistic Avatars but especially by Gayle and Lyrica. Gayle and Lyrica published their book in 2011, AWEtizm: A Hidden Key to Our Spiritual Magnificence. Gayle is mom to a brilliant Autistic Avatar, Lyrica, and Lyrica co-wrote the book with her mom. Lyrica communicates with her mom telepathically and also using a letter board. The insights from Lyrica is beyond words and helped shape my consciousness awakening just by reading their book. Each of our individual works have a common mission and theme; the Autists are here to play a pivotal role in humanity's ascension and evolution. Consequently, we decided to join together and offer a live discussion and Q&A for all of you. We are watching the breakdown of 3D reality but truly it is a breakdown so that something new, the 5D higher vibrational new earth, can truly be planted upon this earth. And these Autists or NVA's play a big role. Whether you're a parent, a relative, a caregiver, teacher, therapist, alternative healing therapist, paraprofessional, medical personnel, or awakening person on the planet to this ascension pathway, this conversation and the high vibrational consciousness of it, will inspire you to take heart and know that something magnificently beautiful is taking place. In this episode, Teri welcomes Dr. Daniella Perry, the VP of Health Research at Beyond Verbal Communication, a company that is using variables and parameters in a person’s voice to determine their emotional state as well as to identify risks of having physical diseases like coronary artery disease and lung disease.Beyond Verbal has developed a specialized approach by evaluating human voice. They decode human vocal intonations into their underlying emotions in real time thereby enabling voice enabled devices or apps to understand people’s emotions. The extraction, decoding and measurement of emotions introduces a whole new dimension of emotional understanding, which they call voice-driven Emotions Analytics. It has the potential to transform the way we understand ourselves, our emotional well-being, our interactions with machines, and most importantly, the way we communicate with each other.Key Points from Dr. Daniella Perry of Beyond VerbalA 6 year old startup based in Tel Aviv, Israel, Beyond Verbal has been working on emotion detection through voice and it’s intersecting with health. They focus on voice analytics where the tone of voice, rather than what is being said, is analyzed to determine the emotional state and health-related issues of the speaker.Vocal bio markersThese are the insights that are derived from analyzing a voice. They are specific vocal features that correlate to the condition of the speaker both emotionally and health wise. The technology is easy to grasp and non-invasive. They have been using machine learning and are currently also using deep learning algorithms to explore the connections between voice and the insights. The voice is collected using any device that can record a voice, they extract specific vocal features that can provide the targeted insights, then they translate those features into numbers, and translate those numbers into insights regarding the condition of the speaker.Beyond Verbal has been conducting a study in partnership with the cardiology department at Mayo Clinic, where they are studying the relation between voice and coronary artery disease (CAD). A peer review paper has been published with the results with the overall conclusion being that there are specific vocal features that can help determine whether a person has CAD.They do not believe people will be diagnosed using voice only. It’s more of a decision support tool for physicians. The increased stress in a patient with CAD is what is captured in their voice. The inflammation caused by CAD also affects the vocal cords. There are other hypothesis that are yet to be proven.Through a unique call center for patients with chronic diseases, Beyond Verbal is conducting a huge data study which has enabled them to gain access to a database with full electronic medical records for more than 150,000 patients. Using both machine learning and deep learning algorithms, they are attempting to discover the correlations between voice and medical record findings. They are focusing mainly on the cardiovascular space, working on recordings of heart failure patients and patients with congestive heart failure. They have published results showing they can predict long term survival from 2 seconds of voice. They are also concentrating on lung diseases. The ParametersThey use measurements of frequency, intensity and complicated combinations of derivatives that can be measured from different segments of a voice. They have an emotions analytics app called “Moodies” and an API that people can use to analyze a voice. On the emotions side, the output consists of several scales and specific emotions like confidence, for example. The emotional scales have an up to 80% accuracy.Use casesThe technology will be incorporated into voice assistants and health-related call centers.People will be referred for clinical procedures after they are red flagged by this technology. They do not see it becoming a diagnostic tool. They are not yet developing skills for Alexa or Google Assistant. They are researching prototypes for that.Links and Resources in this EpisodeBeyond Verbal WebsiteDr. Teri Fisher on TwitterDr. Teri Fisher on LinkedInPlease leave a review on iTunes See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The guest on this weeks podcast is Dr. Levanon, Chief Science Officer at Beyond Verbal, and we discuss the product innovation that´s going on in the area of voice recognition. Dr. Levanon has multiple degrees in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics and Operations Research from the Hebrew University and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. This multi-disciplinary background is the fuel behind various breakthroughs in the field of Emotions Analytics. At Beyond Verbal he’s responsible for the core research team and its scientific discoveries. In that role they developed technology that can not only understand the clicks, typed texts, speech or touch, but also how they feel and what they mean.I got triggered by the phrase on their website “it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it”, hence I invited Dr. Levanon to my podcast. I really wanted to know how this technology can intelligently augment people in various industries to deliver remarkable impact. As such we discuss how voice analysis can be used to impact one’s health and wellbeing, but also how the same technology can for example help marketers improve the relationship with customers by obtaining a deeper understanding what they really mean. Here are some of his quotes:The idea is the voice is telling us a lot about our self.We have recognized until now many mental problems and diseases through the voice. Now I understand that through the voice I can recognize your wellbeing. Our wellbeing can be recognized through the health status, but also through the emotional status. Therefore, the idea was, "How shall we improve your wellbeing, to understanding both sides of you?"it's not only that, how I can improve the relationship between a company and its clients, or its employees,We can look at every inch of the organization as a group of people in what gets the results, the achievements, is the spirit, the group spirit. When somebody is fighting the other, the results will be very problematic.By listening to this interview, you will learn three things:How to add new levels of differentiation to your company/solution: emotions drive everything we do, yet voice-driven emotions analytics remains the most important, unexplored interface today. How, by applying voice analytics, you could change the performance of any role. Why analyzing voice could have a large impact on society (and thus your customers) because of its ability to solve the problem of skills shortage. There is a perfect tone of voice according to Dan Emodi. And he believes his technology can pinpoint it for you.  This is the second of two episodes about technology that dissects our voices, pulls them apart, and analyzes them digitally to understand our emotions. Hear how Emodi's company, called Beyond Verbal, is applying 20 years of "emotion analytics" to help us understand ourselves better. These products claim to be able to determine true emotions just from listening to you speak for 20 seconds. It could also determine if a salesperson is using the "perfect sales intonation" or if a given customer calling up is 'exasperated and furious' or 'exasperated and ready to listen'. Market research and call centers may be the early testing ground of emotion detection software, but the applications could end up working as a wellness tool or even a dating aide (humorously demonstrated in this video).    Listen to part 1 on tech and the human voice: mental health and medical research.  If you like these stories, please subscribe to New Tech City on iTunes or RSS.
