Met een volledige overname van alle Belgische kerncentrales wil de Arizonacoalitie onder leiding van premier Bart De Wever de energiebevoorrading verzekeren en – vooral voor de industrie – de prijzen drukken. Maar is het ook een goed idee? ­ “Door de kerncentrales te nationaliseren, komen de lusten, lasten en risico's volledig bij de belastingbetaler te liggen”, zo viel te lezen in De Standaard. De regering had toen net een intentieverklaring ondertekend met Engie, om het “nucleaire park” volledig over te nemen tegen oktober. Het hardste applaus voor die beslissing kwam van de banken van de PVDA, wat opmerkelijk is voor een regering die gedragen wordt door de N-VA en de MR. ­ Wanneer zal de regering geslaagd zijn in haar nucleaire ambities? “Als Doel 4 en Tihange 3 operationeel blijven tot 2045 én nog minst één extra reactor wordt gereactiveerd”, aldus economieredacteur Wim Winckelmans. “Dat zou dan hoogstwaarschijnlijk Tihange 1 zijn.” Alleen: het kan tot 1 miljard euro kosten om die kernreactor te moderniseren. ­ Volgens Simon Andries van de Wetstraatredactie is de beslissing om de kerncentrales te nationaliseren vooral een grote politieke gok. Frank Roosen is een ervaren Nederlands acupuncturist, voormalig fysiotherapeut en docent binnen het veld van de Traditionele Chinese Geneeskunde (TCG). Met een carrière die ruim vier decennia omspant, behoort hij tot een generatie therapeuten die een brug slaan tussen reguliere gezondheidszorg en oosterse geneeswijzen. Opleiding en vroege carrière Frank Roosen studeerde in 1981 af als fysiotherapeut in Nijmegen. Direct na zijn opleiding deed hij brede internationale ervaring op. Hij werkte onder meer in een reumakliniek in Zwitserland en later in Australië, waar hij actief was in een ziekenhuis, revalidatiecentrum en sportkliniek. Deze internationale periode vormde een belangrijke voedingsbodem voor zijn latere visie. Hij kwam in aanraking met verschillende medische systemen en culturele benaderingen van gezondheid, wat zijn interesse in holistische geneeskunde sterk aanwakkerde. Overgang naar acupunctuur en TCM Geïnspireerd door de integrale benadering van lichaam en geest binnen de Traditionele Chinese Geneeskunde, begon Frank Roosen eind jaren '80 aan een vierjarige opleiding acupunctuur, die hij in 1993 afrondde. Kort daarna vestigde hij zich als zelfstandig acupuncturist en opende in 1995 zijn praktijk in Tilburg. Hier combineert hij sindsdien zijn achtergrond in fysiotherapie met TCM, wat resulteert in een brede, integratieve behandelvisie. Professionele ervaring en specialisaties Frank Roosen beschikt over een uitzonderlijk brede klinische ervaring. Hij werkte in uiteenlopende settings, waaronder ziekenhuizen, revalidatiecentra, gezondheidscentra en particuliere praktijken, zowel in Nederland als internationaal. Binnen zijn praktijk past hij diverse TCM-technieken toe, waaronder: • Klassieke acupunctuur • Moxa en cupping • Ooracupunctuur • Chinese voedingsleer • Qi Gong en Tai Chi • Elektro-acupunctuur en dry needling Hij behandelt een breed spectrum aan klachten, van musculoskeletale problemen tot chronische aandoeningen zoals vermoeidheid, migraine en hormonale klachten. Visie en behandelbenadering Door de jaren heen heeft Frank Roosen zijn focus verschoven van symptoombestrijding naar bewustwording. Waar hij aanvankelijk gericht was op het verlichten van klachten, ligt zijn nadruk tegenwoordig op inzicht en preventie: • Begrijpen van de oorsprong van klachten • Verbinding tussen lichaam, geest en levenspatronen • Het activeren van zelfherstellend vermogen Zijn benadering is geworteld in de klassieke TCM-filosofie, waarin Qi, bewustzijn en energetische balans centraal staan. Hij integreert daarbij ook bredere concepten uit oosterse filosofie en soms zelfs moderne inzichten (zoals kwantumdenken) in zijn visie op gezondheid. Netwerken en beroepsverenigingen Frank Roosen is aangesloten bij relevante (inter)nationale organisaties binnen de acupunctuurwereld, waaronder de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Acupunctuur (NVA). Daarnaast was hij actief in de PR-commissie van de NVA, waarmee hij bijdroeg aan de positionering en ontwikkeling van het vakgebied. Op het moment is hij de patiënten voorlichter van de NVA.

Robert Jeffrey became fascinated with aviation at a young age after his father got a pilot's license. By 1965, he was flying the F-4 earlier than most of his peers. Late that year, he deployed to Thailand to fly missions over North Vietnam. On December 20, 1965, Jeffrey flew his first mission. 2. General Westmoreland implemented a "search and destroy" strategy using superior technology and "vertical envelopment" with helicopters. At the 1965 Battle of Ia Drang, the U.S. sought to trap NVA regiments with air mobility and crushing artillery. However, the NVA quickly adapted, learning to "cling" to American perimeters to neutralize U.S. fire support. Hal Moore's battalion faced a brutal realization: while the U.S. relied on technology, the NVA used human wave attacks and proximity to maximize American casualties. This early conflict proved that the enemy possessed a resilient tactical spirit that technology alone could not defeat. (2)1965

3. Westmoreland's three-phase plan focused on building massive infrastructure and then launching "crushing operations" to force North Vietnamese negotiations. However, the "search and destroy" metric of success—body counts—failed because 90% of operations made no enemy contact. The NVA often disappeared into trackless jungles to live to fight another day. Meanwhile, President Johnson respected Cambodian and Laotian neutrality despite NVA exploitation. He feared that widening the war into these vast sanctuaries would require massive troop increases the U.S. could not sustain, choosing instead to focus combat within South Vietnamese borders. (3)

4. The 1968 Tet Offensive, led by Le Duan, aimed to knock the U.S. out of the war through a massive, coordinated strike. While the NVA suffered extreme casualties, the offensive was a strategic information victory. Images of fighting at the U.S. Embassy shattered domestic support, leading Walter Cronkite to declare the war a stalemate. Simultaneously, the siege of Khe Sanh illustrated the war's futility. U.S. forces fought a bloody, months-long defense of the base, only to bulldoze and abandon it shortly after the North Vietnamese were driven off. (4)1972

6. In 1970, Nixon expanded the war into neutral Cambodia to cut the Ho Chi Minh Trail and destroy NVA supply dumps. While the operation captured significant munitions, the NVA simply retreated further west to wait for U.S. forces to leave. This widening of the war sparked massive domestic unrest, including the Kent State shootings. The incursion deepened social rifts between the anti-war movement and Nixon's "silent majority". Ultimately, the strategic gain was temporary; the NVA quickly replenished supplies through new routes in Laos, proving their superior "strategic patience". (6)1950 KOREA

7. "Vietnamization" aimed to prepare the South Vietnamese army (ARVN) to fight alone through material support and Nixon's increased bombing campaigns. However, the 1971 invasion of Laos (Lam Son 719) was a failure, demonstrating that ARVN lacked the leadership and spirit to execute complex air-mobile operations without U.S. ground troops. Nixon also pursued "detente" with China and Moscow, hoping to isolate Hanoi and secure a peace deal. Despite devastating "Linebacker" bombings of North Vietnamese cities, the NVA remained resilient, eventually accepting a peace deal only to await the final U.S. departure. (7)1967

8. Following the 1973 peace deal, North Vietnam realized the U.S. would not return, particularly after Nixon's resignation and resulting congressional funding cuts. The ARVN, though well-armed, became immobile due to shortages of fuel and ammunition. The 1975 NVA offensive triggered a rapid collapse as President Thieu's abrupt retreat from northern provinces turned into a rout. Wawro concludes that the war was a failure of political signaling and incrementalism. The U.S. spent years seeking a "lucky break" while ignoring the reality that North Vietnam was prepared to fight indefinitely. (8)1968

De politieke week overlopen we deze keer met Prof. Herman Matthijs. Die week begon met de naweeën van de DPG-peiling. Die zetten alle partijen van de coalitie, behalve de N-VA onder druk. Zet dat de N-VA in een zetel, of maakt dat akkoorden sluiten net moeilijker? Herman Matthijs ziet deze regering de rit niet uitdoen.  Want op de tafel van de regering liggen nog wat moeilijke dossiers. Zo zal de begroting blijven voor problemen zorgen. Die kunnen niet opgelost worden zonder een grondige hervorming, maar niemand durft. Er is een kans op staatshervorming als Brussel opnieuw geld nodig heeft. En Brussel heeft altijd geld nodig. Een andere mogelijkheid is dat er een samenwerkingsakkoord komt tussen de deelstaten. Maar kan de N-VA het maken om in Vlaanderen overschotten te boeken om de Belgische begroting te stutten?  Herman Matthijs stelt zich alvast kandidaat. Alvast de N-VA vindt van wel, en ook de Vlaamse meerderheid heeft plannen in die richting. Maar de hulpverlening is sceptisch, weet journaliste Veerle Beel. ­ Het is een ‘oud' debat dat recent weer oplaaide – moeten we kinderen “beschermen” door hen uit huis te halen als de moeder verslaafd is, en/of moet er eerder gekeken worden naar een strengere aanpak van de moeder? ­ Al in 2019 vormde zich een – toen nog merkwaardige – alliantie tussen de N-VA en Vooruit, destijds nog SP.A, bij monde van Valerie Van Peel en John Crombez. Zij stelden dat sommige vrouwen beter geen kinderen konden krijgen, of opvoeden, als ze niet in staat waren om het kind een veilige thuis te bieden. Anno 2026 herneemt de N-VA de strijd: via een wetsvoorstel in de Kamer wil de partij het mogelijk maken om vrouwen die zwanger en verslaafd zijn, gedwongen op te nemen en verplicht te laten afkicken. De Lijn moet 35,5 miljoen euro besparen. Het is lang niet de eerste besparing, en heel wat gemeenten protesteren tegen de plannen van minister van Mobiliteit Annick De Ridder (N-VA). Kunnen de vervoerregio's die plannen nog stoppen, of zullen er hoe dan ook passagiers in de kou blijven staan? “Je treft met deze plannen vooral mensen niet anders kunnen dan de bus nemen”, duidt ook Maxime Callaert (N-VA), schepen van Mobiliteit in Sint-Niklaas. “Een buslijn die bij ons in gevaar is, heeft ook zeker een belangrijke sociale functie.” Zo lijkt de reiziger inderdaad de dupe. De vervoersregio's verdedigen dat standpunt bijna unaniem. Pittig detail: vele N-VA-burgemeesters en -schepenen zijn ook gekant tegen het voorstel van partijgenote De Ridder. Zij zet echter door om de begroting te doen kloppen, zo bleek woensdag in het Vlaams Parlement. “Je zou kunnen denken dat de modal shift, het plan om voor de helft van de verplaatsingen duurzame vervoersmiddelen te gebruiken, zo naar de achtergrond te verdwijnt”, kadert collega Yumi Demeyere. “Maar dat ontkent het kabinet van De Ridder met klem, zij focussen op investeringen in de toekomst.” Samen met collega Aria Nik Mehr bespreekt ze de plannen. Na bijna twee jaar stilstand heeft het Brusselse gewest ein-de-lijk een nieuwe regering. Dinsdagmiddag startte, op initiatief van MR-voorzitter Georges-Louis Bouchez, een conclaaf. Donderdagavond was er witte rook: een deal tussen zeven partijen (zonder de N-VA), die onder meer mikt op een begrotingsevenwicht in 2029. ­ 613 dagen lang lukte het niet, nu wel. Het lijkt een donderslag bij heldere hemel, al zagen enkele visionairen in de Wetstraat al iets aankomen “want er moeten nu eenmaal wat excellenties gaan skiën in de Krokusvakantie”... Je kunt er cynisch over doen, maar feit is: er is een akkoord over een nieuwe Brusselse regering, mét een meerderheid in elke taalgroep. Moeten we juichen of is het daarvoor al lang te laat? Bij de zeven partijen (MR, PS, Les Engagés, Groen, Vooruit, Anders en CD&V) overheerst opluchting, en zelfs een zekere trots. ­ "Dit is een ambitieus akkoord, ondanks de moeilijke politieke context", zo zei MR-voorzitter Georges-Louis Bouchez donderdagavond op de trappen van de Universitaire Stichting, waar hij finaal erin slaagde om een Brusselse regering op te tuigen. Hij is ontegensprekelijk één van de “winnaars” van deze formatie. ­ Wetstraatjournalist Jeroen Struys merkt op dat deze coalitie eigenlijk al in de zomer van 2024 (!) in de steigers stond, of liever: had kunnen staan. Toen was het CD&V dat het zaakje niet zag zitten. Vandaag blijft CD&V achter zónder ministerpost, al kan de partij wel uitpakken met een paar trofeeën - net als de zes anderen. De vraag is natuurlijk wat de regering écht gedaan krijgt de komende drie jaar. Er ligt meer werk op de plank dan ooit, en er is minder geld dan ooit. Toch gaat de regering – die voorlopig nog de gerecycleerde bijnaam Vivaldi torst – resoluut voor een begroting in evenwicht in 2029. Das Historisch-Technische Museum ist kein Urlaubs-Wohlfühlort, aber es ist politisch und historisch wichtig. In der gegenwärtigen Zeit ohnehin! Das Historisch-Technische Museum Peenemünde Das in Peenemünde im Norden der Ostseeinsel Usedom verortete Historisch-Technische-Museum erinnert an und dokumentiert die einst hier angesiedelte Heeresversuchsanstalten während der Nazizeit. Es existierte von 1936 bis 1945. Technischer Leiter war der spätere NASA-„Star“ Wernher von Braun. Hier wurden mit der V1, der erste Marschflugkörper der Welt entwickelt und zur Serienreife geführt. Auch die erste funktionsfähige Großrakete wurde hier entwickelt. Die Rakete mit ursprünglichem Namen „Aggregat 4“ wurde in der Nazipropaganda zur sogenannten „Vergeltungswaffe V2“. Den Kuratoren geht es in erster Linie um die historisch-politischen Zusammenhänge der einstigen „Heeresversuchsanstalt“. Auch die Auslagerung der Waffenproduktion in einen Stollen in der Nähe von Nordhausen am Harz nach britischen Bombenangriffen im Jahr 1943 ist ein wichtiges Thema. Die menschlichen Bedingungen in den Stollen und dem dazugehörigen KZ sind Thema der Dauerausstellung. Prädikat: Historisch und Politisch Besonders wertvoll. Kommt mit in die Hörwelt des Reiseradio-Podcasts. Zusätzlich empfehle ich den Podcast über die Nebensaison auf Usedom. Das H-T-M in Peenemünde wurde 1991 eröffnet. Nach 1945 und bis zur Wende war das Gelände ein Militärstandort der NVA und für die Öffentlichkeit nicht zugänglich. Das Museum ist ganzjährig geöffnet. Vielleicht ist dieser Talk – auch zur aktuellen politischen Situation in Deutschland – hilfreich. Denn dieser Teil der deutschen Geschichte darf sich – auch in neuem Gewand – nicht wiederholen!Auch deshalb empfehle ich das Technisch–Historische Museum von Peenemünde. Historische Fakten, menschliches Schicksal & politische Konsequenz Wer die Ausstellung inhaliert hat, geht etwas stiller vom Gelände. Fazit: Technische Faszination darf nicht über historische Zusammenhänge hinwegtäuschen. Wenn Ihr nach Usedom kommt, besucht bitte dieses Museum. Es lohnt sich. Und noch wichtiger: Zieht danach Euer politisches Fazit und handelt entsprechend! THE BATTLE OF IA DRANG AND NVA ADAPTATION Colleague Geoffrey Wawro. In 1965, the US introduced combat troops and air mobility tactics, showcased at the Battle of Ia Drang, where General Westmoreland used infantry as "tethered goats" to draw the enemy out for destruction by artillery. However, the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) quickly adapted by "hugging" American lines to neutralize superior US firepower, proving they could inflict significant damage and control the terms of engagement. Despite high casualties, the NVA utilized human wave attacks and close-quarters combat, turning what the US hoped would be decisive victories into bloody massacres. NUMBER 10

THE CAMBODIAN INCURSION AND DOMESTIC UNREST Colleague Geoffrey Wawro. In 1970, Nixonauthorized an incursion into Cambodia to destroy NVA sanctuaries and supply lines, but the operation failed strategically as the enemy simply retreated deeper into the country and returned later. While the invasion widened the war and ignited massive domestic unrest, including the fatal shootings at Kent State, it also consolidated Nixon's political base, the "Silent Majority." This polarization was evidenced by the "Hard Hat" riots, where workers attacked anti-war protesters, demonstrating that a significant portion of the country still supported the administration's efforts. THE 1975 COLLAPSE AND THE WAR'S STRATEGIC FAILURE Colleague Geoffrey Wawro. Following the 1973 peace deal and US withdrawal, Congressional aid to South Vietnam plummeted, leaving the ARVN deprived of essential logistics and air support. When the NVA launched their final offensive in 1975, the US did not intervene, leading to a chaotic collapse of the South Vietnamese military and the fall of Saigon. The war concluded as a strategic failure where the US fought a political war based on the domino theory without understanding local realities, resulting in immense loss of life for little geopolitical gain. Hun oplossing? “Dat de politici zich opsluiten, tot ze met een oplossing komen.” ­ Lukt dat nog wel met al die ego's en oekazes? “De manier waarop Georges-Louis Bouchez van bovenaf de formatie even zou komen oplossen, werd fel bekritiseerd”, vertelt politiek journalist Jeroen Struys. “Ook het ego van Frederik de Gucht van Open VLD speelt mee. En Ahmed Laaouej van de PS doet niets anders dan praten over zijn eergevoel. Maar het gaat ook over een machtsstrijd tussen de MR en de PS, waarbij de PS het Brussels Gewest gebruikt als een soort van oppositie tegen de federale N-VA-regering.” ­ Wanneer komt er volgens Jeroen een Brusselse regering? For weeks, paratroopers and infantrymen fought for control of jungle-covered ridges like Hill 875, where heavy bombardment turned the forest to ash and cost hundreds of American lives. By the time the battle ended, over 280 Americans were killed and more than 900 wounded, while NVA losses numbered in the thousands. It was a pyrrhic victory that revealed both the extraordinary valor of U.S. troops and the brutal futility of the wider war. In this livestream, veterans of Dak To will share their memories of combat, loss, and survival—and reflect on what the battle means today, nearly half a century later.
