The 1980s were a great and crazy time for surfing! The neon colors, the hairdos (or hairdonts) and trendy styles have come and gone, but great brands and shops have stood the test of time. In this week's episode we sat down with Dave Nash and Pete Censoplano of Sun Diego Boardshops. Listen to how a military kid born in Japan and raised in Missouri opened a great boardshop in the golden 80s!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
From Monday Americans will be banned from investing in 59 Chinese companies, including technology firms like Huawei. The move aims to stop the flow of capital into defence and surveillance technology companies which the White House says will undermine security. We get analysis from Shirley Wu, a research fellow at the University of Harvard, who monitors relations between Beijing and Washington. Wildfires, record high temperatures and strong winds are sweeping parts of Greece, Turkey and Lebanon, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people; we hear from Eleni Myrivili, a former deputy mayor of Athens, who has just been appointed as the city's Chief Heat Officer. On August 12th, Zambians will vote in a national election, which comes as poverty is more widespread, the country's foreign debt has increased, the economy has suffered recession and a third wave of of Covid 19 is keeping children out of school. So what will the implications be for the economy? We speak to Paul Nyambe, founder and chief executive of Zamgoat a company that farms and produces goat meat in Lusaka. Over the last year surfing has seen a boom in popularity, as people who want escape lockdown have taken to the waves. The surge in popularity is a major boost to Europe's biggest online surf equipment retailer, Boardshop in the UK and we hear from co-founder, Roger Moon.
Local business owner of Kelowna's own Bakery Boardshop, Bobby Kennedy, sits down with me to chat about his influences and journey to owning, running and developing the shop. We discuss the culture and some history of skateboarding from our experiences with the sport, including some personal stories about Slam City Jam and locals turning pros. Enjoy! @Cwhatsoutthere @floatkelowna bakeryboardshop.com
Amidst the great wall of traffic in So-Cal, Gordie and Meatball discovered an abandoned adventure mini-golf course. Much fun was had, and much more can be once I convince the execs to let the whole team go there. Filmed and edited by Gordie and Meatball, motion graphics by Mark.
I went to the Skate Park On Saturday and saw all my friends with no shirts on and thought to myself...This is the beginning of summer. So I documented it. Shirtless dudes include DJ Chavez, Angel Ramirez, Jared Stoots, Mark Spencer, Dave Davis, Trevor Uriona, etc...Also starring a shirt wearing Bucky O' Connell.
