Round up a dozen of the world's best shapers. Lock them in their respective sheds and ask them to solve the same problem twelve different ways. Gather whatever they create, paint the rails blue and ship them off to Sumbawa. Acquire Ethan Ewing. Clear his schedule, handle him with care. Ship him to Sumbawa too. Point a few cameras at him, put him in warm water, let him loose. Set the Smooth Gorilla free. Make a film about it. Actually, make a TV series. Market him as a man inconvenienced by language itself. Send along Taj Burrow to help translate. Let him surf too. Then crack the whole thing open. Let the kid talk. Show that we're all bags of meat with galaxies inside, even the quiet ones. Ask him to pick a favourite board. Don't discourage him from choosing outside the aristocracy. Not one of the big dogs, in his words. Let him repeat it, too. How cool, he says, for an underling to win. Follow his travel schedule, hold premieres in its wake. Let the people gather in dark rooms and watch. Then, finally, sit Ethan Ewing and Dane Reynolds down and ask them to talk about all of the above, and a whole lot more. This is episode 17 of StabMic. Enjoy.
In this episode of the Swell Season Surf Podcast, we welcome back Gina Jurlando to the show. You might remember her when we last had her on to talk about the Yeasty Boys, the community surf group she founded to help make surfing more welcoming, inclusive, and supportive for everyone looking to paddle out.Since then, Gina has continued doing what she does best—bringing people together. Whether it's through surfing, community events, environmental initiatives, art, film, or simply creating spaces where people can connect, she's become one of the driving forces behind the ever-evolving culture of Rockaway Beach.Today she's back to talk about two exciting new projects. First, the inaugural Rockaway Surf Film Festival, a new celebration of surf culture, storytelling, creativity, and the unique community that has grown around the ocean here in New York. And second, Jupiter Club, a new community-focused surf club, co-working space, event venue, and gathering place that is already becoming a hub for surfers, artists, entrepreneurs, and locals alike. Jupiter Club was created to carry forward the spirit of community that has always made Rockaway special, while creating new opportunities for people to connect, collaborate, and share ideas. From building one of the most welcoming surf communities on the East Coast to helping launch new cultural institutions right here in Rockaway, Gina continues to prove that surfing is about much more than waves—it's about the people you meet along the way.She is our guest today on this episode of The Swell Season Surf Podcast.Follow The Jupiter Club on Instagram: jupiterclubnycYou can find more information on the club and The Rockaway Surf Film Festival here: https://www.jupiterclubnyc.com/ The Swell Season Surf Podcast is recorded by The NewsStand Studio at Rockefeller Center in the heart of Manhattan and is distributed by The Swell Season Surf Radio Network. Our guest for this episode of the Swell Season Surf Podcast is John Angiulo — a professional surfer, surf educator, author, filmmaker, and one of Montauk's most thoughtful voices exploring the deeper meaning of surfing and wave culture. John grew up immersed in the roots of East Coast surfing. His father, Kenny Angiulo, was considered one of New York's standout surfers during the golden era of East Coast surf culture, often mentioned alongside legends like Ricky Rasmussen. His uncle, Michael “Mick” Angiulo, played a major role in helping legalize and expand surf access throughout New York State beaches through his groundbreaking work with the Eastern Surfing Association.John began surfing at just five years old at Ditch Plains, and over the past three decades has taught thousands of people to surf in places like Montauk, Indonesia, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico. But this conversation goes far beyond surfing technique. Through projects like A Word on Waves and the Surfing Saves Project, John explores the idea that surfing is more than a sport — it's a framework for understanding life, community, energy, and our relationship with the natural world. We dive into Montauk surf history, the battle for beach access, surf instruction, lineup culture, spirituality, quantum theory, wave consciousness, and how surfing can become a tool for personal and communal regeneration. We also discuss John's monthly “Paddle Outs to Peace,” designed to promote collective coherence and connection through the ocean. This is a thoughtful and wide-ranging conversation about surfing, philosophy, community, and the power of waves — both in the ocean and in life. We hope you enjoy…Follow John on Instagram @_surfingsaves_ You can find his books at www.surfingsaves.com The Swell Season Surf Podcast is recorded by The NewsStand Studio at Rockefeller Center in the heart of Manhattan and is distributed by The Swell Season Surf Radio Network. If you've been itching for a cross-country trip, you could just book a flight like a normal person… but where's the fun in that? This week, Julian (heroically) avoids talking about aviation and instead explores his second-favorite mode of transportation: a Mazda Miata outfitted with two Ferrari engines bolted to the sides. Yes, it has training wheels. No, that does not pass inspection. Meanwhile, Trace is busy figuring out if he can hang ten on a giant Detroit-style pepperoni pizza—which, shockingly, is *mostly* possible but, unshockingly, not very delicious.QUESTIONSJulian: “How fast would I have to go to coast from L.A. to New York?” from AlanTrace: “Is there any way that you could use a pizza, cooked or frozen, as a surfboard?” from ParkerDo you have an absurd question? Maybe it's a silly idea that popped into your head, a shower thought about the nature of reality, or a ridiculous musing about your favorite food? Whatever your question, we want to answer it—tell us!HOW TO ASK A QUESTION

For episode 53 of Lip Biter Sounds, FLOYD WEST22 comes in with pure pressure — a restless ride through Latin club heat, tech house swing, melodic tension, and rave-ready attitude. From the raw snap of Skrillex and Tokischa's “Surfboard” to the hypnotic pull of Agents Of Time, Miss Monique, TH;EN, and Mia Mendi, the set moves like a body caught between seduction and impact. There's a dirty, playful pulse running through this one. Tracks like “FREAK,” “Freaky,” “Bidolibido,” and “Don't Want None” bring the sweat, while cuts from Innellea, Benny Benassi, CamelPhat, and Westend keep the energy sharp, dark, and fully locked in. By the time Paul Johnson's “Get Get Down” hits, the mix feels like a late-night warehouse flashing into overdrive. Lip Biter Sounds #53 is FLOYD WEST22 at his most instinctive — sexy, unruly, and built for the kind of night that leaves the room hotter than it found it. If you want, I can also make this into a shorter Instagram caption version. ⚡️Like the Show? Click the [Repost] ↻ button so more people can hear it!

On this episode of the Swell Season Surf Podcast, we welcome board industry vet, Jamie Meiselman to the show! We trace his journey from cold-water surfing in Westfield, New Jersey and the DIY dawn of Northeast snowboarding to a lifetime of innovation across board sports. Jamie reflects on his early roots in skate, surf and competitive snowboarding, pioneering boot technology with Burton and Airwalk, and his years shaping the voice of the industry as Managing Editor of Transworld Snowboarding during its explosive growth in the early 90s. After earning an MBA at Columbia, he pursued an ambitious surf-focused wave pool project that ultimately collapsed, shaping his philosophy on risk, resilience, and iteration. In 2017, Jamie returned to his core passion and founded Solite, introducing the first heat-moldable surf bootie and building a lean, performance-driven brand now respected worldwide. This conversation explores obsession, reinvention, craftsmanship, wave pool evolution, and the mindset behind creating products that truly improve function — closing with reflections on shaping, favorite boards, and the perfect eternity wave.Follow Jamie's company Solite Boots on Instagram @solitebootsand you can check out the latest selection at https://soliteboots.com/The Swell Season Surf Podcast is recorded by The NewsStand Studio at Rockefeller Center in the heart of Manhattan and is distributed by The Swell Season Surf Radio Network. In 1980, a 20-year-old Graham Broyd turned a prestigious six-week scholarship to Washington, D.C. into the adventure of a lifetime. He traded his ticket for a flight to Los Angeles with a dream of surfing in Malibu and a wild plan to hitchhike across the country. In this episode, Graham shares the incredible story of his journey, a tale he revisited in 2024 to see how the country and he had changed. This is the ultimate story of hitchhiking across America then and now. What happens when you have just $600 to survive for six weeks, relying on your wits and the kindness—or danger—of strangers? This sprawling conversation, a must-listen for fans of incredible travel stories, is like a living "Backpack, Jacket, Surfboard" book review. Author Graham Broyd sits down with Blaine DeSantis to recount his unbelievable journey. We hear tales of extreme budget survival, like his method for turning a single Big Mac into a three-course meal, a story that comically landed his book in the "cooking humor" category on Amazon. Graham shares the unwritten rules and etiquette of the road, offering a fascinating look into the lost art of hitchhiking. This Graham Broyd travel memoir comes to life as he discusses his disastrous first attempt at surfing in Malibu, how he acquired an eight-foot surfboard as a travel companion, and the frightening night he spent alone in the desolate expanse of Death Valley. The episode explores the stark difference between America in 1980 vs 2024, contrasting the past with the present through Graham's retraced journey. He shares thrilling and sometimes chilling stories from hitchhiking America, from navigating an unwelcome advance near the Grand Canyon to the bizarre experience of ending up in Tijuana, Mexico on a trip to Malibu—a mystery he still hasn't solved. We learn how a single smart jacket gave him access to the high-rolling casinos of 1980s Las Vegas and how a chance encounter in a youth hostel led to a stunning interview with Senator Howard Baker about the Panama Canal Treaty. This detailed look at hitchhiking across America then and now culminates in a tale of unexpected benevolence on the gritty subways of New York City, proving that adventure and humanity can be found where you least expect them.About Our Guest:Graham Broyd is the author of the travel memoir "Backpack, Jacket, Surfboard." In 1980, at the age of 20, he embarked on an impromptu hitchhiking trip across the United States, a journey that profoundly shaped his life. Over 40 years later, he retraced his steps to recapture 24 photos from his original trip, discovering not only how much America had changed, but how much he had as well.Timestamps:(00:00) A Scholarship Becomes an Epic Adventure(02:12) From D.C. This week on The Temple of Surf Podcast, we welcome a truly unique voice in surf culture: Japanese surf photographer Tatsuo Takei, whose eye for authenticity has inspired and preserved the soul of surfing for decades. Known for his celebrated book Authentic Wave, Tatsuo has carved his own path as an artist, blending timeless craftsmanship with a deep love for the ocean and the communities that revolve around it. Tatsuo's story is one of passion, patience, and devotion. Born in Osaka, Japan, he grew up far from the breaks of California and Hawaii, yet the pull of the surf lifestyle was impossible to resist. His early fascination with American surf magazines and films eventually led him on a journey across the Pacific, where he immersed himself in the surf scenes of California. Unlike many contemporary photographers, Tatsuo has remained committed to shooting on film, particularly 16mm, embracing a medium that demands discipline and rewards authenticity. In a world dominated by digital speed and convenience, his analog approach offers something rare: photographs that capture the quiet poetry of surfing. His book Authentic Wave is not just a collection of images, it is a cultural statement. Page after page, Tatsuo documents a surfing experience that values style, community, and purity over competition and commercialization. He focuses on longboarding, classic style, and the personalities who embody surfing's roots, reminding us that this culture is about much more than chasing the next contest trophy. His work resonates with surfers around the world who long for a connection to the essence of wave-riding, unfiltered and unpolished. In our conversation, Tatsuo shares what drove him to dedicate his life to film photography in an era when most abandoned it. He explains the technical and artistic challenges of working with film in the ever-changing conditions of the ocean. From loading cameras in the sand to timing shots perfectly with light and swell, his craft is both art and ritual. The results, however, are stunning images that feel alive, textured, and eternal. We also explore how cultural perspective shapes his art. Coming from Japan but embedding himself in the Californian surf world, Tatsuo bridges two traditions, offering a unique lens on what it means to be a surfer. He speaks about the Japanese reverence for nature, harmony, and tradition, and how these values influence the way he documents surfers gliding along timeless waves. For anyone who has felt the magic of a perfectly ridden wave or admired the effortless style of classic longboarding, Tatsuo's work is a reminder of surfing's eternal truths. His photographs are not just about action; they are about atmosphere, spirit, and the fleeting moments that make surfing a way of life rather than just a sport. Tune in to this episode to hear Tatsuo Takei reflect on his journey, his book Authentic Wave, and his vision for the future of surf culture. It's a conversation that honors surfing's past while reminding us of the importance of staying true to its essence.
