It's the happiest time of the year-- but is it? Christmas is advertised as the biggest celebration of the calendar, especially in North America, so it's no surprise the idea of not giving it the expected pomp can be incredibly polarizing. But what if you're an immigrant from a culture that has seen very little Christian/Christmas influence? Or what if you're an immigrant from a culture that celebrates Christmas with so much extravagance that the ugly-Christmas sweater, eggnog-laden North American approach doesn't seem enough? Join Pola (@russiancoffee) and Carole (@ofmillienial) as they get into their personal experiences in celebrating Christmas, the uncomfortable process of integrating into North American culture, and how even years later, they can still feel like an imposter. This will be our last episode for 2020-- it's been an interesting year, to put it mildly! Can't wait to see what 2021 has in store (we say this with some trepidation). Happy holidays everyone and see you in the new year!

On the 18th Anniversary of 9/11, Americans especially media and some politicians seem more intent than ever on sanitizing terrorism and sweeping it under the rug. This was nowhere more apparent than at a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing, ironically held at the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum. You would think 9/11 was caused by drunk pilots who lost their way instead of radical Islamists trying to take over America. That day changed Dr. Caroles life. As a born and bred New Yorker, especially moved by the attack, she became The Terrorist Therapist, devoting herself to helping people keep calm and carry on in the face of terror. We are still suffering from the psychological impact of 9/11 and the ongoing threat of terrorism, evident by rising obesity, PTSD, anxiety, depression, insecurity, pessimism, insomnia, substance abuse and even suicide. Dr. Carole is the author of the award winning book, Lions and Tigers and Terrorists, Oh My How to Protect Your Child in a Time of Terror.
My Blonde Bombshell expert April VeVea and I take on our 6th Blondeshell the gorgeous and very tragic Carole Landis. I did a podcast over a year ago with Caroles biographer Eric Gans, and we covered Caroles whole short life. April and I discuss her career, her marriages, Rex Harrison and ultimately her suicide. Some people, even Caroles relatives think Rex had a hand in her death. We discuss it all. Thanks to April for joining me in the summer series of the history of blonde bombshells. She is such a great guest and has a treasure trove of knowledge about classic movie blondes. Mostly, thanks to the listeners. You are the best. Lots of great stuff coming up. Dr. Caroles experience as a forensic psychiatrist who has examined inmates in jails and prisons from Bellevue in New York to the Twin Towers in Los Angeles, analyzes every shred of evidence to discover whodunit and why. What reasons did Epstein have to commit suicide? Who was motivated to murder him? Whether it was suicide or murder, how could it have happened to a hi-profile prisoner in a New York jail? What are the correct procedures to follow if an inmate is suicidal? What kinds of suicide watch are there? Who should be making the decisions as to whether to keep someone on suicide watch or not? If he suicided, was it an assisted suicide and who is to blame? Were the supposedly sleeping guards really asleep? Could jail staff have been paid off to not keep serious suicide watch or not check on him? Who might have paid them and why? There are still countless unanswered questions and people with motive to provide a sheet and a bunk bed-an open invitation to suicide!

Clark Gable and Carole Lombard were two of the twelve of the classic Hollywood people Sara highlighted in her book. We talked Clarks hometown, his two marriages prior to Carole. He basically used them to get him to Hollywood and stay there. Both were 17 years older. We merge to Carole and Clark and talk after Caroles death. After we discuss Clark and Carole we talk Jean Harlow. I love Jeans accent but is it midwestern?? We talk her move to Hollywood with mama Jean. Her stardom, her marriage to Paul Bern, her unhappiness over William Powells stalling on marrying her and of course her tragic death. We then tackle Spencer Tracy. We really don't talk much of the Katherine Hepburn time. Spencer was a very complicated man. He was tortured and when he went on his drunks, he'd disappear for days at a time. I thought he was kind like the character he portrayed in Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde, except for being a vicious killer. I learned a lot about him I never knew. We did talk about Katherine Hepburn and Spencer and the rumors that they were only good friends. We talked a bunch of interesting things and people. I want Sara to come back on and talk about the eight others we didn't get to. They are Jane Wyman, Dorothy Dandridge, Rock Hudson, Jean Seberg, Marilyn Maxwell, Jane Russell, Anne Baxter and Louella Parsons. Thanks so much to Sara, she knows her classic movies and stars. I had a lot of fun with her. You will like her book a lot. Great read..Mostly thanks to you listeners. I really appreciate you. I talked to Carole Landis biographer Eric Gans. We talked her life, her husbands, her free attitude towards sex, her career , her traveling all over to entertain the troops during World War 2. Finally we got into her affair with Rex Harrison. She thought he was the ONE and love of her life, only one problem..he was married and had no intention of divorcing his wife. On the last night of her life Carole had dinner with Rex and its believed that Rex told her he was going to be in NYC for a long time doing the Broadway Show Anne Of A Thousand Days. What they spoke about we will never really know. Did he tell her they were over?? What is known is that Carole took enough Seconal to kill herself four times over. She left notes. One for mom and one for Rex. Rex was the first one to discover Caroles body sadly laid out in her bathroom. She was clutching rosary beads and the notes. Some cops got a hold of the note for Rex and Rex and his wife paid 500 dollars for it. Its a sad story of a very beautiful woman with many demons. Thanks so much to Eric. He was fabulous.. Check out his book https://www.amazon.com/Carole-Landis-Beautiful-Hollywood-Legends-ebook/dp/B002L16JWE/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1527959044&sr=1-6&keywords=Eric+GansMostly Thanks to the listeners. Each day, more news filters out about the Parkland high school shooting that horrifies us and makes our heart bleed for the victims and their families. An Emergency Medical Technician, for example, who wants to remain anonymous for fear of being fired, has just confided to a reporter that he was told to stand down and not run in to rescue victims and provide medical aid. A Sheriff Deputy, Scot Peterson, who was one of four deputies hiding in the bushes, instead of running in to confront the shooter, said the same thing. Who do we believe? Today's guest, Bryan Crabtree, radio host and publisher of Talk40.com News, shares his views on these failures of law enforcement and the FBI. And he and Dr. Carole also discuss what should be done to prevent future school shootings: the pros and cons of gun control and arming teachers, and how desperately our mental health system needs improvement. Hear what they have to say and then you decide.
