This episode originally aired August 8, 2019. A murder mystery theater performance turns into a real life whodunit when a badly burned body is discovered after the performance. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this week’s episode of Zone 7, more than three months after Nancy Guthrie vanished, Sheryl McCollum returns to the case with one central question: what does the evidence actually prove? From the masked suspect’s behavior on camera to the blood patterns at the front door and the complete absence of credible ransom activity, she argues that the scene shows signs of staging, not a financial motive, and makes the case that investigators may need to reset and start again from the ground up.

The new manager, Derryl, comes in to talk through ideas. He's very frazzled cuz there's just so much to do! She shows up at the inn and gives a cookie to the check-in attendee, Bobby. She meets with Brandi (who seems generally unhappy to be there) to talk through set up and tour the kitchen and stuff. She meets the owner, Mr. How & his wife, and goes on her way. It's party time. Hannah goes down to finish some cookies and Brandi is there. She talks about how she's been passed over for a promotion and wants to come up with some ideas that will help her get one. Next thing you know, Hannah and her sister are walking down a hallway and hear a thud. They go into the room, and sure enough, dead body. It's Brandi. UH OH! She goes to get Chad and they get to work on investigating! After a full night of poking around, they got nothing aside from some messed up time cards. Hannah figures out that Brandi and Mr. How were having an affair! So she goes to question him and he's like yeah we were which is why I never gave her a promotion cuz I didn't want my wife to find out. But I'd never kill her. So it's probably his wife right? No. She corners Hannah in an alley to tell her just that. Turns out, it's Derryl. He did it. To celebrate, Hannah and Chad kiss big ones. The end hopefully forever. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Susie Black, author of the book The Case of the Croaked Coach. Named Best US Author of the Year by N. N. Lights Book Heaven, award-winning cozy mystery author Susie Black was born in the Big Apple but now calls sunny Southern California home. She reads, writes, and speaks Spanish, albeit with an accent that sounds like Mildred from Michigan went on a Mexican vacation and is trying to fit in with the locals. Since life without pizza and ice cream as her core food groups wouldn't be worth living, she's a dedicated walker to keep her girlish figure. A voracious reader, she's also an avid stamp collector. Susie lives with a highly intelligent man and has one incredibly brainy but smart-aleck adult son who inexplicably blames his sarcasm on an inherited genetic defect. In my book review, I stated The Case of the Croaked Coach is the first in the Hannah White mysteries. If you love a good cozy mystery, especially one with a teenage sleuth, you are going to love Hannah White. She wants to be a journalist, and she asks a lot of questions. This time, though, will her questions lead to answers or get her killed? We learn quickly that the football coach isn't the best character. By the time of his death, there are over half a dozen potential suspects - each with ample reason to want him dead. Of course, Hannah should leave this to the police, but she can't. Why? Because they have arrested her friend and aren't looking for other suspects. But Hannah is sure Dean didn't do it. Hannah relies on her friends, her attorney uncle, and a private investigator to help her find the truth. But will she find the truth and get others to believe her in time? This is a fun read - and a great introduction to Susie Black! In this rebroadcast of Murder in the Black, the hosts revisit the haunting case of Gregory Agnew and the unresolved disappearance of his former girlfriend, Tammy Niver. The story unfolds in Ypsilanti, a vibrant college town whose familiar streets hide a far darker history. Tammy vanished shortly after ending a volatile relationship with Gregory—one marked by control, intimidation, and escalating violence. Although suspicion surrounded Gregory early on, a lack of physical evidence prevented an arrest, leaving Tammy's case cold and her family without answers for decades.Years later, Gregory's violent past came sharply into focus when he was convicted of murdering his estranged wife, Martha Anu. Martha had made repeated efforts to expose Gregory's abusive behavior, placing herself in danger while seeking accountability. Her tragic death ultimately reignited attention on Tammy's long-unsolved disappearance. While justice was served in Martha's case, Tammy Niver's fate remains unknown. This rebroadcast highlights the devastating patterns of domestic violence, the long-term impact on victims and their families, and the importance of recognizing warning signs before it's too late.----------------------------------------------------------------⏱ Episode Chapters00:00 — Introduction & Rebroadcast Overview00:30 — The Setting: Ypsilanti, Michigan01:58 — Tammy Niver's Background03:04 — Toxic Dynamics of Gregory and Tammy's Relationship05:40 — Suspicious Circumstances Surrounding Tammy's Disappearance08:13 — Martha Anu's Efforts to Expose Gregory17:59 — The Murder of Martha Anu26:16 — Tammy Niver's Unresolved Case

This is our spoiler-free review for Wake Up Dead Man, the latest entry in Rian Johnson's Knives Out series. We break down the film's striking gothic look and feel — from Steve Yedlin's atmospheric cinematography to the way light shapes the story — and talk through the performances, including Daniel Craig's ever-magnetic return as Benoit Blanc. We also get into how the film's familiar narrative structure affects the mystery this time around, why the ensemble's character dynamics feel looser, and how the story doesn't quite hit the same heights as the original. Finally, we share our overall thoughts and ratings, celebrating what the movie gets right while digging into where it falls short and what this franchise needs to evolve moving forward.Catch Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery in select theatres starting November 26, and stream it globally on Netflix December 12. This week we tackle the final 200 pages! Let's Solve the whodunnits within this fun book! As Susan delves into the manuscript, she discovers uncanny parallels between the fictional world and real-life Crace family secrets. This meta spin on a Golden Age Murder Mystery features several fair play puzzles that we can solve! Who killed Lady Margaret Chalfont? Was she poisoned? How? Why? When? 00:00 Intro 00:54 Spoilers up to page 501 02:26 Frederick Turner's father reveal 03:11 Frederick Turner's car accident 03:34 Charles & Elaine Clover 06:39 Who killed Miriam Crace? 08:50 Atticus Pund manuscript 09:36 Lady Chalfont Murder Timeline 12:14 My suspects 13:40 I've finished the book "Marble Hall Murders (Susan Ryeland #3)" is a novel by Anthony Horowitz, the third book in the Susan Ryeland series, featuring the character who edits the fictional detective Atticus Pünd. Editor Susan Ryeland has left her Greek island, her hotel, and her Greek boyfriend Andreas in search of a new life back in England. Freelancing for Causton Books, she's working on the manuscript of a novel, Pund's Last Case, by a young author named Eliot Crace, a continuation of the popular Alan Conway series. Susan is surprised to learn that Eliot is the grandson of legendary children's author Marian Crace, who died some fifteen years ago—murdered, Elliot insists, by poison. As Susan begins to read the manuscript's opening chapters, the skeptical editor is relieved to find that Pund's Last Case is actually very good. Set in the South of France, it revolves around the mysterious death of Lady Margaret Chalfont, who, though mortally ill, is poisoned—perhaps by a member of her own family. But who did it? And why? In the television series, these characters are: Lesley Manville ... Susan Ryeland Tim McMullan ... Atticus Pünd Conleth Hill ... Alan Conway Daniel Mays ... Locke / Chubb Alexandros Logothetis ... Andreas Patakis Matthew Beard ... James Taylor/ James Fraser Michael Maloney ... Charles Clover We know actor Mark Bonnar is in the cast, I'd suspect he's playing Elmer Waysmith. #whodunnit #whodunit #susanryeland #atticuspund #anthonyhorowitz #murdermystery #clue #booktube
