This is our spoiler-free review for Wake Up Dead Man, the latest entry in Rian Johnson's Knives Out series. We break down the film's striking gothic look and feel — from Steve Yedlin's atmospheric cinematography to the way light shapes the story — and talk through the performances, including Daniel Craig's ever-magnetic return as Benoit Blanc. We also get into how the film's familiar narrative structure affects the mystery this time around, why the ensemble's character dynamics feel looser, and how the story doesn't quite hit the same heights as the original. Finally, we share our overall thoughts and ratings, celebrating what the movie gets right while digging into where it falls short and what this franchise needs to evolve moving forward.Catch Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery in select theatres starting November 26, and stream it globally on Netflix December 12. Click to Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Youtube-Subscribe-SoapDirt Bold and the Beautiful has Luna Nozawa's reign of terror reaching a boiling point, pushing everyone to their limits. The villainous Luna, a character that has become a source of misery for many, has targeted the young Will Spencer (Crew Morrow) and turned his life upside down. Will confides in his parents, Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) and Katie Logan (Heather Tom), about the horrific events Luna put him through. Bold and Beautiful shows Bill's first instinct to rectify his mistake of getting Luna pardoned is to kill her, making him a prime suspect if Luna were to meet an untimely end. However, Bill is not the only one ready to take drastic measures. Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda), Luna's aunt and grandmother, also has a ruthless streak and could potentially challenge Bill. Li previously watched Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) almost die and did nothing to help, showing her capacity for cold-hearted decisions. Bold and the Beautiful gives other potential suspects that include Electra Forrester (Laneya Grace), who is disgusted and furious with Luna, and Remy Pryce (Christian Weissmann), who might kill Luna for redemption purposes. Also, Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan), who despises Luna for her lies, might also take a shot at Luna to protect someone. Lastly, Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), who is due back in LA soon, might take matters into her own hands when she discovers Luna's latest exploits. Author and Mishpacha magazine writer Barbara Bensoussan is back on “613 Books” podcast, this time to discuss her new book, “Seven Blessings and a Murder.” This is a thrilling novel featuring a colorful assortment of family members from England, France, and the U.S. who converge in Jerusalem for the wedding. Some of the relatives are devoutly religious and some are casually traditional. Some are wealthy, and some are cash-strapped. Some have Moroccan family roots, some with Syrian roots. Despite the inevitable clashes of culture, the wedding goes off in picture-perfect style. And then the unthinkable happens. A family member turns up dead, under suspicious circumstances. The celebration turns into a crime scene! Talk about ‘Whodunit!' My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Laury A Egan, author of the book Fair Haven. Laury is the author of fourteen books of fiction: Jack & I; The Black Leopard's Kiss & The Writer Remembers; The Psychologist's Shadow; The Firefly; Once, Upon an Island; Wave in D Minor; Doublecrossed; Turnabout; The Swimmer; The Ungodly Hour; A Bittersweet Tale; Fabulous! An Opera Buffa; The Outcast Oracle; and Jenny Kidd, with two titles forthcoming in 2025: Fair Haven and a new story/play collection, Contrary. Her stories have been collected in Fog and Other Stories, and her short fiction and poems have appeared in 85 literary journals and in multiple anthologies. Two full-length poetry volumes, Snow, Shadow, a Stranger and Beneath the Lion's Paw, were issued in limited edition, as were two chapbooks, Presence & Absence and The Sea & Beyond. Laury is also a fine arts photographer, a former book designer, and a reviewer for The New York Journal of Books. She lives on the northern coast of New Jersey. In my book review, I stated Fair Haven by Laury A Egan is a murder mystery set in the small town of Fair Haven. The opening scene is a dead, naked woman in a hot tub. Each page after introduces us to the characters who may be the killer, as well as some supporting cast members like the police chief, his girl Friday, the crime photographer, and a beagle named Cagney. And the possible killer? The list is lengthy and includes one of many lovers, her husband, a colleague, and a thief. Everything gets messier as we learn about the private lives of these individuals and realize that although the town seems quiet on the outside, the residents are embroiled in scandals ranging from hiding sexual orientations to financial fraud. Throw in some blackmail, attempted rape, and assault - and you have a real story! This is the latest in Laury's works, and once again, I didn't figure out the killer until the very end. She's very good at giving you the answer but hiding it just enough to keep you guessing! If you love a good suspense/mystery, then you'll love this book.
