In this episode, Ed Frawley shares why and how we teach our dog the Yuck/Leave it command. Yuck is a command we train to teach our dog to spit out something it has picked up. It is probably the second most valuable command to teach our dog. This is taught in combination with the "Leave it" command. Leave It is a command taught to ask the dog to leave something alone that we don't want them to pick up. This video clip came from our Basic Dog Obedience course. This self-study course has 8 hours of video plus very detailed written training content. This course will cover the basic philosophy of reward-based training for sit, down, the foundation of coming when called, yuck/leave it, and walking on a loose lead. Additionally, you'll receive advice on managing your dog in your home. This course is taught by Ed Frawley owns Leerburg and has been training people how to train dogs for over 55 years. | Links mentioned: Basic Dog Obedience: https://leerburg.com/302.htm | Intermediate Dog Obedience: https://leerburg.com/302b.php | The Power of Training Dogs with Markers: https://leerburg.com/marker-dvd.php | Training Dogs with Food Rewards: https://leerburg.com/food-dvd.php | Obedience Training Equipment: https://leerburg.com/view-category.php?categoryid=699

New trainers must also understand what the road to a reliable off-leash recall is. If trainers understand the progression to the recall, they are less likely to get ahead of themselves and skip training steps. Because a solid off-leash recall is so important, it is absolutely critical to not skip training steps. A reliable off-leash recall starts with the foundation work that we cover in this Basic Obedience course. Once that's done, training becomes a little more complex. We cover this in our intermediate course when we start adding more distractions and layering in corrections, then the final step is to finish the off-leash recalls with remote collar training. ========================= Links Basic Dog Obedience Intermediate Dog Obedience Training Your Dog to COME When Called - EVERY TIME

In this episode, Ed Frawley shares a comment from a viewer about dogs who only seem to fight when the handler is present. Ed addresses this concern and what he would do about it. Alliance Aggression is a term some people use to describe when a dog becomes aggressive around and defensive of its handler. We treat this as resource guarding of the handler. Keep in mind that some dogs will never be dog-friendly and are often best served in a single-animal household. If you have a dog like this in a multi-animal household, you may need to strictly manage that dog and the other animals to keep everyone safe and happy. | Links mentioned: How We Manage Dogs In Our Home: https://university.leerburg.com/Catalog/viewCourse/cid/14 | Dominant Dog Collar: https://leerburg.com/746.htm | Short Leashes: https://leerburg.com/shortleash.htm | Muzzles: https://leerburg.com/muzzle.htm | Free Online Course with Purchase of Any Muzzle from Leerburg.com - Conditioning Your Dog to Wear a Muzzle: https://university.leerburg.com/Catalog/viewCourse/cid/150 | Dealing with Dominant and Aggressive Dogs: https://university.leerburg.com/Catalog/viewCourse/cid/137
